Hi guys welcome to my first Fire Emblem (Three Houses) fanfiction. I hope you enjoy and review if you can. This fic takes place the night of the ball pre war part.

SOME WORDS DO ALLUDE TO SPOILERS FROM THE DLC, VERDENT WIND, AND CRIMSON FLOWER ROUTES. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I do NOT own Fire Emblem or it's characters.

On the night of the ball, the students were enjoying there time dancing, singing, and just enjoying each other's company. It was nice to take a break from all the training, and the missions outside of Garreg Mach.

However Byleth, the Officer's Academy's newest Professor, easily found himself busy by the constant conversation of students. Either simple small talk, more effective training that causes less pain to the body, he even got offers from some of the students to dance. Namely Dorothea, Anette, and even Claude joked around and offered. Which he politely declined, for he has his eye on someone else across the large room.

Her elegant dress, the crown she wears proudly, made Byleth feel he paled in comparison in clothing, wearing his student uniform the other students made for him because it felt more formal than his usual Mercenary outfit.

Her other features such as her beautiful green eyes, and matching hair. He couldn't put his finger on it, but something about the Archbishop made him feel a certain way. Whenever he was around her he feel this strange sensation in his chest, and he was always happy to help her if she needed, hell he felt that way just talking to her.

She held the former Mercenary in high regards even though they officially met just months ago, even compared to Seteth, who she had known for years it would seem. Of course she maybe over exaggerating, but Byleth didn't deny that he put in work where it needed.

Byleth put his drink down and started walking towards Rhea who was by coincidence talking to Seteth. "Lady Rhea it's completely understandable that you begin to feel that way, however I do suggest that you-"

"Ahem" Byleth cleared his throat to gain their attention. "Professor, nice of you to join us." she said in the caring voice she was almost known for. "Seteth we shall continue this conversation at a later date." This put him a little off.

"R-right I shall continue to enjoy this event myself then." With that Seteth went off and offered Flayn to dance so none of the boys had the chance. This did embarrass her but he didn't care.

"Right as you were saying Professor?" The question brought Byleth's full attention to her. He held out his hand and asked the question. "Lady Rhea. Would you mind if I take this dance?" he asked in what others heard was emotionless speech. But Rhea knew better, even if it was from awful reasons. She felt in his words, some great faint hint of nervousness, one that others wouldn't have picked up on.

However his face betrayed his demeanor. His calm, but eager smile said all that was needed. She gave her heart warming smile and took his hand in hers.

"I happily accept Byleth." The Archbishop and former Mercenary walked to the center of the ball room, hand-in-hand. This did give them an unnecessary amount of attention.

As they took center stage, Byleth placed his left arm on her waist while the hand he offered her was still in Rhea's left. While he did this she placed her right hand on his shoulder.

Staring into each other's eyes they started dancing and they let their legs carry them on their own, as if they already knew what to do.

"Hey Dimitri, El, look who's making off with the Archbishop." Claude whispered his joke to the other two lords. "Oh I didn't find the Professor to be the one to dance." Dimitri said in surprise. While Edelgard was staring intently. 'Professor why do you have to make things harder than they have to be?' she thought. "Hey El you aren't jealous are you?" Claude said jokingly.

"Wh-what? Of course not." she quickly denied while blushing. This made Dimitri and Claude laugh a little at the Hresvalg girl's embarrassment.

Meanwhile on the other side more students started joking around and talking about how brave Byleth was dancing with someone as high authority such as Rhea.

"I'll admit I'm a little jealous that the teacher got someone as beautiful as the Archbishop. Especially in that hip-" Sylvain couldn't even finish his sentence because he was awarded a swift elbow to the ribs by Ingrid. "Ow! What was that for?" he said trying to be quiet. "You know why." she retaliated.

All the while Rhea and Byleth were enjoying the time they had right here and now. The elegant motions carrying them for what feels like the rest of their lives.

"Are you liking this dance, Lady Rhea?" she giggled a little at the question like he was joking like everyone else around them. "Yes I am very much. Byleth?" There was a pause between her answer and his name. "Yes Lady Rhea?" she giggled again. "It's fine if you call me just Rhea tonight." His smile grew a little more. "Yes, Rhea?" Her green eyes were focused on his slight dull blue ones. "How lovely would it be for this moment to last forever?" she asked.

This question felt hard in his head. But in his...heart he knew the answer was obvious. His eyes became more lively and vibrant. "It would be the best moment of my life." he answered confidently. Rhea's jaw dropped a little not expecting such a bold yet sincere response.

"Because then I could do this forever." Byleth closed his eyes and leaned forward. Then placed his lips onto Rhea's with great passion leaving her eyes widened. But not just her, the whole ballroom has their eyes on them.

After what felt like an eternity Rhea closed her eyes and returned the kiss with and equal amount of affection. His taste was something completely new to her. It was unique, but very much welcomed.

She really wished this moment would last forever. But they had to break the kiss to breath eventually. When they did Byleth made a slight gasp for air. He wanted to go again, but decided against it because of all the staring.

Now he understood what that warm sensation was in his chest, or more precisely his heart. A new emotion to him had just made itself more obvious than ever. Love, at that moment he knew he loved Rhea as much as his father, Jeralt, loved Sitri, his mother.

"Rhea, I love you. I want to be by your side, forever." His words, sincere and not nonsensical, straight from his heart and are now known. Rhea placed the hand that was on his shoulder now to his cheek. Tears coming from her eyes while she smiled. This one was different than the other ones. It looked as if Rhea was purely happy at his revelation.

"Byleth, I love you too. I want you to stay with me." Rhea wanted to say much more than that. To truly pour out her emotions right there so that he could hear her. However she wanted to save herself from the embarrassment in front of the students.

Then Byleth heard someone yell from the crowd, judging from the voice he knew automatically who it was. "Yeah!! Go Teach!!" That sparked the whole ballroom to cheer and congratulate them.

Byleth, now understanding what it felt to love like his father and students, felt complete. He had what he wanted right in front of him. The woman he would one day marry and commit his whole life to.

Rhea, now opening her eyes to the former Mercenary and seeing that she won't be seeing her mother ever again, but she was okay with that. For instead of having her familial love return, she felt this romantic love was much stronger than that. Byleth was Byleth, not Sothis nor Jeralt, but his own person. A person she loved.

"Thank you, Byleth." she said quietly in his ear. He responded with his best smile yet. Than placed his hand in her cheek and gave her one more kiss. The second of only many more to come in the future of their lives.

Well that's my first Fire Emblem Three Houses fanfiction how was it? I really hoped you enjoyed it.

I did very much like the ballroom scene and wished that there was a mini game to choose who you wanted to dance with.

So this was like my own little spin on that scene.

Thank you very much for reading this far and I'll see you in the next fic if I decide to write another one.
