Away from school, outside of his house, Chris and Kate are finally spending some quality time together. They decided to spend the weekend away in Liverpool - they're not foolish enough to be out together in Manchester, where fellow students and colleagues could easily spot them. Having already been to the docks and the cathedral, they headed to the local Asda Supermarket before heading back to the hotel.
Little did either of them know, a familiar face was also in Liverpool at this time.
Tom strolls through the supermarket car park, watching on as his son, Josh, and his new boyfriend, Charlie, walk just a few steps ahead of him. As they approach the car, Josh signals for Tom to throw him the car keys.
"Nice try, son," Tom laughs, gripping the keys tight.
Charlie laughs, patting his partner on the shoulder, a little surprised he even attempted it.
Tom walks around to the drivers side of the car, as the two young lads stand waiting for him to unlock the car. But as Tom looks up briefly, he pauses.
Surely that's not…
But the couple in the distance draw a little closer and confirm his worst fear.
Oblivious to their audience, Chris and Kate stroll out of the supermarket, arm in arm, and head across the footpath that leads them back into town. They laugh together, and Chris kisses her on the top of her head, hugging her in close, as they walk. But within moments, they turn the corner and are out of sight.
"Dad?!" Josh calls over the car. "What are you looking at?"
Josh turns his head around to try and see what his dad is looking at. Charlie has a quick glance over too. But they don't see anything.
"Get in the car, boys," Tom mutters, his face as white as a sheet.
"What was it, Dad?" Josh asks, as Charlie climbs into the back seat.
"I said get in the car, Josh!" Tom snaps.
Confused, and a little taken aback, Josh clambers in next to Charlie, and places his seat belt around him. Tom scowls as he throws himself into the front seat, and starts the car. His mind a whirlwind of questions and anger, he isn't really sure what he needs to do now.
