Chapter 5: Surpassing the Odds

As we were walking through the Dragon Temple inside of Warfang, I noticed how it looked so much more luxurious and the overall quality of the stone and metals was far greater when compared to the one I was familiar to. It was also much, much bigger with clear intentions that this is built for habitation for a whole dragon's life. Whist at the others, a more temporary stay is better accustomed.

Following Cyril through the temple, we went through a set of grand doors that look extremely complicated and expensive to build. As the door slowly opens, I briefly thought about how Cyril acted shocked and surprised by the fact that we had even survived the whole thing. As if he knew that we should have died by the books but I and Cynder proved the books wrong.

Eventually, the door fully opened to what appeared to be a meeting hall, showing the other two guardians of Terrador and Volteer. As soon as they saw me, they quite literally jumped out of their skin.

"Impossible!" Volteer announced in a shocked voice.

"I can't believe it. He survived!" Terrador commented also shocked.

"Spyro, we need to know how you are here and how you did all of this," Cyril asked, clearly intrigued by how I and Cynder had survived.

"Well, to be honest, I don't know," I replied not knowing what to say. "I just used the Aether element to heal the planet, and I knew it should kill me with all of the energy I used, but it didn't."

"Hm, and Cynder do you have anything that could explain how you guys are here right now," Terrador questioned, thinking a dark elemental power could explain it.

"No, after defeating Malefor, I just stood by Spyro. I did nothing because he has done everything for me, and I'd feel guilty if I escaped and he well died," Cynder replied, who started to tear up about the whole thing.

"I thought you guys were tethered. How is it possible that you could have escaped and leave Spyro to do his work?" Cyril added, clearly confused about how she could have escaped.

"Once we had defeated Malefor, the snake necklace that trapped us together disappeared," Cynder replied at the brink of crying.

"Right guys that's enough! These guys have had a harsh time! Let them have dinner and give them their room for the night," Sparx responded, clearly noticing that Cynder was done with it all and wanting to prevent an awkward scene. "I want to go back to sleep anyway!" (or maybe he just wanted to go to sleep).,

"He has a point," said Terrador also noticing Cynder's state. He then focussed his attention towards me and Cynder, "I'll show you two to your room and where you can grab a bite to eat."

"Brilliant," I replied before we opened the grand doors at the other side of the and headed straight towards the centre of the temple.

As the doors shut to the meeting room and with Sparx flying off to his area within the temple, it just left me, Terrador and Cynder walking towards the centre of the temple. Terrador then speaks with a bit of sorrow, "I am sorry about upsetting you Cynder with the question."

"It's ok, I just got emotional" Cynder replied still quite saddened by all the drama that had happened in the short period.

"Anyway, to your left is the dining hall where you can grab some dinner as well as all meals while you are here. To the right up the stairs is where your room is. We reserved it just for you in case this happened," stated, in which he then faced me directly. "Spyro, can I have a quick word in private."

"Uh yeah sure," I replied, with me and Cynder giving a nod of the head, she went through to the dining hall leaving myself and Terrador in the central room.

"Like I'm wondering, where is Ignitus? I thought he would have returned with you," Terrador asked coldly, thinking the worst has happened to him.

"He... he didn't make it. He... he sacrificed himself to get myself and Cynder through to Malefor's lair." I commented saddened by the whole event.

"I thought he had done something like that," Terrador replied with sadness but also a bit of proudness. "He would have done anything for you and Cynder to make it up to you, and I think now he will be satisfied. Now go on, enjoy your dinner and rest. I promise nothing about the last major events that have occurred will no longer be spoken about."

"Ok, and thanks Terrador," I added glad to hear that everything can be put behind now. With a quick approving nod, I decided to head into the dining hall to join Cynder for some necessary food that is needed inside my empty stomach. As soon as I entered the dining hall through the set of doors, I was gobsmacked. Beautiful dragon sculptures surrounded the walls along with two long sandstone strengthened tables and at the end, a massive buffet with what seemed to be an endless row of foods to choose from. With food insight, the only thing in my mind is to stuff my face.

Anything that you could want there to be was there. Pork, beef, lamb and so much more. Even some kinds of fish were up available. Knowing that I would be here for a while, I decided to just go with the lamb and beef that I was accustomed to just so I could simply be filled with enough food to satisfy my hunger. As soon as I grabbed the meats, I looked around and noticed Cynder sitting at the end of the left side table (left side when entering the room) so I brought my plate over to sit beside her.

"I thought you would have sat down first before grabbing your food," she said, clearly wanting to chat with me about something."

"Oh sorry, I'm just so hungry right now, I needed to get my food first" I replied with saliva building in my mouth.

"Fair enough, I was just curious about what Terrador asked or said to you," she added, with a clear interest in what should be private matters.

"Well, one word. Ignitus," I replied with a horrible gut feeling.

She didn't know what to say so simply said "oh" before going back into her food knowing how much of a sensitive topic it is to me. She was having what appeared to be lamb with a lump of unfamiliar meat alongside it.

"What is that?" I questioned, pointing to the strange meat with my left forepaw

"That is a rabbit," she replied just before eating part of it. "It's quite a light piece of meat and it has a very unique taste."

"Well, that will surely be on my tasting list for tomorrow then!" I added, excited about having a more varied set of meats for once as I had only really eaten lamb and mutton and occasionally beef.

"I'm looking forward to it too, and maybe I could get a special kind of meat," she replies with a smirk on her face, winking at me as well. I didn't know how to respond as I didn't know what she meant by that, so I gave off an awkward smile. Soon enough, we were just fully focussed on finishing our meals as we had a big plate for the size of us. Soon enough we had finished and with us both being stuffed, we just wanted to go to our room to get some much-needed rest.

We both headed out of the dining hall and headed straight ahead which lead to a set of stairs. As soon as we climbed the stairs, a corridor of rooms could be seen, with each room having a dragon's name. The four rooms along the corridor belonged to each of the current guardians including Volteer, Terrador, Cyril and even Ignitus clearly showing that they had once lived here before. At the end of the corridor was a gold-encrusted door with the names "Spyro and Cynder".

"This must be it," I responded once noticing the door with our names. "This door is quite something else though".

"To me, it seems a bit too much, but I am not going to complain," Cynder replied, clearly surprised and shocked by the luxury of just the door.

Soon enough, we opened the door to reveal the contents of the room which was simply amazing. Two full-sized beds, a massive balcony, bookshelves, painted walls, authentic rugs and even a painting of us both. How on earth did they make a painting of us without them even seeing us? The scary thing was that it was very accurate as well.

"Wow," we both said completely in sync, just struck in awe of the scale of the amazing room.

"No way, there's a full-on bathroom here!" exclaimed Cynder who opened the door to reveal a marble made shower, bath and sink with plenty of different soaps and scale cleaners to choose from.

"This is quite something else!" I added, still wordless on how to describe the room.

"Well, at least we know that we will be living life pretty comfortably for a while now," commented Cynder.

"Yup!" I replied. After a quick exploration of the room, I was still knackered from all the flying and events that had happened today, so I thought it was best to get some rest and get to sleep to enjoy a new day tomorrow of a new chapter. As I climbed into bed, Cynder came over clearly wanting to ask a question. "What is it Cynder?" I asked.

"Well even though we do have our separate beds now in a nice warm room, I would still like to sleep with you Spyro," she answered, with her voice showing love and passion.

"To be honest, I hoped that was what you were going to ask me," I replied smiling with joy. She slowly got onto the bed, laying down, right next to me. As soon as we saw our eyes staring into each other, we got closer and went to start a long passionate kiss. Our wings folded over each other tightly, our tails became interlocking with each other and our bodies were touching in as many places possible.

Eventually, the tiredness had gotten to us, we both moved our lips away and loosened our grip of each other.

"Hopefully we can have a good day tomorrow," I mentioned with positivity, seeing hope for a free from fighting life.

"Yeah, I hope so too. Night Spyro, love you," replied Cynder with a very positive voice.

"Love you too Cynder," I added before quickly going to sleep, with a smile on my face knowing that things will just get better.
