They were both crying, a river of tears that neither of them could stop. Emma let out a sob, shaking her head, desperate for him to tell her it was all a lie. She couldn't hear a thing around her anymore. She was crying and sobbing so hard, her head was spinning. She wanted to leave, she wanted to forget.
She heard Killian's voice, but couldn't understand anything. Strong arms held her up, and she fought the dizziness to stay awake. Emma blinked several times, trying to calm herself. She felt a hand on her back, and Blues voice finally reached her ear.
"That's it, honey. Breath, slowly. Calm down, it's okay, it's okay."
"Emma. Emma..."
She heard Killian's voice repeating her name, and felt his arms around her, but she couldn't respond. She just gripped onto him, feeling colder than ever. She closed her eyes and rested against his chest while trying to slow her breather and stop her crying.
"She's got a bit of a fever, boss. Probably from last night."
"Let's take her back."
"No!"
She didn't know where she'd found the strength to protest, but her eyes were suddenly open and she clumsily tried to stand up again. Killian helped her find her feet, allowing her to rest on him as she tried to regain some composure before turning back to Neal.
"What about my mother then? My bi- birth mother?"
Neal shrugged.
"How would I know? I figured the bitch was dead... how about you join her?"
Ruby and Neal both instantly began to growl at him, and Killian turned to his Beta.
"We're done with him."
"No, stop!" Emma yelled.
After all she'd heard, she supposed Neal was a victim, too. What happened to his father wasn't his fault, but it did feel a bit like hers. He was still young when it happened. After what had happened, she couldn't blame him for hating her and her father. She knew how awful he'd been to her, she hadn't forgot any of it, but... but she didn't know how she felt anymore, she was totally confused. To confused to make any good decisions. Yet she knew she didn't want Killian to kill him. That wasn't something wise to do at that moment, and she didn't want to regret it later.
But once again, Neal was laughing with a wide smile, looking crazy as hell.
"What, you want to save me, Emma? Play the nice little girl? The pitiful one? When are you going to get it? I hate you! And I don't regret a single thing I did to you! Every time I hit you was fucking worth it! I wish I killed you that night!"
All of a sudden, she lost her balance and saw Killian jumping at Neal. He was way to fast for her, as well as her still feeling quite weak. Emma watches as Ruby jumped to stop him, but Killian just punched her away like a sandbag. Alec stepped in second, but Killian just ran at him with full force, sending his Beta flying back into the wall behind him. Within a split second after shaking off the two siblings, Killian shifting into a black wolf form, his fangs ready to latch into Neal's throat.
Emma let out a blood curdling scream.
She really thought he was going to kill Neal. For a split second, she thought she saw her ex partner dead. The dark, black wolf rushed towards Neal, and in the confusion, it took her a moment to realise there was actually two black wolves. She hadn't even noticed Graham had jumped in. Everything was happening so fast.
As soon as Killian realised it was his brother, he stepped back immediately, though stuff growling furiously. But Graham kept stood in front of Neal, his dark grey eyes fixated on Killian. The two brothers stared at each other for a while, and Emma was growing scared of them fighting until Blue caressed her hair.
"Don't worry, the boss would never attack one of his brothers. Graham is convincing him to let Neal live."
Emma nodded, trying to fight the dizziness. Everything that had just happened was making her head spin, it was to much all at once. Her father was an unfaithful husband, she wasn't her mother's daughter, Neal had known her her whole life and she hadn't even realised.
On the sides, Ruby and Alec both got up. Ruby joined Emma's side to support her, while Alec headed to his alpha, probably to argue with him, too. She wished she hear what they were saying to each other, Killian still hadn't stopped growling. But after what felt like an eternity, he finally turned and came back to stand in front of her, shifting swiftly. Emma couldn't help but shyly look away as Killian pulled a pair of dress trousers back onto himself, but that was all he wore. Graham must have shape shifted back to his human form too, as she could hear his voice again.
"I'll take care of him, Emma." Graham said as he pulled a T-shirt over his head. "I promise we will not hurt him, anymore."
When she turned to Graham, he was putting tape over Neal's mouth to shut him up. Emma wasn't sure how she felt about his offer, but she knew for sure she needed to know if Graham was tricking her again. Before she could reply, the brother spoke again, clearly guessing her thoughts.
"Don't worry, I'm serious. I will take him in for a psychiatric evaluation, okay? We will keep him under surveillance at the hospital."
She didn't really understand how they were going to take Neal to a hospital in the state that he want and knowing damn well it was them who had done it, but she was past caring. Emma was still way to shocked from Neal's earlier revelations. She was teary and tired. Just as she tried to pull herself together, Killian was by her side once more, lifting her up into his arms. Before she could say a word, he carried her away from the scene, Blue and Ruby ready to follow, but Killian let out a growl.
"Leave us alone."
She saw Blue frown, but they were already in the elevator. Killian pressed a button and with that the doors closed and they were alone. He was still carrying her, Emma's head against his shoulder when he whispered, "It's okay, Emma."
Just as he said those words, something inside her that she was holding up snapped loose of her grip. Within a split second she was sobbing loudly against his neck, unable to stop. Her arms wrapped around Killian's neck and she was sobbing like a little girl as he held her tightly against him. It was unstoppable. She felt so weak, so overtaken by everything she'd just heard, she didn't know how to deal with all the emotions that suddenly flooded her. She felt so stupid. All those years, she hadn't realised what had happened between her parents. How could she be so clueless and naive?!
Emma kept crying, unable to bear any other way. She'd felt Killian walking again, but she hadn't looked up to see where he was taking her. She just needed to exult her pain somehow, and sobbing was all she could do at that moment.
At some point, she'd realised Killian was sitting, and his hands moved. One was caressing her hair and holding her neck against him, while the other was around her waist. She could feel his lips against her temple as he tried to help her calm down.
"It's not your fault, Emma. Don't cry..."
But she couldn't stop. Tears were flowing and her heart was tightening painfully. Her family was destroyed from within, and she was the cause of it. She couldn't forgive herself, for being ignorant all those years. She was the little seed that implanted the madness in her mother's mind. For some reason, she couldn't even blame her father. What had happened to her birth mother? Why didn't she grow up with her? If her father had a lover, why did he stay with her mother without saying a thing for all those years? Was her biological mother really dead, like Neal said? Emma had more questions than she could handle, and so much grief, she could barely breath.
Killian was whispering softly into her ear, trying so hard to calm her down. She was shaking in his arms, still sobbing uncontrollably.
"You're okay, Emma. None of this is your fault. You didn't know, you were too young. It's okay, you're okay..."
He kept caressing her hair and murmuring comforting words, leaning kissed onto her head and temple from time to time. Despite it all, something about being in Killian's arms made it all a little easier. He rubbed her back, soothing her. After a while, Emma leaned back a bit, still sat on his lap but facing him. He'd brought them to what looked like a very neat office, probably his. She looked at Killian, still teary and probably looking a complete mess from all the crying.
"I... I can't believe it. My dad, he..."
"He probably did it to protect you, Emma. I don't know what happened to your birth mother, but he took you with him and made sure you were well looked after by Mary."
"But I'm the reason he died! And mother, too! She went insane because of me, because I existed!"
Killian shuck his head and placed a hand on her cheek, stroking it gentle with his thumb, still keeping her close to him.
"No, Emma. Your parents had issues. Your father should have told the truth and your mother probably had troubles before you came. Emma, you can't blame yourself. You were a baby, you had no idea."
"B-but Neal, he-"
"He took his frustration out on you. He had no right to. Despite what happened, you were not responsible, Emma."
She was having a hard time believing it. No matter what he said, everything happened because of her, because she was born from her fathers affair with another woman. How could she live with that? What was she meant to do with that information? She never knew, but now...
Killian suddenly pulled her into a kiss, taking her by surprise. His lips were gentle against hers, passionate as usual. After a few seconds, she answered his lips, carried by the movement. She didn't want to fight it. She needed his comforting presence; she needed him. His warm hands on her skin, his fingers grabbing her hair. Emma loved the feeling, the wave of heat coming from inside, as if there was a low fire burning within her. She grabbed some air before quacking falling back to his lips, her arms wrapped around his neck. Was it really okay? After all that had happened, it seemed crazy to be having such a moment with him in an office. It was just the two of them, and everything was quiet. Behind Killian, an amazing view of their city made her feel like she was in heaven with him.
His lips got more passionate against hers, and she couldn't say no. Their breathing accelerated, and Emma felt even hotter than before. Her body shivered, feeling his fingers against her skin. One of his hand slipped under her jumper, embracing her back and giving her delightful butterflies in her stomach. Emma gasped, and she heard him chuckle. Was he amused by her awkward reactions? She was shy, she couldn't help it!
She tried to kiss him more forcefully to make up for it, and she could feel Killian smile against her lips. His fingers clenched tighter in her hair, and his other held her closer to him until she was actually sitting astride him. Their kisses fell more intense, their breathing intertwined, echoing loudly in her ear. Their lips parted, and Killian aimed for her neck with ruthless kisses. She bit her lip and found herself leaning to the side to offer more of herself to him. What was happening to her? She should be embarrassed, but the desire for more overtakes it all. Her hands were on his back, his neck, pulling at his hair with her fingers.
"Emma, Emma..."
His voice whispering her name in her ear was making her crazy. She found his lips once again, their kiss starting anew. His hands progress on her skin, caressing her gently, but suddenly, a cold shiver ran through her.
"...good girl, Emma... Don't you play hard to get now..."
Emma let out a gasp and pulled away from his kiss in a panic. Killian hasn't noticed though, turning his head to spread kisses down her neck. His hand kept going on her body, making her shiver all the more, but not from pleasure. She was scared.
"Stop, Killian, stop!" She almost screamed. Emma struggled getting out of his arms, stumbling, panicked. He looked at her in shock. He tried to hold her back, still confused, but it was only scaring her more. Emma fought him off, and when he finally released her, she almost fell on all fours on the side.
"Emma? Emma, what's wrong?!"
She stood and crossed her arms over her body, tearing up once again. She couldn't believe it. She was scared. She was scared of Killian's touch. He stood from the chair they were both just sat in, stepping closer, but Emma shuck her head and stepped back. Kissing was okay, but...
Killian looked at her, confused. God, she felt so sorry. She felt like she was about to cry again, but he stopped still and sighed.
"Emma, tell me. What is it?"
His imperious tone, as usual. But she couldn't utter a word. She was scared and horrible ashamed. How could she possibly compare Killian to Jekyll? Why now? She shuddered just from the thought of that man, and shuck her head again. Emma's arms were around her still, almost as if she was shielding herself. Killian sighed and grabbing his phone from the desk.
"Blue, get here. Now."
He sounded so angry, she wanted to disappear. It was her fault. Their kiss was so intense, it was perfect, and yet there she was, rejecting him like a crazy woman. She thought she needed Killian, so why was she finding herself eluding him? She wished she could run back into his arms, back to his warm kisses again, but she was terrified. Those cold shivers wouldn't leave her, and she wouldn't be able to reject him twice.
He kept glancing at Emma, silent. He must've thought she was crazy, probably even regretted he had such a troublesome mate. That was not the end of Emma's dark thought, but thank Moon Goddess, Blue finally entered the room, followed by Ruby and Alec, back in his human form.
"Everything okay?" Blue asked, worried, as soon as she entered. She went straight to Emma, taking her face into her hands, frowning almost immediately.
"Emma, you're burning! I knew you had a fever! Boss? We really need to take her home."
"Take her back."
Killian was still staring at Emma, not showing any emotion. He simply nodded, and Blue, clearly understanding that there was something wrong between the two of them, laid an arm around Emma's shoulder, guiding her towards the exit.
"Come on, honey. Let's get you home, you need some rest."
Emma nodded weakly, still dizzy and a mess. Killian watched her leave the room, but she could decipher his cold ocean like eyes. She felt so numb, like she was about to pass out while Blue escorted her out of the office. As they passed the door, Emma heard Alec's voice.
"Why the murderous look?"
The ding of the elevator made Emma jump, and Blue softly led her inside. Meanwhile Emma's brain was still somewhere with Killian. She could help but let out a sob. Where the was one, maybe followed. As soon as the machine started to move, the tears started to flow.
"Oh, baby girl. You've had a tough day. You have dark circles under your eyes, too..."
Blue rubbed her back, trying to comfort her, but Emma just wanted to go home and curl up in her bed to cry.
