"Okay Blazekin, we need to catch a grass or flying pokemon for our team." Harukas heart was filled with excitement as she explored the new region she found herself in.
Even though it was still technically winter, the sun was beaming overhead. Smiling brightly, she pulled out her pokedex and motioned for her starter to come closer.
"Kin?" The bipedal fighting chicken looked amused at his trainers excitement as he looked over her shoulder down to the digital screen.
It took a few moments, but eventually Haruka clicked on a specific line of words and an image appeared. "I want this one." Shoving the device in her pokemons face, they both listened to the mechanical voices description.
"Gynni, the bolt bug Pokemon. These Pokemon are revered for their unimaginable speed. They were captured in hoards and evolved into Elemorpha. These electric secondary Pokemon were used in ancient times as sneak attack weapons during times of warfare and unrest. They are one of ten pokemon capable of using the move rakio. The red lightning is so hot it can melt steel."
As soon as the voice ceased, Hikari snapped the pokedex shut and looked up at her partner hopefully. "He would be perfect for our team don't you think Blazekin?"
Nodding in agreement, Blazekin grew determined to find the tiny bug Pokemon his trainer wanted. She was an amazing trainer and they had been together so long that he couldn't imagine letting her down.
The humans in her life did that enough. With that thought in mind, Blazekin rushed forward into a wooded area at the edge of the flower field. "Blazekin? Where are you going? Wait up!"
Chasing after her pokemon, Haruka felt a jolt of anxiousness run through her veins. If there was one thing Haruka could count on, it was her Blazekin finding the pokemon she desired. He had a knack for always finding the perfect ones, so she smiled and trusted that wherever he was leading her would be worth it.
It took about ten minutes for them to finally come to a stop. Haruka was out of breath and gasping for air, while Blazekin calmly walked up to point at a nearby berry bush.
"You made me run for pecha berries?!" While Harukas face began turning red in fury, Blazekin just shook his head and pointed to the Bush again. Thankfully the brunette looked just as the bush moved.
It took her a moment to realize what she was looking at was a tiny bug munching on fallen berries and Blazekin was ready to battle it.
"Oh wow, you found one..."
Nodding with pride, Blazekin wasted no time in walking up to the unsuspecting Gynni. Knowing better than to keep her hand you hot head of a partner waiting, she grinned and pointed forward. "Ok, let's try bullet burn!"
With a smirk, Blazekin took in a deep breath and pointed his face toward the bush. But just as he opened his mouth to let loose his attack, the Gynni was suddenly surrounded by a glittering blue pollin that they both immediately recognized as sleep powder.
"Shit... Get out of the way Blazekin." Thinking it was another wild pokemon protecting its territory, Haruka became more aware if her surroundings. Within seconds her mood went from happy but slightly nervous, to downright agitated.
From the cover of the giant oak trees came an open pokeball
It landed on the Gynni that was struggling to stay awake, engulfing it in a red light before it vanished. After a few shakes a loud chime was heard followed by the most obnoxious voice she could think of. "Yes we got her! Good job Roselia."
There was no mistaking that song like voice. As a head of bright green hair emerged, Haruka lost her cool"Shuu? What the hell?!"
"Haruka?" Looking up from where he was bent over picking up his pokeball, Shuu smiled widely. Sure he planned on running into her as often as possible, he didn't expect to see the brunette so soon. And definitely not alone. Where was Hikari? "What are you doing out here by yourself?"
"The better question is," Haruka curled her fists at her side's and struggled to keep her voice calm. Stomping forward until she was fave to face with the guy that seemed determined to piss her off every time he saw her. "What are you doing here? And why the hell did you just steal that pokemon from under me?!"
She didn't mean to yell but it was either that or give herself a brain aneurysm. Just looking at him pissed her off. Why did he have to be so damn perfect?! She wanted to hate him, especially after what he did. But even after watching him steal her pokemon she still found a slight attraction itching in the back of her mind, pissing her off even further.
He didn't deserve her affections. He was a chauvinistic, womanizing, prick! Why? WHY did she have such a hard time hating him? Why was she more annoyed with herself than the man in front of her?
She wasn't the only annoyed one though. After being accused of stealing a Pokemon he'd been tracking for hours, Shuu wasn't in the best mood anymore. "What are you talking about? I've been chasing that thing all morning!"
"Bull. I found it first. I was fixing to attack when you cheated!" How could someone so beautiful be so stupid? It wasn't possible. That was all Shuu could think as he rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders.
"I didn't cheat, you're just too slow." Arceus why do I have to be such a jerk?! Seeing the hurt on Harukas face, Shuu backtracked and tried a different approach. "Besides, you specialize in fire pokemon not bug. Why do you want it so bad?"
"I..." Not wanting to give away Hikaris secrets, she tried to think if a good excuse but came up blank. So she just spat out the first thing she thought of. "I just wanna try something new ok." Oh yeah, real convincing Haruka.
She knew he wouldn't take that excuse at face value. Or at least that's what she assumed. But he did, in fact, take her excuse at face value. But contrary to her belief, he wasn't an idiot.
Shuu knew Haruka was hiding something from him, but he decided it wasn't an issue worth pushing right then. Instead he patted the brunette on the back and smirked. "Fine. But you cant have my Pokemon."
"Shuu!" Haruka began to yell, fully prepared to argue her point, but was quickly silenved. Grabbing her hand, Shuu started to walk, dragging her behind him.
"Come on, I'll help you find something you'll like better anyway."
XxX
"So are you going for a new type speciality or are you trying for a mixed team this time?" About thirty minutes passed and the two trainers found themselves nearing yet another clearing in the woods.
Shuu had taken every opportunity to keep Haruka talking. He asked about mundane things hoping to get her guard down before he finally asked the question. Trying to find out the truth about her sudden shift in speciality, he figured he could get her to tell without him having to ask directly.
But any ideas if big bad secrets were squashed when she logically explained her reasoning. "I'm gonna mix it up this time around. I've been traveling a long time and have lots of fire types already. Since this is my last journey, I figured I could get a few trump pokemon in my arsenal."
"Makes sense. Any particular types you're wanting?" Haruka was just happy she had a chance to come up with a better excuse. She wasn't a moron, she knew exactly what he was doing. Shuu thought she would be dumb enough to just tell him whatever he wanted to know
But it wasn't Harukas story to tell. At least he was starting to believe her fake reasons.
"There's a few I want. But-" Her words were cut off as Shuu practically pounced on her and pulled her behind a tree.
"Shuu? What the f-"
"Look!" The excited grass head didn't even let her talk. Instead he pointed forward at a small creek in a semi clear patch of trees.
An adorable pink and yellow kid. The baby goat was drinking and looked exhausted. Harukas heart instantly melted and she was so absorbed in the absolute kawaiiness that she didn't notice Shuu gazing at her like she was the only thing in the world.
He knew she would love the Pokemon. He had seen it a while back and had been tracking it without telling her. Shuu wanted Haruka to have the perfect pokemon and based on her reaction, he'd hit the nail on the head. Pulling out his pokedex, Shuu pointed the camera at the a small pokemon and waited.
"Boltier, the mythical goat Pokemon. In ancient times, Boltier were farmed for their extremely soft wool. Because it wool changes with the seasons, it made for perfect camoflauge materials. Unfortunately, they would be slaughtered before they had a chance to evolve due to superstitions about their final stage."
"It says here they can learn fairy and electric type moves. This would be really good for a trump card pokemon."
Nearly squealing in excitement, Haruka pointed forward as her loyal starter rushed to her side. "Alright Blazekin, don't let it get away! We don't want to hurt it so get close and use fire punch! And it quick."
Nodding in understanding, the bipedal fighting chicken ran toward the lake with fire surrounding his claws. Upon seeing his target was a hatching, he slowed down and lowered his flames.
High heat wouldn't be necessary. He just needed to get one good strike on the head and the little kid would knock out without time to feel any pain. By the time his trainer released him, he will have already been healed by one of the nice pink haired humans in the red building.
As soon as his fist connected, Blazekin moved out of the way so Haruka would have plenty of room to toss her pokeball. In sync with him as always, the brunette tossed a pink ball at the now unconscious pokemon. "Alright, here goes!" As the ball went flying through the air, tgree sets of eyes watched in anticipation.
Eventually it came to a stop and fell on top of the snoozing kid. A red light surrounded the pokemon before it was sucked into the ball. Snapping shut, the capsule began to shake back and fourth. But just as quickly as it began it ended with a loud chime. "Yes, I did it!"
Shuu was happy to see Haruka so excited. As soon as she picked up the ball, he walked over with his move scanner out on his green pokedex. "Not bad red. Let's scan it."
"Boltier, female
level 15
Special ability: Serene Calm. This move doubles the chances of a direct hit. It also renders all held items useless. In extreme moments of danger, a calming aroma will be released that leaves anything within 100 foot radius to fall into a deep happy sleep.
Moves: Nuzzle, Twinkle Tackle, and Thunder Kick"
As the robotic voice ceased, Shuu closed the device and handed Haruka back her newly captured Boltier feeling genuinely impressed with the tiny creature. "That's a really good base set. So do you think-"
BOOM
Shuus sentence was cut off by a huge explosion before he even had a chance to think. The ground began to shake causing Haruka to stumble to her knees. A large cloud of smoke rose above the trees and the green haired man found himself in a daze
"What the hell was that?!"
"That's near our camp..." Haruka hadn't gotten up off the ground, but liking toward the source of the explosion caused what little strength she had to drain from her body. A thousand scenarios ran through her head and with a sudden sense of urgency, she jumped up and began to run off without saying a word to Shuu.
"Haruka?" His daze was replaced by a mixture of confusion and worry. Haruka didn't run. Physical excessive wasn't her thing. So seeing her run like a track star toward the smoky woods had his body acting on instinct. Grabbing her forgotten bag, he began to chase after her, praying whatever she thought was happening was wrong.
Little did either of them know, this would be the beginning of the biggest adventure of their lives.
