Hey guys! So apparently time goes by ridiculously fast because I didn't realize I hadn't updated in a while. Why didn't you remind me?
I worked on this while working on the Doyle situation and my Pitch Perfect fic and some drabbles/shorts for other fandoms.
Enjoy.
Set sometime after Aftermath
Because of the Plants
Emily closes the file folder with the case report she had been working on. She stands and stretches.
"You about to head out?" Morgan asks her from his desk.
"Yeah."
"Wanna catch breakfast?"
"I know for a fact you're nowhere near done with that report."
"Some of us like to be thorough," Derek says and receives a scoff from Emily.
"I'm plenty thorough. Just faster than you."
"Anyway, I'll be done in a bit. You up for it?"
"I was gonna see if Rach was free for breakfast, but if not, sure."
Morgan nods. "Let me know."
Emily moves to the kitchenette to make her call. She pulls out her cell phone and dials her girlfriend's number.
"Hey, I got back earlier this morning. Are you free for breakfast together?" Emily asks after Rachel's greeting.
"Sure. Got a place in mind?" Rachel answers.
"How about we meet at mine and I'll make us something?"
"Does your fridge actually have food in it?"
"Ha ha," Emily says dryly. "Sounds like someone doesn't want an awesome breakfast."
"Of course I do."
"All right. I'm heading out now, so I'll meet you there."
"Sounds good. See you soon," Rachel says.
"Okay. Bye." Emily ends the call.
Emily heads back to her desk. She grabs her jacket from the back of her seat.
"Sorry, partner. Breakfast with the girlfriend."
Morgan looks up from his report. "No problem, Princess."
Emily pulls her bag up from the floor and across her body. "See ya slowpoke," Emily pats his shoulder before starting toward the bullpen doors.
"Yeah, yeah," he says. "Hey," he stops her.
Emily turns back to her partner.
"I'm glad you two are back together. That you're happy."
"Thanks, Morgan."
Emily is almost to the doors —
"Agent Prentiss. I'm glad I caught you," Strauss calls from the platform. "Can I see you in my office?"
Emily looks between the Section Chief and Morgan. She ends on Strauss.
"Of course," Emily answers.
"Good. It won't take long." Strauss walks to her office.
Emily looks to Derek as she passes their desks. He gives a shrug.
Rachel walks down the hall toward her girlfriend's apartment. She's a little late. Her talk with Ashley kind of sidetracked her, but she's here. She raises her hand to knock, but hits air as the door opens.
Her hand is frozen in mid-air for a moment as she looks at the green eyed woman on the other side of the door.
"Oh, hi. Can I help you?" The beautiful redhead asks. Rachel is stunned. "Are you okay?"
"No." Rachel turns to leave. Emily and Rachel spot each other.
"Hey, Rachel," Emily calls as she jogs down the hall. "I'm sorry you had to wait."
"Rachel?" The redhead in the doorway asks.
Emily notices Meghan.
"Meg? What are you doing here?"
"Doesn't matter. I was just leaving," Meghan says.
"No. I was," Rachel interjects and pushes past Emily.
Emily looks between Meghan and her girlfriend, who's walking away. "What are you doing here?" Emily whispers to Meg.
"Watering your stupid plants and making sure you can eat," she whispers back quickly. "Now stop talking to me and go after her."
"You're the one who told me to get the plants and I already had food," Emily retorts.
"Emily, shut up and go get her and explain."
"Right." Emily takes off down the hall to stop Rachel.
Meghan leaves the apartment and takes the stairs to avoid the couple.
"Rachel, wait," Emily calls after the writer. Rachel stops at the elevator and jabs the down button. "Rachel, please."
Emily stops when she is face to face with Rachel. Rachel bites her lower lip for a moment before her eyes narrow and she addresses the brunette.
"It's not what I'm thinking, right?" Rachel asks harshly.
"No."
"So, the woman you kissed while we were dating did not just come out of your apartment?"
"She did, but it's not like that."
Rachel scoffs. "What'd you do, forget to tell her you were inviting me over?"
Rachel is grateful that the elevator comes. She steps inside without a glance to Emily. Emily follows her.
Rachel sighs when she realizes she is in the elevator with Emily.
"You kissed her, Emily. I don't know if I can do this again."
"I know. But I have never lied to you, Rach, so will you let me explain?"
Rachel takes a breath and considers Emily. She's never lied to her. "Tell me."
"Meg was here watering my plants."
"What plants?" Rachel's now curious. She doesn't remember Emily having any plants and she knows she isn't lying.
Emily gives a light groan. "I was joking with Meg one day about getting a cat and she said I needed to test my ability to keep living things alive first and the next day she came over with some low maintenance plants. But apparently no cacti because that would be too easy." Emily rolls her eyes. "She didn't know I came back this morning so," Emily shrugs off the rest of her sentence.
The elevator stops at the lobby. The doors open.
"So, are we back on for breakfast?" Emily asks.
"Yes." Rachel presses Emily's floor number. "I'm sorry I freaked out."
"It's okay. I understand."
"It's not okay. You've given me no reason not to trust you."
"We're fine, Rach. Let's just have breakfast."
"What's on the menu?" Rachel asks.
"It's a surprise."
"Really? Since when is breakfast top secret?"
"Since just now."
"So this is punishment for jumping to conclusions?" Rachel challenges.
"Maybe."
The elevator opens on Emily floor.
"I finally finished that book you recommended," Emily says as she lets Rachel off the elevator first before following her to the apartment.
So that's the end of this one. Obviously it's after Aftermath and sometime after they get back together. Not sure what the next chapter will be yet (possibly them getting back together. You guys MAY have waited long enough. Or maybe something with Mama Prentiss), but I'll continue working on the Doyle part also.
Let me know what you think. Of Meghan, of Emily, of Rachel. Good, bad, indifferent. Love hearing what you have to say.
Thanks.
