Chapter 6: Welcome to Gotham
"So it's settled then." Superman folded his hands atop the table, giving everyone in the room a look. Batman, Wonder Woman, J'onn, Green Lantern, and Flash all nodded back at him. They were all currently in the main meeting room that Flash started to call 'The Big Seven Clubhouse'. No one but Flash called it that.
J'onn spoke up from the left end of the table, "The League will do its best to accommodate our new guests to the best of our abilities until they find a way home. Help them adjust to our world and its rules"
"Or if they intend to stay."
Everyone was surprised to hear Batman say those words, with Flash raising an eyebrow at the older Bat, "You sure they would stay? They seemed pretty desperate to get home."
"It's no surprise, based on the brief but downright horrifying stories they've been telling us. I can't tell if they are just unlucky, or if alternate dimensions mainly consist of bad realities." Lantern slapped his hand onto the table with a shake of his head.
"That is not very encouraging." Wonder Woman gave Batman a worried glance.
"We can cross that bridge when we come to it, for now, we need to think of where we are going to keep our guests." Batman's abrupt change of topic was welcomed by everyone.
"They can't stay here? Plenty of room and supplies." Flash waved his hand up in the air.
"I just put this place together. It still needs more work done, plus with us initiating the new League in a week's time, this place will be a hub of a lot of activity. Temporarily bunking here is one thing, making it a home is another."
"I would take them to my Ma and Pa's farm in Smallville, but taking care of seven superpowered teens is beyond even my parents..."
"There is no way they can stay in my apartment in Central City. I barely fit there!"
Wonder Woman, J'onn, and Green Lantern all nodded their heads in agreement, in similar situations as Flash.
Everyone's heads then turned to look at the Dark Knight, who everyone knew by now was the alter ego, or the true face, of a billionaire playboy with enough money to make two mind bogglingly expensive space stations. Without anyone knowing about it.
"I would sooner admit that Joker is in love with me than-"
"Bats, he held a eulogy for you and cried when he thought you were dead. He stopped robbing a jewelry store and tried to kill the person he thought killed you. If that's not love, I don't know what is!" A few people around the room shared a chuckle.
"It's decided then." Superman stood, as did everyone else, "We'll have the kids go with Bruce. Don't worry though." When said billionaire opened his mouth to say no, the Man of Steel cut him off, "We'll check in constantly to help you with them. I am sure they will enjoy the company too."
"That's not the probl-"
"I'll go tell the kids the good news!" Flash zipped out of the room, and everyone was not too far behind.
"I'll go check on Zatanna and...Zatanna." Wonder Woman smiled and took a left turn straight out the door.
"I will see if Aquaman and Aqualad need anything." J'onn turned right.
"Thank you for this Bruce." Superman waved his hand over his shoulder, as did Green Lantern who left without as much as a word.
Batman sat there, glaring at the closed doors, "You're going to pay for this, Clark."

"So..." The older Zatanna quirked an eyebrow at her younger counterpart, who quirked the same eyebrow right back.
"What?"
"Don't give me that. Every time you talk about Batman's kid, Robin, you get this suspicious little twinkle in your eyes. And trust me, I've seen that look before. You and Robin?"
The younger Zatanna, not one to easily blush, shrugged her shoulders, "Me and Robin, yeah. It's only been a couple of weeks but we are...dating, I guess? Not sure where it will go but it's been...sweet. He's sweet. Totally different from his brooding mentor."
"Oh, Batman's not that bad. Under all that brooding and scowling, and doing the whole 'I am the night' thing, he's actually quite sweet too. Surprisingly charming." When the older Zatanna saw the younger one giving her a wide eyed look, she leaned back, "What?"
"You...you're...you're dating Batman?" Younger Zatanna nearly stood up right there, her butt slightly off the chair.
"What? No."
"Oh..." She sat right back, "I thought the way you were talking that you..."
"We dated a little bit a long time ago. Got to know each other when he was training under our dad..."
"What!"
Wonder Woman froze as the door opened, looking between the young Zatanna who was standing up and the older Zatanna who was still seated, one leg crossed over the over, an amused grin on her face, "Am I interrupting?"
"Yes!"
"No." Both spoke up at the same time. Both looked at the other. One with an impatient face, the other with a smirk.
"No Diana, you aren't interrupting. What's up?" Older Zatanna stood up as the younger one still looked like she was budding with questions.
Relieved to see that the two seemed to be getting along well, and not arguing, Diana gestured down the hall, "The League concluded our meeting, Flash went ahead to inform the rest of our young heroes but I thought you'd like to rejoin your friends." The Princess look at the younger Zatanna who nodded before turning to give her older self a hug.
Surprised but pleased, her older self hugged her back tight, "Never thought I'd feel like an older sister, but hey, this was very nice."
Nodding her head before stepping back, the younger Zatanna smiled, "Always wanted a big sister. Just never thought she'd be an older version of me. Guess in a way, she might have been?"
Chuckling, older Zatanna slipped her magician's hat on top of her head, giving her younger self a tap on the nose, "I'll be staying in touch kiddo. Seems like it's going to be an interesting year in more ways than one. I'll have Batman tell me where you're staying and come visit. Seems like you could use someone to help teach you advance your magic."
"I would really appreciate that. I've come to realize how...behind I am in my power. I could use some leveling up."
"Trust me kid, you have no idea what we are capable of!"

"You should come to Atlantis, Kaldur. I am sure Mera would be very happy to meet you! Telling her that she has a bright young student such as yourself would make her so proud."
"I would be greatly honored, and am eager to see my home once again sire... However, I have a responsibility to my team and my friends. I cannot leave them during this critical time. Once we have settled down and found more balance, I will come to visit Atlantis if I have permission."
"I will welcome you with open arms Kaldur. I hope you come to visit, and consider this world's Atlantis just as much your home as your world."
Aqualad bowed his head, "Atlantis is my home no matter where I go, my king."
Both Atlantians turned their towards the door as it opened, revealing the green form of Martian Manhunter, "I hope I am not interrupting?"
Arthur stood up, grabbing his trident and tapping it against the floor, "No. We were just finishing up. I had not realized so much time has passed. I must be getting back to Atlantis."
Aqualad stood up as Aquaman turned towards him, shifting his trident onto his hook as he held his good hand out towards the young man, "This has been a most welcomed surprise. I truly hope to see you again soon, Kaldur'ahm. May your journey have smooth tidings until we meet again."
Taking his different, yet valiant king's hand, Aqualad could not help the big smile forming on his lips, "It has been an honor to see you again, sire. I hope to visit Atlantis in the future. It will be interesting to see what is different, just as much it is to see what is the same."
Aquaman gave Kaldur's hand a firm shake before moving out the door, J'onn stepping aside for the man.
Turning back to address Aqualad, J'onn was relieved to see how much more relaxed Aqualad seemed, "I hope you both had a productive conversation?"
Kaldur walked a little taller, with more strength than before, his eyes focused and full of energy, "It was a great reminder of how there is still just as much good in these universes, as much as the bad."

"We're staying at Batman's place?" Miss Martian clapped her hands together, looking every bit the high school girl she was portraying in her civilian life.
"Temporarily." Batman glared at Clark, who mastered the secret technique of ignoring the Bat Glare years ago.
Green Lantern crossed his arms, "The League is going to be starting our expansion in a week or so. With how busy, and not to mention, crowded the Watchtower is going to be. We just can't keep you all up here without people noticing and asking a whole heap of questions. Questions we are not ready to answer."
"Oh this will be so exciting! I haven't really been to Wayne manor properly!" Miss Martian gave Robin one of her sparkling, definitely-not-an-Earth-girl looks that made the Boy Wonder smile back at her.
"You...know who Batman is?" Wonder Woman looked at said Bat who was scowling at everyone in the room.
"Well...we know who everyone in this room is. It became unavoidable after a lot of stuff happened. There were times when we couldn't worry about secret identities anymore, no matter how well guarded they tried to keep it." Kid Flash waved his hand in the air, so similar to his uncle, looking at Robin with an apologetic look.
"Sorry Bruce." Robin gave his alternate foster father a helpless shrug, "There were times when we thought the world was seriously ending or in too much peril to keep secrets. We needed to pool every resource and information we had."
Superman smiled, "We're not strangers to that. We also recently revealed our alter egos to one another. At least those of us who had one. Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and J'onn never really had secret identities to hide. But Flash, Batman and I came clean. We had no choice and were facing a crisis..." The older heroes' faces turned source, remembering the Thanagarian invasion and the betrayal they faced.
"Sounds like there's a story there." Artemis raised an eyebrow, glancing at the rest of the Team.
"Best saved for another time. For now, we should get you all settled in your new home." J'onn turned to look at Batman.
"Temporary." The Dark Knight emphasized the word again, glaring at each and every person there. Most nodded rapidly back.
"Take a Javelin or teleport them there?" Flash grinned at Batman before being interrupted by Kid Flash.
"Teleport? Do you mean use a Zeta-Tube?"
"What's a...Zeta-Tube?" Flash looked at the younger speedster in curiosity.
"Wait, you actually have a teleporter? Like in Star Trek?" Artemis blinked before pressing a hand to her forehead, "I can't believe I said that." She turned and glared at Kid Flash who had the biggest grin on his stupid face.
"As much as I would like to get into a huge discussion about teleportation, Zeta-Beams, and how and why we use one or the other, I am seriously beat you guys. Why don't we talk about this later?" Zatanna stood next to Robin, her hands on her hips.
"Agreed. It has been a long day, and let us not forget that Robin still needs recuperation." Robin winced, ducking his head from the attention everyone sent him before giving Aqualad a look.
"Thanks dude."
Letting out a quiet chuckle, Wonder Woman gestured towards the direction of the hangar, "Why not take the Javelin for today. It seems the teleportation technology is a bit new to you all, so we'll avoid using it for now. From what I have heard, you've all been through quite a lot. It'll be good to relax on your way to Gotham."
The Team nodded, making their way out the door, the older heroes mingling in with the teens and having quiet, random conversations.
"School? You're kidding right?" Kid Flash looked at Superman with his mouth slightly hanging open.
"Well, I mean if you are all going to be here for a while, and follow the laws of our world... You are all legally obligated to be in school you know." The Man of Steel's lip twitched up into a smile.
"We're in a different dimension. We're superheroes on a different world, where we don't technically exist, and you want us, to go to school?" Conner glared at his, he did not even know what to call him anymore. Other dimension clone donor? Other dimension half father? Suppressing the growl that threatened to leave his throat, Superboy crossed his arms as he walked, "No thanks."
"How old are you all? Seems like the oldest among you is barely sixteen." Green Lantern looked at Aqualad, who just nodded his head, "I don't know about your world, but in ours, sixteen is underage and you have to go to school, superpowers or not."
"You've got to be kidding me, you're seriously planning on making us all go to school?" Artemis' voice cracked as her voice reached that high, frantic pitch that she did when she was frustrated.
"Oh I think school sounds like so much fun! Hanging out with friends, cheer leading, running for school president!" M'gann's was practically bouncing on her feet, grinning from ear to ear as she turned to grab Conner's hands, "We go to to the school dance together!"
Really, really, really not wanting to go to school but even more so not wanting to disappoint his martian, Superboy grunted as he looked down, "I guess...it'll be okay."
Kid Flash snorted, holding off a laugh, "You are so whipped..."
Conner glared at Wally, "Like your one to talk."
"Hey! I am so not whipped. Rather, it's the other way arou-"
"You finish that sentence and I swear to god, you won't be the fastest anything ever again."
Seeing the red headed speedster raise his hands in complete surrender with a gulp, most of the heroes shared a big laugh as the blonde archer punched the yellow and red clad boy in the shoulder.

Wonder Woman and Batman sat at the front of the Javelin, Batman manning the controls as they flew over the city of Gotham towards Wayne Manor. Looking out the window to the side, Robin spoke up from the seat right behind Batman, "I suppose it's too much to hope that Gotham is a quiet, peaceful city in this dimension and not a violent den of criminals like in mine?"
When Batman did not bother to respond, Wonder Woman rolled her eyes at the older Bat before turning in her seat to address the Boy Wonder, "I'm afraid not. From what I have seen, and heard, Gotham's crime rate is still pretty high, despite the Justice League doing what it can to stop what crimes we could. It has slowed down a lot when..." Diana stopped, looking at Bruce before looking back at Robin, "When an global incident occurred a few months back."
"You all keep mentioning something like that before. What exactly happened? If it was a global occurrence, there's really no point keeping it from us, right?" Artemis spoke up from the back, where she was reaching out to pinch Kid Flash's cheek to stop him from dozing off.
"Well..." Wonder Woman hesitated before Batman spoke up.
"There was a seventh member of the original League. Seven of us who came together to be the Justice League. Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl." At the mention of Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman tensed. Seeing how angry the gentle Wonder Woman was, the Team each shared a look.
"What happened?" M'gann asked from besides Conner.
"We were betrayed." Wonder Woman spoke with such venom and disappointment, M'gann actually wanted to get up and give the woman a hug, "Hawkgirl was a hero, helping people here and there and worked well with us all. We came to trust her with almost all of our secrets and weaknesses. What we did not know, was that she was an officer sent by the world of Thanagar, to scout out Earth and its defenses. When Thanagar invaded, she betrayed us to them. Our weakness, our secrets, all of it was given to her commander and we were defeated quickly and taken prisoner. We eventually fought our way out."
Batman picked up where Wonder Woman stopped, "Hawkgirl came to see us after our escape, with data about what the Thanagarians were planning. She claimed she did not know the full extent of their plans, which would result in the Earth's complete and utter annihilation. When push came to shove, she chose to side with us."
Seeing the strange look Wonder Woman was giving Batman, the Team could tell there was still disagreement in the League about Hawkgirl. Before any questions, or more commentary could be made, the Javelin started to shake, "We're here." Batman slowed the jet down, taking it in for a landing in a clearing behind the manor.
"Home sweet home..."
Hearing Robin mutter that under his breath, Wonder Woman gave the young boy a smile, "So you live with Batman in your dimension?"
The Boy Wonder nodded his head as he and the Team descended the Javelin's ramp, "Yeah, I guess there's really no point hiding our identities, considering we don't really exist here. Bruce is my foster father. He took me in when my parents...died."
Her features softening, Diana gently placed her hand on his shoulder, "I am sorry to hear that. Is that when you...?" She gestured towards his outfit.
"No, that was a few weeks later. Hard to keep the whole Batman thing a secret when I live in the same house as the man. Plus, Bruce understood what I was going through. He...helped me through things. The anger, the need for revenge. He put me on a good path."
Looking up towards the Dark Knight who was leading the group, a warm smile spread across the Amazonian's lips, "Batman is not the easiest man to understand, nor does he let anyone truly inside his heart. But I know for a fact that he is one of the most kind, and selfless humans in this dark world. He does not yield, does not bend, and does not allow concessions, especially with himself. He is stubborn yet understanding. It is one of the many things that so admire about him."
Unbeknownst to Wonder Woman, Robin's eyes were wide under his domino mask, his mouth slightly agape. Back in his dimension, Wonder Woman was...polite to Batman at best. He was under the impression she did not really like him to be honest but this Wonder Woman. The way she spoke, the words she used, the face she made when she look at his mentor. It was the complete opposite of the cool and slightly indifferent look his dimension Wonder Woman made towards his own foster father. If he did not know any better, he would call it...
Love? Possibly? It was kind of mind blowing.
As Robin was silently dealing with this revelation, Batman led the oddly dressed group of teenagers, plus one Wonder Woman, towards the back entrance of Wayne Manor. Having received a message from his charge and employer, as well as hearing a jet land a few feet away, Alfred was waiting with the door open, his hands grasped together behind his back.
"Ah, Master Bruce. Welcome ho-"
"Alfred!" Still reeling from what Robin thought was a mind boggling discovery, plus the pain killers still running through his system and the absolute horror shows he and his team faced the past few weeks, it was no surprise that the still fourteen year old Dick Grayson temporarily forgot himself when he saw the all too familiar butler who provided comfort and guidance to the young boy in ways that Bruce just never could. The Boy Wonder moved more out of instinct than logic as he grabbed the elderly butler around the waist, giving him a big hug, "Boy am I glad to see you!"
The Wayne family butler looked down at the boy embracing him before looking up at Batman, both his eyebrows raised, "Children sir? Is the League recruiting them so young these days? I do not believe I can approve." Alfred placed his hands on the boy's shoulders, giving him a light pat.
"Sorry Alfred." Robin took a step back, giving the older man his signature grin, "There's a very good explanation for all of this."
"I certainly hope so."
"Everyone, inside. Alfred, I'll explain everything later. For now, call the tailor. Have them bring clothes for the kids. Get their basic measurements." Batman paused for a moment before continuing, "The girls can tell the tailors themselves."
"Right away sir." Alfred slipped back inside, heading for the phone while everyone else shuffled inside.
"A little different but basically the same." Robin looked around the manor, taking note of the different art and decorations this dimension Bruce had and smiling when he saw something similar. The rest of the team were looking around curiously as well, while Superboy just took a seat on some random bench. M'gann sat down next to him with a tired slump, leaning her head against his shoulder and closing her eyes.
Batman turned to address the group, "We have plenty of spare bedrooms. Alfred will get you all situated and show you where everything is. Girls will be separated from the boys." At the boo Wally made, Artemis elbowed him in the stomach while everyone else quietly laughed, "I can't stress this enough when I say, stay in the manor. I mean it. Aside from the fact that you can't be seen coming to and from my manor in any way or form, you are still an unknown quantity in our world. So I am asking you, stay here until we can get everything sorted. Am I understood?"
Aqualad stepped forward, "We understand sir. We have no plans to make trouble for you, or for the League. We would welcome some peace and quiet, and any assistance you can provide us to get home."
Nodding at the Atlantian, Batman gestured towards Kid Flash, "We are going to check the Mother Box that Kid Flash had." When Wally opened his mouth to argue, Batman held up his hand, "We will not tamper with it, and will make sure to treat it with the utmost care. I understand it is your only possible way home. But it is still dangerous technology that we cannot have just roaming around. It will be safe on the Watchtower, and once things calm down, we will have our best scientists help you work on it. You have my word."
Sharing a look with the whole Team, and undoubtedly having a silent telepathic conversation, Kid Flash just nodded at the Dark Knight.
"Good." Seeing Alfred make his way back, Batman turned towards the grandfather clock in the living room, "Alfred will see to your needs. If you have questions for the League, Wonder Woman will answer them." Pressing a hidden switch, the grandfather clock opened up, to the surprise to most of the people in the room. Batman disappeared into it, the clock closing shut behind him.
"Well. That was...a thing." Artemis rubbed the side of her head, looking at Robin who shrugged at her.
"Does Batman have an entrance like that in our world?" Zatanna poked Robin's shoulder.
"Not exactly like that, but we have similarly hidden entrances all around Wayne Manor and even around Wayne Enterprises." Robin purposely did not tell them what those hidden entrances were, much to M'gann's disappointment.
"Oh, we should make hidden entrances to our base!" M'gann suddenly opened her eyes, a big smile on her face but did not move off of her Kryptonian.
"M'gann...almost all the entrances to our base are hidden entrances." Artemis smiled at M'gann, who looked sheepishly back at the archer.
"Oh...right."
As the Team shared another round of chuckles and giggles, Wonder Woman could not help her own smile from forming. Seeing them all act like such good friends reminded her a little bit of the League. It was mostly Barry initiating conversations, but once the speedster got going, he could usually drag anyone but Batman into some crazy subject or another. J'onn was still trying to figure out things about dragons and dinosaurs.
"Gentlemen." Everyone turned to look at Alfred who was carrying a cordless home phone. Some of the teens looked in wonder at the device, some of them not having seen a home phone before. "If you will follow me, I will show you gentlemen to the third floor where you will be staying."
The butler then held the phone he was holding out towards Artemis, who was the closest to him, "Ladies, if you will, please tell the tailor your sizes and what kinds of clothing you wish to have delivered while I take the gentlemen to their rooms. I will be back in a few minutes to show you to yours."
The whole group said their thanks to Alfred, the boys waving at the girls as they followed the man out the living room. Wonder Woman took a seat on one of the recliners, folding her hands in her lap as she stared at the fireplace. Alfred had thrown a few logs into the fire and the glow filled the entire living room, the sun having started to set.
As M'gann took the phone and started stating her order, Artemis and Zatanna took seats on the couch closest to Wonder Woman. Zatanna scooted closer to the edge, placing her elbows on her lap and resting her chin atop her palms, she grinned at Wonder Woman who looked back at the young magician with one eyebrow raised, "Is there something you wanted to ask?"
Both Artemis and Zatanna looked at one another before M'gann joined them on the couch, having hung up the phone. Zatanna then looked back at Diana, a sly smile on her lips, "Well we were wondering...how long have you and Batman been dating?"
Artemis and M'gann nodded their heads, scooting a little closer on the couch so that the three girls were squishing against one another. Recoiling back slightly, Diana waved her hands at the trio, "Oh no, Batman and I are not like that. We are just friends."
Raising both her eyebrows, Zatanna looked back at her teammates before giving Wonder Woman a look, "Really? Because from how we've seen you two look at each other and talk to one another, it doesn't feel like you're both 'just friends'." Zatanna even used air quotes at her last two words.
M'gann piped up, almost bouncing on her seat, "Oh yeah! Like, hello Megan! The way you two sneak glances at each other when you think the other is not looking. Or how your bodies move to the best positions to cover each other when there isn't even any danger. It totally reminds me of Artemis and Wally! Or Zatanna and Robin!"
"Or you and Conner." The three chuckled and giggled, shaking their heads.
Wonder Woman raised an eyebrow, "I assure you, Batman and I do not... Wait. Batman sneaks glances at me when I am not looking?"
Artemis nodded, leaning back against the couch, "Totally. He is very subtle about it but you can totally tell he is checking you out."
Zatanna laughed, "I mean, guys check you out, sure. But Batman does that...what do you call it? Boyfriend looking at girlfriend look every time you talk. You know, the whole admiring and proud look thing. It's cute."
M'gann looked at Wonder Woman with a shy smile, "And whenever you look at him, you sometimes fiddle with your hair or smile for no reason. We thought..." The three looked at the Amazonian awkwardly.
Wonder Woman smiled and shrugged, not really a blushing schoolgirl anymore, "I admit, I have a strong attraction to Batma- To Bruce. I would like nothing more than to, what was it that the outside society called it? "Go out to town" with him. However, I'm afraid Batman is too engrossed in his work, and refuses to let someone be close to him. Especially romantically."
"Why is that?" Zatanna tilted her head at Wonder Woman, who just shrugged her shoulders at the magician.
"Male bravado?" Artemis guessed while M'gann tapped her chin.
Zatanna hummed, "But it's Batman. Do you really think he is the type to get hung up on male bravado and not take a chance? It's got to be something deeper than that. Or at least, not the sole reason."
M'gann pressed her hands together, "Robin wasn't like that at all though, he let you know how attracted to you he was the moment he saw you!"
Zatanna's cheeks did go a little red at that, "Well, he did not outright say it, but yeah. He definitely made it clear that he liked me. Part of why I started liking him too."
M'gann giggled, "Well at least it's not as bad as Wally and Artemis." The martian turned towards Wonder Woman, who was listening to the conversation with amused curiosity, "When they first met, Artemis and Wally could not stand each other! It wasn't until later that they finally admitted they loved each other behind all the insults and deni-"
"M'gann!" Artemis almost shrieked, her voice cracking, "Too much information, too soon!"
Giving her best friend a sorry yet not sorry smile, the Martian patted the archer's hand, "Sorry Artemis. It really was so very cute you know. Robin even started making bets about who would rip whose clothes off firs-"
"M'gann!"
Alfred entered the living room to the sight of three females sharing a laugh while a fourth was trying to smother another with one of the couch cushions.
"Ladies, if I am not interrupting, I will show you to your rooms on the second floor." Turning and nodding at Alfred, the trio got up from the couch, waving at Wonder Woman as they followed Alfred out of the living room.
"Wonder Woman?" M'gann stopped at the hallway, turning to give Diana a smile. The Amazonian turned to look at the girl, "I don't want to overstep but...it seems like you and Batman care a great deal about one another. More than just friends or teammates." At the hesitant nod Wonder Woman gave her, M'gann smiled, "I love Conner, and I liked him from the first time I met him. It took a while for us to become a couple, but it's the best thing that has ever happened to me! And...I just wish it happened sooner. If Conner hadn't made the first move, who knows how long it would have taken!"
Hearing herself babbling, M'gann took a deep breath to get herself back on track, "What I'm trying to say is, I know you are both adults and are much more experienced about these things than me but... If you like each other, and want to be with each other, maybe it doesn't matter who makes the first move. There may be a lot complicated reasons and stuff that make you both hesitate, but... Maybe however you feel about each other is worth it, you know?" M'gann grinned at Wonder Woman, "Conner and I have a lot of issues and problems but we work them out together. And we are stronger for it. Maybe you and Batman are the same?"
Wonder Woman pondered M'gann's words for a minute before she smiled and stood up, walking towards the teen. She reached out, grasping M'gann's hands and squeezing them gently, "Thank you M'gann. I think I have been hesitating too much about this, and it is unlike how I am not only as a warrior, but as me. Thank you for your wonderful words."
Nodding her head rapidly, M'gann hugged Wonder Woman, taking the Amazonian by surprise but making her smile more none the less. She hugged the martian girl back, petting her hair gently.
Coming apart, M'gann turned and ran to catch up with her teammates, waving at Wonder Woman as she left. Diana waved back before sitting back down, looking into the fire with a thoughtful expression.
Oh my, Bruce is in for it now. Wonder Woman will not just back off easily like she did in the animated series, now that someone gave her a reminder.
Hello everyone. This is the author speaking. I wanted to first say how grateful I am that people still seem to be reading. And then apologize for the lack of updates. I will do my best to update when I can.
That being said, starting from chapter six, I decided to try writing little shorts after each chapter. I will dub them, DC Extra! They will be short snippets of adventures that the Team go on as they hop from dimension to dimension. Some of it will be them meeting different DC characters or entering different DC worlds. I will even expand to worlds outside of DC Comics. Will mostly be one shot little snippets of these encounters, so I hope you enjoy!
DC Extra #1
Artemis blew a few stray strands of her hair out of her face before looking through her binoculars, "So why exactly are we guarding some criminal's warehouse?"
"We're not. The detective said he's not a bad guy. Exactly." Robin was looking through his own binoculars, laying prone on the rooftop across from a large, worn down warehouse he and the Team were monitoring.
"Okay. Then tell me why we are guarding a non-bad guy's warehouse."
"The detective asked us for a favor. Her friend has been acting suspiciously for the past few days and she is worried." Aqualad cut in as he stood on a building on the opposite end from Robin, his arms crossed as Zatanna peered through her own binoculars next to him.
"You mean more suspicious than usual..." Zatanna muttered under her breath as she peered left and right.
"Three vehicles approaching. No license plates. Black SUVs. Seems like our targets." Kid Flash spoke in a quiet voice out of reflex, being the one closest to the road.
"Might be. Why else would they be out here? Miss Martian, link us up. Superboy, are you in position?" Robin spoke into his comm. Not a moment later, the whole team felt the familiar tug on the back of their heads, the sign someone was telepathically entering their minds.
We're all connected.
I'm in position.
Aqualad nodded to himself before giving the command, Move in!
The whole team started to move but paused when they heard the roar of an engine. It was so sudden and out of place in this part of town, some of the Team thought they had imagined it when the hum of the engine running filled the air.
Fancy sports car, three o'clock. Crap, is that a civilian or another target? Artemis eyed the convertible driving up towards the warehouse where the three SUVs disappeared into. The whole team watched as the car stopped right outside and what appeared to be a man in a suit hop out.
Civilian or not, we must get to the warehouse and secure it. If they are a civilian, we must protect them. If not, we take them down like the rest. Aqualad was already moving, the Team just a second behind. When they heard the first gunshot and saw the flashes through the windows, they sped up. Kid Flash zipped ahead, running with all his might and practically slamming through the doors.
Skidding to a halt, Kid Flash took in the sight of men strewn around the warehouse. Some were literally thrown through boxes, others knocked out or groaning on the ground, clutching broken legs or arms. There were more than a dozen men scattered around, knives and guns broken or dropped here and there.
Wally whistled just as the rest of the Team joined him, "Someone's been kicking butt. A meta human?" Kid Flash looked at Robin who shook his head.
"No mentions of meta humans in this world."
"Then who, or what could have done this? No normal person can do this, especially by themselves." Zatanna used her foot to poke one of the unconscious men and was relieved to hear him groan. Just knocked out.
"Oh that would be me."
Everyone whirled around, taking fighting stances as a very handsome man stepped out of the shadows, his hands in his pockets and a grin on his lips. The girls especially stumbled a little, feeling their heartbeats quicken at the man's charming English accent.
He wore a full and obviously expensive suit which comprised of a red button up shirt, a dark purple dress vest worn under a black dress coat. The top two buttons of his shirt was undone and his sleek black dress pants extended down to dark leather dress shoes that were not even scuffed. His grin never fell away from his face, his eyes almost glowing with mischief, "Hello hello there kiddies. Isn't it past your bedtimes? Especially with such colorful pajamas you are wearing. Superheroes were so five years ago."
While the girls were half entranced, and most of the others were caught off guard, Robin was the fastest to shake it off. He brought one of his exploding discs up in a defensive stance, his instincts telling him this was no ordinary person, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
"Well that's rather rude. Considering you are trespassing on my property, shouldn't I be the one asking the questions?" The man managed to sound outraged, his hands moving out of his pockets to his hips.
Half of the Team resisted the urge to look down and apologize, while the other half came to their senses and surrounded the man. Having been the one to address the strange person already, Robin kept his focus on the man as he took a step forward, "I'm not going to ask again, who are you and what are you doing here?"
The man let out a laugh, pointing a finger at Robin, "Aren't you a funny little thing. You know this is why I can't stand children. No communication. Fine." The man paused for dramatic effect, his smile turning a little more vicious as he held a hand out towards the Boy Wonder, "My name is Lucifer. Morningstar. And you are all trespassing on my bloody property. Who the hell are you?"
