Fanfiction – Alvin and the chipmunks – "How long I can last"

Chapter 7 – "Listen to your brother"

I don't trust my brothers. I mean, I have no trust in one of them - Alvin... He can always make even the simplest of tasks a catastrophe. When I gave him my previous inventions, he used them for his silly plays. For example, when I built high-speed roller blades with a 100 km/h acceleration function.

I told him then clearly and distinctly - don't touch them! - But of course, my older brother couldn't stop his curiosity and took them anyway... Alvin then called me after an hour and asked me how to switch off the skates because he was unable to stop ... We found him three hours later in another town. He said he had put the rollerblades on and set them to maximum speed and was unable to stop them…

Naturally, there was a financial penalty that Dave had to pay for the fact that, first of all, a minor drove roller blades on a road! and, secondly, that Alvin hit a few things during his trip and destroyed them in the process.

I could tell other millions of stories about my older brother, who causes problems wherever he goes… ehhh

I just wonder if he will ever become responsible, or if he will remain like that forever.

Dave and Simon left home first thing in the morning which left the other brothers alone in the house.

Alvin and Theodore sat together watching TV. Theodore was eating popcorn, while Alvin was deeply immersed in his thoughts of how he could put his hands on a Simon's gun, but nothing came to his mind. He was about to give up already, but when he saw Theodore walking into the kitchen with an almost empty bowl of popcorn, he came up with an incredible idea. Alvin followed his brother to the kitchen.

Alvin's pov.

When I came into the kitchen, I saw Theodore searching the cabinets. I approached him quietly.

- "Theodore, what are you looking for?" - I asked him. Theodore wasn't aware that I followed him into the kitchen, so when he heard my voice, he flinched away slightly. He looked in my direction with alarmism in his eyes.

- "Oh, it's just you, Alvin"-Theodore relaxed, being sure that only I was in the room with him now. - "I was just looking for another pack of popcorn, because what I've made is about to be finished." - My brother answered my question while continuing searching the cabinets. My mind was telling me that this was the perfect opportunity to implement my plan. And who doesn't listen to their mind on such occasions

- "Unfortunately, I think we don't have any more packages, Theodore"- I said with false sadness in my voice.

- "Oh? Do you think so?...It's a pity I felt like having a little more"- Theodore said sadly. A little smirk appeared on my lips, but I quickly replaced it with an overwhelming expression because for my plan to succeed I had to convince my brother that I was right.

- "You know, I also wanted some popcorn... And what left is far too little for the two of us"- I said, worried. Theodore saddened even more, but he quickly cheered himself up.

- "If you want to, I can just go to the shop and buy us some more"- he said with a smile on his face.

- "No! You can't!" - I yelled in panic, but quickly realised what I had done. I grunted and then returned to my acting - "Ugh... I mean, it takes an awful long time just to get to the shop"- Theodore looked at me with disbelief.

- "Alvin, you know it's only five minutes away, right?"- He asked me, worried.

- "It's too looooooong!"- I complained

- "But that's the only way to do it"-Theodore said confused. I smiled mischievously.

- "No, not the only way"

- "Oh, no, Alvin I don't want to do it, every time you smile like that you get us into trouble!" - Theodore said disagreeing. I swung my hands in the air.

-"Come on, Theodore, you don't even know what I meant"- I cried out. Theodore just gave me a look then he sighed.

- "Okay Alvin, tell me what you had in mind"

- "I want to use Simon's invention to duplicate some popcorn! "- I said with a big smile.

- "No"- Theodore responded immediately.

- "Why not?"

- "Simon would be angry if we used his invention"- He said with a frown.

- "No, he wouldn't"- I said - "I think he'd even be happy to come home and see that his device works perfectly, don't you think?" - I asked my brother.

- "I..I.i"-Theodore didn't know what to say. On the one hand, he knew that Simon would be angry with them, and on the other hand, he could not ignore the fact that he could make his brother happy... in some way.

- "Besides, think!" - I continued to encourage my brother to my plan - "We wouldn't have to spend Dave's hard-earned money annddd We both know how HARD he works to give us the BEST possible life, don't we?''- I knew that one mention of Dave would immediately get Theodore into my plan and I wasn't wrong this time too.

-"Yeah, Dave has been working very hard lately..."- Theodore said thoughtfully. I have been waiting impatiently for Theodor's answer. After a few moments, I heard what I had been waiting for from the beginning.

-"Okay, I'm gonna do it!"- Theodor said finally.

The two chipmunks went down to the basement where Simon's secret lab was. They stood in front of the wall staring at the security panel that would allow them to get inside the hidden room.

- "Alvin, how are you actually going to get in there?" - Theodore asked intrigued. Alvin corrected his posture and stood proudly.

- "Haha, there you go brother! Yesterday I spent all day trying to break in here, right?"- Alvin said with a smile -"I probably tested a thousand ways to get in here... And there's only one left for me to try!" - Alvin proceeded to press the switches on the security panel and discovered a place where he had to enter the 14-digit code. He took out a small notebook from his pocket and started to flip through the pages until he found the one, he was looking for.

- "Alvin, what is this?"- Theodore asked, amazed and a little disturbed. A mischievous smile appeared on Alvin's face.

- "It's my notebook... In it I write down all the passwords that Simon uses to lock his lab from me. He's already changed his code about twenty times, so this little thing comes in handy" - Alvin said while waving his notebook slightly. Theodore stood there dumbfounded.

- "Wow Alvin this is... that's clever"-Theodore said amazed. Alvin's ego rose up to the clouds - "I didn't think you could come up with something like that"-Theodore finished his thought. Annd ego goes down.

-" HEY!"- Alvin yelled indignantly, but Theodore ignored him and just shrugged it off. When his brother saw this, he went back to reading his notebook while muttering something under his breath. He started to slowly press the 14-digit code once in a while looking at an open page in the notebook. He started to slowly enter the 14-digit code, looking down from time to time at the open page in his notebook. When he pressed the last number, he immediately jumped away from the security panel and covered his face with his hands. Theodore followed his brother's example and did the same thing as him. Suddenly they heard a beeping sound. Alvin thought it might be another one of Simon' s trap, but instead a door hidden in the wall swung open. A dark room was revealed before their eyes. Alvin was the first to awake from his shock.

- "Yes!"-he shouted-"We did it, Theodore!"-Theodore nodded, already walking towards the lab. He quickly managed to find the light switch, because he happened to sit there together with Simon from time to time when he worked on his inventions. Theodore usually then talked for two, but he knew that his brother was carefully listening to him, so he didn't mind him working on something else while he's with him.

Theodore turned on the light. The whole room lit up with a harsh white light. Alvin immediately got down to business and started looking for something that reminded him of the gun Simon had talked about.

While his brother searched the lab Theodore just stood beside wall and watched him.

After looking through a few shelves Alvin walked towards the desk. There were a few tools and metal parts lying on it, but other than that there was something lying there that caught the chipmunk's attention.

- "Bingo!"- Alvin said satisfied looking at the gun-like device lying on the desk. He picked it up. Theodore walked over to his brother and started examining the device closely. In his head an uncertainty started to arise 'maybe we shouldn't do this' these words filled his thoughts. Alvin had no such thoughts and as soon as he had the gun in his possession, he took Theodore's hand and started running towards the living room dragging his brother with him.

- "Come on, Theodore, it's time to test this baby!" -Alvin said excited while running

The two chipmunks quickly came running into the living room. Alvin let go of Theodore's hand and walked toward the bowl of popcorn they had left. Theodore quickly joined his brother. They both stood over the bowl.

Alvin began examining the gun to find its switch.

- "Alvin, I think maybe we shouldn't do this after all." - Before Theodore could finish speaking Alvin had found the switch. Without waiting to hear what his brother had to say, he set the power of the device to the first level and directed it at the popcorn. A bright beam of light came out of the machine. Theodore and Alvin became momentarily blinded for a few seconds. When they recovered from the shock they looked towards the popcorn. Instead of one popcorn there were now two.

- "Oh yeah, it works Theodore!"- Alvin shouted excitedly.

- "WOOOW! Do it again!"- Theodore said excitedly. Alvin didn't wait for his brother to repeat himself. He shot another 4 rays of light aiming at the popcorn and 4 new copies appeared in the bowl.

- "that's amazing!" - Theodore said captivated, then took one of the copies and put it in his mouth. He chewed it thoroughly and swallowed it. Alvin waited impatiently for his reaction.

- "It tastes just as good as the original Alvin!"-the little chipmunk said with a big smile on his face. Hearing his brother's recommendation Alvin went over and ate one of the copies.

- "You're right, they taste the same!"- Alvin confirmed and looked at the popcorn again- "But at this rate we will copy it until tomorrow..."

- "Yeah... How about we set the gun to the next power level? That way maybe we can get it done a little faster"-Theodor suggested taking another popcorn to his mouth.

Alvin nodded at his brother's suggestion then focused his attention on the power indicator, which was set to minimum. The device had the option of setting it to different power levels. From minimum to 5. Plus marked with a big exclamation mark and coloured red the highest power indicator 'maximum'. Alvin looked at the maximum sign for a longer moment and then the thought 'What if we set it to the max?' popped out in his head.

Theodore became curious about what his brother was looking at with such concentration, so he looked to where Alvin was looking. He saw the word maximum then looked uncertainly at the chipmunk. On Alvin's face was one of his famous mischievous grins that always meant trouble.

- "Alvin, you don't want to do what I'm thinking about…right? " - Theodore asked fearfully. Alvin's smile widened then he quickly backed away from Theodore and switched the machine's power level to 'maximum'.

Before Theodore could stop his brother, Alvin fired another beam. Both waited in silence for what was about to happen. After a moment, waves of popcorn began to pour out of the bowl. They slowly began to fill the floor in the living room. Alvin and Theodore started screaming. They tried to somehow reverse the effect of the machine, but it was of no use. The popcorn didn't stop multiplying. In a moment it had filled almost an entire living room and was heading towards the kitchen and the stairs. Alvin and Theodore started running towards the front door, but their path was blocked by a mountain of popcorn. Seeing that their escape route was blocked Alvin took Theodore' hand and dragged them both inside one of the cabinets standing in the living room. They closed the cabinet door as much as they could and waited for the sound of the reproducing popcorn to stop.

After waiting for 5 minutes, the popcorn stopped reproducing.

Hearing no sound of copying, Theodore opened the cabinet door slightly. Seeing no further increase in the number of popcorns he slowly walked out of the cabinet. Alvin followed right behind him. Both brothers were standing in the middle of the living room and around them piles of popcorn could be seen filling almost every nook and cranny of the house. The entire living room and kitchen were covered in them, and the stairs upstairs were not even visible. Their home looked like one big mess.

Alvin and Theodore looked at what had happened.

- "Alvin what have we done? "
