The train rumbled along, rattling, buzzing with life and noise. Or so she assumed. Eden didn't really know. She never knew. Still, she found the silence of her daily life boring. How ironic. Eden surveyed the car, eyeing a girl maybe a year or two younger than her. She had earbuds in and was scribbling in her notebook. Eden tried to guess what kind of music she was listening to, rock maybe or perhaps she was more of a classical fan. That was it, certainly. The girl had calluses on her fingers, and she held her pencil like a violin bow.

Eden was great at noticing things. It was her only entertainment in this deaf world. She was honestly a pretty girl. She had chocolate brown hair swept up into a ponytail, her bangs cut diagonally so the left side brushed her eyebrows. Her ponytail curled like a pigtail and bounced when she moved, and no matter the place or the circumstance she was always wearing her headphones. The familiar weight brought her peace no matter the circumstance. Even if she would never hear another rock song pounding in her ears, or a gentle love ballad that made her wish she was old enough to . Heavens above, what a terrible idea. Love bound you to something you were going to inevitably lose. Still, a lonely eight year old might love the idea of someone sweeping them off their feet. The problem with being in someones arms, is that eventually you have to fall back down. You can't fly forever.

Eden shook her head to clear her thoughts. She didn't want to miss her stop again, the last time that happened she missed dinner and Mrs. Ray yelled at her again. Right as she considered this the train hit her stop, and she shuffled off the platform. It was a crowded station and she pushed her way through the wall of bodies, but even at five foot three she couldn't see to the stairs. So she couldn't hear the commotion before she pushed through the crowd and saw it. /p

The deaf girl looked down at the bottom of the stairs to see a small body laying there. As if she was viewing a movie that had suddenly muted all noise she surveyed the crowd. They looked like they were screaming, she tried to read their lips and caught the words off of a man just to her left. "That man up there pushed her!" Eden spun and saw a villain waving a gun at the crowd to keep them back. There were no heroes on the scene yet, and the villain had a hostage. She looked around desperately for anyone who could do something about this, when she looked back down at the fallen girl. She looked straight at Eden and cried out "Please help my brother!" Eden looked up at the hostage, and saw a boy who was almost identical to the girl. Eden cursed herself for missing that.

Just then, she saw the villain reach into his pocket and the world blurred. She flew up the stairs, reaching into her own pocket to grab the small knife she always had on her person. And just for a moment, her eyes glowed and her steps left a trail of glowing light. She dove at the man, quickly disarming the man with precision ripping the boy away from him and throwing him into the crowd. The villain fell to the ground, my knife to his throat. I held his gun in my other hand.

"The crowd gasped and screamed but Eden caught none of that (being deaf has its perks). She gasped for breath, and her shaking hand held the switch blade and inch away from the aslant. A hero burst through the crowd, and as if waking from a spell Eden jumped of the villain. That was when they saw it. A small bomb that had slid out of the villain's hands when Eden knocked him over. He was going to kill himself and everyone around them in an explosion.

Eden stared at it, and suddenly red filled her vision as the ringing sound of explosives filled her head. She lost her balance and fell over, hyperventilating. The hero cuffed the man and turned to her. Surprise rose in his eyes as he saw that a fifteen year old took down a suicidal villain.

Pain rose in Eden's breast, and she could barely breathe. The ringing was filling her head and she no longer knew where she was. She mentally cried out for someone to pull her out of this heat.

Suddenly, she felt her headphones being placed on her ears. The sensation tied her back to reality, and she took five shallow breaths before her vision cleared. As she spun to see who had put her headphones on her, she realized that the hero was talking to her. She gave up her search and turned back to the hero. He was asking her if she was okay, and set his hand on her knee. Eden slapped it off and stood up. She spun around and walked away, hoping that the hero wasn't going to follow. Mrs. Ray em style="box-sizing: border-box;"really/em wouldn't like that. Besides, she was late enough already and she couldn't miss curfew again.

Plus it was pasta night.
