Two days later Nicole showed up to Miyagi-Do to begin her training.
"What am I doing here?" She thought getting out of the car. "I'm not going to able to do this."
She looked at the house thinking there was no way she could learn karate here. When she got to the backyard she saw a beautiful place she wasn't expecting. Daniel, Sam and Robby were there.
"Hi Nicole." Daniel said.
"Hi Mr. LaRusso."
"Are you ready to begin your training?"
"Yes."
"Good." "You will be going over the main exercises with me but Robby will start you off."
"Alright."
Robby went up to her. "Hi." He said.
"Hi."
"Ready to go paint the fence?"
"To do what?" She said confused. "What does painting a fence have to do with learning karate?"
"You'll see." "Come on." She still didn't understand but she followed Robby as he got the paint cans and went to the fence. "Ok, I'm going to show you how to do this then you'll do the rest yourself.' He showed her the hand motions. "This is important, when you paint a big board use your right hand, when it's a small board use your left hand." "When you bring the paintbrush down bend your knees." "Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth." She took the paintbrush and did what Robby told her. "Good." "I'll be back later to check on you."
"I still don't understand this."
"It'll make sense I promise." "Trust me." He smiled. She felt butterflies in her stomach. He went to the back. She started painting the fence.
The next day it was Nicole's job to wash and wax the cars. Robby was once again showing her how.
"Wax on with your left hand, wax off with your right hand."
"Ok." She started to do it.
"Bigger circles." He got behind her and put his hands over top of hers. She got goosebumps from him touching her, even though it was over a hundred degrees outside. "Like this." He showed her. They looked at each other for about ten seconds. "Damn, she's so beautiful." He thought. "Um, don't forget to breathe."
"Right "
"Right." He walked away.
Over the course of the week Nicole learned several different techniques, not seeing the point to any of it. She was at Sam's house for dinner. They'd just gotten done eating.
"Robby " Daniel said.
"Yeah?" Robby said.
"Do you think it's time we let Nicole in on the fun stuff?"
"Yeah."
"What about you Sam?"
"Absolutely." Sam said.
"Let's go out back to the dojo then."
They all went out back to the dojo.
"Nicole stand acrossed from me." Daniel said. She did. He went through the motions she learned instructing her to lock her wrist. "Show me paint the fence." He went for two strikes and to her surprise she blocked both. "Show me wax on, wax off." He went for two more strikes, once again she blocked them both. "Show me sand the floor." Again two strikes, again two blocks. Then he mixed it up and she blocked everything. She had a shocked look on her face. They bowed to each other.
"Wow." Nicole said.
"Great job."
"You thought my dad was crazy didn't you?" Sam said smiling.
"Yeah."
"Congratulations." They hugged.
"You did great." Robby said smiling. They hugged.
Nicole was getting ready to leave.
"Can I walk you to your car?" Robby asked.
"Sure."
They were standing outside of her car.
"Nicole do you have a boyfriend?" Robby asked.
"No."
"Would you like to go on a date?"
"Really?" She said shocked. "I mean yes."
"When's your next day off?"
"Thursday."
"Maybe we can go to the movies or something."
"That would be great." "Well I have to go."
"Bye."
"Bye." She got in her car and drove away. "Oh my god, I have a date with Robby." She thought shocked.
