"I told you, Agnes, I feel great." Hayley told the old witch who was sitting on the couch across from Hayley. I laid at Hayley's feet, sprawled out, trying to cool myself off from this unbearable heat. "I feel great."

"You are overdue for a checkup." Agnes gently told Hayley, her tone brittle.

"What am I gonna do, pop into the quarter for a quick ultrasound? A pregnant werewolf escorted by a witch? Nothing to see here."

"A lot of women would kill to have a child." Rebekah muttered in a flat tone from the other room as she continuously typed away on a laptop, trying to find the attic that Davina erased from her memory. "Strikes me as odd that you're not taking better care of yours." Hayley sighed heavily and I sat up and leaned against the couch next to her.

"I know a doctor out in the bayou off the beaten path." Agnes said. "Now I took the liberty of making an appointment for you tonight after hours, just us. Vampires will never get word of it." There was no way I was allowing Hayley to go without me to a stranger out in the middle of the bayou when she had a target on her back. I stood on all four legs now and turned to fully face Hayley, whimpering and snorting, shaking my head. Hayley stared at me for a moment, deciphering what I was trying to tell her.

"She'll want to go to."

"Having another werewolf, a hybrid at that, there will only make the doctor suspicious and nervous. It's best if it's just you and me." I snarled and bared my teeth at Agnes before snorting at Hayley again and dipping my head to her. She was quiet for a moment.

"Ok. Fine. Bayou baby doctor it is."

I trudged up the steps to the church with Rebekah, still pissed that Hayley left with Agnes without me. Rebekah had recruited me against my will to help her go on a tour of the city to glance around at shutters. We had been out walking all day when she spotted the shutters on St. Anne's church's attic windows.

"If this isn't it, I'm going to kill myself." I muttered as I opened the large wooden door.

"I'll help you." Rebekah smiled bitterly at me as she walked into the church with me behind her. We walked into the main room of the church and I glanced around the destruction. Pieces of wood were laid scattered across the floor. Blood stained the walls like artwork. The pews were pushed around, none of them in a straight line. A man was at the front, sweeping with his back to us. At the sound of our echoing footsteps, the man stopped sweeping and turned to us.

"Church is closed." He said flatly. "You want your horror fix, go take a ghost tour."

"I don't much care for ghosts. I am, however, fascinated by window shutters. I've been on a town tour of them all day. I noticed the windows of your attic have shutters."

"Are you really interested in shutters?"

"Oh, you have no idea." I said sarcastically as I smiled bitterly at him, walking down one of the rows of pew.

"I can assure it's my current life obsession." Rebekah said. "What's your name?"

"Father Kieran, and you are?"

"Mildly curious. What happened here?"

"St. Anne's used to be the heart of the neighborhood. It's been abandoned for a while now. Since the night of the massacre. Nine seminary students were killed by one of their own. You're standing on blood."

"We're not squeamish." I said, coming up behind him. "Where's your attic so I can get on with my day?"

"Like I said, the church is closed." Rebekah stepped up close to the father and fixated her gaze directly in his eyes.

"Where is the attic?" Rebekah compelled him.

"Past the sacristy. Up the stairs."

"Thank you. Now forget that we were here." I followed Rebekah to the back of the church and up the wooden steps that climbed higher and higher into the attic. We walked down the hallway to an opened door the led to a bedroom. It had a canopied bed and was styled like a Victorian room. There was an easel with some art supplies as well. Sitting at the foot of the bed was an open coffin and inside was a sleeping Elijah. "I knew it." His skin was a pale blue grey, blue veins bulging through his skin. She tried to step in through the threshold, but an invisible barrier kept us from entering. Great. Someone living was occupying this room which meant we had to be invited in. His eyes flew open and locked onto Rebekah's and I gave a startling gasp as my body jolted with shock. His eyes were open, but he made no attempt to move out of the coffin. Seconds passed and when he still didn't move, I relaxed a little bit, clasping my chest.

"Well, that's not creepy at all." I muttered to Rebekah. When she didn't reply, I observed Rebekah to see her eyes closed and standing perfectly still. "Rebekah?" No movement. "Rebekah?" No answer. I threw my hands up in exasperation. "Well, that's just great. I have one original vampire in a coffin in a room that I can't get in to and another original vampire who has allegedly gone catatonic. Perfect. That's just perfect." Moments passed with no movement from either of the original vampires.

"I swear." Rebekah finally breathed and I looked at her in confusion.

"What the hell was that?" She didn't answer me. Giving one last look at her older brother in the coffin, she sprinted down the steps and I had no choice but to follow her.

After finally getting an answer out of Rebekah that even in his catatonic state, Elijah had a plan in motion to get the little witch, Davina, on our side. The only thing he asked of us in return was that we protect Hayley and her baby. Which was a given. We headed out to the bayou where Hayley said the doctor was going to be but there were so many twists and turns through the trees it was easy to get turned around. I growled in frustration.

"Are you sure she said she was here?" I snapped at Rebekah.

"Yes." She growled back up me. Before I could snap something else at the original vampire, something caught my ear and I tilted my head as I strained my ear with my vamp hearing. There was grunting and screaming in the distance without a second thought, I was racing through the woods towards the sound, barreling into the first attacker I came across. I grabbed the shoulder of the assailant that was on Hayley, reaching through his chest to pull out his heart. Spinning on the ball of my foot, I put my entire body weight behind my fist as it slammed into the man's nose as he was coming at me. A satisfying crunch filled my ears as the cartilage of his nose was shoved up into his brain and he dropped to the ground. Panting, I scanned the clearing for anymore, but Rebekah had taken care of the rest of them. "I have to say I'm impressed."

"How'd you find me?" Hayley breathed as she took my outstretched hand to help her up.

"Your text got us halfway, vamp hearing did the rest. Who are they?"

"Witches, warlocks."

"Whatever." I snapped; my ears perked as I listened to branches snap around us. "There more of them. Hayley, run! I'm right behind you." Hayley left my eyesight as I faced the noise on side of the clearing while Rebekah took the other side.

"If I had a dollar for every mess my family's gotten me into." I heard Rebekah mutter. A whistling noise split through the air and I cried out as I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder blade. Instinctively, I grappled for the intrusion and my fingers curled around a wooden arrow. Before I could pull it out, I was shot again in the side of my lower abdomen and once more in my knee. I crumbled to the ground, unable to stand as I heard Hayley's voice call out to me and Rebekah. I looked across the clearing to see an arrow flying at Hayley. Quickly, with shaking hands, I broke the arrows off and yanked them out of my body. As soon as I was back on my feet, I was running to Hayley but a dozen more arrows were aimed in my direction and fired. The arrows were scattered across my body and I was on the ground once more crying out in agony. My breaths came ragged and my muscles felt like rubber bands ready to snap if I tried to move them. My vision blurred as I tried to reach for the arrows, but my hands felt like two-ton weights and the more I fought to stay conscience the faster the darkness came, and I passed out. I didn't know how long I was out for but when I finally opened my eyes again and sat up, the clearing was littered with bodies. I stared in shock as I eyed each one of them. Dead. My body ached and screamed as I tried to move. I still had the arrows in me. Whimpering in pain, I reached up and quickly pulled out the one in my left shoulder. Hayley… panic settled in as I quickly scanned the clearing once more, praying I didn't see Hayley's body amongst them. I fumbled with the arrow in my lower back. No pink sweater. A tiny relief fluttered in me as I scanned the woods around us, looking for her as I yanked the arrow out of my stomach, crying out in agony. The worst part was that the wounds had already tried to heal themselves around the arrows, so I was essentially creating whole new wounds in order to pull the arrows out.

"Hayley?" I called out, my voice echoing in the foggy night as I moved to the arrows in my legs. "Hayley?" No answer.

"She's not here." Rebekah's voice sounded from across the clearing as she stumbled to me, panting. "I've looked." Groaning, I slowly climbed to my feet, my legs and thighs burning as the wounds re-healed themselves where the wooden intrusions used to be. Rebekah pulled out her phone and dialed Klaus' number as I continued to spin out in a circle looking out into the night hoping that Hayley would appear from behind a tree or something. I sniffed the air. Once. Twice. All I could smell was blood and the rapidly rotting flesh of dead witches in the humid Louisiana weather.

"What do you mean she's missing?" I heard Klaus ask and I snarled in the direction of the voice.

"Did he serious just ask that?" I snapped, my eyes shifting with concern and bitterness and worry. "What part of she's missing did his incompetent mind not understand?"

"There's blood and bodies everywhere, someone's ripped this lot to shreds, and there's no smart-aleck pregnant girl." Rebekah said.

"Keep looking." Klaus ordered. "I'm on my way." It took about an hour, but we finally managed to find a small red shack that had to be the doctor Hayley was supposed to see. Medical equipment and files were scattered across the floor of the entranceway as if there was a struggle. I inhaled deeply but didn't smell Hayley's blood, just her natural scent which meant that she was here, but she wasn't hurt. We walked to the back of the shack to the examination room to see a blonde hair doctor dead on the floor. I observed the room trying to find any signs of where Hayley might have gone when a whooshing noise sounded behind me and I turned to see Klaus standing in the threshold with a serpentine smile and his hands clasped behind his back.

"Well, you abandoned your quest for power to help out your family." Rebekah taunted her older brother. "Having an off day?"

"Who took her, Rebekah?" Klaus demanded quietly; his voice laced with quiet thunder.

"I don't know."

"What do you mean you don't know? Then who killed her attackers."

"I don't know. Hayden and I had arrows in our hearts. If it wasn't Hayley who killed them, then—" The conversation was interrupted by a wolf howling from outside. "Lovely. Perhaps her cousins will know where she is." I walked hastily to the front door and stood on the porch as I looked out into the darkness to see Hayley stumbling out of the woods, disoriented. As she got closer, I noticed that she had dirt and blood caked on his flawless skin. I leapt from the porch and ran over to her with Klaus behind me.

"Hayley, what happened?" I demanded, taking her hands in mine and she clung to my forearms, swaying as if she were about to pass out. "Tell me what happened."

"I can't remember." Hayley muttered as she stared blankly in front of her, her brown eyes wearily and tired as she tried to focus on us but couldn't quite do it. Klaus stared her over as if he were looking for something.

"You've completely healed." Klaus observed quietly. "There's not a scratch on you."

"One of the perks of being a werewolf, remember?"

"No. Not that fast."

"It's the baby, the vampire blood, Klaus' blood in your system." Rebekah theorized as I slowly guided Hayley over to the front porch steps and sat her down so she could rest for a moment. "It can heal any wound. Your own child healed you."

"How did you escape?" I asked her. "You were outnumbered, unarmed. Those men were ripped to shreds."

"I think it was the wolf." I almost wanted to ask if it was Tyler, but I didn't dare mention that name in front of Klaus. I would have to wait until we were alone to ask her who exactly this wolf she keeps seeing is. "I think it's trying to protect me."

"The witches were supposed to protect you." Klaus growled. "When I get my hands-on Sophie Deveraux—"

"It wasn't Sophie. It was Agnes."

"Fine. Agnes, Sophie, it's all the same to me. I'll slaughter the lot of them."

"Not if Elijah gets there first." Rebekah said.

"Elijah?" Hayley questioned her. "Did you find him?"

"He's been in touch, and he has a plan. All he asked is that we take care of you."

"Hey. So, can we go home now? I'd really like to sleep for a few days." I stood up and walked down the steps and as Hayley followed my lead, her knees collapsed underneath her from exhaustion. Before I could turn around, Klaus was already there to catch her. "Whoa!" He slipped his arm around her shoulders and under legs, scooping her up and carrying her back to the car. She was too tired to protest.

"I've got you, love." Klaus whispered to her. "I've got you."
