Prompt challenge by lemacd. We were talking about my obsession with this particular song and how I shouldn't be listening to it in front of my children. So she came up with this fun prompt challenge. Silly, fun one-shot. Enjoy!

Trouble

"I can't believe we're being called in for a conference with Johnny's teacher!" Anna exclaimed, as her husband pulled into the parking lot of the school. "He has never gotten in trouble before now. It's probably from you dropping swear words here and there." Anna huffed. John furrowed his brows, taking this all in.

"I rarely curse in front of our son," he stated.

"Yes, but every now and then…" Anna pointedly said, a loud sigh leaving her lips. "The teacher said she wants to discuss what he's been saying at school. It's the only thing that makes sense. The other day you stubbed your toe and let out about three curse words in a row. Johnny watched you wide eyed."

"Right," John could feel the heat rushing up his neck, embarrassed that his behavior had gotten their son in trouble at school. "Well, I'll speak with him after this conference about how we don't use that language."

"Yes," Anna agreed, though her lips curled up slightly and she brought her hand over to rest on top of his. "You will." Then she winked.

The two got out of their car and began to walk into the primary school building. They signed in and then went to Ms. Jefferson's classroom.

"Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Bates, do come in," she kindly greeted them. Anna stepped into the classroom and glanced around at the tiny chairs. Johnny was only six years old and there only appeared to be one large chair at the teacher's desk. But they went over to the small table where the teacher told them to sit. Anna was able to easily sit into one of the small chairs, but John looked like a giant in the chair. Anna had to stifle a small laugh at his expense. She wondered if she could get away with snapping a quick picture.

Her thoughts, however, were brought back to the reality of the situation when the teacher sat in her chair across from them.

"I want to apologize," John began. "I'm afraid I've let my tongue slip a time or two and cursed in front of Johnny. I will speak with him this evening and I will do much better censoring my words."

Ms. Jefferson eyed him carefully, before shaking her head. Then she opened a file and pushed a drawn picture over toward them.

"It was not a curse word, Mr. Bates," Ms. Jefferson explained. "It seems that Johnny has been drawing the girls pictures and…"

Before Ms. Jefferson could continue, Anna let out a gasp.

"Oh my god," she said under her breath, covering her hand over her mouth. It was now John's turn to laugh at her. But he only did it for a moment, before growing serious.

"Yes, Ms. Jefferson, this is definitely not appropriate for our six year old son to be saying to other children."

Anna couldn't believe it. On the picture her son had drawn, it said, "Keely, I burn for you." She was absolutely mortified.

"I have caught him saying this to many of the girls."

"I'm so sorry," Anna quickly stated, knowing this was all her fault. "I don't know how he learned that saying."

"You watch that show all the time and sing that song all the time," John reminded her.

"I have never watched Bridgerton in front of Johnny!" Anna quipped. John just laughed.

"No," he agreed. "But I hear you singing that song under your breath all the time."

Anna shifted uncomfortably in her chair. She did sing the song an awful lot. It hadn't occurred to her that it might be inappropriate for her to sing in front Johnny. He had even asked her what "burn for you" meant. Anna had stupidly told him that it just meant you liked someone.

"Alright, I know the show, but what song are you talking about?" Ms. Jefferson seemed intrigued. "I'll have to admit that I enjoy the show too."

"These two women: Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear are working on writing a musical version of Bridgerton. Their songs are so very good. I particularly like their song Burn for You. I won't be listening to it or singing it anymore in front of Johnny. I promise that I will also explain to him that it is inappropriate for him to say it."

Ms. Jefferson just chuckled. "You'd be surprised the things we hear out of the mouths of the children. Don't be too embarrassed."

Anna was sure that ship had sailed. They thanked Mr. Jefferson for her time and went back out to the car. John opened the door for Anna and she slid into her seat.

"You'll have to watch your words around Johnny, Mrs. Bates," John teased. Anna blushed and hid her face into her hands.

"I can't believe he did that!"

John laughed, shutting the door and walking over to the driver side. He then lifted up Anna's phone, plugged it into the car, before the song began to fill the space.

You burn for me?

I burn….

I burn.. !

I burn for you

I burn, I burn .. for you..

Anna quickly turned it off. John's laughter grew.

"What, my darling, I do burn for you, you know?" He was being cheeky. Anna playfully hit his shoulder.

"I'm never living this down am I?"

"Likely not," John said, bending over and kissing her cheek. "You were the reason our son got in trouble his first year in school. I will always be able to have that in my favor."

Anna chuckled slightly, placing her hand on John's cheek. "But you still burn for me?"

"Always, my darling."

"Good, because I burn for you too." Anna checked her watch. "And Johnny won't be brought back over by the Carsons for another two hours."

"Oh, Mrs. Bates? Are you suggesting we act out a scene from your beloved show?"

"No," Anna said, "Not a scene. We can create our own," she winked.

"Alright," John agreed. Then he turned back on the song and began to sing along, making Anna laugh.

I burn for you

I Burn

Sing my name!

Say I am Yours!

Promise we'll never be oceans apart

Cuz I' burn for you

I burn

I Burn

For me

The End

Also, if you do like Bridgerton and you haven't heard of Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, I highly suggest you check them out. :) Thank you for reading!
