ENJOY XX
Twenty two.
Emma was really touched by Elise and Kathie's gesture. No matter how long she protested for, they demanded she took the money. Emma eventually appeared it, though their kindness meant much more to her than the amount. What a great first day! From the corner of the room, Ruby gave her a thumbs up. After thanking her new friends and colleagues, Emma joined everyone in cleaning the restaurant in a cheerful atmosphere. Everyone was chatting happily, some even seemed eager to know more about Emma. Daniel kept asking her questions, and Emma tried to answer as she could, though some were a bit awkward for her.
"So, are you a fighter, Emma?"
"Not really... I'm kind of a late-bloomer werewolf."
"I don't believe you! Well, with those beautiful eyes of yours, I bet your wolf form is amazing, too! Do you go for runs sometimes? I know good spots for that!"
He seemed nice, but Emma was a bit awkward, and her wolf was getting annoyed with him. From the corner, Ruby was sending her amused looks, not helping what so ever. Emma was just glad all of the staff seemed to like her, as much as Daniel was a bit pushy. As they kept cleaning the tablets, he stayed next to her, chattering non stop.
"I'm a hunter myself, you know. I could show you the ropes if you wish? Which pack are you from by the way? I don't believe I've seen you before..."
"Daniel! Aren't you suppose to be cleaning the mirrors? Why do I find you annoying Emma? Stop being so curious!"
Annoyed by Aurora's yell, he rolled his eyes but still gave Emma a wink before going. Kathie was quick to switch places with him, joining Emma, less curious as Daniel as they talking about trivial things. About an hour later, she was finished with a smile that wouldn't go away, joining Ruby, who was waiting with a large cup of coffee. Her signature smile appeared when Emma approached her.
"Hi, there!"
"A macchiato?" Emma guessed from the smell. Ruby nodded, finishing the remains in one go. Ruby really did have a childish taste. Emma took a seat next to her, watching her new coworkers go one by one, each saying goodbye to her as they left.
"You look happy." Ruby said.
"I am! It went great! And everyone is nice, too."
She chuckled, and Emma frowned. Why was that funny?
"I noticed. Wait for it. I think some might be a bit too friendly soon."
"What does that mean?" Emma asked, intrigued.
"Just saying."
She didn't say anymore, but Emma was still curious. What did that mean? Was she talking about Daniels attitude earlier? Ruby smiled innocently. Emma hoped she wasn't too bored while she was working, stuck sitting in the corner alone. Ruby didn't help at all and barely interacted with the others. Emma only say her talking to Robin at one point.
"Do you know the staff here well?" She asked.
"Robin is one of our Black Moon clan warriors, when he's not cooking. So are a couple of the other kitchen staff. And Elise is a hunter from the Eclipse Moon clan. She's pretty good."
It was a bit worrying to imagine them as wolves after she'd saw them working all day as perfect looking staff. Though Emma's wolf did analyse their smell out of habit, and about two thirds of the staff were werewolves. She should probably learn to be more aware of other clans now, she supposed... Seeing Aurora from across the room on the phone, she wondered about her, too.
"What about Aurora?"
"Eclipse Moon clan. She's a hunter, too, but..."
"But..."
Ruby frowned, lowering her voice as she replied.
"She's not in the fields to much these days. Let's say she has other... objectives."
Other objectives? What was that mystery? Emma observed Aurora, standing tall and perfect looking like some model out of a fashion magazine. She was so tall, Emma envied her a little. But what could such a woman possibly want? From where Emma stood, Aurora had the looks and a good position, too. All of the staff slowly left the restaurant until they were the only ones left inside, including the head chef and Aurora. They were still discussing the menus, though Ruby and Emma were useless in that, so they just casually chatted to each other.
Around 3pm, Ruby raised her head, and Emma sees Graham coming in. Aurora immediately walked up to him with a perfect smile on her face. From the expectant look in her eyes and her attitude with him, Emma gathered what was going on instantly. Aurora might be trying to act normal, but Emma could tell she was being extra mindful of her every move and even changed her tone slightly, too. Emma exchanged a look with Ruby, who nodded. She was either after Graham or already one of his "private" relationships. Emma recalled what Blue and Ruby mentioned before. Behind the gentle and smiling face, she guessed the angel-like brother really was the player they described.
He listened to Aurora and the head chef for a while, before dismissing them and walking towards them. He greeted Ruby with a nod and gave Emma a smile.
"Happy birthday, princess! How was your day? Aurora told me you did great!"
"Thanks, Graham. And thank you for the birthday present, I loved the shoes! Yes, everything went amazing! Thank you so much for letting me try this job, I truly love it already. And everyone is so great, too!"
"I'm glad to hear it. Well, everyone seems happy, so I guess we can think of making this a long term position for you?"
Emma nodded, happily. It would be amazing! A real job, with no pervert customers, her own pay check and real working hours. Doing a job she actually liked, along with nice coworkers, too!
"Let's give it a week, and see if it still works well for you. You can discuss the details with Aurora since she basically runs this one. I come often, but I just oversee it and only intervene when I'm needed."
"Okay. But will Ruby have to wait for me every time? It's a bit long for her, and Blue has to drive me, too..." Emma couldn't help but ask, but Graham shuck his head.
"That's not for me to decide, princess. Personally, I don't think you're at any risk being here, but we both know how my brother can be overprotective. I would suggest you bring this matter to him yourself, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you."
Indeed. Killian was really stubborn when it came to Emma's "safety", though nothing had happened so far. What was he fearing? Could something really happen? She proved that she could take on an alpha, so who would attack her after that? There was no point, as she didn't even belong to a pack after that! Emma exchanged a look with Ruby, though she didn't seem very interested in the matter either. Was it because she wouldn't disobey Killian? How could Ruby not be bored after waiting for her all day? Emma still felt guilty somehow.
Graham and Emma continued to discuss for a bit longer about her work at La Rose De L'Aube, until it hit 4pm and Blue had come to get them. Emma almost forgot the appointment Blue had got her.
One thing Emma had to admit: she really wasn't use to people taking care of her.
It was like the movies they had watched together, where the lead actress got a total makeover after going through the hands of beauty specialists and put on brand new, expensive clothes. Well, one thing those movies have wrong: it was incredibly long and there was no entertaining background music. Instead, Emma had to stay seated and wait for hours while Blue and the professionals took care of her skin, her hair and her nails. She has refused the massage after the perfumed bath, despite Blues protests. She didn't want to lie there while some unknown lady touched her bare skin! Blue knew all about the old scars Emma had there, too, so why would she try to get her to expose them to some random lady she didn't even know? In the end, Emma had to resort to threatening to call Killian, even Ruby had stepped in to, telling her sister to stop insisting. Blue sulked for a while, until it was time for Emma to move on to the hairdresser lady.
After about two hours, and a dozen products being put on her head, both Emma and Ruby were completely bored. Blue obviously didn't care, as she kept discussing with the hairdresser and makeup artist. How could it take so long to get ready for a date?! Emma knew she had no experience in taking care of herself in that way, but still! She made a silent promise to herself to learn how style her own hair and how to apply makeup from then on.
While Blue was arguing about going for a braided chignon or styling Emma's curls, her phone suddenly rings. With a frown, Blue immediately picked it up. Sitting next to Emma, Ruby, who looked half asleep, let out a sigh.
"That's the Peter-is-going-to-get-scolded ringtone." She whispered. Emma tried to listen in on the conversation, and it did seem that way.
"What do you mean he went to the east territory? Why did he have to go there again?! That makes it three times this month! Three times! I don't care about- No Alec, I'm not going to get him again, I'm busy! Well, find someone else! I'm done fetching that brat! He- No, I don't care! Just send Erik or someone else! So what? He asked for it! Didn't the boss tell him to stop? He got himself into this mess. I'm done with the Purple clan people, let them kick his ass!"
Emma frowned and turned to Ruby. The Purple Moon clan? They were known for their rude behaviour and constant fighting with others. Out of all the other packs, they were the most agitated and ruthless, always looking for someone to pick a fight with. Though, Ruby didn't seem worried and just shrugged. With that and Blues heated conversation, Emma guessed it was a regular thing. She wondered why Peter went to mess with them.
"Why does it have to be me? I said I- No Alec, I told you, let the brat handle his own mess! He- well I don't care, he is not my Alpha! And- so what? You can't let me handle it every time! Oh yeah? And how long do you think this will work? Lissandra is- Oh, shut up!"
They kept arguing for a while, loudly. Ruby leaned into her to explain quickly.
"Blue has ties with the leader of the Purple clan. She almost joined them before we met the boss. Peter often picks fights on purpose with their fighters, so she's usually the one to intervene."
From what Emma knew, the Purple Moon clan had a lot of younger members, but she could never imagine Blue nearly joining such a reckless pack... Well, she supposed the Black Moon clan couldn't be labelled as softhearted, either.
Alec and Blue continued their argument on the phone for a while, but eventually, Blue hung up angrily, with a look of defeat all over her face. Well, she couldn't really say no to her Beta after all.
"I've got to go settle this. Ruby, stay with Emma. I'll be back as quickly as I can."
And with that, she was off, leaving Ruby and Emma alone in the salon, with the very confused hairdresser.
"Ahem... for you hairstyle?"
"Hair down." They both said in unison. Leaving the lady to do her work on Emma's impossible curls, she started playing on same random games on her phone, while Ruby flicked through a magazine. After a few minutes, Emma heard the entrance bell ring. Ruby turned her head like a watchdog, and she followed her gaze.
A young woman entered the salon. She walked up to them confidently, silent as a cat despite her heals. She was wearing a baseball cap, and what seemed like a men's large denim jacket, making Emma think the girl didn't want to be recognised. But despite her disguise, Emma found her radiant. The mystery girl was a bit taller than she was, and had very feminine curves. Once she got closer, she took off her cap, letting out a load of long, honey blonde hair. Emma immediately recognised her amber eyes. The girl brushed her hand though her hair and smiled at them, one hand on her waist.
"Hi, Ruby." She said with a beautiful voice. Emma saw her bodyguard frown, looking a bit annoyed.
"Elena... you're not suppose to be here."
"I know. Are you going to stop me?" She asked with a confident smile. They stared at each other for a while, and Emma wondered what was between them. Ruby did imply that they knew each other, but he seemed to be taken aback by Elena's presence. And Blue had just left, too... Though, Ruby wasn't acting defensive at all, making Emma feel more comfortable knowing Ruby trusted her.
Ruby looked a bit hesitant on what to do now Elena was there. After a long silence, she let out a sigh.
"Okay. You're already here anyway."
She smiled a took a seat next to Emma. How could she act so confidently? She was inside another clans territory! How was she not worried about being attacked? But she just seemed fearless and so carefree, openly smiling at Emma.
"Hi, Emma."
"Hello..."
Emma didn't have a clue what to do in her situation. It was very sudden! But Elena didn't give her a second to think before she started talking.
"So, you recognise me, I guess. Sorry I had to leave suddenly last time. I just don't really want Grey to know that you and I are acquainted."
"Why?"
Elena shrugged, looking a bit uneasy for the first time.
"Personal reasons. Let's just say it would make things a bit more complicated... It made it hard for me to get to you already. Your security it quite tight! Thankfully, your bodyguard here is a friend."
A friend? That's not what Ruby had said, but judging from her embarrassed expression, she guessed Elena was not exaggerating. Elena winked at her, and Emma swore she saw Ruby blushing. How did she actually make the aloof Ruby blush?!
"You owe me one, Elena." She said.
"I know, I know, you big bad wolf. I'll talk to her, I promise."
Emma wondered what and who they were talking about, but before she could come up with a theory, Elena turned back to her, speaking in a soft voice.
"Anyway. I really wanted to meet you, Emma."
"Me, too. I have so many questions for you! What happened last time? How can we be mind linked? I've never done that with anyone!"
"Easy, girl. I know you have a lot to ask, but I can't stay long. And I may not have all the answers you are looking for. First, our mind link suggests we are somehow related, though I'm not sure about the details. When we met on the Red Moon clans turf, I felt it. My wolf reacted strongly to your presence, so I came to your fight against the Alpha to confirm it. That's why I tried the mind link, and it worked!"
"Yeah, I heard you during the fight. And after that."
"Exactly! You did great, by the way!"
Emma smiled back at her, a bit flattered. She loved how natural Elena was while talking.
"Thanks! But I have no clue how we could be related. I just learned that my father was from the Gold Moon clan, but I have no knowledge of my birth mother. All I know is that I didn't inherit my fathers surname. But when we searched for it, Graham said the name Swan didn't appear anywhere?"
"Because that's just your surname. What's your middle name?"
"White?" Emma cocked an eyebrow, totally confused by what Elena was trying to get at.
"White Swan. Didn't you notice that it sounds a lot like a clan name?"
