I know I said that I would be having a break but this came to me and I felt like writing a one shot for Molly and CJ.
-.-
She knew what day it was, a day that people in relationships and marriages get to celebrate their love a bit more extra before everyone went back to speaking their love on Facebook.
Molly used to roll her eyes at people who done that, now she was the sort of person who would put up those gushy posts about how much she loved Charles to which Elvis would put the sick emoji on there. It made her laugh when he started to do the same thing with Georgie, and it was Molly's turn to put the sick emoji up.
This year in February they had had snow and it was still taters outside.
Molly was the first one up and she looked out the window at the snow that was left and how beautiful it had looked. She was lost in her own thoughts about love and how amazing Charles made her feel and how beautiful the Bath house had looked at Christmas.
"Oh dear, it's dangerous that you're thinking" a voice interrupted the silence and her thoughts and Molly looked over at the man still in the bed, his dark curly hair was in disarray but he still looked great.
"Well like I said, my teacher did say if I had half a brain then I would be dangerous" a smile took over her lips and she let the curtain fall back to it's place before she moved over to the bed once more.
She reached over and grabbed the card that she had hidden in the drawer and held it out to him. "Happy Valentine's Day"
Charles looked down at the card and his face fell "Oh, shit, is that today?" he asked and put his hand through his dark curls "With everything that has been happening lately I completely forgot, I am so sorry Molly"
She couldn't stop the flurry of disappointment that that sentence had left in her chest but Molly smiled and shook her head "Don't worry about it" she knew that everything had been crazy over the last few weeks with floods and being drafted in to help people get out of their homes so it was understandable but that didn't stop her from feeling disappointed unfortunately.
"I'll make breakfast" he kissed her cheek and then got out of bed; taking his card with him.
Molly sighed and then slid down in the bed til her head hit the pillow and she closed her eyes up and possibly falling back to sleep for a little while.
The smell of breakfast woke Molly up and she looked over at Charles with a soft smile.
"Will you forgive me for forgetting about Valentine's Day?" he asks her as he sat down on the bed beside her. He pouted his lips and gave her puppy eyes to make her melt.
Molly laughed softly and then looked at breakfast "Well the food makes up for it a little bit" she held her forefinger and thumb up to show just how much it made up for it. Even though she didn't want to care, what was one day compared to all the days they've been together or will have together in the future?
"Now will you forgive me if I say that I've been called in and got to go to work?"
Molly tilted her head to the side and watched him for a moment. She knew how unpredictable the Army could be so she didn't blame him. "Yes, go before I stop you from going" she smiled and kissed him back when he kissed her lips then got out the bed and she watched him getting dressed and she wondered just how the hell she had got so damn lucky with a guy who had such a great ass. "I love a guy in a uniform"
"Oh really" he grinned over at her before moving around the bed and back to her side before he put his lips to hers in a long but tender kiss. "I should keep the uniform long after I've left the Army" he teased after pulling away from her lips and then kissed her again this time it was quicker before Charles pulled away completely "See you later, love you" he called out to her and then walked out the bedroom.
"Ditto" she called out to him and then looked down at her breakfast and took a bite of toast.
It was only when he was outside that he looked at the bedroom window and a smile and trying so bloody hard not to slip on the ice that had formed and driving would be hell but he would be careful, even if that didn't mean a thing to the ice.
When Charles got out on to the main road, which thankfully had been gritted, his phone rang and a smile pulled at his lips when he saw who it was. Elvis.
"What do you want, Elvis?" he spoke out and was thankful for the fact his phone was hand held.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Charlie" the cheerful voice of his friend came across the phone sounding like he was in the car with him.
"I'm in the dog house for Valentine's Day"
The laugh came across the phone and he's never wanted to put his middle finger up at someone before now. That's the fact Elvis found everything he went through funny and right now he wishes he could see him so that he could give him the finger. "It's not funny, Elvis, I don't like being in her bad book"
Elvis cleared his throat to stop himself from laughing again. "Well I'm sure it'll work out, where are you to anyway because I'm waiting for you"
"I had to wear my uniform so I'm going to have to change before I meet you, I told Molly that I had to go in to work"
"It's like you're meeting a lover"
"Or an idiot" Charles muttered but knew that Elvis caught it anyway and it was Charles' turn to laugh this time. "I'll see you in a moment"
"Yes sir" Elvis teased at him before signing off.
"Twat" Charles muttered and then smiled. Charles was pretty sure that he was the only one who could get away with calling him that because they had been mates for a long time.
-.-
Charles met up with Elvis, after he had got changed out of his uniform, and they went shopping because even though he had told Molly that he had forgotten about Valentine's Day, he hadn't. In fact he had been preparing for this for a long time.
Molly was going in to London because her mum had asked her to help her out with the kids but it was to get her out of the way for a while.
In all honesty he was going to propose.
But work and the floods and everything else had just got in the way that he hadn't had time to go out and get the ring and was getting it today; with the help of Elvis of course.
Charles was panicking when he hadn't seen one that he liked and he couldn't propose without a ring and was starting to get a little bit stressed out. Maybe he had left it too late to even do anything about it, maybe there were fates out there trying to tell him something and if he listened to them then he would go insane and it would show Molly that he didn't have confidence in their relationship when he did.
"Charlie" Elvis said after they went to the fifth ring shop "Just get one, she loves you enough to not care about what engagement ring that you get her" sickeningly enough he added on in his brain but that didn't stop him from grinning and as if Charlie could read his thoughts he rolled his eyes at his best friend.
"I just want the perfect one-" he was going to add something else on but Elvis interrupted him.
"There is no such thing as the perfect ring, and even if there were it would be millions of pounds and that's a lot more even for you"
Charles knew that Elvis had him there unfortunately and it made him feel uncomfortable just how well this guy knew him especially when it came to him and Molly. They carried on nonetheless.
It was only when they came to the next ring shop that he found the one that he wanted to get her. It was white gold with a round diamond in the middle and six smaller diamonds on either side of the one in the middle but what he liked most was the writing inside of the ring. Forever and always. Now this was the perfect ring.
Charles got it there and then.
They went and got lunch and once that was over he and Elvis went their own ways and he made Charles promise to text him the minute she said yes. Charles didn't have to change back in to his uniform because of the fact Molly wasn't home anyway. He did stop on the way home to get some roses and a card with some champagne and food because he was going to cook.
He felt nerves sitting in his stomach as he started cooking, putting the champagne away but getting a bottle of wine out.
Charles got a text from Molly saying that she would be home soon and he went and got changed in to smart clothes.
-.-
Molly was glad to be home and once she pushed the key in to the door and opened it she could smell something good and it made her stomach grumble because of how hungry she was. She followed the smell, after shutting the door and putting her coat on the hanger by the door. She found Charles in the kitchen with a table set for two. A smile pulled at her lips.
"Did you honestly think I would forget about Valentine's Day?" he walked around the kitchen counter and then handed her a glass of wine.
"You played me!" she said and then laughed before she looked at the table set up with plates and Molly couldn't explain the relief that she felt at the fact he didn't forget and then took a drink of wine. "What are we having for dinner?"
"My speciality" he watched her and then laughed. "Spag bol" Charles teased at her before he then leaned down and gave her a soft kiss, putting his hand against her cheek; it was cold. But he guessed that's what happened when she had been out most of the day which he was thankful for because there was no way that he would've got away with this if she hadn't.
The ring box was feeling heavy in his pocket.
"I love you" she said looking up at him after pulling away from his lips.
"Ditto" he teased her once more, letting a grin pull at his lips.
"Let me go get changed and then I'll be back down" she took the glass of wine with her as she headed to the bedroom, but first she went for a shower to warm her up even though it was a quick in and out and once in the bedroom she found herself a dress to put on, her dark hair pulled up in to a ponytail.
"Better?" Charles asked her as she walked in to the kitchen.
"Much" she admitted and took a seat at the table.
The food, Molly found out, wasn't spag bol but they had steaks and chips and she was literally foaming at the mouth because she was so hungry and wished that she hadn't drank all of that glass of wine before having something to eat because she didn't go out much nowadays so she was starting to feel a little something going to her head. "It smells so good" she said and looked down at the plate when Charles brought them over.
"Well hope you enjoy" he smiled down at her when he put the plate on the table in front of her.
Molly was sure that she would enjoy it especially when she had been looking forward to eating while in the shower. Charles sat down at the table with her and then poured himself a glass of wine and asked Molly if she wanted another glass and she nodded her head once and held out the glass to him. "Happy Valentine's Day" they clinked their glasses together once he said the same to her.
The food was so good and Charles brought over dessert which looked as good as the meal she had just had; even if it had been a New York cheesecake, Molly's favourite and she might have had seconds of it.
Charles felt those nerves settling in to his stomach again and it didn't help the fact that Elvis had texted him and asked if he had asked Molly yet, a short reply being No, and then slipped his mobile back in to the pocket of his black trousers.
"Well I enjoyed that" Molly sat back in her chair and let out a breath to indicate that as much as she loved the second helping of cheesecake she couldn't do anymore food and that she just wanted to roll up in a blanket and sleep off the food and wine. Molly looked over at Charles who was smiling at her. He reached out with his hands to take hers and she leaned forward and slipped them in to his. His palms felt sweaty. "You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah I am" he admitted and kept his eyes on her for a moment, his hands still in hers before he then slowly let go and got up from his seat. Charles moved over and got down on one knee before digging in to his pocket and pulling the ring box out of it. "Molly Dawes, I know it's probably a little cliche to get engaged on Valentine's Day but honestly I couldn't think of a better day to do it. Will you marry me and spend the rest of our lives together?" he opened the box and showed her the ring.
She was speechless for a moment.
Then finally a smile took over her lips once more as she said "Yes, yes I bloody will marry you" he took the ring out of the box and she saw on the inside of the ring the words of Forever and always and it made her heart feel light when he slid the ring on to her finger and kissed her happily.
Molly had to admit that she definitely didn't see this coming today but more than anything she was so, so, happy that she felt like screaming and stamping her feet and just living in the moment of all of this.
Charles hadn't imagine that when he went on that tour in Afghanistan that he would meet Molly, would fall in love with her and then ask her to marry him, but one thing was for sure...
She was the one.
