Back to the Future: Sonic Style

Chapter 5: Green Hill: 1955

Location: Green Hill, Date: November 5th 1955

"Remember, fellas, the future is in your hands. If you believe in progress, re-elect Mayor Red Thomas, progress is his middle name." a speaker from an election van said, as Silver saw it pass by, "Mayor Red Thomas's progress platform means more jobs, better education, bigger civic improvements, and lower taxes. On election day, cast your vote for a proven leader, re-elect Mayor Red Thomas…"

After a long journey, Silver reached the town of Green Hill, only he realized that everything looked different.

Everything he knew and saw, all that was old as he saw, looked new…ish.

Places that were shut down, were still open…

Every building that he saw looked all different, as were the cars, the outfits everyone was wearing…

If that wasn't enough, the icing of the cake came as Silver heard a dong sound, and turned to see the sound coming from the clock tower.

It was supposed to be broken.

He then saw a discarded newspaper, and checked the date, and his eyes widened at what the date was as he looked at the paper: November 5th 1955.

"This has gotta be a dream." Silver muttered to himself, as he then walked around, until he saw a place that sort of looked familiar.

Where what the gym used to be, was currently a diner, with so much going on, Silver thought that he might need something… maybe a drink.

As he went inside, he was surprised by the decor, and even saw a jukebox playing old-timey music.

"Hey kid," someone got his attention, as the person behind the counter saw him come in, "what you do, jump ship?"

"What?" Silver raised an eyebrow.

"What's with the life preserver?"

A little bit ignoring that question, Silver then replied, "I just wanna use the phone."

The cashier looked skeptical, but replied, "Yeah, it's in the back."

Silver instantly headed to the phone booth that was stationed inside the diner, and began to look through the phone numbers in a phone book, since the place where he lived didn't exist, then there was one person he could try and call… Doc Prower.

"Prower, Prower, Prower, Prower, Prower…" he muttered to himself, as he looked for the right phone number that had the Doc's name and adress on it, until finally, he found it, "great, you're alive."

He then dialed up the phone number for Doc Prower's home, but unfortunately, there was no reply, while doing that, Silver had to avoid showing off his digital watch, as he bet that digital watches wouldn't be made where, or rather when, he was at.

After waiting for a few minutes and no reply, Silver decided to tear a bit of the phone book with the page containing the details on where Doc Prower would be, then went up to the counter, "Do you know where 1640 Riverside-"

"Are you gonna order something, kid?" the cashier said, cutting him off.

Silver felt a little nervous about both what was happening, and was unsure on what to do, until he said, "Yeah, gimme a Tab."

"Tab? I can't give you a tab unless you order something."

"Right, gimme a Pepsi free."

"You wanna a Pepsi, pall, you're gonna pay for it."

"Well, just gimme something without any sugar in it, okay?" Silver finally caved on what to have to order.

"Something without sugar." the cashier declared, deciding to do and give what Silver wanted, though skeptic on what he said.

As Silver sat down, a lot on his mind on what was happening, unaware to him, he was currently sitting down next to a blue hedgehog, who was also having a lot on his mind as well…

"Hey, Hedgehog!"

The sound of a voice, one oddly familiar, got the attention of Silver (and the blue hedgehog), as they both looked up to who was calling to them(?)

"What do you think you're doing?" the owner of the voice asked, revealing himself to be a green hedgehog, accompanied with him was a weasel, a duck and polar bear.

As the group approached forward, Silver had a good look at him… was that… "Scourge?"

The hedgehog, none other than Scourge (who was seemingly a bit younger), and his group went up to the counter where Silver was… and approached the blue hedgehog as he said, "Hey I'm talking to you, Sonic, you blue bug."

Silver looked to the blue hedgehog as the group surrounded him, and looked in shock.

It was Sonic Hedgehog!

His dad!

He continued looking stunned as Sonic spoke, a little nervously, to Scourge, "Oh hey, Scourge, hey, guys, how are you doing?"

"Yeah, you got my homework finished, Sonic?" Scourge asked.

"Uh, well, actually, I figured since it wasn't due till Monday-" Sonic spoke up, trying to explain a bit to Scourge, who just rolled his eyes, until he grabbed Sonic by the arm and knocked on his head.

"Hello, hello, anybody home? Think, Sonic, think." Scourge said, "I gotta have time to recopy it. Do you realize what would happen if I hand in my homework in your handwriting? I'd get kicked out of school. You wouldn't want that to happen would you?"

Sonic hesitated to answer, until Scourge pulled him up to him as he asked again in a threatening tone, "Would you?"

"No, of course not, Scourge," Sonic replied, "now, I wouldn't want that to happen."

"Uh, no, no, no, no." Scourge playfully replied in a mean way, until he turned and saw Silver looking at them, and growled, "What are you looking at, butt-head?"

The duck took a good look at Silver and what he was wearing and chuckled, "Hey Scourge, check out this guy's life preserver! Dork thinks he's gonna drown."

"Whatever, Bean.." Scourge rolled his eyes, before looking back at Sonic and asked, "Yeah, well, how about my homework, Sonic?"

"Uh, well, okay Scourge, uh, I'll finish that on up tonight and I'll bring it over first thing tomorrow morning." Sonic nervously replied.

"Hey not too early I sleep in Sunday's," Scourge stated, before looking down at Sonic's feet, "hey, Sonic, your shoe's untied," Sonic looked down, only to be fwiped by Scourge's hand, earning some mean chuckles from Scourge and his goons, as the green bully said "don't be so gullible, Sonic."

As he started to leave, he looked to Sonic as he added, "I don't wanna see you in here again."

"Okay, alright, bye-bye…" Sonic replied, before going back to his little meal he was having as the bullies left.

Silver, meanwhile, was still stunned at what had happened, and continued to look at his father, completely shocked that he was standing at the young version of him too.

After a few minutes, Sonic instantly turned and looked at Silver with a nervously annoyed look and asked, "What?!"

"You're Sonic Hedgehog." Silver mustered up.

"Yeah, well, who are you?" Sonic asked.

Before Silver could reply, an armadillo waiter came up to Sonic, "Say, why do you let those boys push you around like that?"

"Well, they're bigger than me." Sonic replied.

"Stand tall, boy, have some respect for yourself. Don't you know that if you let people walk all over you know, they'll be walking all over you for the rest of your life?" the armadillo pointed out, "Listen to me, do you think I'm gonna spend the rest of my life in this slop house?"

"Watch it, Mighty." the cashier said, as he passed by the armadillo, Mighty, in which Sonic instantly realized who was talking to his young dad.

"No sir, I'm gonna make something out of myself," Mighty continued talking, "I'm going to night school and one day I'm gonna be somebody."

"That's right, he's gonna be mayor." Silver blurted out a little.

Mighty was about to speak again, until he suddenly perked up at what Silver had said, "Mayor… Now that's a good idea. I could run for mayor."

"Heh, that'll be the day." the cashier rolled his eyes a little.

"You wait and see, Mr. Caruthers, I will be mayor and I'll be the most powerful mayor in the history of Green Hill, and I'm gonna clean up this town." Mighty said proudly to his boss.

"Good," Mr. Caruthers said with a hint of sarcasm, before saying as he handed Mighty a broom, "you could start by sweeping the floor."

While he did his job on sweeping the floor, Mighty was still interested on the idea of being mayor, "Mayor Mighty Wilson. I like the sound of that."

Silver looked on seeing the whole scene unfold, before looking back to his father… only he was gone.

Looking around, Silver finally spotted him outside, riding his bike and heading off.

Getting out of his seat, Silver quickly ran out and after the young version of his dad, crying out, "Hey Da-, Sonic! Hey, you on the bike."

Later…

After a good amount of running, Silver was a little bit out of breath.

His dad sure knew how to ride a bike pretty fast, but finally he spotted it.

However, it was laying down on a nearby tree, and Silver soon started looking around where his dad could have got to.

Then, as he looked up, he found, hanging from a branch, and he had binoculars on.

Was he bird watching like his mother said?

Silver looked at the direction of where he was observing… and spotted a house nearby, with one of the top floor windows open.

Taking a closer look… he spotted someone, a girl seemingly getting changed.

"He's a peeping tom." Silver muttered to himself in a bit of disbelief.

But suddenly, as Sonic was still observing, he slipped and fell from the branch, just as a car was heading towards him!

"Dad!" Silver gasped in alarm, and in an instant, quickly pushed Sonic out of the way, only to bump into the car himself, luckily it didn't run him over, only knocked him out as he fell to the road with a thud.

Sonic was shocked at what had happened, until the driver came out of his car and saw Silver laying on the road in front of his car, then looked to Sonic, who was looking a bit nervous, and started to retreat back to his bike.

"Hey wait, wait a minute, who are you?" the driver asked, but it was too late, Sonic quickly pedaled away, then the driver looked back down at Silver, then called out to the house that Sonic was observing, "Stella, another one of these dang kids jumped in front of my car. Come on out here, help me take him in the house."

Laying there, Silver was out for the count, and had just bumped into his dad, and stopped him getting run over…

Though maybe that was a bad idea…
