(part 4)

The berg glows green... because of a craft that crashed up in the Arctic, ice ages ago. The evil energy it gives off pulls in both

living and non-living matter, like a magnet. The 'alien energy' also drains all other types of energy - and the Life Force itself!

###

The Helmsman struggled hard to keep the ship moving straight and upright... as the magnetic-like pull from the green berg had intensified. He felt tired.

In fact, the crews of both the steamship and the other ship coming closer, were feeling very fatigued... Like they'd had no sleep for a day or more.

The deafening, booming and pulsing... of the high, ear-splitting thrumming noise, coming from the iceberg, quickened... A siren call.. of Death!

"Prepare to abandon ship... Get the lifeboats out on the port side... We'll try to make a run for it!" yelled the Captain, up to the bridge.

The other ship, now seen in Halvorsen's spyglass... is a naval vessel. An American destroyer... Sumner class. Its 5-inch guns then 'spoke'.

The first volley hit the water, raising a tall plume of seawater. The targeting radio operator on the destroyer adjusted for the range.

Crack! The next several salvoes hit the berg square on. A few more hit the ice-tomb of the shining object just at the right spot.

The ice broke free... And the 'object', as seen by Halvorsen in his spyglass... Tilted, then slid off the face of the berg.

Into the sea, with a bright green splash! But this was not the finale... By no means.

A slow roar from beneath the waves... rolled across the sonar, on the destroyer.

Also, all about the ocean.

It built up... and up... and up... in intensity...

Then: BOOM!

Greenish lighting flashed... Up from the depths. Up... to the Heavens.

A minute later... The seas were silent once more... Peaceful.

The large pod of whales then moved slowly off and away.

After sunrise... the next morning, on a much calmer ocean:

"Thank-You, Captain Halvorsen... For your cooperation... in this matter."

The captain of the American destroyer had been advised by Command, to keep the 'Incident'... Quiet. Secret, at all costs.

"Certainly, Sir. And, Thank-You! for your ship's help. Seems the cavalry does arrive in Time... Now and then." replied Halvorsen, smiling.

The American captain gave a knowing grin back... Maybe it was a 'foo-fighter' - a German War Experiment - or something stranger? But the odd object would

never really be inspected up close or ever fully known... It lay now under 2 miles of cold seawater. And, hopefully... 'it' would sleep again - for another Eternity.

(THE END)

Thank-You, Rod Serling, for creating The Twilight Zone.

You transformed the darkness you experienced in WW-2 into something bright, beautiful and eternally hopeful.
