Fanfiction - Alvin and the chipmunks - "How long I can last"
Chapter 4 – "Relaxing and family time"
Creating inventions has always been something special to me. Something that developed my mind and gave me a sense of fulfilment. Ever since I can remember, I always did it when I wanted to feel at ease. To feel free from all worries, from any pain and from my overwhelming thoughts.
It was the same at the day that Dave picked me up from school. I was stressed out and I just wanted to relax and forget about everything.
Simon pov:
I waited for Dave in front of the school. After 5 minutes of waiting I saw my parent's car. I saw him coming out of it and heading towards me. As soon as Dave saw me, his face got pale. I knew I didn't look too good, but I didn't know to what extent.
Dave rushed towards me and then knelt just before me.
- "Simon, are you, all right? Is it hurt? "- Dave said nervously, while touching my face gently. I rolled my eyes a little.
- "it' s all right Dave. The nurse said that nothing was broken and everything should heal within 2 or 3 days" - I told him with a soft smile. I could see the loosening in his posture as if someone took off a massive rock from his shoulders.
- "it's a good thing that nothing serious happened to you" - Dave sighed with relief. After that, a gentle smile returned to his face – "You're probably tired. Let's go home! "
Our travel has passed mostly in silence. Dave tried to have a conversation with me but I wasn't in the mood to get really caught up in it.
After we arrived home Dave gave me a spare pair of glasses and looked at me troubled.
- "Simon, please go get some rest. I have to go back to work, so I can't stay with you "- Dave said sadly with his hand on my shoulder.
- "Dave, I'm fine. I know how to take care of myself so you don't have to worry. If something happens, I'll call you" - I said with a reassuring smile. Dave smiled at me and patted my head.
- "Okay, Simon. I trust you... I have to go now, but I will come back later with your brothers "- Dave said while getting up then he took his keys waved to me and left.
After Dave left, I went down to our basement where my secret laboratory is hidden. I pressed the 14-digit code and opened hidden door in the wall. I walked into a dark room and turned on the lights. The white lights illuminated the room. I needed a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the bright light. After I got used to it, I saw my beloved place - my Lab.
An entire room was filled with various inventions. On the left side against the wall stood a desk on which numerous mechanical parts were lying and above it hung tools. Right next to the desk stood a massive storage shelf full of drawers and shelves on which you could see Simon's minor innovations.
The walls were decorated with light blue tiles and the floor was made of greyish flooring.
From the ceiling were hanging cables and a large lamp containing white-bulb light.
Despite the chaos that prevailed in the room. It looked neat and tidy.
Simon walked up to his desk and took out of one of the drawers a device that resembled a space gun from the alien movies. He sat down on a chair and started working on his invention.
There was complete silence in the room, only the sounds of the tools used by Simon could be heard, but at some point, the silence was interrupted by Simon's excited shout.
- "I'm done! Finally, my invention is finished! I will name you..."- Simon thought for a moment and then exclaimed - "por duplicação"- A triumphant smile appeared on his face.
The eager chipmunk could not wait for the test stage. He started to prepare the place for testing. He put the apple on a metal stand and moved away from it a few steps. Simon put on his safety goggles and gloves to protect his hands from a possible unexpected explosion of the device, which has already happened too many times. Simon set the power of the device to a minimum and then started to aim his gun at the apple. He was about to fire when suddenly he heard the slamming of the front door and Dave's loud voice.
- "Simon, we are home! Come down here we are about to make dinner!"
Simon sighed. His much-awaited moment of testing his device will have to wait until tomorrow. He put the gun down on his desk and took off his protective clothing.
After making sure that he turned off all the tools and the lights Simon closed the hidden door to his lab and went upstairs to the kitchen.
- "Oh, Simon it's good you're already here"-Dave said when he saw Simon walking towards him - " The dinner will be ready in a moment. If you want to, you can just sit in the dining room and wait for your brothers to join us" - Dave added with a smile and returned back to cooking. Simon followed his parent words and went to sit in his seat at the table. A moment later, he heard the sounds of his brothers' feet coming down. Soon afterwards he saw them. Theodore immediately ran towards him with a worried expression on his face.
- "Simon, are you, all right? We were really worried about you. We even wanted to go to the nurse and see how you were feeling, but before we got there the class bell rang and the teacher told us to go back to class" - Theodore finished talking catching his breath. Simon looked at him with a light smile on his face.
- "It's all right, Theodore. I only have some bruises and that's it. They should heal over the weekend" - Simon said, seeing the Theodore relaxing slowly.
- "It's good to hear" - The little chipmunk replied with a smile.
While Simon and Theodore were talking Alvin sat at the table with a grimace on his face. His thoughts were returning to the events of today's game of dodgeball and the way Derek played. Before he knew, he began to speak his thoughts aloud.
-" I can't believe this jerk did it. When I see him again, I'll kick his ass..."- Alvin was mumbling under his nose until he heard Simon grunting.
-" Alvin, it was just an accident"- Simon said attempting to convince his brother of the truth of his words, though deep down he knew Derek's actions were intentional.
-" It wasn't an accident! If only you could see his smile after you fell on the ground…Argh!...The next time I meet him..."- Alvin said through clenched teeth. Simon sighed and then gazed at his brother.
- "Alvin... don't do anything you'll regret later…"
- "But!" -Alvin interrupted his brother's speech.
- "We shouldn't worry about such things. They often happen during this kind of game. Besides, nothing happened to me."-Simon said sadly-"We shouldn't bother about what happened in the past, but what is gonna happen in the future and what is happening now...So Alvin, please forget it."- Simon said with a smile despite all of the painful thoughts stuck inside his head
'It is enough that I have to suffer from this. I don't want you to be burdened with what I feel now too...'.
Alvin hearing his brother's words and seeing his smile, calmed down. His mad face turned into a playful smile.
- "Yeah, maybe you're right. After all, who would have wanted to worry about Derek in the first place?" - Alvin said with a light giggle. Theodore hearing Alvin's words also started giggling.
-"Yeah! who would have wanted to" - Theodore said, trying to refrain from the ever-increasing grin on his face. Simon, seeing his brothers' smiling faces couldn't help but give them a soft smile.
Despite his constantly wondering what Derek could do to him when the weekend was over, Simon decided to worry about it later on because he is now safe at his home with his family.
Three brothers waited together in the dining room laughing.
