Hey guys, here's a bit of a short one. I have another one ready so I'll probably post that later today or tomorrow or something. I have 3 other ideas lined up so you guys get updates! Yay.
Check out the AN at the bottom. I thought I'd do a contest!
So this idea popped into my head listening to a song that came on while I was listening to iTunes Radio. The song is Not Alone by Darren Criss
Check out the song if you want.
Enjoy.
Late Night Call
Emily pulls the pillow under her head tighter as the ringing in her head gets louder. She had hoped the ringing was part of the dream she was having, but she knows it isn't. She slaps her hand down on the night stand and picks up her phone. Emily rolls onto her side from her stomach and presses the green button.
"Prentiss."
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have called."
Emily opens her eyes and stares at the dark ceiling. "Rachel. Are you okay?"
"Um, yeah, I'm sorry for calling. Go back to sleep, Em."
"Wait, no, what's wrong?"
"It's just a nightmare. I'll get over it."
Emily pushes herself up to sit against her headboard. "About the bank?" Emily asks. Rachel doesn't answer and Emily knows she's right. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know," Rachel whispers. "We shouldn't, Emily. I shouldn't have called you."
"I was there too."
"And then you left," Rachel counters with an edge to her voice.
Emily feels the sting of Rachel's words but ignores it. "It helps to talk about it."
"I kill him." Rachel admits. "There's a scuffle between you and him and he's gonna kill you. Then, a gun appears in my hand and I do it and then you're both gone."
"I'm sorry."
"I just keep hearing that gunshot." Rachel pauses. "How do you do it?"
"Do what?"
"Live this."
"I don't know," Emily whispers. "It's my job."
"Do you have nightmares?"
"Sometimes."
"How do you deal with it?"
Emily thinks for a moment. "I don't know."
Silence falls on both sides of the call.
"I think I just try to think of the good and lock everything else away," Emily starts, "focus on the positives." Emily picks at a thread on her bed cover.
"What good came from this situation?"
"You're safe," Emily says. "And Matthew is safe."
"And you're safe," Rachel adds. "I don't think I got the chance to thank you for that."
"You don't have to. I'd do it again."
"Everything?"
"No," Emily states. "But I'd always go into that bank."
Rachel inhales a soft breath. "I should go."
Emily closes her eyes and shakes her head momentarily "Will you be okay?"
"Yeah. I'm fine."
"Okay."
"Thanks," Rachel says. "Goodnight, Emily."
The call ends.
Emily scoots down on her bed to lay her head on her pillow. She rolls onto her stomach to try to sleep. Three hours until she has to wake for work. Emily sleep for an hour and a half.
Hey loyal readers: that's the end of this. Next chapter will be soon.
Upcoming chapter ideas: Rachel meets Meghan (at Emily's apartment!), Doyle, and the first time the team suspects something is going on with Emily.
Contest
I thought I'd do something kinda fun there's a reference to a scene from another crime show in the last chapter, if you can identify the scene and name the show I'll write a one-shot for you. I only ask that it's not specific to Private Life. You can always suggest something for Private Life and I'll take them into consideration. But for this No Private Life. Any fandom is open if I know it.
So reread the last chapter. If you can find the reference and name the show I'll write a one-shot for you.
Alright people that's all.
