Now Shannon gets added to this story! I once asked one of the writers for the show on Twitter if she would be on the show, and she said it would be a next season if they get one! I'm glad that we'd potentially see her on screen. She's pretty interesting and I thought I'd take a chance on doing something with her. Since I had Kristy in the last chapter I decided to play with another character dynamic.
T rating for mentions of alcohol and a mention of some pregnancy stuff.
Enjoy and please review!
By the age of 34, Shannon Louisa Kilbourne thought that she would be married by then. Instead she was dealing the insanity of planning a wedding now. As if on auto pilot she ran through everything she had to do for the wedding rehearsal with most of her guests.
"We don't need to use wine for the rehearsal," said the voice of her soon to be husband, Emmett Yearling. "I'd save it for tomorrow."
Shannon smiled thinking about him and then just quietly grew a little nervous. The rich cranberry carpet was being rolled out. An ornate fountain was being set up to greet guests. She smoothed her hair in a silver framed mirror. This was getting fancier then she thought it would be. Then again, she was getting married.
Biting her bottom lip she reached over and took out her notecards. Her husband had invited a couple of his old business partner buddies. This included some of their families such as the Parsons and Ellison family. Before she could Shannon squealed when she saw her sisters coming right up behind her.
"Shanny!" called her niece running forward and hugged her legs.
"Kiersten!" she said picking her up and hugging her. "Do you know how happy I am that you are my flower girl?"
"Yep," she said. "Guess what? A boy likes mommy."
She laughed at that and Shannon blew a wisp of hair from her face. Ahh had to be Emmett's cousin that flirted with everyone regardless. Despite that fact, he was a great guy that kind of needed a girlfriend or someone around to keep him from going overboard.
"I love seeing people's reaction when I tell them that I'm a lesbian," said Tiffany nudging Shannon. She just sighed and smiled at her sister.
"Tiffany," she said nudging up against her sister but hugged her anyway and let Kiersten run around some to let off the steam. Then smiled and turned to the pregnant redhead standing next to her blond sister. Then hugged her tightly happy to see some familiar faces.
"Hi Shannon," said Ashlyn smiling at her.
"I'm glad that both of you are here. I can't wait to meet my little nephew here soon too," she said examining her belly. "Now both of you know what it's like to be pregnant!"
They all laughed some and then settled into small talk. Their sperm doner happened to be someone that they knew and joked around about it for a second. Many guests were at the rehearsal since they had come from out the state or even the country. This is what happened when she moved to London for the first time. She waved to her parents before catching up them and letting them know the plan for the day. She wasn't as organized as say, Kristy, but she was pretty on top of things right now.
After making sure that the candles were placed perfectly, she sat back and looked around the room. Kiersten made a friend. Ashlyn and Tiffany were making out in the corner near the nearly stocked bar.
Maria came with her husband and their kids. Her son Ashton was going to be her ring bearer. She had her eyes trained on one person. OR rather two persons.
It was her parents she was worried about as she watched them. Her mom was near the door ready to bolt at any given moment. It was her dad telling the caterers how the food schedule was going to go. Right now, Shannon was wishing that she didn't let her dad pay for most of it.
"Hey," said the soft voice of her husband.
She swirled around and threw her arms around him and hugged him.
"Hey," she said kissing him softly.
"I just wanted to see if you were okay. I know that it can be hard with your parents here," he said soothingly rubbing her back comfortingly.
"Thanks, I just need a distraction for right now."
"Well I have someone that you could meet. It's the perfect distraction" he said leading her thoughts away as she glanced at her mom.
For the longest time she had worried about her parent's marriage. For awhile there it looked like things were fine but in college it was hard to tell. Then it happened, about two months after Maria graduated from Stoneybrook Day, they announced that they were getting divorced.
Her mom moved out without so much as a word to her dad before getting her own place on Bradford Court. Now she lived next door to Mr. and Mrs. Perkins who had a college aged daughter, Laura, who baby-sat the neighborhood kids. Her dad sold the house before getting a fancy upscale condo in Manhattan. He was the one had insisted on having a much fancier wedding then she had intended. From the corner of her eye she could see a champagne fountain being set up.
Sighing, Shannon just shook her head and turned to the new person in front of her. After about three other business associates did, she finally face the fourth.
"This is Alexander Ellison," he said, "and his wife Stacey."
Shannon turned and looked at the two and smiled. She looked familiar but couldn't really place it as they exchanged pleasantries. Stacey looked pretty nice dressed in a royal blue gown and her hair twisted up neatly. Hmm, she thought, as she looked her over once again before she had to asked.
"Wait Shannon Kilbourne?" asked Stacey brightly recognizing her surname. "I remember you a little. You're friends with Kristy Thomas? We used to be in the Baby-Sitters Club together?"
The tune of It's a Small World all played in her brain momentarily. They shared a long look and started to laugh some. Kristy Thomas was hard to forget. Lucas and Alex shared an amused glance and then chatted between the two of them while Shannon and Stacey caught up.
"Yea I remember going to your high school graduation,' said Shannon. "I saw Kristy, Abby and Anna Stevenson graduate. Anna Stevenson is going to be here at the wedding. She's doing a work thing in Ireland and will be coming by tomorrow. She's one of the three childhood friends I have here along with Greer Carson and Meg Jardin."
Stacey took a glass from a server's tray and they sat back remembering things.
"I remember going shopping together way back when," said Stacey. "Then again I do remember a lot of the clothes that I bought. You're pretty cool we used to hang out on sitting jobs? You know that there is a small chance that we managed to meet again."
"I'm not crazy for math, but I do hear that people manage to meet old friends or your boss could be friends with your next boss. Crazy things have happened."
Crazier things have happened indeed as she glanced at her parents and then at the guests. Her eyes finally settling on Emmett and took his hand grinning at him. Stacey caught up with her daughter trying to sneak a piece of cake.
With a purpose she leaned over and kissed her soon to be husband. They were going to have to start the rehearsal here soon.
