ENTRY 13
HEARTBREAK RED #4
I locked eyes with the man of my dreams in the mirror, punctuating my wink with the pop of the cap of my lipstick. I shake my hips to the beat of the drums erupting from my boom box. Eddie's classic hits remained in slot #1 of my six-disk CD player.
I stared at the open lipstick, smirking.
Heartbreaker Red #4 was my favorite shade. Teen Vogue says it's delicious, devilish, and inviting. One small tube from the Thriftway had the power to make any man fall at your feet.
Running the opened tube over my lips, I smiled to myself. My teased brown hair looked wild against the bright pink shade of my dress.
I grab the remote to my boom box to turn the music off.
"Bella, Mike's here!" I hear my mom call up the stairs. I sigh, tossing the remote on the fuzzy carpet and reaching up to fluff my hair again.
Average high school boys.
An average date for a not so average girl.
Why was I settling for Mike Newton?
I didn't belong with a guy like him and his overly gelled hair.
I belong with a guy like Eddie Mason. I lock eyes with him again as I cap the lipstick and rub shiny tinted lip balm from a tin on the dresser over my lips. I turn away from the mirror, satisfied with myself for the evening and move to approach the far wall of my bedroom.
He was gorgeous—dreamy, sexy, and every fifteen-year old's dream. Drummer, singer, bad boy extraordinaire.
Only I wasn't most fifteen-year-olds.
I was the daughter of his #1 fan.
I run my fingers over my mother's old poster from her own teen-hood. I raise my hand to touch my lips, where the shiny gloss had now dried into a sticky concoction. It really wasn't my fault but there wasn't anything I could do to fight it. Mom said I can't go out with the full Vogue-effect as the magazine called it—I had to tone it down with Chapstick before she'd let me leave the house.
I rub my lips until fingers are bright red before touching them to his already scuffed lips.
"One day, Eddie, you'll be my date to the Valentine's day dance." I whisper, running my hand over the poster again, stopping to stare at the words the man of my dreams had once written: To my #1 fan, Renee Higgenbotham. Love, Eddie Cullen.
If she loved him so much, why was her last name now Swan?
Lame.
"Isabella! You're going to be late!" My mom yells again. I roll my eyes.
I wink at Eddie again before throwing my coat over my shoulders.
"I'll be back later, Eddie. Don't wait up." I say, laughing as I make my way towards the hallway.
He stared back at me, smiling with Heartbreaker Red #4 painted over his lips.
