Chapter 6: Chronicler
Throughout my sleep, the only thing that my mind would think about was Cynder. What if she had a terrible nightmare again? What would happen with the guardians tomorrow? Just questions upon questions still to be answered. I guess for the next few days that we will still be busy but rather than fighting, it would be about understanding an ordinary life. It made me wish that Ignitus was still here. He was more than just a mentor; he was truly like a father to me. He would happily give up everything just for me which in the end, he did.
Still worrying about Cynder, I opened my own eyes just to check that she was still sleeping. However, I was about to see something very unexpected. I was no longer at the Dragon Temple. I was no longer with Cynder. I was at the Celestial Caves.
All I started to do was murmur questions. How am I here? How did I get here? Am I still asleep? Questions overloaded my mind with confusion and worry. Needless to say, I was here for a reason. I could feel it. The Chronicler is wanting a catch-up.
Wandering through, I knew what I had to do. The trials would no doubt test me again, meaning that I would be fighting again. Yet, there was nothing. Just deathly silence. As if everything had been removed from this entire place.
Something isn't right. I can feel it. I thought that by now something would have appeared. A dark memory to fight against. A new bound threat to try and take over the land or destroy it. Something was coming and as each room went by, there was nothing. It just made me more and more anxious believing that something big was at the end. Something big and terrible. Something like Malefor himself.
Something is coming, and it is right behind! I sharply turned 180 degrees expecting a being to try and get the surprise attack. Yet nothing. What is going on? The next room is the Chronicler's room and there has not been a single trial. Everything just didn't seem to add up with all the words and thoughts jumbled up in my mind. Eventually, I reached the room.
The door opened suddenly, showing how the mood was quite urgent and important. The Chronicler knew something was wrong and needed to tell me. He looked the same in every aspect, however, he acted differently but was familiar. He was just so much faster as if he had lost hundreds of years of age that he had lived. As if it was someone else. Eventually, he looked at me straight into my eyes.
"Spyro! It is good to see you again" He answered, but in a different voice than before. A very familiar voice. A voice that was like second nature to me, until it vanished after the firewall. It was the voice of Ignitus.
"Ignitus?" I questioned, still confused by how the Chronicler could have his voice. Nothing was seeming to add up. Everything is blurry.
"Well Spyro, I no longer go by that name, but it is me Ignitus," he replied in his regular tone of voice with a sense of relief in it.
"I don't get it. How are you here?" I asked, knowing that it was him but still confused by how he had ended up being in the Chronicler's scales.
"Well, when you defeated Malefor, a new age was started, and with that new age, a new chronicler would take place of the previous one. And that so happens to be me."
"So now you will be the chronicler until this currently new period comes to an end?"
"Exactly!"
"But, how are you alive again? I saw you die right there and then."
"My spirit was reawakened, given another life. Another life as the Chronicler. I will never be able to see you again for real unless you were to go to White Isle."
"Huh, ok. So why did you bring me here anyways? Because in a sense you called me here."
"Because there is one thing that you must know about your new life. And that is how your teenage body will act much, much differently to your child body."
"So, it's a lesson?"
"Exactly, but I can only give it to you once as I do have a busy future ahead of me so let's get started whilst everyone is still asleep, including yourself."
"Right, let's get this done."
I remember Ignitus once telling me about the body changes of a dragon and how it can start to change one's behaviour and way of acting amongst others, however, he never went into full detail as my mind was still at the time too young for it to fully understand. Well, that is what he said to me at the time.
I thought I was going to be ready for the final lesson with Ignitus. Something that I thought would never happen again. However, the lesson was well... I have no words to describe it. It was all about the thing that I had heard many people ask me and Cynder if we were this thing. It was about mating.
It was quite hard to grasp all the language and things that he was showing me. I just wanted to leave and just be back at the Dragon Temple, but I knew that this was important, so even though I was about to be full-on sick, I still stuck with it. The anatomy of our bodies, how they work and slowly change as processes occur. Everything that I needed to know, I learned in so much detail that, to be honest, I could teach everyone else about.
Things started to become clearer as we progressed. How Cynder had been acting differently and how she has been hinting at me to mate, even when I thought she was trying to be smart. She's just in the process at an earlier time compared to me. Everything just became clear in a matter of a night. And I knew what was meant to come. We were just approaching mating season, meaning that any female dragon out there would want to mate, would do anything to mate. Which explains why this crucial lesson was taking place right now. To prepare me for the unpredictable times ahead.
"And that Spyro, is everything you need to know right now. Any questions?" He asked, wanting confirmation that I knew everything I needed to know.
"Just one thing." I answered back, "Why are you teaching me this instead of the other guardians?"
"Well, I just have a feeling that they wouldn't want to teach you this lesson. I was the one meant to teach you this in the first place anyway. And now you can pass it onto Cynder who will also need to know." he replied, with a shed of light beaming through his voice.
"Ah, right got it Ignitus," I said back to him, giving him the biggest smile back to him, knowing that this could be the last time I see him for a long, long time. I quickly ran up to him giving a cuddle, expressing every gratitude of thanks towards him through action and not words. He simply hugged me back, with a tear running from his eyes onto my body.
"One last thing Spyro." he quickly said whilst still hugging me, "No matter what anyone tells you, make sure that you lead your path that will give you and everyone around the best outcome. Don't be afraid of the unknown, you have a chance to live life normally, so live it."
"Ok" I simply responded, becoming saddened that I will need to leave soon. We slowly loosened our grip on each other with Ignitus standing back and looking at me proudly. He went back to his original position, where he was arranging many books into place on the bookshelf.
"Bye Ignitus!" I shouted whilst exiting his new home.
"Bye Spyro! Believe in yourself!" he shouted back before he returned his attention to the bookshelf. This was our farewell. Our time to split ways once again but now knowing that he will forever be safe rather than having to worry about what could get him.
Walking through the caves, a persistent nudge was on my shoulder, but nothing was there. What is doing that? I was confused and slowly started running which only made the nudging harder and more aggressive. It had confused me as I had no idea of what was happening. I blinked one more time, but rather than in the caves, it was in my shared room at the Dragon Temple whom the company I had was trying to give me a wake-up call.
A/N
Well another fairly short chapter however from now, chapters will be longer and will take time to create.
Things are going well, still got to think about the future of the story but I do have some ideas on how to bring both romances as well as a bit of action to come.
Well this is it, thanks again for reading, Supaconnor
