And A Dash of Sleeping Dust
Staybrook, California. It is usually sunny for people to enjoy. However, right now, it was cloudy with some high rains about to come. And one certain rebellious teen matched that weather very well with what she's going through.
At the Monroe house, Tommy came out of his room to find Sage laying outside Macy's room with his nose pressed to the bottom of the door.
"She's still in a bad mood?" the young boy asked.
Sage looked up sadly and nodded.
"Yeah, she's pretty stressed out. She snapped at me for being too much of a knight in shining armor, and then slammed the door in my face," Sage replied, looking at the door worriedly.
"Oh, this is worse than I thought. Whatever is really ticking Macy off, it's making her more ill-tempered and tired," Tommy said in concern.
Sage nodded. "I think it's the bullying at school. At least that would explain her attitude towards me."
Tommy groaned as he facepalmed in annoyance. "That might be it. What is it this time? Another prima donna making fun of Macy for dressing like a jockey guy?"
"No, it's a brick brained idiot of a soccer captain who can't accept that Macy and I are couple." Sage growled annoyed.
"Yep. That explains everything," Tommy deadpanned. "So, what are we gonna do?"
Sage shook his head. "I'm not sure. Macy demanded I leave her alone, but I'm worried with how tired she is that she might get hurt." Sage answered.
"And with her going out on patrol, there's no telling what could happen," Tommy added, really worried. Just then, an idea came to the young boy. "Oh! I know! We can call your dad or Vamps to put Macy in a peaceful slumber until she feels well rested and relaxed."
Sage shook his head. "We can't there was an incident on Anur Transyl and they were needed. Only mom, Megan, and I stayed home."
"Aw, Splixson! There's got to be some alien who could help us out!"
Sage thumped his tail on the ground. "Tommy are there any other aliens you know of that dabble in sleep?"
"Let me think..." the young boy moved around in circles, concentrating real hard to remember any aliens in that category. "Well, from I recall in the Plumber data base so far, I can only think of two. One is a Dream Eater where it feeds off stress and produces nightmares on its victim. Of course, I don't think that's what we're looking for and removing a Dream Eater by force from the victim is very difficult to do without harm in the process. So, I guess that option is off the table."
"No duh. I wouldn't let that thing near anyone...I'd rather deal with Transyl than that," Sage stated.
"Yeah, I get the picture. Big no on the Dream Eater," Tommy replied. "Okay, the other alien I can possibly think of is something called a Nemuina. They're like some weird pixie, girly fairies that create a dust from their fingers that makes those who inhale it go to sleep, and then they can induce a dream state in their sleeping victim. Even enter and manipulate those dreams."
Sage thought, for a moment. "Pesky Dust...my aunt Rachel said I had an uncle who could do that. Said that he helped with my cousins, Summer and Forrest, when they first arrived."
"Do you know if he's still around or where we could find him?"
Sage thought for a sec. "Well, some of the younger ones have been having a tough time sleeping, so...more than likely at the mansion."
"Then that's where we're going. Come on, Sage!" Tommy exclaimed, already taking the lead of running to grab his bag and head out.
"Might want a jacket. The weather man said to expect rain. Not to mention we're in October," Sage said as he walked a head of Tommy to the door.
"Good call. I'll be sure to bring an umbrella, too, just in case," Tommy replied, grabbing his hooded jacket and gloves.
Sage nodded. "Plus-side of having fur, no need for jackets," he said, with a laugh.
Tommy smirked. "Which is another reason to keep the umbrella in handy. So, I won't get soaked when you shake off some of the water off your fur,"
Sage smirked. "Ah, ruin my fun."
"Save it for pranks on Macy or someone else," Tommy joked. "Now, come on already! I want to meet this uncle of yours and ask for his help!"
Sage smiled. "Well, it would be faster, if you got on, instead of talked."
"Oh...Right," Tommy lightly smacked his head before hopping on top of Sage. "Keep forgetting that."
Sage chuckled, as he leaned back before leaping off the porch and heading for the woods. Wet leaves clung to the ground, as Sage raced through the trees.
"I hope we can find him," Sage said aloud.
"Same here!" Tommy said, holding on tight.
They got to the Grant Mansion, just before the rain started. Standing in the entrance way, Sage looked outside at the dark weather.
"One thing's for sure; the weather can't be helping any with Macy's mood," Sage said, before scratching behind his ear.
"Boy, I'll say. The sooner we find Pesky Dust, the sooner we get my sister feeling less moody," Tommy replied, getting off to open door.
Sage sniffed around the steps, soon coming upon a small pile of dust.
"Achoo...ACHOO, ACHOOO!" Sage sneezed, as he snort-sneezed.
Tommy stopped and turned around in concern. "Sage, please tell me you didn't end up catching a cold while coming here,"
Sage shook his head, still sneezing. "No...ACHOO...dust."
"Oh, thank goodness. You had me worried there, for a second," Tommy sighed in relief. "Now quit fooling around. We need to find Pesky Dust."
"ACHOO! Help me-ACHOO! STOP!" Sage growled, as he continued to sneeze.
"How?"
"I don't know, water, fresh air, something!" Sage growled.
"Okay! Okay! No need to get snappy. Sheesh, you're nearly as bad as Macy," Tommy remarked, grabbing some tissues to cover Sage's nose.
Sage snorted, as he blew out hard a couple times, before stepping back.
"Thanks...sorry about snapping. I just hate sneezing consecutively," Sage said, as he rubbed his muzzle with his paw.
"It's cool," Tommy replied, only to look at the weird dust in the ground curiously. "Sage, is that the dust you were sneezing on?" he questioned, while pointing at it.
Sage nodded. "I was trying to pick up a scent when I breathed in that dust.
The young boy took a knee to get a better look at it. "Either your family is terrible at tidying up or we just found something that could help lead us to your uncle."
"I'm betting the second option. You haven't seen my family on cleaning day. It can get pretty bad, especially if you're napping and are near the vacuum," Sage said, shaking out his fur.
Tommy grabbed a mini cylinder from his bag to collect a tiny sample, and then corked it before putting it back inside. "I got to remember to send this to Andy. He would be very interested into something like this," he then went back on top of Sage. "Meanwhile, follow the dust!"
Sage rolled his eyes, as he moved into a trot at following the sparkly trail up the stairs and into the upstairs game room. Inside, Sage found all his younger cousins asleep with most of their parents and a small being plowing dust lightly into their faces.
"I believe we have found our alien," Tommy smirked, looking from behind. "What's the plan?"
Sage rolled his eyes, before sitting down abruptly making Tommy slide down his back.
"Right now, just to go and talk to him," Sage said, lightly stepping into the room.
"All right, lead the way, Captain Moody," Tommy muttered, following Sage.
Sage sighed. Maybe he needed a nap, as well. Heading over to the asleep group, the Wolfblood gave a light bark at getting Pesky Dust's attention. The fairy-like alien looked at the two curiously. Sage motioned with his head for him to follow to the hallway to talk, Pesky nodded.
"So, who are you two?" Pesky Dust asked curiously.
"I'm Tommy. And that's Sage. He's one of your nephews and a Wolfblood," Tommy answered, giving a friendly smile.
Sage nodded his head. "It's nice to meet you. Aunt Rachel told us about you."
Pesky Dust smiled, as he flew over and sat on Sage's head. "I've heard a lot about you, too. Whampire and Sasha are very happy to have you."
Sage blushed underneath his fur.
Tommy chuckled. "Not sure if you heard anything about me, but I'm part of a mystery solving group called the Mystery Crusaders and younger brother of Macy Monroe."
"I've heard a lot about you and your sister. You both are very interesting people. So, what can I do for you?" Pesky asked with a smile.
"Well, I would ask if you can help people sleep, but, after what we just saw, I got my answer. We need your help," Sage answered, looking up.
"What's up?" Pesky asked, curiously.
"It's Macy. She's been acting super cranky and restless, ever since her encounter with another jock bully at college. We were hoping, if it's not too much trouble, you could help my sister calm down by using your abilities of putting people into a deep, peaceful sleep," Tommy explained.
"Sure. Problem is, if she is as cranky as you say, then she won't want any meddling. So, we're going to have to surprise her," Pesky Dust said.
Sage smiled. "I've got an idea. Tommy, time to head back."
Half an hour later, back in the Monroe house, Sage looked at the outside of Macy's bedroom door. Looking at Pesky Dust he smiled. "Ready?"
"Ready," Pesky Dust said, as he moved to Sage's head and laid motionless on top.
Carefully, Sage opened the door and stepped in.
While entering, he saw Macy laying on her back on top of her bed, groaning as she had both hands on her face.
"Whoever is in my room, please, get out now!" she nearly shouted. "I am not in the mood for cheering up nor some comfort!"
Sage smiled, as he walked over; sitting by the edge of her bed looking up at her with a wagging tail.
Turning her head to see who it was, Macy sat up with a frown and icy cold glare on her face. "Sage, I said I want you out! And buying me some cheap plush toy is not changing my mind!"
Sage simply cocked his head to the side, continuing to wag his tail.
"Seriously, what would it take for you to leave and get out of my face?! Either you go now or I will make you!" Macy threatened, grabbing an alarm clock from her nightstand, ready to toss it.
Sage stood up, before placing his front paws on her bed and leaning close to her face.
At that moment Pesky Dust blew a large amount of his dust into Macy's face catching her off guard.
"Huh?!" Macy coughed, suddenly feeling lightheaded and dropped the clock. "What's...going on? I feel...sleepy..." she muttered with a yawn.
In a matter of seconds, the brunette teen fell on her side of the bed and was immediately out cold. She breathed steadily with a small snore.
Sage sighed, as he helped set Macy's head to a pillow and placed a blanket over her body. "Thanks. I was a little worried I'd have to deal with the alarm clock."
"You're welcome," Pesky Dust chuckled.
Just then, Tommy poked his head out of the door. "Did it work? Is she fast asleep?" he asked. "I don't hear any crashing noises or see any bruises, so I'm guessing the plan worked."
Sage looked at Tommy, with a sigh. "Remind me again how you got to be safe outside while I was threatened with an alarm clock?"
"Hey, you're lucky that it was only an alarm clock she tried to use on you. I use to get threatened by plus almost got hit by bigger and heavier objects from Macy," Tommy reasoned.
Sage sighed. "Look, I'm going to crash with her for a few hours. We can talk more later." Sage said getting up and hopping onto the bed before laying down with his head on Macy's stomach.
Tommy stared at his big siblings resting peacefully before looking at Pesky Dust.
"So... Wanna help me prank my sister and Sage while they're asleep?" The young boy asked in a whispered tone to the fairy alien.
Pesky Dust shook his head. "No, they need their rest. However, we could try Four Arms."
"For real?! I am in!" Tommy exclaimed, still talking in a low tone.
As many hours passed, Macy woke up with a long yawn before stretching and getting halfway up.
"Whoa...what a dream," she muttered, rubbing the sleepiness from her eyes. "Sage coming in with a fairy toy that came to life and sprinkled some green dust on me? Talk about crazy."
Sage groaned, as Macy moved pushing himself closer, as he drifted back into darkness.
The Brunette looked down to see Sage sleeping by her side. Chuckling, she gently caressed the Wolfblood's fur.
"Classic Wolf Boy. Always likes to stay close to me, even when I'm asleep," Macy said, smiling warmly.
Sage groaned, pressing closer still not quite ready to get up, but opening one eye to see Macy smiling.
"I'm really lucky to have you as my boyfriend and partner. I don't know what I would do without you,"
"Throw clocks around most likely," Sage said, gruffly with sleep.
Macy's eyes grew wide on that statement. How did he know about the clock thing from her dream? Unless...it wasn't a dream, at all.
"Sage...is there something you would like to tell me?" Macy asked sternly.
Sage sighed. "Not really, but I may have asked an uncle to help give you a naptime."
"Which one? Your dad or uncle Vamps?"
Sage shook his head. "Pesky Dust, the fairy you saw on my head."
"Ugh, I should have known," Macy replied, facepalming about falling for that trick. "I thought it was weird that you came in with a girly girl toy. I just didn't even realize that it was another alien, not a plushie."
Sage shrugged. "Are you mad?"
Macy let out a small sigh. "...No, not really. I actually did need a long rest without any terrible nightmares."
Sage pressed closer. "Why didn't you tell me you were having such a hard time with this?"
"Because I didn't want to admit that I actually needed help. That brainless jock couldn't stop talking about how 'fed up' he was with me on acting better than everyone else by being happy with you," Macy sighed as she looked down, rubbing her left arm. "Guess all that talk stressed me so much that I started to become sick of being treated like some damsel in distress on not handling my own battles."
Sage looked at her. "Mace, do I ever treat you like that when we fight?"
"Of course not. But I just couldn't stand what he said. I'm not some stuck-up, selfish girl who goes out with brainless, self-centered jocks. It really boils my blood when someone makes up lies about me,"
"I know it's hard, but put it this way; all he's doing is showing how small he is," Sage said, with a chuckle.
Macy looked up and gave Sage a confused look. "What do you mean?"
Sage smirked. "Let's say he's lacking in every department," he said, with a wink.
Macy couldn't help but chuckle. "You do make a good point."
Sage smiled. "So, anything else been keeping you awake?" he asked, giving her a small puppy lick.
"Eh, just the usual. Tests at college, late night patrols, missions from Plumber HQ, that sort of thing keeping me a bit stressed," Macy shrugged. "But mostly the annoying Soccer Captain."
Sage smiled. "Well, then, you're going to love me."
"I already do, you silly wolf," Macy smirked, giving Sage a kiss on his furry cheek.
"Well, I talked to the magister and he gave us two weeks off. So, no training, no missions, just homework and you and me." Sage said, shifting to human form, leaning close and kissing Macy's lips.
"Seriously? When did you do that?" Macy questioned.
"Before I came and gave you your power nap. He agreed that we could use a break, so he gave us one."
"Thanks, Sage. Remind me to thank your uncle," Macy said, soon getting a sneaky feeling. "Hang on...where's Tommy?"
Sage groaned. "Last thing I heard was something about whipped cream and super glue."
"Oh, dear. I have a super bad feeling on what my own little brother is up to," Macy deadpanned.
"Especially if one of my uncles is involved." Sage said. "Also, if it involves my Uncle Four Arms."
"What?!" Macy shouted, getting out of the bed. "Has Tommy lost his alien loving mind?! Four Arms is not an alien to mess with! We need to find him, now,"
Sage got up and moved to follow Macy. "Might want a jacket! It's pouring!" he hollered, as he chased after her.
"Already on it!" Macy cried back, as she grabbed her rain hooded jacket plus umbrella.
Sage shifted, leaping off the stairs. "Hop on. It will be faster."
Not hesitating, Macy jumped on top of Sage and was ready to ride. "Let's just hope we're not too late on saving my brother from getting mangled or something way, way worse,"
"You know, my uncle won't hurt him. Maybe be stern with him and give him an assignment for a month," Sage said, as he ran through the woods again.
"I know, but I can't stop thinking about something bad happening to him. I can't take any chances,"
Sage gave a growl. "Okay, hang on. I'm going to try speeding up, but we may slide a bit. These leaves are really wet."
"Okay, but be careful. I don't want you to get hurt," the brunette responded with small concern.
Sage smiled. "Just hang on."
The Wolfblood sped up using the less traction to his advantage, as he slid around corners; speeding up downhill till they reached the mansion. Letting Macy dismount, Sage stayed back to shake out his fur before entering the home.
"Hang on, Tommy! Your big sister is here!" Macy exclaimed, rushing around to look for plus hear her little brother. "Where are you?!"
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO! STAHAHAHAHAHAP!"
Sage ears perked from the sound of laughter. "Game room."
Macy quickly ran to the game room. She rapidly kicked the door open and became a bit surprised on what she found.
"You've got to be kidding me," she said, not believing her own eyes.
Four Arms was tickling Tommy with two of his hands. His upper hands were stuck to his head where a George Washington wig of whipped cream laid on top.
"So, you think sleeping pranks are funny, huh?" Four Arms growled, playfully, as he tickled Tommy's stomach.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I'M SOHOHOHOHOHORRY! IT WAS TOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOO GOOD TO PAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHASS UP!" Tommy laughed.
"Oh, ruining a good nap was too good to pass up? HMMMMMMM?" Four Arms said, tickling him more by going for his underarms and sides.
The young boy squealed before his laughter tripled. "NOHOHOHOHOHOHO! NOT WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAT I MEANT! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
"Promise to never play pranks while we sleep." Four Arms said not easing up.
"YEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHES! I WON'T DO IT AGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAIN! JUST STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!"
"Good," Four Arms said, stopping his attack getting up to leave. "Now, stay out of trouble, while I go take care of my hands."
Tommy constantly took a bunch of deep breathes. "I will..."
Sage chuckled, as he walked into the room and looked down into Tommy's face. "So, didn't plan for retaliation, did you?"
"I was hoping to escape before he woke up, but I was too late," Tommy answered.
"Well, you're lucky that you didn't end up getting mangled, Tommy. I mean, what were you thinking?!" Macy nearly scolded.
"Calm down, Macy," Tommy said. "Pesky asked if I wanted to prank Four Arms and it was the first time that I get to prank someone in the Grant Mansion. How was I gonna refuse such a great opportunity?"
Sage shook his head. "By using your head and remembering that my family are not only keen in the tickling department but the pranking department along with the revenge slash payback department."
"Right. Sorry," Tommy apologized.
Sage chuckled. "All right, come on. Get to your feet. Just be wary of Four Arms and keep your wits about you."
"I will. So, I'm guessing my sister is better?" Tommy asked.
"Well, if she's being stern with you but not throwing anything, I'd say so," Sage replied, wagging his tail.
"Hey!" Macy placed her hands on her hips.
Tommy chuckled. "Yep. She's back to normal."
Sage smiled, moving to Macy's side, and giving her hand a nuzzle.
"And I'm proud of it," the Wolfblood responded.
Just another fun collaborated story Steel and I did a few years back.
Little known fact, the Dream Eater that Tommy mentioned is from the Ben 10: Ultimate Alien episode 'Night of the Living Nightmare'. I was getting mixed Goosebumps and Twilight Zone vibes that became shocking in the end. I was on the edge of the seat from watching it.
Hope you all enjoyed this. No flame reviews, please. Stay safe.
