I grabbed the door handle and pulled it open.

The door opened to the old music room to show the group that had let me stay with them and reveal the new survivor I had found in my last trip to find more supplies; I had no clue what the group would say as soon as they noticed the new member of my party.

"DAD?!" Haruhi just about screamed as she ran towards the man that was still wearing a dirty purple skirt, now dirty pink turtleneck, and slippers, his hair was still in the braided bun I had put it in before we left, of course a few stubborn hairs got loose and splayed out on the sides of his head.

"HARUHI! OH, I CAN'T BELIEVE I FOUND YOU!" Ranka exclaimed loudly but within reason of the situation at hand. The two of them ran into each other's arms, a sobbing mess. I had shut the door and already put my bags down in their usual spot by my makeshift bed.

"I can't believe you found Ranka and he's ok." The raspy voiced twin said as he walked up to me.

"Yeah, I was a little startled to find him to be honest, I almost didn't get the chance to find him." I confessed to the red-haired boy.

"What do you mean by that?" Haruhi asked as she got closer to me, still close to her father, 'I doubt she'll let him go again any time soon.' I thought, thinking about my own family and what had happened to them.

"Well, I started heading back after I got some supplies, but I got stopped when I almost ran into a herd of walkers out there, I'm kind of surprised that they didn't get a glimpse of them at all. I almost thought for sure they would have come this way, anyway." I said realizing I was getting off topic, "I ran up to the second story of an apartment building and quickly climbed up to the roof. When I deemed it safe enough, I quickly ducked into one of the apartments and it just so happened to be his." I finished.

"Dad how did you survive all this time?" Haruhi was the one to ask the million-dollar question of the group.

"Well, Yuki I kind of lied to you when I said I didn't go out of my apartment," I had known that already but wasn't going to interrogate the man over just how he had lived so long, "I barely left my apartment when this disease or virus or whatever it is started spreading. I would leave at night and only go to the other apartments for a quick food run. I had just started to run low when I decided I would frighteningly have to leave the safety I had known and find a better source of food. I decided to start packing up some things I thought I would need, but I was almost certain if I left, I wouldn't survive long enough to make it here. I needed to know what happened to Haruhi though, so I started to pack up my stuff when I looked outside and found a herd coming through the neighborhood. I kept packing up when suddenly my bedroom door opened on its own, I thought for sure I was about to be a zombie's snack, instead of something rushing into my room, I see a small mirror come around the corner and Yuki call out that she's human. I never thought meeting this brave and amazing young lady would have allowed me to reunite with my daughter. Thank you Yuki I owe you for this." Ranka had tears in his eyes and was holding Haruhi close to him, clearly afraid if he let go something else would take her away from him.

"You're very welcome Ranka. You owe me nothing but this, love and cherish your daughter every single day, cause sadly in this world you never know just how long that time will actually be." I said as Ranka pulled me into a hug, crushing my spine once again. 'If only I could hug him one last time.'

Later that night we had made a dinner of mac and cheese and washed it down with some of the soda I had gotten a couple of days ago. It was a happy evening where Ranka and Haruhi were able to catch up on the time they missed with each other and for once since the outbreak started, I was able to forget that the world had gone to shit and either we're the only ones left in the world or we're just a small pocket of humanity that have been able to survive, and I had finally gotten to know their names, took me be surprise to learn that this wasn't a room that was used for music at all but a host club. 'Rich people were always so extra with their schools.' I thought to myself.

I had given Haruhi the picture I had taken and a couple of others I had grabbed as well, I didn't know how important they were to her, but I had assumed they were particularly important. She had been ecstatic to receive them, I didn't even realize one I had grabbed was her late mother.

"Yuki it's your turn to stand watch now." Kaoru informed me. 'Man, time really flies when you get stuck in your own thoughts.'

"Thank you, Kaoru." I stood up and walked over to the window still trying to shake the thoughts from my head, can't get sucked into your thoughts when you're on watch duty. The sky had darkened a few hours ago and now it was just the moon light illuminating the ground with its soft blue glow. I walked quietly over to the window that was overlooking the courtyard of the school. I was able to learn this was once Ouran Academy, as far as used to know this place was super elite. The Hitachiin, Haninozuka, Morinozuka, Ohtori, Hoshakuji, Kasugazaki, Suzushima, and of course the Suoh family had all sent children here over the years.

I had known a little bit of the school but since I was from an extremely poor family, I never had a hope of coming here, even if I did get well enough grades, I would have never been considered smart enough to go here. Now, however, there was no social classes, no wealth, no power, no man-made laws, nothing but a persons will to live and their struggles to make it in a world that only grew in hardships and miseries. There are those stories like Haruhi and her fathers where they end up reuniting and being able to protect and find a reason to continue with this horrible world.

I quickly pulled myself from my thoughts and continued to monitor the courtyard for any signs that any walkers had entered, thankfully there was nothing there but the usual random items that would get blown through the gate, like wrappers, light articles of clothing, and maybe the piece of paper that somehow managed to survive the rains. Nothing else was in the courtyard. The last couple of days that we've gotten heavy rain managed to wash away a decent portion of the blood that had stained the grounds. You could still see the outlines of the puddles that had pooled underneath people who became victims of the outbreak.

I pulled myself out of my thoughts again, looking back around the courtyard I didn't see anything off. The stars had started to vanish as the sun began to slowly rise signaling the start of the day. After about half an hour the rest of the group woke up and began moving around. Hikaru took my spot watching the window after about another hour. I left as he came up and went to find myself a granola bar or something for breakfast.

"Yuki we would like to start clearing the rest of the school if you're ready."
