This is getting closer to the end of this story. It's so strange. I personally like this one and am more proud of this one than Half and Whole, but that one seems to get more attention. The last two or three I forgot chapters of that one have been average at best, if I'm being honest.
Song of the Chapter: Playing Basketball by James Horner (no, there's no basketball in this)
I own nothing but the story.
Peter was overwhelmed at lunch. People kept on trying to sit with him, but he knew it was only because he knew the Avengers. Or, that's what they thought. Though, he did, but they didn't really know that. They were just assuming so because of his interaction with Hawkeye.
"Alright, if you're only sitting here because you want to be my friend due to who I know, then you can forget it."
That statement drove off about half of them, but the other half stayed. Peter sighed. He never liked being in the spotlight, and them trying to talk to him was giving him a headache. The only downside of the symbiote enhancing everything about him was that it enhanced his senses even further.
"Hey, Peter," said someone. He looked up and saw Wanda. He groaned. He supposed it was stupid of him to think that they would stop after Clint, but that didn't stop him from hoping. Quite a few people left when she came. If there was a least popular Avenger, it would be Wanda.
"What're you doing?" he said weakly. He was starting to experience a sensory overload. She frowned a little when she heard his voice, but smiled again. "What's wrong with wanting to see my favorite intern?"
"Please go away."
"Oh, Peter. Always the drama queen."
"Go. Away," he said, his voice becoming less weak and more dangerous. She was surprised at the tone, and said "Alright, alright."
Everyone who had seen what happened stared at him, which was quite a few people. It wasn't everyday you saw someone tell an Avenger to go away.
"Peter, are you okay?" MJ asked him.
He shook his head and picked at his food. "No."
"Peter, you just told an Avenger to go away," Eddie said. "Aren't you the least bit worried that something bad might happen to you?"
"Something bad's already happened to me," he said. "This field trip. The worst she can do to me is - "
"Pull your body apart limb by limb?" Eddie asked.
He smirked. "No, she'd never do something like that. She'll probably just dumb flour all over my bed or something like that."
Eddie stared at him. "You live with the Avengers?"
"What? No, I just have to stay overnight sometimes when working on a project," Peter said. The class may have found out he was close to the Avengers, but they were not finding out that he switched between staying at his apartment and the compound if he could help it.
"So you have your own room?" Eddie asked. Peter nodded nonchalantly. "That's awesome!"
"It sucks."
Eddie was surprised at that answer and seemed like he was about to say something, but Mr. Harrington clapped his hands and said "Alright! Everyone put away your lunch, it's time to continue the trip!"
Everyone threw away their trash and followed Mr. Harrington and Gwen into the elevator. They went up, and Peter's eyes widened when they saw how far up they were going. The door opened, and they saw Natasha waiting for them on a mat. Peter groaned. He was doing that a lot today.
"Hello, Midtown High," she said, a smile on her face. "You are here to learn self-defense."
Some of the class smiled at that. Some of the class looked like they wanted to die at that. Some looked like both. Peter was on the wanting to die side.
"Now, I'm going to show you the moves first, and for that, I'll need a volunteer."
Nobody volunteered, which was understandable. Nobody wanted to go up against the Black Widow. Sadly, it meant that his worst fear might come true.
"Peter, why don't you come up?"
Shit.
He shook his head. "No, I think I'm good right where I am."
Everyone stared at him, surprised that he just defied an Avenger.
Natasha smiled. "Come on, Дшееду Ызшвук (Little Spider), you'll be fine."
His eyes widened. "Вщуытэе гыу ерфе тфьу шт акщте ща умукнщту (Don't use that name in front of everyone!"
She looked at the class, who were surprised at the exchange. "Ш вщтэе ерштл ерун лтщц Кгыышфт (I don't think they know Russian)," she said.
He groaned and got up. "Tonight, you're going to notice your pillow feels different, and you'll wonder why it feels different, and you'll look inside and see that I filled it up with peanut butter."
The class stared at him. Flash started snickering as he saw Peter get ready to take on Natasha. Peter had no doubt he was hoping to see Peter get his ass kicked.
They begun, and the class watched as Peter threw a punch at her. She ducked and threw a kick at him, but he grabbed it and threw it with such force that she turned. Her side was facing him, and he punched her right in her ribcage.
"Ow!" she said with a grin as she crumpled to the ground. "There. Can I go now?"
"No, we didn't even do the actual moves."
Peter groaned. They demonstrated the moves, and the students tried it out for themselves. Nobody got it on the first try, but quite a few got it on the second try. Slowly but surely, people started to get it.
"Why'd you have to call me up to demonstrate?" Peter asked her, annoyed. She smiled. "Come on, is it really that big of a deal?"
"Ше шы црут ерун сщгдв аштв щге црщ Ш фь (It is when they could find out who I am)."
"Шэь ыгку ерфе нщгк ыускуе шы ыфау (I'm sure your secret's safe [or something along those lines, I don't really remember what I actually wrote, and Google Translate won't tell me. Google Docs just autocorrected the other translations to English except for this one])." She stepped in front of the class and clapped her hands. "Alright, sadly, your time with me has expired. Go into the next room."
They entered the next room and found Steve. "Hello, class," he said with a pleasant smile. "Please take out your gym clothes, change, and when you're ready, follow me outside." Peter pointed them to the dressing rooms and said that he needed to go to the restroom. He went into the restroom and the symbiote changed out of its form as dark colored clothes and into his gym uniform. At first, it was reluctant to change into any color, let alone the brightly colored gym uniform, but it eventually was able to do it easily.
He left the restroom and saw people give him weird looks, but they didn't say anything. They knew he was always uncomfortable changing in front of others. "Alright, are you ready?" he asked them. They nodded and he said "Alright, grab your waters, and let's go." Peter groaned. He just realized what Cap had in store for them. They went out back in a place a lot of people didn't know existed.
A running track. "We are going to run until there's only one person running," he said. Everyone stared at him. They were the techy kids. They weren't much for physical activities like running. Someone voiced his thoughts and Steve said "Well, then I guess it's better for you since the trip will be done sooner."
Nobody wanted the trip to end, so they agreed to run.
They all lined up at the starting line. Some gasped when they saw that Steve was joining them. "Alright, whoever out of us that is the last running can be called the most athletic kid in the school and receives bragging rights," said someone. Everyone agreed to that. Peter decided to stray behind towards the back of the line so that nobody would suspect him.
"Alright," Steve said, "3, 2, 1 … go!"
Everyone started running. A lot of them weren't going very fast. The fastest were Flash who was known for being fast (he had gotten the nickname for a reason), and MJ, who was faster than Peter had expected. He, Ned, and Eddie were in last, a gap quickly forming between them and the group.
"Eat my dust, Parker!" said Flash, overjoyed to be beating Peter. Peter suddenly threw his no suspicion plan out of the window as he grew angry for whatever reason and wanted to show the little punk in his place.
He started running at full speed, taking off like a bullet. All of the students pointed and stared as he quickly got in front of Flash. "Wha - bu - how?!" Flash sputtered.
"Eat my dust, Eugene!" Peter called back. When he caught up to the captain, Steve said "What did I tell you about bullying that kid?"
"Not to do it. And I'm not. It's just friendly competition."
Peter just then noticed people pointing and gasping at him going as fast as Captain America.
"Alright," Steve said, not noticing "but if you bully him, I'll make sure Bucky doesn't give you any of his baking for a week."
Peter put his hand to his chest. "You wouldn't dare!"
Steve laughed a little. "Yes, I would." He closed his eyes for a bit to enjoy the feeling of his surroundings and found Peter gone when they opened again. "What - ?"
"Keep up, old man!" Peter said, running at full speed. Steve smiled and started running as fast as he could. He wanted to beat Peter after running with him last time and losing.
Peter looked at the benches and saw a good amount of people sitting in them, Ned and Eddie included. MJ and Flash were still going strong, but everyone else was looking like they would stop any minute.
Peter noticed as he was looking back, he was slowing down, and Flash was catching up to him. Flash was smiling, thinking he would catch up to him. Peter looked at him and raised his eyebrows, going faster and getting the lead back.
The track was quickly getting emptier as people left. Soon, it was just just him, Steve, Flash, and MJ. MJ saw it was just them and seemed like she didn't really care. She went to the benches. Peter kept running around the track. He wasn't even really tired. It was really just between him and Flash now, and Flash looked like he was going to push his body to the breaking point just to beat Peter.
Peter ran some more, and decided to just wait at the line after he crossed it. Peter took a look at Flash and saw that he was slowly walking now. Peter took out his phone and started checking his notifications. Nothing of note. He checked out anything on Spider-Man and found the usual. He opened up Bubble Shooter and started playing that while he waited for Flash to come over.
Flash finally walked over, and crumbled to his knees, exhausted.
Peter tucked his phone in his pocket and said "Welp, I win."
He went over and grabbed his water bottle, taking a couple of sips. He looked around and noticed that everyone except MJ was staring at him. "How?!" asked someone. He shrugged. "I've started going on these runs and working out since I became an intern."
Everyone nodded. That did make some sort of sense.
"Come on," Steve said, looking at his watch. "It's almost time for you all to go, and you still have one more place to go."
They all nodded and went up to change out of their gym clothes. Once they did so, they met up with Gwen, who led them to the elevator. "Alright, everyone, we will now be meeting the man in charge. Tony Stark," she said, smiling.
"What?!" Peter said in surprise. Flash snickered. "What, Parker? You afraid for us to find out your internship is fake?"
"You still don't believe that? After all of the proof we've gotten on this trip?" MJ said.
"Well, he probably just paid them to act like that."
Gwen stared at Flash. "I can assure you that Peter is an intern here. One of the best we have."
The elevator dinged, and they reached the top floor. "FRIDAY," Peter whispered when everyone was out of the elevator. "initiate the Revenge In Case They Embarrass Peter protocol."
A red and blue light suddenly filled the elevator, showing that FRIDAY had heard him. He suddenly heard "Peter, where are you?"
He left the elevator and saw Mr. Stark there. "There you are. Peter, we need your biometrics to get into your lab."
"MY lab?" Peter said.
"Don't worry, I put away the fun stuff."
"Why not yours?"
"My lab has top top secret stuff."
Peter groaned. He let them in and the kids marveled at the lab. All that was in there was prototypes and finished products for the Avengers.
"Any second now," he muttered. "Hey, FRIDAY?" he said out loud. Everyone looked in his direction and FRIDAY showed a bar that displayed the progress, saying "97% complete."
"Peter?" Mr. Stark said nervously. "What is the Revenge In Case They Embarrass Peter protocol?"
Peter smirked. "Exactly what it says."
Suddenly, rattling noises were heard in a closet in the lab. "Everyone, duck," Peter said. All of the students ducked and the closet opened. Piece of metal flew out and attached themselves to Mr. Stark. It was an older suit, and not just any of the old suits. "Is this the rotten milk suit?! And why is it freezing cold?!" Mr. Stark said. Peter grinned and nodded. "With a new feature!"
Before Mr. Stark could ask what, Peter showed cameras of the inside on his displays. The other students watched as they saw whipped cream shoot from small holes on the inside. The display changed from it's cool, sleek, and blue style to a cute, round and pink style. The lights on the armor changed from blue to pink as well. Everyone stared at Peter, the kid who pranked Iron Man who was looking like he was trying very hard not to laugh.
"Peter, you're grounded," Mr. Stark said. "What's that?" Peter said, jumping onto his chair and pushing a few buttons. Webs shot from the ceiling, forming a net. Peter pushed another button. "Might wanna get out of the way," Peter told everyone, gesturing to a hole that had just opened up in the wall. A big, red, boxing glove shot out. Mr. Stark tried to shoot a repulsor blast at it, but only glitter came out. It punched him square in the chest, launching him into the web net.
Little machines jumped off of the tables and expanded into replicas of the Pit Droids from Star Wars. They each pulled out a can of spray paint from a drawer and started spraying the armor. When they were done, the armor was covered in multiple different colors, with the words Da Vinci of Our Time. They then pulled out the unsticking spray Peter had stored in a cabinet and sprayed at the webs. The armor fell to the floor with a loud thud and Mr. Stark said "Kid, this is gonna be hard to top," getting up slowly.
Peter burst out into laughter, clapping his hands. He took out his phone and snapped a picture. "That's going in the Discord server."
"Don't you dare."
"Sent."
All of the students stared at the two. "What the fuck just happened?" someone asked.
Mr. Stark sighed. "Peter here has a great gift for pranks. Almost as great a gift as he has for science."
Suddenly, the elevator door opened, and the rest of the Avengers rushed in. "Where is he?" Natasha said. She saw Mr. Stark and burst out laughing. As did the rest of the team.
"Oh, yeah, Peter," Sam said, he and Bucky, walking up to him. They pulled out spray bottles and sprayed it all over Peter. Peter coughed. "Is that AXE Body Spray?" They laughed and nodded. "You know I hate that stuff."
"That's why we did it."
"You two are assholes."
The class just stared. "Alright, now, you all can look around, but don't touch," Peter said.
"I don't want to," said someone. "Nothing more that we see can top that." Everyone else made noises of agreement.
"I also just need to get home," Eddie said. The Avengers stared at them, but nodded. "Um, yeah, that's fine."
"I'm just gonna stay," Peter said. Mr. Harrington nodded. "Okay, that's fine." Everyone left and said goodbye.
"Hey, when is this going to get off?" Mr. Stark asked. "It's not letting me take it off."
So, uh, wheeeeeeee.
