Sunday, December 30th

Marceline, much like most mornings, was wrapped up in her comforter, sipping her coffee silently at the kitchen counter. Rain hummed to herself as she flipped another pancake on the stove. When it landed it sizzled against the butter with a satisfying tsssss.

Rain had stayed over at Simon's with her, claiming that since it was Marceline's last night to drink illegally, they needed to make a day of it. They chatted all night over minuscule problems and sipped at fine wine from Simon's liquor cabinet. Simon usually never minded her drinking, as long as it was safe. He preferred it to be under his supervision, if possible.

She was twenty one now. Well, technically not until 10 pm or so. But today she was finally deemed old enough to consume alcohol. It didn't feel like as big of a milestone as it was hyped up to be. She didn't feel twenty-one.

Bonnie would join them later near noon or so. She was staying with Brittany Pratt, a horrid bitch of a woman, that Bonnie found some sort of liking to. Bonnie had always found the good in people, but Brittany was a hands-down jack ass. To put it into perspective, Brittany and Lillian Price were friends. Best friends at that. Surrounding yourself with bad omens technically makes you a bad omen.

Rain looked over her shoulder, smiling at Marceline who stared off into space, thinking about nothing in particular. "You okay there, Abadeer?"

"Just waking up." She smirked, sipping again at her coffee, still staring off. She just then realized how bitter her coffee was. The color was still dark. Although she could drink it black, she preferred a splash of cream. "Can you hand me the creamer?"

"Of course, anything for the birthday girl." Rain smiled brightly.

Marceline laughed, taking the liquid creamer from her slender fingers. "I don't feel any different." She admitted, pouring a ridiculous amount of creamer in her coffee. Shit.

"I didn't either, until a few months in when I realized I didn't need that stupid fake ID anymore."

Marceline chuckled. "Oh yeah, almost forgot about that." She rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand. The sandman had visited last night, leaving crusty presents in the corners of her eyes.

"Bonnie's twenty, right?"

"Yup, until June."

Rain hummed in thought, turning back to her cooking. "She's not really a drinker is she?"

Marceline handed the creamer back to Lady. "I've never personally seen her drink. Apparently she had a pretty messy drunk moment in Ohio and swore it off. So good luck ever trying to convince her."

"I thought she was pretty prude when I first met her. But she makes up for it in sweetness and ambition."

Marceline chuckled. "Oh, absolutely. She studies pretty much every night. There was this one time where she was studying for a few exams and I practically had to pry her away from her books to sleep."

Rain laughed, taking a muffin pan from a cabinet. "I was thinking about making poached eggs. What do you think?"

"You don't even have to ask. Why the muffin pan?"

Lady looked behind her at the muffin pan on the counter and leaned against the island counter. "You can make more at once. I saw it on youtube video and thought I'd give it a try."

"Do you need some red wine?"

Rain shook her head, looking back at Marceline. "No, it's okay. I just wanted to see if it would work first."

"As long as I get some of those."

"Well, duh." Rain smiled again. "Oh, should I make some for Marshal?"

Marceline shook her head, sipping at her coffee. "He stayed at Garrison's last night."

Rain nodded. "I heard they're finally together."

"Who fucking knows with him. I wouldn't be surprised, but he's always had commitment issues. So..." She shook her head again at the thought. "I just don't think the timing is right. The night before he told me he wasn't mature enough. I love Garrison though, so I hope he learned his lesson and doesn't screw this one up."

"I agree. Also, I didn't know he was bi."

Marceline nodded, taking her last drink of coffee. "He's hinted at experimenting multiple times."

"I guess that answers it. I still try not to get involved with the rumors about him."

"Rumors?"

"That he's a sleaze." Rain gave a guilty look. Why did she feel bad over a rumor? It wasn't like she was breaking news to Marceline. She knew her brother was sexually irresponsible.

"Kinda, I suppose. He seemed to have matured a little after the last girlfriend."

"Fionna?"

"Yeah, her." Marceline rested her coffee cup on the counter was a reverberating 'clink'. "I think she reminds him of an old friend."

"Sensitive subject?" Rain asked.

Marceline sighed. "For him, yes."

Even though Marceline had insisted that Bonnie didn't need to buy her a Christmas present or a birthday present, she did so anyway. After all, it would be extremely rude not to get anything for her girlfriend for either occasion.

She had been back and forth on a few things that she wanted to get her. Should she ask Keila a splurge on a new instrument for her? Buy her concert tickets? Maybe she should have Rain buy Marceline's favorite bottle of wine? All were too simple of a gift to give. She wanted to give more. Especially after a disaster of a visit.

It was perfect.

Marceline looked skeptical when Bonnie walked into the room with a medium-sized box in her hand. Bouncing on her toes, the pinkette tried and failed at hiding a devilish smirk behind her excitement.

The box was thin and wrapped in bright pink wrapping, topped with an equally and bright and annoying pink bow.

"I told you, you didn't have to get me anything." Marceline sighed, begrudgingly taking the box from her girlfriend's small hands.

"This isn't the present actually, but it is for you."

Scrunching her eyebrows together, the rocker shot her another doubtful expression. "Bonnie."

Bonnie held up a hand to shush her. "You don't get to open this one yet."

"Well, now I actually want to open it."

A smile slowly grew on her face as she placed a soft kiss onto Marceline's lips before making her way out into the hallway. "Don't open it yet." The pinkette called.

She grabbed the present out from the hallway and hauled it into Marceline's room. Her mouth only gaped slightly.

What stood before her was a long black box. Not just any long black box. It was a new hard case for her bass. The latches on her current case were loose and liable for accidents to her instrument. This one locked with a key, which was surprisingly hard to find.

"How did you know I needed one?"

"I know what I know. Do you love it or do you love it?"

Marceline jumped up from her place on the bed, placing the previously given box on the bed. "Is this custom?"

"Something like that."

Within a second, Marceline's arms wrapped around Bonnie in the tightest bear hug she had ever received from her. "You're everything. Thank you so much."

"A-anything for you, Marcy."

When Marceline pulled away the skeptical look returned to her features and she eyed the only brightly wrapped box in the room. The bright pink wrapping paper stuck out like a sore thumb in the dull/monotone colors in Marceline's room.

"So what's in the box?" She jabbed her thumb at the pink box that still lay on her bed.

"Guess you'll have to open it, huh?"

She picked the box up from the bed, tore off the bright pink wrapping and threw the lid across the room. "Bonnie, I swear to fucking Christ."

"Please wear it?"

"Absolutely not."

"Please? For me?"

"This is a bad gift."

"I never said it was a gift for you."

Marceline pulled out a green dinosaur onesie. Complete with yellow back rivets and a tail that would most definitely drag on the floor as she walked. "You...want me to wear this...in front of our friends?"

"You don't have to wear it in front of them, as long as I can take pictures to show them." The pained look on Marceline's face gave it all away. "Totally your choice."

"And if I refuse both options?"

"Then I would be super sad." Bonnie gave a fake pout and even crossed her arms for good measure. "Too sad to give kisses."

The ebony-haired girl turned and shrugged, letting the garment fall back into the box. She also took the opportunity to cross her arms. "Oh well. Your loss then."

"Then I will just have to assume you hate me."

Marceline rolled her eyes and stepped closer to her girlfriend, gripping onto the bottom hem of Bonnie's shirt and whispered, "We both know that's not true." She felt her girlfriend shiver underneath her lips as she left soft kisses trailing down her neck. Her hands found themselves caressing Bonnie's waist, her fingers sliding underneath the backside of her shirt.

The smaller girl couldn't help but let out a soft moan. Her girlfriend's lips were so warm against her cold skin. "You're so unfair..." The words came out in a sigh as Marceline pulled her closer, holding her with both arms and pressing her tightly against her body.

"Don't act like you don't love it."

Jerking herself away when a sudden sharp pain emerged. Bonnie attempted to compose herself when realizing Marceline had bit her. Her obvious blush would remain on her cheeks and neck, red hot. "Erm-You still have to wear it!"

"No way. No how."

"I bought a matching one. Does that make you feel better?"

The rocker grunted loudly, exaggerating her distaste by throwing her hands in the air and falling backward onto her bed. "Dear God, that's even worse."

"You can't deny it's super cute of us."

"That's a weird way of saying cringe."

"I swear to give you all of the kisses I possibly can and I'll buy you coffee in the morning?"

For a moment it seemed that Marceline was mulling it over. Finally, she came up with a rebuttal. "No pictures and we have a deal."

"I can promise that I will try my hardest not to sneak a picture when you fall asleep."

"And when you wake up you might find your phone missing or shattered."

"Marceline you better not."

"What? I would never do such a thing." Marceline's usual sarcastic tone began. "Ghosts could totally run off with it or something. We really have a poltergeist problem in Berkley."

"Go change, dork." Bonnie patted her arm to coach her to do so.

"Boo, no fun."

"Marceline!" Bonnie exclaimed. "I think I heard the ghost!"

This earned her an eye roll. "Oh, shut it."

As crazy as this sounded (really not at all) Bonnie seemed completely lost when she wasn't working or studying. It was as if she wasn't getting enough cognitive stimulation. Even as she sat beside Marceline reading as her girlfriend composed music on a guitar, she fidgeted and chewed on her lip. The book obviously wasn't engaging enough, as she would glance over to her girlfriend every so often.

Usually, it would take prying her away for her to get a glance from her.

The book she was reading was the last of Steven Hawking's writings. That was Marceline's Christmas present to her. Or-the whole Steven Hawking's collection. Bonnie usually went to the library for books, so she thought she might enjoy owning the entire collection. She seemed more than elated when receiving the gift.

Marceline wondered what it was truly like at her parent's house. Although she got a hint of it when she visited, she wasn't convinced that it was always strife and awkwardness. Then again, maybe it was like that. When they called at night Bonnie would have loads of stories about bickering from that day.

Hopefully, she hadn't made things worse.

"What are you thinking about?"

Bonnie quickly looked up from her book, her lip still sucked in between her teeth in thought. "Hm?"

"You look like you're thinking."

"I'm always thinking."

"What's on your mind right now?"

Closing her book, she set it down beside her opposite of the side Marceline sat. "Outside of that distracting onesie, I just want to kiss you."

Marceline scoffed. "You can kiss me at any time, princess. Plus, you owe me like bazillion pictures for these dino onesie pictures, remember?"

A visible blush crept up Bonnie's cheeks at her comment. "Ah-I know that! You're just playing guitar so I thought-" A calloused hand reached out and lightly traced Bonnie's jaw, a thumb resting ever so carefully on her bottom lip. She involuntarily sucked in a breath.

"Relax, darling. Don't overthink it." The rocker's voice was low and melodic, like a hushed melody. "You can kiss me any time you'd like." Her lips were soft against the pinkette's. Marceline's movements were so calm and smooth in comparison to the flustered Bonnibel, who snatched Marceline's shirt collar as if begging her not to leave. As if she ever could.

Everything in her told her to throw the guitar from her lap and replace it with Bonnie's body, hopelessly craving for her to touch every part of her slender figure.

Bonnie's breath grew heavier when she pushed herself forward, deepening the kiss. The guitar's strings rang when Bonnie's hand accidentally knocked into it.

"Put the guitar away." She demanded, confidence suddenly radiating.

How could she not obey?

Marceline placed the guitar against the wall before being jerked back into another kiss and being enveloped by Bonnie. Marceline pulled the girl on top of her, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend as she startled her.

Bonnie's hair cascaded down like a waterfall. Her hair was a veil that covered every inch of vision that wasn't directed toward her.

There was nothing to distract them now.

Review Time!

RikkiJade: That's basically all I do. I mean write and have no life.

Shovel Knight: The direction will keep changing, trust me. And yeah! Sun and Moon is bomb. I love the new variation forms and I'm obsessed with all of the variation art that's come out since then. That's life dude.

DarkestAngel18: As anyone would, she is definitely beating herself up over it. I mean coming out or telling non-accepting parents can be a really hard thing. Sometimes things just don't work out. And yeah..

Radcoolbro7: *thumbs up*

D3nsei: The thing is, families and others opinions always matter to people, even if they don't like to admit it. It also takes time for things to settle. Happiness may be there, but it's always on the back of your mind. Like I said, it takes time.

Princesssensei: I haven't added a lot about the mother, I kinda forgot to add much about her. My bad. I was thinking of making her kind of passive though. It mostly bothers the father though.

Bibbs: Why thank you! I love when people boost my ego.
