Jean sighed as she piled the last of the day's paperwork into a large stack.

She rubbed her tired eyes and gave a large stretch, trying to unstiffen her muscles. They needed to get new chairs for the library, preferably very big, with comfy cushions that she can easily recline on. Maybe a cup holder.

It had been one of those days, where it was nonstop writing and not the tiniest break to get any sparring done. If Lisa hadn't come in to drag her to eat lunch with her earlier, the acting grandmaster was certain that she would feel starving right now. She thanked Barbatos that Lisa was here. She didn't know what she would do without the mage.

Speaking of Lisa…

Jean scanned the room until her eyes fell upon a familiar purple clad figure. Lisa was fast asleep, her head laid down on the desk where she was writing earlier. Shaking her head, Jean got up from her chair to wake the sleeping lightning user. Lisa was never in the best of moods when she woke up in an uncomfortable position.

"Lisa." Jean shook her shoulder. Once. Twice. "Lisa! Wake up"

The last time, she spoke a bit louder, poking her on the cheek.

"Mmmm, no I don't want to eat the slime, mmmmm, then eat it yourself, you big hmmmm…" Lisa mumbled in her sleep. It seemed that Jean would have to take more drastic measures then.

Drawing on the power of her vision, Jean summoned the power of anemo, and blew some of the papers off of Lisa's desk. As they flew around, some of them plastered themselves to Lisa, some others just smacking her in the face. Sensing an intrusion upon her work space, Lisa shot up at an alarming speed.

"No, Jean! Don't die from slime poisoning!" She cried. When she realised she was in the library, she blinked a few times, before turning her head and noticing who was standing before her.

Jean, although with great difficulty, managed to stifle her laughter upon seeing the black smudges upon Lisa's face. It seemed that she must have fallen asleep on whatever she had been previously writing. It became even harder to keep a straight face when the librarian's face went bright red with realisation and embarrassment. So, she raised an eyebrow with an unspoken question.

"Oh, um, Jean." Lisa greeted as she smoothened out her wrinkled clothing. "Did you need anything?"

Jean shook her head. "No, it was just getting late. I know you don't like staying overnight in the library if you can help it."

"Ah." Lisa's face, though not as bright as before, still held its blush. "Thank you, I know I can be quite… disagreeable after a night spent here."

That was an understatement. One time, Lisa had managed to make Amber grumpy, Kaeya listen to orders, and push Diluc to the verge of tears. All in one day. Jean has always wondered what it was Lisa did to achieve such impossible feats. The knights still whisper about it to this day.

Jean simply smiled and went back to her desk to collect her paperwork. Even on a normal day, she would have a tumultuous amount of work to do, but that load had grown in size ever since Stormterror had arrived. The great beast was causing more problems all over Mondstat than all the knights could handle. Thankfully, they had the adventurers guild to sort out some of the problems that they couldn't respond to. At this point, Jean believed that the only thing that could help them was a miracle.

"Say," Lisa's drowsy voice brought her out of her thoughts. "How about you and I go out to grab a drink tonight?"

"You know I cannot do that, Lisa."

"Oh, come on!" Lisa pouted. "It's only for tonight. You need to loosen up a little, even if it's just one drink."

Jean knew that she shouldn't. She needed to get as much rest as she should, and going out drinking is not going to help her reputation in any way. But, looking at Lisa's big, pleading eyes, well, how could she say no? It may do her some good to unwind over a good drink of Dandelion Wine.

Besides, it's just one drink. What harm could there be?

{~}

A lot. There could be a lot of harm done.

The duo had decided to go to Angel's Share, as usual, and take their normal seats by the bar. Diluc had been there, serving drinks and cleaning glasses. What caught her attention most was that he had tied his hair in a high ponytail, instead of its usual low one. She does not remember seeing him wear it like that since his falling out with Kaeya.

Despite leaving the knights, Diluc had still stayed on good terms with Jean. Whenever the two would see each other, they would always exchange kind greetings and, when they had the time, a chat about the general going ons of their lives and Mondstat.

The atmosphere of the tavern was nice and refreshing, especially after being cooped up in either her office or the library all day long. In fact, she had become so relaxed, that she didn't even notice when her first drink had been replaced by a second. Or a third.

Lisa had been talking nonstop, always getting like that after the slightest hint of alcohol hit her system. She spoke about anything and everything, from the newest flowers in Flora's shop or how frustrating it is that she can't find anything about Stormterror in any of her books. Jean would sometimes interject with a few words of her own, but she mostly just enjoyed listening to the mage prattle on.

Diluc had been watching the entire time, and had begun to get increasingly concerned when Lisa signaled for another two glasses without Jean even noticing. He knew that at a time like this, the acting grandmaster would certainly get an extra workload, but Jean was never one to drink too much. He knew from experience why it was such a bad idea. Yet, he also knew from experience why it was not a good idea to go against Lisa's wishes. A certain memory came to mind, giving him shivers.

When he came around and set the drinks in front of the two women, he leaned closer to Lisa.

"I believe that it would be best to take her home after this round." He murmured quietly to her. Indeed, the blonde knight looked completely out of it, slumped over the table with her eyes half closed. If one listened close enough, they could hear a few giggles and hiccups coming from the drunk woman.

Lisa gave a nod and thanked him, smiling fondly at Jean. it seemed that her plan had worked a little too well. Her plan had simply been to get Jean to relax, have a few drinks and share a laugh or two. Well, looking at her now, one could certainly see that she had had a good night.

Lisa couldn't remember the last time they had done something like this, laughing and smiling as they shared stories and ideas. She hoped that as soon as the whole Stormterror business was done, they could do some more things like this together.

Sighing, she drank the rest of her wine, got Jean to do so as well without (miraculously) choking herself on it in some way, and paying their bill.

To prevent her friend from losing any dignity, Lisa did her best to keep Jean upright, wrapping each other's arms around the others backs as close friends would do after a good night out. Hopefully no one would notice that the acting grandmaster was actually stone drunk, nor anyone make any assumptions about their dignity.

That was the last thing Lisa needed. Despite her feelings, she didn't know how Jean would respond to them, and she didn't want her to find out like, well, this.

No. Lisa could handle that problem another day. For now, she just had to worry about her friend getting home safely without any interruption.

Just as she was thinking those thoughts, Lisa felt something fall from the sky and fall on top of her head. She glanced up, seeing heavy rain clouds gathered above the city. Suddenly, more rain drops poured down, and Lisa soon found herself in the middle of a downpour.

It was also at this point that Jean had decided to regain full drunken consciousness. She vaguely remembered the events of the evening, from talking to Lisa, to suddenly slumping down on the table. She's pretty sure she passed out at one point, because all of a sudden, she found herself standing in the rain, body held close to Lisa's.

She felt her face flush, uncertain if it was from being so close to the other woman, or the sudden bout of dizziness that overtook her. She wondered if Diluc had changed anything in the recipe for his wine, as everything just wouldn't stop spinning and she was more than just lightheaded. She was fairly certain she had only had one glass…

As she looked around, she noticed that they were near a fountain and that Lisa was practically dragging her home at this point. She couldn't exactly tell which fountain they were near, as the world still kept spinning around her. She looked across at her friend, and felt her knees grow weak.

Lisa had always been beautiful to Jean, but here, dredging through the rain, Jean drunkenly thought that she wouldn't mind kissing the mage right now.

Lisa's long hair was loose and was covered in tiny droplets. They looked like diamonds to Jean, and she got the idea into her head to touch them. When she suddenly started to touch Lisa's drenched hair, the mage made something akin to a squawking noise, suddenly noticing that the other was more awake.

Lisa wasn't quite sure what Jean was trying to do, threading her fingers through her now tangled hair. The purple clad woman felt her face heat up as Jean pulled herself closer and leaned in. The two slowed to a stop, simply staring into each other's eyes as bright blushes appeared on their faces.

Jean then leaned in further too fast, sending Lisa falling backwards.

Into the fountain.

With a great splash, the two were sent tumbling into the water, Jean on top of Lisa. When Lisa recovered herself, she pulled herself up and knocked her head against the still very drunk Jean. The blonde did not seem to mind, however, and simply sat there, staring at Lisa.

"Wha- Jean, you, ah, we…" Lisa spluttered as she tried to find the words. She was glad there was no one around to see the pair of them at this point. At least, she thought no one could see them.

The fountain the two had found themselves in was one near the Knights of Favonious' headquarters, and there were three people enjoying the entire spectacle. Amber felt a blush fall across her own face, Kaeya just stood there with a knowing grin on his face and Klee sat there with a glass of orange juice, completely oblivious to what was going on below.

It was a good thing Lisa didn't notice them, or she might have completely lost all sanity at that point.

Gathering herself, the lightning user took a deep breath and released it, staring right into Jean's eyes. "Jean, darling, I'm very cold, you're extremely drunk and we are both soaking wet. How about we get out of this fountain, go inside and- mmph!"

The woman could not finish her sentence, as she suddenly found Jean's lips pressed up against her own.

'Oh my, so this is what a kiss with the person you love is like…' she thought to herself.

There was nothing romantic about it. It was sloppy and slightly of centre, mostly due to Lisa's shock of being caught off guard and the fact that Jean, well, Jean still wasn't thinking quite clearly. In fact it wouldn't be off the mark to say that she wasn't thinking at all.

But, as the moment drew on and the both of them slowly drew away, neither could bother thinking about it and its implications. They simply looked at each other, no words needed to be said, it was just right.

The moment was, unfortunately, broken, when Jean's eyes slowly rolled back and she passed out. In Lisa's arms. Snoring. Loudly.

Lisa was stunned speechless by the events that just occurred. She became overcome with a fit of giggles, that soon turned into full blown laugh as she truly realised what had just happened.

There was no confession, no shouting, no romance, nothing. Nothing was needed. It was just two idiots in the rain, a fountain and a silent kiss.
