In the jungles of Central Kalimantan, a baby boy got orphaned in the midst of a land war between many things, but usually indigenous Dayaks, each other, various others, the sultan, and psychopathic jungle destroying landlords. Almost all of his family died at the hands of the top jungle destroyer himself, Lord Sin, or Heer Sin in Dutch, who also turned his equally estranged Irish contemporary, Augustus O'Connor, Lord Glenroe, from a nobody to a nightmare, and was in turn taught generally by the ultimate big bad, the goblin Umin. His birth mother's old friend, the chief's advisor Kaigaudan, also died in the conflict.
The baby boy, Sandaukan, is now pretty much alone, never knowing that he has been picked up by a grouchy central Bornean orangutan, who in turn kicked him into the orang mawas' backyard. From then on, mummy orang mawas raises him after her older child left.
