Three.
There was commotion. It sounded like shouting from all corners of the room. Where was she? She tried to open her eyes but her lids felt so heavy. Everything felt heavy. She let out a whimper shocking herself at the noice. It didn't hurt as much. Surely overnight she couldn't have felt this much better? Suddenly everything stopped. It was silent, sickeningly silent. What happened? Where did the sound go? There was shouting! She definitely heard voices, she was sure of it! Had she gone insane? She could see the redness of her eyelids and knew there was light. No more darkness. Slowly she tried to open them again. Flickering open, there was faces all around her. A woman, she remembered as Blue but she looked different today, almost stressed. Her hair was pulled back into a high bun, just her fringe out over her forehead but she could tell it had been pushed around a lot. She was wearing a dark vest under a white dress coat - smart as Emma remembered the day she met her. Looking to the next person she saw Graham, he had his hair slicked back, but he wasn't suited up as he was before, just a T-shirt and black jeans today. And then there was him.
As soon as their eyes locked everyone's attention was entirely focused of them. Suddenly she felt like she could barely breath. Is this what it feels like, she thought, feeling your mate so close. It was indescribable. She was terrified but at the same she just loved to see him, speak to him, touch him. The wolf insider her had been so timid and quiet for so long, but now she was alive and ready for anything.
Keep a distance, Emma thought.
No, come closer, her wolf thought.
Killian reached out to her. She wanted to pull away but her wolf held her still. She wanted his touch, but she didn't. She didn't want to be touched ever again, she could still feel- she felt nauseous. She didn't want to remember but it was stuck in her memories forever. He must have noticed her fear and set his hand down by her side.
"Emma, we need to know if you remember anything. What happened the night you were attacked. Where you were, if you were with anyone, did you see anyone? Notice anyone following you? Do you have anyone who would want to do this to you?" Graham asked, god she didn't want to think about it, but it's always there! It's always going to be there! She closed her eyes and the night was playing out in front of her again. She remembered Neal taking her to that apartment. She remembered Jekyll and his unwanted touch, she remembered struggling out of his grip, his wicked smile as be pressed his face into her hair, trying to kiss her neck. She remembered his hands touching her legs, getting higher and higher. She remembered red. Lots of red. And then running. It's as if she could smell the downpour of rain again. Her pretty white dress with blue flowers. But as she thought back to it, she remembered her dress being red too and the smell of the rain turned to the sickly smell of blood. Her stomach twisted into knots. Why was there blood? Maybe from when she'd been hit by both monsters? Surely there couldn't have been that much blood just off her own injuries. She thought back but the last she could remember what Neal dragging her out from behind the dumpster, slinging her to the concrete, kicking and punching as hard as he could.
Emma realised her eyes weren't closed anymore and was staring down at her hands as if they were once again covered in that red liquid. Even the wolf inside her felt panicked. What had happened in that black spot? What had she done?
"Emma, Emma honey calm down you're alright!" Blue promised her, gently touching her shoulders to bring Emma's attention to her. "Boss I think it might be best for her if we drop the subject for now. We can try find out later."
Emma's eyes flicked to Killians, who's were already locked on hers. He lightly took a hold of her hand and brought it up to his lips. She could feel him take a deep breath and let out a sigh just over her fingers, he lay a gentle kiss over her knuckles before setting it back down on her lap. He didn't let go though. His hand stayed locked round hers and damn her little wolf was loving it.
Stop it! Emma shouted in her mind, you've known him for like two minutes!
She didn't care though, she was alive. She was warm. She was happy. She'd never felt her inner wolf like that before.
"I don't remember anything but pain. Lots and lots of pain." Emma half lied. She did remember pain, and lots of it, but she didn't want anyone going after her pack. She wasn't quite sure why she didn't want to mention Dr Jekyll, maybe she was embarrassed? Even his name made her feel like throwing up. She looked back at the group and jumped from the look on their faces. They were all stunned, eyes wide and jaws dropped.
"Honey! You spoke!" Blue squeaked with joy. Her hand went to her throat instantly, there were no more bandages. Why were there no bandages? She swallowed hard, there was very little pain. She must have looked puzzled as Blue spoke again. "Hun, you've been in a coma for the last 12 days."
Emma was shuck. A coma. She thought people in comas could still hear everything around them. Like they're awake but not awake. She felt like she'd just slept through the night. No wonder she felt so much better.
"How long have I been here?" Emma asked.
"It's been 17 days since the sisters found you." Killian answered instantly, as if he'd been counting every day since she'd got there. "I need a moment alone with Emma."
It wasn't a plea, it was a command, and that scared her. Graham, Blue and Ruby left instantly, leaving her alone with Him. There was a darkness in his eyes, like a thunder storm. His face was so close to hers she felt like she could barely breath, but he showed no expression. There was something about him that terrified her. His aura, his eyes, his blank expression?
Was it her wolf that found him so handsome? No, he definitely looked like he was carved in marble. A chiselled face, strong jawline, 5 o'clock shadow and thin lips. She couldn't take her eyes off of him. That storm was drawing her further and further out into the sea that was him. Without warning, he lifted his hand to come and gently caress her cheek, his fingers felt warm and pleasant against her skin. It felt so right. She could feel her wolf relax, feeling safe and content under his touch.
"How are you feeling, Emma?" He spoke in his low, deep voice. Emma just nodded, unsure of what to say to him. She felt so intimidated, but her eyes never left his as if she was engraving all of his features into her mind. Her name sounded so beautiful when he said it. She felt shy and helpless, such a turmoil of emotions. She thanked moon goddess she was still in bed, she doubted she'd be able to face him on her two feet right now.
"I know you don't want to talk about yourself so I thought maybe I could talk to you? My name is Killian, Killian Black." Her eyes widened. That's how she recognised Graham. He was at her clans home. He was the mysterious guest they had over before! Oh Moon goddess, she knew she was right about where he was from. The Black Moon clan. Three brothers ran that clan, but the oldest was the alpha, which means... Killian was the alpha of the most powerful and most feared clan in Storybrooke. How was she sitting in front of him like this. Yes, she was absolutely terrified, one wrong word and he could have her life took away if he wanted to. But something in her told her he would never do that. Was it her wolf? Did she trust him? Did Emma trust him... could she?
"I know. My clan is known to be evil, vicious monsters. Maybe some of them are, but only when they are told to be. I keep them in line, don't worry." He smiled. That was the first time Emma saw him smile. And it was beautiful.
Kiss his damn face, her wolf was howling.
Shut the fuck up! She shouted back.
"I don't know if you feel it too, but I've been looking for you for a long time. You Emma, are my fated mate. I know of it. And I will look after you til death takes me. And even then, I will be sure that my brothers keep you safe after I'm gone. I promise you this." His words brought tears to her eyes. No one, no one ever had said such sweet things to her. Well, Neal said some nice things before when they first met, but they were all lies... What if Killian was lying? But why would he? She had nothing for him. She was nothing but a broken girl using his money to sit on a hospital bed crying. Again. Why couldn't she stop bloody crying? Surely her body did not have this much water inside of it!
"Oh damn, oh moon goddess Emma I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset you, please! Don't cry! I'll leave, I understand you don't want to be the mate of a murderer." Killian's head hung low. He sounded so ashamed of himself. Surely an alpha would be proud of even the bad things he'd had to have done to get where he was, especially an alpha as high as Killian Black. He raised from her bed and went to leave but not only her wolf but also Emma too wanted him- no, needed him to stay. She reached for his hand, using her other to wipe away the unwanted shed tears from her cheeks. His face turned back to hers and something clicked. It was as if he really thought she was going to reject him, but suddenly he knew after her touch on his hand she wanted him too. Fated mates. It was rare wolfs found that. Some would find a mate they were happy with and settle down, be happy together, get married and well, mate. But finding your fated mate was something else entirely. Well that is what she'd heard anyway. There was a different feeling, so much more powerful.
"Stay, please." She whispered, his smile was back and she could even feel her wolf smiling back at him. She tried to imagine what Killian's wolf would look like, no doubt black. And huge. And scary. Their time together was interrupted by a knock on the door, Blues head popped in quickly after.
"Boss, I think we may have a problem." She lifted a piece of paper up ever so slightly indicating for him to come look. Killian left her side quickly to see what Blue wanted to show him. His smile was gone and anger spread over his face. Oh, moon goddess what was it? Had they found where she was really from? Had they realised she lied? Was he angry with her?
They began to whisper to each other but Emma could still hear some of their conversation.
"-for an Emma. Emma Swan."
"-take her there immediately."
Blue left the room leaving the door crack open slightly and Killian was back at her side, lifting her from her bed like she couldn't walk herself. She knew her legs moved fine, maybe she wouldn't be very quick as of yet but they definitely worked. Where was he taking her? Looking around she saw Ruby walking by Killian's side, standing high guarding from any sort of threat that could be around. They left the room and followed Graham who was leading them down the hallway. Every nurse, doctor and patient moved aside without warning as they quickly marched down towards the elevator. She remembered the last time she was in one of them. Neal was about to sell her off to get himself out of his own damn trouble. Her grip tightened round Killian's shoulders without realising, but his reaction was to hold her closer to him. He didn't know what she was thinking about, he just knew she was scared and that was enough to make Emma feel safe again. Maybe Killian would be her saviour? She'd never have to worry again. No more pain. No more beatings.
When they exited the elevator Graham headed for a very glamorous looking Audi, hopping in the drivers side ready to set off as soon as they were all ready. Blue opened the door of a large black SUV for Killian letting him jump in with Emma still in his arms, now sitting on his lap. Blue then opened the passenger door allowing Ruby to jump on the seat before getting in the drivers side herself and setting off. It was dark, and with the blacked out windows of the Rolls Royce it seemed even darker.
"I can sit over there?" Emma said, pointing at the empty space next to him in the back area of the car. He shuck his head and pulled her in closer to him and whispered an almost silent "no" into her hair as he tucked her head under his chin. Since he insisted, Emma made herself a little more comfortable, wiggling slightly and pulling herself in closer for warmth. With a yawn she felt her eyes drooping again. She knew it wouldn't be long before she would fall asleep. She closed her eyes and focused on soothing feeling of Killian's fingers running through her long blonde hair.
Emma woke up slowly to the feeling of sunshine on her skin. It felt amazing. Opening her eyes she realised she was not in the car anymore and sat up to analyse the room she was now in. It was a bedroom, and it was huge. Even the living room in her clans home was no where near the size. She was lying in a ridiculously large canopy bed, sheets and pillows of gold, grey, white spread around her. If it were any more feminine she would've thought she'd woke up in a fairy tale! Two large windows illuminated the room, sunlight flowing through shining directly onto her. Sitting up higher she could see nearly the whole city from the comfort of her bed. She worked herself out of the sheets and walked over to the window, realising she was in one of the biggest skyscrapers buildings in Storybrooke. They were high end, expensive and only the best of the best lived in them. So why was she in one of them? This is insane, she thought, stepping back and turning around to the room again. She noticed a long silk kimono hanging over the bed and slipped it on over herself for coverage. Turning, she saw all sorts of things she'd always dreamed of owning herself. There was a large dressing table left to the windows, and a huge matching wardrobe beside it. Turning again her jaw dropped. Two gigantic bookshelves that were full of hundreds of books. She instantly noticed a couple she'd always wanted to read. Emma walked towards the wardrobe and curiously opened it, shocked to find it filled with all sorts of clothing. From jeans to gorgeous frocks. Who's room was she in? She went to the what looked like bedroom door confused as to where she was and went to exit before tripping over a huge lump. With a squeal she tumbled over, catching herself before hitting the floor. She turned to see Ruby lying right outside the doorway, ears flat and whimpering apologetically. Emma just laughed and stood herself back up. She was completely fine, just a little startled.
"Emma! Oh moon goddess, are you alright?" Blue came running into the hallway from another room panicked, but settled when she saw Emma laughing. She let out of sigh and pointed at Ruby. "What have I told you about lying in stupid places!"
The two stared at each other for a couple seconds, confusing Emma before she remembered. Most wolf siblings were born with telepathy to each other, making them be able to speak to each other in wolf form or human. In this case while Blue was human and Ruby was a Wolf. Emma got a sudden smell of burning and her smile dropped.
"Um, Blue? What's burning?" She questioned. With that said Blue shot off like a bullet back into the room she'd came from. Emma and Ruby shared a look before she got hold of the corner of Emma's kimono and pulled her to follow Blue cautiously. Turned out it was a large modernised kitchen, and Blue was burning some sort of meat in a frying pan by the smell of it. Ruby sniffed the air, clearly able to smell the meat too.
"Oh I was trying to cook us some breakfast but I am no good at this stuff!" She whined, devastated by her failed attempt of being a chef for the morning. Emma walked around the island to where Blue stood, looking down at the burning sausages in the pan and giggled. Turning off the heat she looked around.
"It's okay. Here I can do it. Am I alright to borrow some things?" She turned to the double door fridge and pointed.
"Go ahead! Take whatever you like honey."
Emma took out some things that she could find out the fridge and cupboards before placing them back on the counter of the island that stood in the centre of the kitchen. She started cracking eggs into a bowl and adding milk before whisking them together. She thought she'd make some ham and cheese omelettes for them all.
"Ruby, if you start to drool I swear I'm not cleaning it up." Blue scolded her, Ruby just licked her lips and continued to watch Emma flinging eggs, milk, cheese, ham, mushrooms into a heated frying pan. Once she'd made two, she set one aside for herself and gave one to Blue. Using the parts of sausage she could save to add some extra meaty flavour into the breakfast she was making for Ruby, due to the starving look on her face sitting patiently waiting for Emma to finish cooking. Finishing up Emma put Rubys in a large bowl before placing it on the floor for her.
"Is Ruby always in her wolf form?" Emma asked, she'd been wondering for a while why she'd never saw Ruby in her human body. She wondered what Ruby looked like? Most werewolves carried features of their human selves to their wolf form, like their hair colour and their height. Emma wouldn't know what her wolf looked like, she'd never shifted before. Another reason why she was pushed out of her clan, all the wolves together in the woods running, hunting, playing, while she stayed in the basement. She wished she could feel the freeness of it. She'd heard many members of her pack talk about shifting before. How it hurt the first time but you get use to it. How it makes them feel so alive. The feeling of wind blowing through their fur. How their senses were almost ten times better than their humans. The feeling of the water at the river pushing against their body as they played in it during the summer, a normal human would probably have been washed away by its pressure, but wolves were much stronger. She wished she was stronger. Braver. Prettier. Emma's wolf was probably as broken as her, ugly and scarred. Scared to do anything, say anything, go anywhere.
I'm not scared anymore, I'll never be scared again. Her wolf whispered to her, warming her soul knowing at least a part of her felt that way. But Emma knew she would always be scared. She'd had so much trauma in her few years on earth, so much more than someone her age should have had to go through.
"Mostly. Ruby likes it better as a wolf. She says it's easier, less drama, less thinking." Blue said, Ruby talking through her. It was crazy that only Blue could hear what Ruby was saying, apart from other werewolves. She wondered if she'd ever change at all. She wanted that, no drama, no thoughts.
"I mean I guess it's true, you do feel more free as a wolf. I like shift and go out for a good run through the woods sometimes, but I have a lot of work to do as a human so I stick to this form mostly."
"Wouldn't know," Emma said down to her plate, eating another fork full of egg.
"What? You mean you-"
"Never shifted? Yep."
"WHAT?! How? Why? You're definitely a wolf aren't you? What am I saying I know you are, I can feel your wolfs presence! I don't understand... when did you first feel her?" Blue cried out, hands whaling all over in the air, over her face, through her hair. She seemed truly stunned. Was it so weird for a werewolf to not have shifted yet?
"Um, I think I was about 7? Maybe 8. But no I never shifted. I knew she was there but she never came out." Emma told her. Her wolf was probably just as scared as her. Living the life she did she wouldn't want to come out either if she had a choice.
"Wow. I mean, most werewolf's feel their wolf come alive around that age but they shift very soon after, between 10 and 15 years old. I wonder what's stopping you. Would she have any reason to not want to faze?"
"Years worth of trauma," Emma scoffed, but then she realised what she said. Why the hell did she just say that. Her eyes widened and she stopped chewing, noticing Blue and Ruby both done the same. She put her head down in shame, not at the topic but at herself. Why the hell would she say that. She knows she can't tell anyone where she came from, she was living with the Black Moon clan now, they'd slaughter her clan if they found out what they did to her. When she looked up Blue didn't look so surprised, almost as if she knew something already. She reached over and put her hand over Emma's.
"Emma, I know some bad things have happened to you, don't feel like you can't tell me. You can tell me anything I'm here for you." Emma was puzzled, what did she mean she knew bad things happened to her? Did she mean the beating she was saved from?
"I have seen your body Emma, I was the one who changed you into the hospital gown. You were covered head to two in bruising. Old and new. The scar on your face," Emma touched her eye, pulling her hair back down to cover it. "That's not a claw mark. It's to thin and straight to be, which means something or someone cut you. You had fractures and even some broken bones, honey please tell me who was doing that to you."
She didn't know what to say. She never thought about what they could've found at the hospital. She never thought about xrays and the fact she had been changed from her bloody dress, anyone could see the black, blue and green splotches all over her. But her scar, she was always so embarrassed of it. It was a reminder of how disgusting she actually was. Even before the clan she was hated. Her own father couldn't stand the sight of her, but she never wished death on him.
"I guess it probably started when I was born. My father never loved me, said my mother slept with another man and created a disgrace? Or something along that line... one day he get really drunk, and I mean really drunk. He came in cursing and slurring, calling my mother a slut and telling me I should've been aborted. My mother started arguing with him then the next thing I know he's in my room, knife in hand. He ran after me, he was just slashing about wildly. That's when he cut me. I remember my mother screaming. And I remember being absolute covered in blood. I was only a child, about 7. And I think that was the moment my wolf came out. I was furious, I could feel this power inside of me although I was just a tiny kid at the time. I remember how immense I felt. I couldn't open one eye but I still saw my parents. My father was holding my mother back, she was going crazy for what he'd done to me, her only little girl. I must have blacked out because the next thing I remember is waking up in a hospital. My eye was patched over and the cut stitched up. There was a policeman and our alpha at the time sitting next to me. That's when I found out all my family were dead."
Emma's eyes were glazed over, she felt like she hasn't blinked for hours. Staring into space she remembered every little detail, scene by scene playing out again in her head. That's where it all began. A drunk of a father, a loving mother. A baby brother. And all in one day, they were gone. For good. She never saw them again, never got to say 'I love you', never got to say goodbye. Everything she'd ever loved or owned was destroyed. After that she was placed with another family from her original pack, she grew up with another girl, but she was older by 3 years. She didn't like what Emma liked, and her wolf was out every day. She'd watch all the other kids in her pack turn, cubs playing on the field, rolling around in the grass. She stayed with the elders most the time, those who couldn't turn anymore. They'd tell her stories of their past, silly things they'd do for fun when they were her age. She loved the elders, but all she wanted was to feel what they felt. To faze and run through the long grass off into the sunset.
"Oh Moon Goddess... Emma, I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry. You didn't have to tell me that if you didn't want to, but I'm glad you felt you could confide in me like this. I promise you Emma, we won't let anyone hurt you. You are part of our family now." Blue rose from her seat and came round the her, wrapping her arms round Emma pulling her into a tight hug. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been hugged when she felt sad. She felt like one of the many rocks had been lifted off her chest. She'd never told her childhood story to anyone other than Neal, although he didn't care much.
"Um, if you don't mind me asking, what happened to them? Your family?" Emma realised she'd never actually told them how they died. And there was a reason for it too. Her nostrils started burning, just as they did every time she thought of the first time she went back to her family home.
"The police told me it was an accidental fire, but I don't think that's what happened." She felt hot. As if she was burning, as if she was in the house right now as it was engulfed in flames. "Blue I need to go outside. Like right now."
She could feel her hands beginning to shake. She needed air. She needed to smell anything other than flames and ash and the god awful scent of burning flesh. She felt sick. Tears sprung to her eyes and Blue took her by the hand, Ruby following quickly behind them. She couldn't even breath anymore, she was hyperventilating as Blue pulled her out the door and up a flight of starts. She almost tripped up a step as her eyes began closing from the sting of her tears. She wished her mother was there to hold her, tell her she's alright, that everything would be fine. But she wasn't there, and she never would be. Emma opened her eyes again to see she was standing on the roof top, and it was beautiful. So beautiful her mind stopped spinning for a second. There was potted plants everywhere and a small fountain in the centre, benches all round the edges. She took a long deep breath, held it in, counted to 5 and slowly released. Fresh air. It felt like so long since she'd smelt the sweetness of flowers. She just stood in awe, it was truly radiant. Who ever made the roof top garden had a fantastic eye for design.
"Take your time Emma, we'll give you some space." Blue waves Ruby to follow her, leading her over to a far corner bench. She notice Blue was on her typing on her phone and wondered what she was doing. Was she speaking to someone? Killian? Her wolf perked up of the thought of his name. His image now in her brain, she felt like she needed him. Needed HIS comfort, no one else's. She sat herself down on a close by bench and looked through the glass railing down at the city below them. It looked so small from the tower. People on the street looked like little ants.
Blue pulled her from her thoughts as she tapped her shoulder gently, holding her phone out to her.
"You have a phone call." She said with a smile, passing it to her before walking back to her bench where Ruby lay.
"Hello?" Emma asked into the speaker.
"Emma, are you alright?" It was Killian, her heart skipped a beat. "Blue said you got yourself upset and she was worried about you. What's the matter?"
She felt bad for Blue, she didn't need to tell her all of that. She knew Blue said she wanted to know but in reality it is a lot for someone to hear. She logged that she definitely needed to thank Blue and Ruby for their understanding.
"Yes, just a little freak out. I'm fine, honestly..." She lies, that memory haunted her sleep at night and always would. "Anyway, when can I see you?"
There was a few seconds of silence before he answered, "Soon, I'm really busy at work right now, but soon."
She knew he was a busy man. She could tell just by looking at him the day they met. She'd learnt that he was actually the CEO of a company called BLK, one that their father had created and left to them after his passing. Killian's brothers ran it with him but he was the leading man behind the business. She could imagine the hard would that must have to go behind running such a large company. She knew herself that BLK owned most of the city of Storybrooke. Such as the hospital she was in before, 2 shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, other businesses. She could definitely understand why he was always working, making sure everything was on top of.
"Id really like to see you soon." She told him, smiling to herself. She heard him chuckle on the other end of the line and repeat the same again- "soon". After saying their goodbyes Emma felt so much better. She was astonished at how at ease Killian made her feel. Instantly she wanted to talk to him again, see him, touch him, hold him. She felt silly thinking such things. It was probably her wolf putting a lot of those emotions in her but she just couldn't help it. She had some sort of a special link with him. The moment their eyes met she melted into them and she didn't want to ever look anywhere else.
She went to sit with Blue and Ruby over the other side of the garden, giving Blue back her mobile. They spoke about the flowers, the city, the Black Moon Clan. They must have sat up there for hours as the late nights of November started to kick in, the sky darkening around them and a cold chill in the air. Deciding to head back down to the apartment, Blue told her there were some other facilities Emma might also enjoy in the building. They took a decoy and Blue took her into another room one floor down from the garden. She walked into a giant gym, there was all sorts around. In front of a full wall of ceiling to floor windows were a row of tread mills, next to them the cycling bikes and step machines. On the other side of the room there was all sorts of different weights, some men who must've also lived in the building were working out, bench pressing what looked like a seriously heavy amount of weight. Turning to the last corner of the room stood a small boxing ring, by the side of it were punch bags and a stand full of different protective wear. Emma knew she needed to get stronger and maybe this was the perfect place for it.
"I thought you'd maybe like to come training with me? I'm here every morning, doing bits of everything. I can show you how to use the machines, teach you how to box, spot for you when you're lifting weights that's way to heavy." The last part she laughed running over to the two guys using the bench press, one of them had attempted to lift a weight even bigger than the last one she saw them with, but couldn't lift it off his chest. Although his friend was also trying to lift it back up with him they were both struggling, but as soon as Blue helped it was up and back on the rack in seconds. Emma thought to herself, Blue must be a LOT stronger than she looks. For a woman with such a slim feminine looking body she must have some serious hidden muscle in there.
"I'd like that, I think it's about time I learned how to protect myself!" They laughed and Blue began showing how round the gym, explaining how things worked, what the benefit of each machine would have on her body, how to not hurt herself.
For the next few days that was their routine. Wake up, Emma would cook breakfast, they'd go to the gym for a couple hours, go home, shower, Emma would cook dinner, then they'd sit in the garden for a while, go home, watch a movie or read a book, have tea then fall asleep. Throughout it all, she couldn't stop thinking about when Killian would finally come see her. Any time a door opened she's be checking instantly see if it was him. Any text Blue got she'd ask if it was him. Blue always told her that he was very busy at work and he would come as soon as he could, but he still hadn't came to see her. It was at the point where she was starting to get really irritated, she'd been waiting patiently, biting her lip but it was getting very hard to hold back at his excuses anymore.
Sitting down on the sofa, Ruby jumped up by her feet, curling herself round till she was comfortable acting like a blanket for Emma's ankles. She knew Blue was on the phone, and she knew exactly to whom she was speaking to. She was just waiting for her moment to butt in and talk to him herself. Blue came out from the kitchen holding a bowl of popcorn, placing it on the table in front of Emma, insisting she take come for herself.
"Okay, yes. Not a problem boss," she said down the phone. Emma faked acting surprised and mouthed 'is that Killian?' to Blue. With a nod and the hold up of a finger and she tried to listen to what her boss was saying, Emma stood.
"I want to speak to him." Emma told her bluntly. Blue looked up slightly stunned at her random demand.
"Um, boss. Emma said she would like to speak to you." After a couple of seconds Blues eyebrows turned and her face frowned. She pulled her phone away from her ear and double checked her phone.
"Sorry Honey, he's just gone into a meeting."
"Fuck that, give me your phone." Emma held her hand out for Blue to place her mobile into, but she didn't budge. Emma raised her brows and moved her hand closer to her. Suddenly Ruby jumped up onto Blue, knocking her arm straight into Emma's hand allowing her access to grab her phone quickly.
"RUBY! You did that on purpose!" She heard Blue yell from behind her as she ran down to her bedroom, Ruby howling at her in response. Emma opened the call app and looked for recent calls, finding 'BOSS' quickly and hitting the call button. Within 2 rings he answered.
"Blue, what is it?"
"Not Blue, when are you going to come see me?" She asked, her heart beating faster at the sound of his voice.
"Emma? I'm in a meeting right now I need to go."
"Don't you dare!" She yelled at him, it was as if she could literally see his eyes widen in shock through the phone. "Don't you dare try to dodge me! Don't stick me in this apartment and not allow me to go anywhere, do anything and LIE to me. Don't you DARE!"
She was furious, and she didn't even know why. Yes she was mad that he hadn't come to see her since he'd put her in the apartment, but she didn't expect to be so livid in the phone.
"I- I told you, I will soon." He stuttered, definitely stunned by her outburst.
"Don't give me that bullshit anymore Killian. If you don't want to see me then just reject me. I get it, I'm disgusting, no one wants to SEE me. You don't have to keep me here because you feel sorry for me." Her anger was fading into pity, for Killian but also herself. Had she really thought he'd love her, that he'd want to spend the rest of his life with her? A handsome, rich alpha like him could get any woman he wanted, there's not a change he'd choose her over all the others out there he could have. She caught herself in the reflection of her dresser, the sun catching her ugly red scar making it look even more obviously on her face.
"I'll come by tonight." He spoke after a moment of nothing, "but it'll be late mind, I have to get some things done at work first."
"Fine, I'll be up waiting." She ended the phone call and sat on the edge of the bed. Did she even want to see him now? She didn't need him feeling sorry for her. Coming to see her out of pity, that was the last thing she wanted. She felt foolish. How had she let herself really believe there was something between them. Maybe for her there was but how could Killian ever love her. Skinny, weak, pale, ugly and bruised. No one could love her... Especially not the alpha of the Blood Moon Clan.
