Prologue:

Skye Johnson had grown up beautiful. Although she seemed not to notice her attractiveness, it was obvious to anyone who came near her. Her hair was the color of the midnight sky while her eyes the color of the forest leaves. Her skin was pale and her lips slightly pink. She was by no means tall but she was also not short. She had a slender figure and always wore robes that hid the curves of her shape.

Right now, she wore robes the color of the snow in winter. Mainly, Skye didn't wear white but she had been invited to a council meeting which meant her royal robes, which, unfortunately, were white.

Cursing silently as her bare feet stepped over the leaves and branches with no sound, she stopped for a moment to stare at the rising sun. For a second, she considered turning back and sending a message pigeon saying she couldn't make it. However, before she could commit herself to that plan, Galadriel's voice came to her. "Do not shirk your duty, else someone else will steal it." Although Galadriel wasn't her mother, she had raised Skye.

Taking another step and continuing her journey, Skye cursed out loud. Her dog, or more correctly, wolf, froze and shifted his head before continuing, used to the muttering of his mistress.

Before Skye could curse at the size of the forest, she came to a stop at the gates of Rivendell.

She stepped forward, catching the eye of a guard. Nodding to the elf, she strode forward. She came to a stop before the gates, waiting for the question that she would, undoubtedly, have to answer.

"Name, please," came the sweet voice of an elf. Skye nodded to him before answering. "Lady Skye, responding to the call of Lord Elrond." The guard, who Skye could not identify, let her through. She supposed it was only natural she should be stopped, as it was a rare occasion that she exited her home. She strode forward, ignoring the questioning gazes she received. As soon as she arrived at the door of the castle, Arwen, Elrond's daughter, stepped out.

"Skye!" Arwen called, running to meet her best friend. Skye hugged her just as tightly before releasing. "You must tell me everything of Rivendell, up to date," Skye demanded, holding Arwen's hand as they entered the castle.

"Of course," Arwen responded, pulling her along.
