Chapter 3: Nightmare
Bounce, bounce, bounce. Shake and rattle. Sore head. Mumbling overheard from inside of my egg. Not knowing of what is going on. I just had a young mind. Ready to be hatched to see my parents for the first time. However, the way I was getting treated clearly wasn't by my parents. I knew I had to hatch, but I would be weak, easily in danger. I finally stated to hatch to see where I was and who had me. However, the only thing I saw was his eyes.
The eyes of poison, infusing another being to appear within my own head, taking over my body as if my conscious has been shoved over to the side-lines. And from there, the transformation started. The feeling of every limb being torn and stretched in the most painful way. The wings expanding so fast that full holes would become a physical appearance of myself. Bones being malformed both being grown and broken at the same time. I was screaming the entire time but that was only my part of the mind, the darkness would just laugh and ridicule me for being weak and undisciplined.
His eyes appeared again but this time the dark spirit had full control and was ready to take every command that this dark being had to say. The command was very simple. "Resurrect me and kill anything that gets in the way of completing the task, unless you need that thing to bring me back."
The dark spirit acknowledged and flew off to prepare for completing the task at hand, which during the time period the dark spirit continuously tormented me in hope that I would completely give in to it. And I did. There was nothing I could do, other than to watch. The darkness was simply too strong for a hatchlings mind that I had at the time.
I was forced to watch horrific scenes of burnt moles, cheetahs and dragons from wildfires that I would create from my shadow fire breath, destroying complete communities and areas of land. Any dragon that attempted to stop me would fail as the darkness within me was greater than any light force that tried to counter act it. This would later prove to be false however at the time it did seem as if it was impossible to stop.
Then, capturing the guardians to absorb their elemental powers and store them in the crystals that would unlock the portal in Convexity to allow Malefor the opportunity to escape and be free to rein terror across the lands.
"Why do we do this? Just stop!" I screamed inside of my head.
"Oh Cynder, the darkness needs to rule the planet once again!" replied the dark spirit. "Just wait for the moment and you will be glad by what we will have achieved!"
The voice in my head. The thing in my head. The controller in my head. It would do as it pleases and constantly torture me to the point that I lost all hope. That was until I saw him. Spyro.
I didn't think any of the other hatchlings would have survived, yet I was proven wrongly. He survived. My last hope of escaping this darkness. My only chance of having control of my own body. I knew I had to act, but I didn't know how? Unfortunately, more hope was lost.
Ignitus. The last piece to the portal. The darkness had finally caught him. The spirit tortured the dragon, draining his elemental power in order to use it as the crystal key, which was complete. Spyro tried to stop me but it was too late, the spirit flew off with the final key for the portal.
"I can't believe it! We've almost done it Cynder!" said the dark spirit.
"Yeah, can't wait." I replied saddened and worried.
"Oh, don't you worry, you will be so happy ruling alongside Malefor!"
I knew I would hate it, but soon I could be forced to accept my role. The dragon who freed the Dark Master. We landed at the portal and activated the portal.
"It is time for the master to return!" the spirit stated.
However not all hope was lost as Spyro arrived with the attempt to stop my body from activating the entire thing. The dark spirit however was not happy with this at all and tried to end the purple dragon once and for all.
I knew I had to do something. Something to prevent the near imminent death of Spyro. So, I did the only thing I could... distract the spirit inside me.
"Woah, you're near the edge!" I shouted.
"No, I'm not?" the spirit replied confused and bang! Spyro get a good hit on me. I planned on distracting him further, however a burning sensation started to be felt. A sensation that only my consciousness could feel and not the entire body. The spirit was literally burning my entire soul.
"If you don't want to help, I will just finish you off once and for all!"
More than ever I needed Spyro to win, otherwise the real Cynder would never exist. However, I could simply no longer think straight as the burning sensation had become too strong for myself to cope with it. I was going insane. The inside of my conscious was just burning the inside out, slowly driving me further to insanity, but the spirit. It never cared for one moment. All I prayed for was for Spyro to finally defeat me and release me from this eternal prison of hell. But the worst happened. He lost.
"Ahaha, weak fool. Now time for you to become non-existent Cynder!" screamed the spirit.
"No, ahh. Nooo..." I screamed back in absolute agony.
"Cynder! Cynder! Wake up!" cried a familiar voice. From there, my eyelids shot open, realising that everything that had happened, didn't actually happen. I was shaking from the internal mental pain that I just had occur to me, not knowing if it had fully gone away. "Cynder. Calm down. It was all a dream" Spyro said softly and reassuring, hugging me tightly at the same time. I could feel a tear run down from my own eyes just from every emotion that I had just experience within the past few moments. "What happened?"
"I had just relived the entire time I was in my dark form, and rather than you defeat evil me, evil me defeated you, and tried to burn my spirit away." I replied, barely able to keep my composure, crying over his shoulder.
"Well, hear me out. The darkness is nearly completely gone. And we will make sure that it is fully defeated after we return to Warfang. Okay?" he asked.
"Okay... I'm just worried about it still. Like I'm forever scarred with these black scales." I said before continuing to sob.
"Well yeah, but it proves that you were able to overcome your evil self. Like I only helped. You made the change to happen."
"I guess your *sobs* right"
"See, and I would guard you over my life. No one will ever hurt you again like that. Not on my watch."
"Oh, thank you Spyro!" I replied squeezing him tighter in our hug.
"No problem. Now do you want to sleep with our heads next to each other and our tails interlocking with each other, so you know you are with me?" He questioned with both sympathy and a bit of excitement.
"Yeah, that would be very nice" I replied, glad to know that my Spyro really is very caring. We start to loosen our hug to allow for us to move back into a sleeping position. We both lay our heads right next to each other, looking at each other straight in the eyes with intent and passion. We then moved our tails so that our tails interlocked with each other so that we know that we were always together. We finally exchanged a kiss before sending ourselves to sleep. However, Spyro looked at me one more time.
"Don't worry, we're safe. But now, we need to get some sleep. Right, night Cynder, love you."
"Ok, night Spyro, love you too."
With all that done, we went back to sleep but with interlocking tails to ensure that we know that we were always sleeping with each other. I just hope I can get at least some quality sleep and not have another terror, but I shouldn't because I know I am connected to Spyro.
