Observing the school gates from a distance, Mr Mead was joined by his colleague and friend, Mr Clarkson. Mr Mead is dressed in a matching, slim fit grey suit, whilst Mr Clarkson wears a simple checkered shirt and tie, tucked into a basic pair of black trousers. They watched on as countless students brushed past them, heading into the main building of the school. It's a typical Monday morning for the pair, as they instruct the teens to 'tuck in your shirt' and 'take all that makeup off your face'. This routine is quite familiar, now that we are into the middle of Spring term - but today something is a little different.

"So, are you going to tell me?" Tom nudges his friend, as he continues to survey the playground.

"Tell you what?" Chris replies, looking at Tom, confused.

"Who put that sickening smile on your face this morning," Tom smiles. "Been out with that fancy woman of yours again?"

Chris laughs a little to himself, as he turns his attention back to the bustling groups of school kids.

"You know me, Tom," he grins. "I never kiss and tell."

Of course Tom already knows that's not true, if not just by the smug look now on Chris' face. But before he has the chance to probe the subject further, a fight breaks out across by the main gates.

Tearing off towards it, Chris was secretly happy to escape their conversation. Charging straight in, Chris stands in between the two fighting girls, outstretching his arms to keep a distance between them. A blonde girl stood one side, handbag draped over her arm, backed up by her group of friends. The other girl appears more conservatively dressed, her brown hair straightened - but more obvious right now, is her swollen lip. Still the girls holler abuse at one another, as the dark haired one - Kathie - begins to throw her fists again. Tom arrives shortly after, and holds back the blonde student from behind, pulling her out of harm's way. But this only causes an uproar from her group of friends.

"Mrs Fisher's office" Tom shouts over the students. "Now, Olivia! The rest of you get to class."

"Are you okay, Kathie?" Chris asks the girl.

"You're kidding me!" another girl shouts from the sidelines. "She was the one throwing the punches!"

"And she is also the one with blood on her face!" Chris shouts back. "Mr Clarkson has already told you, get to class Beth!" he turns his attention back to Kathie. "Come on, I will take you to the nurse."

"Just back off!" Kathie shouts, as she pushes herself away from Mr Mead.

"Kathie!" Tom shouts back.

He gets a grunt in return, as she spins on her heels and storms off into school. Tom tries to head after her, but Chris holds him back.

"Don't bother mate, give her a chance to cool off," he advises. "Once we have dealt with Olivia, I'll pull her out and take her to see Karen."

Tom just shakes his head in disbelief. "The day hasn't even started, and we're already one fight in!"

"Teenagers, eh?" Chris smiles.

They begin to stroll back to the main site, side by side. Chris is tugging at his suit a little, as Tom re-flattens his floppy brown hair, after them both getting messed up a little in the scuffle.

"So…" Tom asks, as they continue walking. "You were finally telling me about your mystery woman?"

"Nice try!" Chris laughs. "I'm still not saying a word!"

The pair of them begin nudging each other as Tom tries to tease it out of him. Acting like a couple of school kids themselves, their laughter can be heard from the corridors inside. However, always the professionals, they soon stop, as they walk through the main doors, and go their separate ways to start another crazy day at Waterloo Road.
