Wolfblood
Chapter 7
We play for what feels like hours, but no matter how far out we go, the water depth never seems to rise past my breasts.
I dive under the water again, letting the ocean swallow all sound as I blink my eyes open underneath. The salt stings them, but I ignore that as I swim as close to the bottom as I can manage as I circle around a pair of bare legs stirring up clouds of sand.
Once I'm behind Leah, I surge forward and lightly bite her on the calf. I hear a muffled shout, and a stream of bubbles escape me as I suddenly have to dodge feet that are kicked out at me.
Sound suddenly reaches my ears as I come up cackling.
Colorful curses fall from Leah's lips as she chases after me. I don't make it far, hardly a few feet, before she catches me, wrapping me up from behind.
I throw my head back against her shoulder in laughter. Her arms are locked like steel bars around me, but I don't try to escape. I don't want to. She is really very warm, and I can feel a lot of her bare skin pressed up against my back.
She doesn't seem to know what to do with me, now that's she's caught me, because after I've calmed down enough to just be panting rather than gasps, we are still just bobbing in the gentle waves.
"Now that you've caught me, what are you going to do with me?" I challenge after a moment, smiling at the horizon.
She hesitates a moment, but in the end, she doesn't take the challenge.
"What are these?" she asks instead, one hand coming up out of the water and tracing over the tattoos on my shoulder. I shiver slightly, enjoying her touch. "You like wolves?"
I roll my head towards her to see her expression. "They're my favorite animal," I admit.
Her expression becomes supremely pleased, as she traces her finger over a snarling wolf. "The wolf is a sacred animal to my people."
When she finally appears to feel my eyes, she glances up at me and seems to get caught there.
My lips tick up at this. It feels really good to be able to affect someone in this way, especially someone who I'm actually interested in return. It's not fun to chase someone who doesn't want to be caught.
Well, unless it's a rabbit. Or a dear. Or anything else that might become my supper.
I turn slowly in her arms, never removing my eyes from hers. Eye contact seems to have frozen her in place. She a very pretty eyes, I note. They are a very dark brown that have little flecks of gold near the irises.
Moving slowly, so slowly it's that it's painful, is the opposite of what I want to do at the moment, but I feel like I'd spook the girl if I make any sudden movements. So I force a turtle pace progression as I slide my arms around her neck until my elbows rest on her shoulders, linked at the fingers dangling over the water behind her. I leisurely rise up on my toes so that we are the same height.
Only then do I break eye contact to unhurriedly look down at her pink lips so that my intentions are very clear, if they weren't before.
When her only response is for her hands to clench at my waist, I deliberately lean in the last few inches.
Her lips are chapped from playing so long in the ocean, but they are also incredibly warm, just like the rest of her. Her scent, mixed with the seawater, assault all my senses and cause my heart to race.
She responds beautifully to me. She doesn't just stand there and let me kiss her; she draws me closer, with her hands still on my hips, and kisses me so thoroughly that I very quickly become dizzy as every single one of my sharp senses become wrapped up in her- her warmth, her taste, her smell, the sound of her pounding heartbeat.
When she finally pulls away, I have a hard time catching my breath. I can honestly say that no one has ever kissed me like that before.
"Damn, you're a good kisser," I gasp.
Her chuckle is a low gravelly timbre that immediately makes me want to kiss her again. "I could say the same about you."
I tear my gaze away from her mouth to meet her eyes, and that's like a trigger for us to just start laughing. My arms fall away from her shoulders as she releases me, and I almost reluctantly start swimming to shore.
"Come on," I call, "let's go dry off." With the loss of her arms around me, the water suddenly seems more like the frozen lakes I used to swim in back home.
When we reach our piled stuff, I pause, and then sigh.
"Sorry," I say to Leah sheepishly, rubbing the buzzed hair on the back of my head. "I guess we should have brought towels."
"It's alright," she says with an amused smile. "My house is close by. We can dry off there."
"Are you just trying to get me into your bedroom?" I ask, raising an eyebrow as I collect my sandy clothes.
"No," she sputters, face turning its now familiar flushed shade. It's somehow become even more endearing than when I first saw it.
"That's a shame," I sigh disappointedly, striding past her in the direction I see houses, and grinning when she chokes on nothing.
…
When the afternoon turns to evening, I find myself disappointed that I have to start making my way back to Emily's house. We walk at a slow pace with freshly washed clothes and full stomachs from lunch a few hours before.
The diner that Leah ended up taking me to (after we dried off and did a load of laundry at her house) had huge proportions. Even so, I ordered two burgers and that only seemed to impress Leah.
When we reach the front of the porch, I stop and turn to the pretty girl. The house isn't either of ours, so it seems odd saying goodbye at the front door.
"This is the best first date I've had in a while," I grin at her. It's the best first date I've had ever.
"So, does that mean I'll get another one?" she asks hopefully and with a hint of teasing. After spending an entire day together, she's definitely become more comfortable around me. That is, of course, until my light flirting becomes heavier in nature. You'd think that she was the younger one between us with her shyness.
"You have my number," I confirm needlessly.
Her eyes dart up to the front door and back to me before she takes a hesitant step forward, placing a hand on the side of my neck.
I hold still as she leans down and kisses me softly. It's not near as long of a kiss as I was wanting, but I'll take it. I'm certain that there will be others now.
I beam as she pulls away.
"Well, I'll call you, then," she grins widely before turning and striding quickly away. She seems to quiver a bit at she walks, and I wonder in an affectionate fascination if she might start skipping once she gets out of my eyesight.
My smile just won't be wiped away as I bounce up to the front door and knock.
My brother opens it, takes one look at my face, and says, "Gross. You two did it, didn't you?" My smile gets wiped away.
"No," I scowl. "And even if we did, you do not get to judge me. You are the cub. I am the alpha here."
"Whatever," he rolls his eyes, but I can see a hidden sparkle in them as his lips twitch.
"Did you do your homework?" I ask after he says goodnight to the household, and we go to collect our bikes.
"Uh… race you home- bye!" he calls, leaping onto his bike and pedaling away.
"Hey!" I shout, giving chase. "As soon as we get home, you are doing your homework! Or you won't have supper!"
"I already ate!" he calls over his shoulder.
"Then you won't get breakfast!"
A/N: Hey, sorry for the wait guys. I got stuck in quarantine and forgot to bring my flash drive with this story on it.
Please please please review.
