A/N: So We had some nice Burzek scenes last night, some that we've been waiting since season 2 to get but god was that not enough. Kim shut herself to Adam again but what I loved was the fact that Adam is more comfortable telling Kim how he feels and the communication between the two has been a welcome change from their first go at being a couple. Here's what I needed to happen so enjoy ch 1

He could see it in her eyes. Her walls were up and she wasn't letting him in. He understood what she was doing for Makayla, hell, he was down for it, but he knew that her heart would be broken and he couldn't see that happen again. He watched her leave, he couldn't stop her, but he could do something about it. He knew Kevin was still in the building and he needed his advice right about now. He climbed the stairs two at a time back into the bullpen where he found Kevin finishing up.

"I thought you left with Burgess already." Kevin was surprised to see him back up here.

"Not tonight." He took a deep breath. "Do you have a minute, I need your input on something."

"Sure thing brother." They went in the break room and closed the door. "What's wrong?"

"It's Burgess, I'm worried about her."

"She seemed fine when we talked earlier." He leaned against the counter and crossed his arms over his chest.

"When did you talk to her?" He needed to piece it together before he made his first move.

"A few hours ago, she was asking questions about the Ward girl."

"What did she tell you Kev, don't keep anything out." Adam saw Kevin hesitate and he wasn't sure how it sat with it. "What Kev?"

"Look Ruz, I need you to take a few deep breaths and promise me you won't go off on her for this."

"If you don't spit it out, I might go off on you though."

"She told me she reached out to the girl's mother, the one from the hotel, when she lost the baby."

"God damn it, I thought we were over this." He ran a hand over his face. "What else did she say?"

"It's more about what she asked." One look from Adam and Kevin knew better than to thread that water. "She asked me what I needed when I had to take care of Vinessa and Jordan."

"Damn it, she's really going through with this."

"I kept it real with her though. Fostering a little black girl is not going to be easy or her, or on Makayla. She's going to need all the help she can get so the question is, where do you stand in all of this?"

"I stand that I'm on board if she wants to have her on a permanent basis but she's not letting me in. I could tell that she didn't think I'd be there, even if I told her that it wouldn't change a thing between us."

"You need to stop saying it and do it Adam. I know the two of you are stubborn as hell and I know for a fact that the two of you are meant to be together but if she keeps pulling away and not giving you an in, you have to take it and push your way back in, don't let her push you away."

"I wasn't planning on to, not this time, not anymore."

"Get the hell out of here then.) He chuckled.

"Thanks for the talk." He tapped his chest and ran out.

Kim looked through her rear-view mirror the whole time, making sure Makayla was okay. She had thought about this since seeing her at DCFS but parts of her plan was flawed. She didn't have anything home that was kid friendly, she had barely spoken a word to Voight about this, in Platt's case, she had simply seen right through Kim.

"How about we do a quick stop at the store and get you a few things fun to eat?"

"Okay." She had been quiet for the whole time, looking out of the window. The trip to the store was quiet, Kim offering various things that Makayla nodded to with a smile and they left with two bags full of stuff. Makayla fell asleep when Kim was about ten minutes out and she knew that she'd have to wake her up because she couldn't bring both bags up and her at the same time. She didn't have to worry too long because as soon as she parked in her usual spot and cut the engine, Makayla eyes slowly fluttering open realising they had stopped. In the commotion of getting Makayla and the bags, Kim didn't notice the familiar truck parked in front of her building and she ushered her inside.

"How about I read you a story tonight while you eat a snack and tomorrow we can do something fun together?" She smiled at Makayla but when the little girl stopped in her tracks, Kim looked up to find Adam leaning against the wall in front of her front door. "Adam, what are you doing here?" She stood next to Makayla and waited Adam's answer.

"We need to talk."

"Tonight's not a good time Adam." She walked past him with Makayla to open the door.

"This can't wait, let me help you with that." He reached for the bags but Kim moved out of the way and walked in after Makayla, leaving the door open to let Adam inside with them. He closed the door quietly and put his coat against a chair in the kitchen.

"Let's get you settled in and then we can have a snack." Kim gave Adam a look and disappeared into her second bedroom. Adam wasn't sure what to do so he put away the groceries that Kim had bought to keep him occupied and he decided to get the snack ready. When the girls came back, a bowl of cut up apples with cheese cubes were waiting for them both and Adam was sitting patiently at the kitchen table. Adam was deep in thought and didn't see Kim's surprised look when she laid eyes on the snack. "Thanks for this."

"Sure." He watched her interact with Makayla in silence. He didn't want her to hear what he had to say to Kim, her environment having changed too often already. He was sure Kim was going to be a great mom to her, her numerous dealings with children on cases the proof of that. The silence was awkward but Adam let her do her thing with Makayla and patiently waited. Kim cleared the dishes and placed them in the sink.

"Listen Adam, I really don't think tonight's." He cut her before she even finished her thought.

"I'll wait." He insisted, not letting her get out of a real, god's honest talk. She nodded in defeat and took Makayla to brush her teeth and tell her story, promising to be right outside if she needed anything.

"I'm here Adam, what couldn't wait until at least morning?" She no longer needed to keep it in.

"When were you going to tell me?"

"Tell you what?" She crossed her arms over her chest. She was holding herself in a fighting stance and he knew it wasn't going to end well.

"That you checked up on the victim from the motel?"

"Because it had nothing to do with you Adam."

"It had everything to do with me Kim, it had everything to do with US." He stood from the table and took a step in her direction.

"There is no us Adam." She said defiantly.

"Because you don't want there to be an us Kim." He spat back. "You keep hiding behind your wall, you don't take my input into consideration because you want to believe that it doesn't matter, that losing that baby didn't happen to the two of us."

"It didn't happen to you Adam." Angry tears were now clouding her vision. "I lost the baby Adam, I did." She poked at her chest.

"And I was powerless to stop it. You think that you're the only one that blames herself for that loss? I wasn't fast enough and you lost your chance at being a mom and that killed me Kim. Now you don't want us to date officially because you're too scared to like this version of us. I'm not the same man that I was when we got engaged the first time or the second one. I was trying to do the right thing and I'm trying to do the right thing now too. You didn't ask me what I thought about you taking Makayla."

"Because you're not the one taking her in Adam, this decision is mine and mine alone."

"It's not Kim, but you didn't give me a chance to tell my piece. You said it'll change what we have, what we could have but I meant what I said. I'm never going to be out of your life Kim because I love you and no matter what decision you take, I'll be right next to you, for better or for worse."

"You're not ready for this kind of commitment Adam."

"Stop it!" His voice rose in a quiet anger. "Stop telling me what I'm ready or not ready for Kim. You think I would have stayed with you that night when she wouldn't sleep if I didn't want to be here? You think you're the only one whose heart was taken by her? I need you to tell me what you want from me. I'm right here and I want you to say it." The tear the fell off her cheek put a knife through his heart but there was no going back. When it was clear that she wasn't able to tell him what he wanted to hear, he was going to tell her exactly what he wanted. "I want to give you the proposal, a better one." He took a step closer to her. "I don't want to give you a wedding in a bad banquet hall because you deserve better than that." He was now in her personal space. "I'll give you babies, as many as you want." He cupped her cheeks with a soft smile. "And we'll start with the one that's sleeping in the room next door." He rubber his nose against hers. "Then I'll give you the house." He rubbed the pads of his thumb against her wet cheeks. "I'll even give you the mess, hell, I'll give you chaos every day of our lives." Her soft chuckle made him laugh. "I'll give you the whole, my whole." He finally leaned down to kiss her softly. "Just tell me that you want those things with me and we'll live this not so perfect life together."

"Okay." She choked out. "You're crazy but yes." She rested her hands on his wrists and pushed herself up to kiss him again, this time with more assurance, giving into him. They were interrupted by sniffles behind them.

"Hey sweetie, are you okay?" Adam still had his hands on her cheeks when Makayla came to wrap her arms around Kim's waist.

"I had a bad dream." Adam traded a glance with Kim as he let his hands fall, one of them coming to run against Makayla's back.

"How about I go chase those bad dreams away?" He lowered himself to her level but she tugged on Kim's hand.

"Do you want me to come with you too?" She simply nodded but let Adam scoop her up in his arms and the three of them went to her room. Adam made a magician out of himself and made all the bad dreams leave the room while Kim tucked her in.

"Don't forget your platypus." Adam picked it up from the floor and tucked it in with her. "Sweet dreams Makayla."

"Good night." She closed her eyes and they watched her from the doorframe for a few minutes before returning to the kitchen.

"Stay with us tonight?"

"I'm not going anywhere as long as you want me here."

"Good." She pulled him towards her room, feeling completely exhausted. She stripped to her panties with a t-shirt while he did the same and he slipped in the covers, pulling her to him. "I don't deserve you." She whispered in the dark.

"I tell myself the same every damn day." He kissed the top of her head.

"I love you Adam."

"I love you too darling." He tilted her head up and kissed her goodnight. She snuggled into him and they fell asleep like that, finally on the same page.

A/N: So Adam pushed back, showed her that he wants everything with her and won't compromise this time. Let's see how this evolves. Please take a few seconds to review before you go, your thoughts mean the world to me - Sarra
