How many hours had it been? Three? Four? A couple at least. The other paladins had given up standing and one by one slid to the floor. Pidge was the only one who remained standing.
"Pidge, come on you need to sit. Save your strength." Lance commented. He rolled his head to the side to get a better look at the green paladin.
"I'm fine.," Pidge breathed, shifting her arms that were folded across her chest.
"There not going to bring him here." Keith commented. His head was tilted back resting against the wall, eyes closed. His legs were straight out in front of him, ankles crossed.
"You don't know that." Pidge bit back.
"They would know that it would be more motivating if he was in here," Lance offered.
"Who's side are you on?" Pidge snapped. Her shoulders were aching. The tension she was feeling in her upper back was felt all over her body.
"Pidge were on the same side." Hunk said. His helmet sat in front of him, both hands resting atop. Taj was curled up next to Hunk passed out without even the slightest idea of what was happening.
"We have no idea what there going to do with him or with us. The only thing that's certain is that we're all together and we're still alive." Lance said sitting up for a moment before rising to his feet. He approached Pidge who didn't bother to look at him. "There's nothing you can do right now other than to make sure we can still fight if we need to."
"Pidge he's right." Hunk chimed in, "It's been hours since a sentry has even walked past. You need to sit and give your legs a break."
Pidge did her best to resist the caring tones in her friend's voices. She really did. Her other half was somewhere on this ship, and she needed to find him. But a small part of her. The tiniest part that heard her friends voices allowed her to see their reasoning. She suddenly found herself sliding towards the floor, her legs sliding from beneath her. Shiro's helmet was beside her and she reached an arm for it.
She had no more than reached the floor before the cell doors swung open. Everyone froze. Pidge, Hunk, and Keith were all on the floor looking up at the sentries. Only Lance was on his feet, his left side facing towards the sentries, a hand firmly placed on the wall behind him.
"You." The sentry gestured with his blaster towards Lance, "The black paladin has been asking for you."
The paladins shared a curious glance with each other. Why Lance?
Lance didn't move at first. The sentry shifted his safety off the blaster in response. With that Lance pushed himself from the wall and walked towards the sentries. He was no more in an arm's length away before the sentries grabbed hold of him and pulled him out the door.
Several minutes later he was led to another cell. The door was opened and Lance was shoved inside.
"You have five minutes," the sentry said before he walked away.
"Lance is that you?"
Shiro's voice reached his ears and Lance turned. His eyes immediately zeroed in on the corner of the cell where a figure was slumped against the wall.
"Shiro?" Lance asked, coming closer. He was afraid of what he was going to find. Of what he was going to have to tell the others when he returned to his cell. He knelt and Shiro turned towards him, his eyes barely able to focus on him. Dried blood gathered at his temple and at the corners of his mouth and nose. Streaks of the red liquid he could see running down the black paladins neck. The armor was none the better. A black circle was marked at his lower abdomen. Sharp lines made their way from the circle all the way up through the chest plate it looked almost as if he had been hit by a blast.
"Shiro, how are you still alive?" Lance asked, his heart dropping as he realized there may be more internal damage.
"Haggar," he responded, "She's been using her damn magic to keep me alive just enough so I don't die."
"That's messed up. We have to get you out of here."
"No you can't. She won't let you until she breaks Pidge. You have to promise me you'll protect her." Shiro gripped his arm then surprisingly tight for someone who was injured.
"Shiro, I-"
"Times up!" The sentry shouted, swinging the cell door open. Two more sentries approached ready to keep Lance under wraps.
"Lance," Shiro said, he gripped his arm tighter, "Help her get through this. I beg you."
The sentries pulled Lance away before he had a chance to say anything. He could only see Shiro's pleading steel eyes even after the cell door slammed shut in his face.
The march back to his cell was longer and each step felt heavier than the last. What was he supposed to say to his team. It was still baffling why Shiro had asked for him and not Keith. Wouldn't he have been a better choice?
His cell door was opened and he was returned back to the rest of his team. The door was shut and he was overwhelmed with the concerned looks he was getting.
"Is he?"
"No he's still alive." Lance answered Pidge. Barely. He made his way over in between Keith and Pidge.. He didn't think he was going to be able to tell the others what he had seen.. The dried blood. So much blood. Those steel eyes begging him to protect the one thing that kept him going. The one thing that had no idea how he was doing. The one that would break if she knew the truth. This is what Haggar wanted. She wanted to see them break one by one starting with the green paladin.
"Lance." Keith asked, "What did you see?"
