Chapter 11
Awkward temporary goodbyes
"Who's this girl again?" Ichigo asked annoyed as he watched Rukia put another dress into her backpack.
"Riruka-san!" Kon answered before Rukia could "she's gorgeous, talented, mean as hell and she's Nee-san's best friend!"
Ichigo frowned at that, Rukia hadn't told him anything about that, he thought that Rukia didn't have any friends after being for so long inside the lamp. He observed the midget going around their room, she didn't have many things to take with her so in the end she put one of Ichigo's T-shirts, probably to use it as a pajama, he smirked at the thought.
"But do you really have to go?" he asked while walking towards her.
Luckily they were the only ones inside the room, Riruka was chatting with his family and Hisana in the living room.
Rukia nodded while looking at him.
"My sister requested it" she said "besides I haven't seen Riruka in centuries! I need to know how she's been doing, how did she gain that size…"
"She obviously got a master, right?" Ichigo asked confused "I mean that's how Hisana-san and you got it so it must be the same for her."
Rukia shook her head.
"You don't know Riruka" she said "she's against having a master, she hates the whole idea so I don't think that was her case."
Ichigo was now right in front of her.
"So, you don't dislike the idea of having one? A master, I mean"
Rukia smirked at him.
"You're not so bad" she said and then frowned "why do I feel like you don't want me to go?"
Ichigo scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Because I don't want you to go" he admitted "I was kind of looking forward of having dinner with you and then…"
"Have some hot kisses on your bed before falling asleep?" she asked blushing slightly and Ichigo sighed.
"Yeah, exactly" he said.
She's the one who sleeps Ichigo thought I only end with a boner.
"It'll be just one or two days, I think" she said "and when I come back I'll make it up to you" she promised.
He smirked at the thought and was about to kiss her when the bedroom door opened abruptly, it was Riruka who looked pissed about something.
"What is taking you so long?" Riruka asked impatiently "I feel like I've been waiting for centuries!"
Ichigo's scowl deepened, he didn't like Riruka.
Once they said goodbye to the Kurosaki family and Tatsuki, Ichigo walked them towards the parking lot of the building. He didn't want to let Rukia go, he still blamed the master and genie thing, because there was no other reason. He wasn't a possessive asshole, besides they decided to be honest and responsible with this whole relationship so he thought that it was only fair for Rukia to spend some days with her best friend and her sister.
"Okay" Rukia said once the chauffer opened the door for Hisana and Riruka "you know what to do."
He sighed.
"We seriously need to find a less awkward way to say goodbye." He told her and Rukia chuckled.
"Go on" she encouraged him with a mischievous smile "be a good master and order me around."
"I order you to go and do whatever you want, take as long as you want and call me if you miss me too much" he said cockily and Rukia threw her arms around his neck and kissed him.
He put his arms around her and kissed her back, he seriously wanted to go back to the apartment with her but he remembered that Kuchiki Hisana, of all people, was watching the exchange and he felt himself blushing. They ended the kiss and Rukia got into the car, leaving him standing there on the parking lot, he didn't go back to the apartment until he couldn't see the car anymore.
Grimmjow looked around the abandoned warehouse expecting to see his boss but apparently he was the first one to arrive. Sighing heavily he took a seat on an old chair and lighted a cigarette, he inhaled deeply and closed his eyes, all he could see was the image of Kuchiki Rukia stepping into the office with tears running down her cheeks and he felt the urge to kill whoever had made her cry.
He groaned.
Ever since he got the job, ever since he met her, all he could think about was her. Her gorgeous eyes, her smile, hell, more than once he found himself dying to go to wherever she was and promise her his absolute loyalty in exchange of a single smile of hers. He was going crazy, he wanted to quit the stupid job, he wanted to forget all about her, because apparently she had bewitched him and he didn't like that at all. The worst part was that she was in a relationship with Kurosaki Ichigo.
Grimmjow chuckled humorlessly.
Kurosaki fucking Ichigo.
Grimmjow had hated him ever since he met him back in High School, mostly because he was jealous of him but of course he would never admit it. Kurosaki had a golden life and Grimmjow didn't, whenever he would see him on soccer practices with his sisters, or around his family clinic chatting with his father, Grimmjow couldn't help but think that he wanted that. He wanted the warm feeling of a fucking family and he never got it. After that, their roads parted and he thought that he would never see him again and then Grimmjow met Kuchiki Rukia.
He chuckled again.
The only thing he wanted, the only one he needed right now was closer than ever and turns out that even in that department Kurosaki Ichigo won. Grimmjow thought that someone out there hated him, otherwise he wouldn't be having an existential crisis over a girl and the orange haired bastard.
"Oh" someone said behind him "you're early."
Grimmjow sneered, he didn't need to turn around to figure out who was speaking.
"Ichimaru Gin" he greeted "what's up?"
"Not much" Gin answered amused "I just came to inform you that Aizen won't be able to be here today."
Grimmjow stood up to face him, confusion written all over his face.
"Why the hell not?" he asked "I left work for this."
"Yes well, you can give your reports to me" Ichimaru said "besides I have something to ask you."
Grimmjow nodded.
"Go on" he said impatiently.
"Do you still think you're the ideal man for this work?"
Grimmjow glared at the pale man standing in front of him. Was he doubting his capacity? He had work with him and Aizen on several other things and yet, this was the first time they had questioned him. What was he doing wrong?
"What the hell do you mean?" he asked bluntly "I've been there just for a few days, you cannot expect me to snatch the girl so fast without raising suspicions."
Gin nodded.
"Of course, we do understand that part" he said "but, have you even tried? After what happened today is highly unlikely that the girl will be going to the office again and if that's the case, how are you going to find her? Do you know where she lives?"
Grimmjow opened his mouth to answer but Ichimaru wasn't giving him the chance.
"No, you don't because unfortunately she's not living at the Kuchiki mansion" he made a pause "well, actually that could be a point in our favor considering how amazing the security is in there."
"I got into the beach house without problems." Grimmjow pointed out through gritted teeth.
"Yes" Ichimaru agreed "but you were lucky, they don't go there very often and the security is not as good, anyway let me ask again, are you sure you still want the job?"
Grimmjow looked aside frowning.
He didn't want the job, he didn't want to keep seeing Kurosaki near Rukia, he wanted to avoid the whole Kuchiki's scrutiny but he thought about what would happen if he were to quit. Looking at Ichimaru's awful smile made him think that, if by any chance, he were to quit, Aizen would've another man ready in no time and that wasn't an option. Something about a dangerous criminal looking for a way to snatch the Kuchiki heiress sounded wrong to him, even if he was that criminal.
Grimmjow's eyes widened.
He realized then, he didn't want the girl to get hurt.
"Well?" Gin pressed on.
"I want the job" he said without hesitation "I'm completely capable of doing it, just give me time."
Gin clapped once.
"That's great!" he said with fake amusement "I'll tell our boss, now before you tell us all you know I have an order to give you?"
"Order?" Grimmjow asked baffled.
"Yes" Gin said opening slightly his eyes "in case the girl doesn't return to the office, considering today's events, you have to get closer to Kurosaki Ichigo."
"What?!" Grimmjow couldn't help to ask.
"Well" Gin explained calmly "you said it yourself, she needs the boy to live so the only way to get to the girl is through him. Do you understand?"
Grimmjow laughed.
"Kurosaki hates my guts!" he said "you're asking me to earn his trust?! Do you want me to fraternize with him?! It'll never work!"
"Then, shall we hire someone else for the work?"
Grimmjow clicked his tongue and pondered his options.
He didn't have another choice.
"So" Riruka said casually while admiring the city through the car window "I haven't seen you in a while but apparently now you're proficient in giving press conferences and exchanging saliva with your master, who would've say?"
Hisana chuckled at Rukia's blushing face.
"I mean" Riruka continued "judging by Hisana-san's behavior around the boy and his family I assume he is a good boy, which is great but it's still surprising."
"Surprising how?" Rukia asked confused.
"Well he looks like a criminal to begin with" Riruka answered and Rukia chuckled "but leaving that aside, he's a good boy so he's not forcing you to do anything, instead you threw yourself at him. What I'm trying to say is that is surprising how fast you discovered your sexual taste, seriously."
Rukia pulled one of Riruka's tails painfully.
"I haven't had sex with him!" she said.
"Yet" Riruka added with a smirk and grabbed Rukia's hair "but you're already sharing a room, besides I'm not judging, you're old enough for that sort of stuff."
Hisana laughed.
"We'll stop by my apartment first" she said to the chauffer while ignoring the girl's fighting at her side "I want to pick some things."
Riruka stopped pulling Rukia's hair and looked questioningly at Hisana.
"I thought you lived in a mansion with your husband." She said.
Hisana smiled at her.
"I do, but after a fight with Byakuya-sama I left the mansion for a while and rented an apartment" she explained "once the misunderstanding was over he bought the apartment for me, he said that if I were to run away because of a misunderstanding I might as well go to a place I could call my own."
Rukia and Riruka's eyes widened.
"That man is whipped" Riruka concluded finally and Hisana blushed.
"Weren't you busy pulling my sister's hair?"
Riruka and Rukia laughed at her blushing face.
Ishida Uryuu stepped outside Kuchiki Byakuya's office wondering what to do. It had been Inoue, he didn't have any doubts, she had leaked the Kuchiki heiress identity to the press and he couldn't help but feel the need to inform his superiors about it. Perhaps it was the fact that he had spoken with Kuchiki Rukia and it was evident how someone so innocent and free spirited as her wouldn't be able to see behind Orihime's intentions.
Uryuu frowned.
He had known how much Orihime wanted Ichigo for herself, it was unrequited, and toxic, love at its best. So of course when Orihime found out about Ichigo having to spend time with Rukia she would do something to harm the Kuchiki heiress. He clicked his tongue frustrated, he couldn't deny that he held some resentments towards the busty girl, she had used him to make Ichigo jealous, thing that didn't work out because Ichigo was oblivious to everything and everyone around him. So, in the end, Ishida ended up telling Ichigo that he had broken up with Inoue because they weren't compatible and the idiot didn't even question that. But still, were his resentments the only reason why he was thinking about telling Kuchiki Byakuya about Orihime's sin?
The image of Kuchiki Rukia smiling at him came to his mind and he gulped.
No, that wasn't it.
He obviously didn't have any feelings towards the new rich girl of the block but she was innocent and she had been tricked, how? He didn't know, but he knew that it wouldn't be fair for Orihime to work so peacefully in the Kuchiki enterprise after feeding the vultures of the press with Kuchiki Rukia's identity.
Taking a deep breath he decided to knock on Byakuya's door.
"Come in" his boss said and Uryuu stepped inside the office nervously.
"Sir, I do not wish to bother you but…"
"Yes" Byakuya interrupted "this must be important, otherwise you wouldn't have spent the last ten minutes breathing heavily outside my office."
Uryuu gaped.
"I'm sorry, Sir" he said lamely, he didn't even know his breathing was erratic until Byakuya mentioned it.
Byakuya sighed.
"What brings you here?" he asked finally "something tells me it has nothing to do with our meeting with Aizen."
Uryuu shook his head.
"I know who leaked Kuchiki-san's identity to the press" he said.
Byakuya nodded.
"Before you name this person I must ask, do you have any proof?" he asked.
"No, Sir." Uryuu answered. Figuring out that Orihime didn't like Rukia wasn't proof enough, after all.
"But you must have something to base this accusations on?" Byakuya pressed on "I can tell you're a serious and responsible employee and I can also tell that you're not lying."
Uryuu sighed.
"It's complicated" he said "but I do not wish to see Kuchiki Rukia having to pay for someone else's doing."
"I appreciate that" Byakuya said sincerely "although there's no need to fret, Rukia is not in problems."
Uryuu sighed at that.
"Besides" Byakuya added "if my assumptions are correct, Rukia will be the one who ends up revealing whoever trick her sooner or later."
"What do you mean?" Uryuu asked curiously and Byakuya raised an eyebrow at him
"Sir" Uryuu added finally after noticing his mistake.
Byakuya crossed his arms.
"Well" he said "Rukia will have to learn a few things now that she's finally outside the lamp, and something tells me that after she sees the magazines and newspapers tomorrow she'll realize her mistake and she'll want some payback."
"With all due respect, Sir" Uryuu said "I don't think Kuchiki-san is the type of girl who would waste her time looking for revenge."
"You're right about that" Byakuya said calmly "but she'll demand justice, especially after compromising my peaceful job and her sister's image. Rukia will not be the only one on the magazines tomorrow."
Uryuu nodded.
That was true. Now that the press believed that Kuchiki Hisana and Kuchiki Byakuya had a daughter things would get messy for the clan, it was only a matter of time. And it was obvious how not even someone like Rukia would leave that aside.
Uryuu thought that perhaps Inoue deserved it.
"So, you do not wish for me to tell you the culprit's identity? Sir?" he asked.
"I want to know" Byakuya admitted "but I'll wait for Rukia to make her move, then you can come back and tell me if your assumption was correct, if it was I might give you a rise."
"A rise?" Ishida asked surprised.
"Well" Byakuya said "you're keeping an eye open for my sister and demonstrating your loyalty towards me at the same time, it's only fair."
Uryuu gaped and thought that perhaps Kuchiki Rukia was the best thing that could happened to the Kuchiki clan.
After Rukia left Ichigo got back to his apartment, he had lunch with his family and Tatsuki and once the tomboy decided that Renji wasn't going to come out of his apartment she left. His sisters told him about their wonderful day around the city and he noticed, amused, how his father had fell asleep in front of the TV.
The twins probably put him through hell.
After two hours passed he realized that he felt incomplete, as if something extremely important was missing. He sighed, he knew the sensation, it was the same thing he felt the day Rukia went missing. He checked on his family, Isshin was still fast asleep and Yuzu and Karin were playing something on the computer.
Without wasting more time he grabbed some keys from his kitchen counter and walked towards Renji's apartment.
He used his own key to open the door and once he stepped inside he gasped. The apartment was impeccable, it smelled of detergent and the windows were shiny. He could hear Renji scrubbing on the bathroom and he chuckled, his redheaded friend was in deep shit. Whenever he had done something wrong, in order to get rid of the anxiety, Renji used his time to clean.
So Ichigo knew that if Renji's apartment was clean he had done something wrong.
He walked towards the bathroom and found Renji scrubbing the tub while using a pink apron, Ichigo would've laughed if he didn't feel so miserable.
"That bad, eh?" Ichigo asked with a smirk and Renji gasped when he saw him standing on the bathroom door.
"Fuck you" Renji said while approaching him "what are you doing here?"
"Honestly, I came to have a beer" he said "but I might as well help you with your cleaning."
Renji sighed.
"So, since we're both miserable I'm guessing that we both have girl's problems."
Ichigo nodded.
"Come on, man" Renji said "we should go out."
Ichigo agreed with him, he needed fresh air.
