Travelling Happiness

Brock let out a heavy sigh of relief as he walked through the streets of Mauville City. For the whole of the journey his mind had been a mess of memories all about the times that he had travelled with Ash. His current travelling partner was the total opposite of Ash, the only thing that the two had in common was that they both wore a hat.

"Walking the streets of Mauville City and travelling around brings back memories," Brock said as he eyed his female travelling companion with hopes of drawing her into a conversation. "I really have missed not being able to travel around exploring regions and seeing new people and Pokémon."

Brock watched as Leaf, his travelling companion, simply nodded her head silently and continued to walk besides Brock. Her long brown hair flowed behind her like a waterfall in the summer breeze as she stared ahead with unblinking brown eyes towards their destination, the Pokémon Centre. The next few moments were filled with tension as the pair silently walked along the pavement only for a voice as soft as the whispering wind to draw Brock's attention.

"This is my first time out of my home region, I have no memories to think back on besides those of travelling in my home region," Leaf said as she moved her bag slightly so it rested in a more comfortable position. "You have travelled through many different regions?"

"I have, I have gone on several amazing adventures and seen many strange and rare Pokémon with my friends," Brock said with a relieved smile, with how big Mauville City was there was sure to be a queue at the Pokémon Centre and a conversation would help to pass the time. "I have travelled around many different regions with many different friends but the one thing that has never changed is that I always end up travelling with Ash and his Pokémon partner, Pikachu."

Leaf nodded her head. "You have mentioned this Ash many times before."

"I have, I thought that as a Pokémon trainer yourself you would like to hear about a strong trainer and all about different sorts of Pokémon," Brock replied as he glanced to the Pokémon Centre that was now only a few minutes' walk away. "I am sorry if I thought wrong. I should of asked you if were interested in hearing about my memories of-"

"I enjoyed listening, I would like to hear more," Leaf said suddenly, cutting Brock off. "It was nice to hear another person's voice. I am so used to travelling by myself that I have found it is nice to listen to you go on and on."

Brock blushed and rubbed the back of his head. With Leaf around he was starting to understand what it was like for Ash when one of their female travelling companions called him an idiot. At the thought of females Brock's eyes widened and he shot Leaf a pointed look.

"Why are you travelling with me? Why have you come this far with me for?" Brock questioned as he remembered his attempts at wooing Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny and every single female, single or not, that crossed his path. "Have you not heard that-"

"You are a womanizer?" Leaf deadpanned causing Brock to groan at her.

"I can't help it! Those females are amazingly beautiful! I remember each and every one of them every night before bed," Brock groaned out, clutching his head in his hands. "I cannot help but to be attracted by their amazing good lucks and-"

"You talk about your memories a lot," Leaf said blankly, she was by now rather unaffected by Brock's little dramatic moments. "Why?"

Brock froze and turned back to Leaf. "Because travelling with Ash...they were such happy times, I had never felt so carefree. I can still remember the very first moment I stepped out onto the open road with Ash. I had never felt so free in my life, I can still feel the breeze through my hair and remember how my heart filled with joy. It's a pity that I had to stop travelling, if I could I would still be travelling around different regions with Ash just like old times."

"But you have your duties as a gym leader and your training to become a Pokémon doctor," Leaf deadpanned causing Brock to groan. "At least you have your memories, maybe one day you could find your friends and this Ash out and go travelling together. Reliving your memories and enjoying the chance to relax and do things that you did not do before because of the gym battles."

"Ummm...that is a good idea Leaf, it would be a great chance to catch up and remember old times," Brock replied thoughtfully as he thought about Leaf's suggestion. "It is a pity that Ash could not join us for this trip."

Leaf simply nodded her head in agreement through she could not help but feel relieved that this Ash person had not joined them on their journey from Pewter City to Mauville City. From the many stories that Brock told about him and Ash going on Leaf was not sure that she would be able to keep up with the pair. Secretly she hoped that Brock would relieve his memories without her.

"Did I tell you about the time that Ash, Misty and I washed up on New Island? Or how about the time Ash, May, Max and I met a legendary Pokémon?" Brock asked hyperly while ignoring the looks he was attracting, he had long since gotten used to them.

"Would you not prefer finding Nurse Joy?" Leaf asked weakly, feeling overwhelmed slightly, as they walked through the Pokémon Centre's doors only to let out a weak groan at the sight that met her.

Pokémon trainers littered the reception area of the Pokémon Centre, some of them were sitting down looking after their Pokémon while others sat or stood in groups talking to other Pokémon trainers. Trying to find Nurse Joy so she could escape Brock's ramblings, he was starting to sound like an old man in Leaf's opinion, only to find her only hope of escape lost when she spots the large lit sign above the emergency room showing just where Nurse Joy is.

"You know...this reminds me of a time that I came into a Pokémon Centre only to find that the Nurse Joy was sick," Brock said as he eyed the large ground before taking his large backpack off. "Leaf...do you think that this Nurse Joy would mind some extra help?"

"With how much work she has to do all day and night properly not," Leaf answered as she carefully eyed Brock who was now kneeling on the floor and unzipping his backpack. "Why?"

"Have you forgotten that I am training to become a Pokémon doctor?" Brock asked, rolling his eyes as he pulled out of his backpack a familiar white doctors coat and the medicine box from his bag.

"While it is a good idea to help out do you even know how to handle the machines here?" Leaf asked, torn in two. "I know from your continues rambling about your memories that you can back in Kanto but what about here? Aren't things going to be different?"

"Properly but not too much, the basics will be the same plus I bet that there is a Chansey or two in the back who would be willing to help me out after they have finished healing the Pokémon they are working on," Brock replied calmly, understanding Leaf's worries. "Do you think you could stay here and wait for Nurse Joy or a Chansey to appear? I need to find somewhere to work."

"If I remember right there should be a private side room for emergences linked to the reception. Why do you not just use that?" Leaf asked thoughtfully as she looked around the reception area for the door. "I remember that Kanto Pokémon Centres normally have them and I saw one in the last Pokémon Centre had one..."

"Umm...it seems that we are going to have to trust our memory about Pokémon Centres in the Kanto region and work from there," Brock said with a nervous laugh. "You know what? I should know all about Hoenn Pokémon Centre's after travelling around the region with Ash and the others."

"You have done a lot and experience a lot since. Do not worry about not remembering, I will help," Leaf replied with a determined glint in her eyes. "Maybe it would be quicker just to find those who Pokémon need a quick glance over or a small plaster on them? You could be treating them and making the amount of Pokémon trainers smaller for Nurse Joy while I look for the private room."

"Good thinking," Brock agreed as he looked around the reception for his first patient only to spot a Vulpix with a sprained ankle sadly snuggling into its trainer who was holding it protectively. Unable to help himself as memories of his own Vulpix came to mind Brock found himself choosing his first patient. "If we can get people to move I will set up on the seat over there."

Leaf nodded her head when she spotted the sofa like seats that rested against the wall for Pokémon and Trainers to sit on. Waiting for Brock to stand up and get himself sorted out Leaf began to mentally go over all of her experience with other trainers as she tried to think of a way to get the small group of Pokémon Trainers to move.

"It will not be easy, especially since it looks like they have injured Pokémon too," Leaf said as she spotted the worried expressions on the group of Trainer's faces. "Maybe...do you think you should check on their Pokémon first? It might make things a lot easier and get rid of a group from the Pokémon Centre."

"You are right Leaf," Brock answered as he put his white doctors coat on and tried to push his memories of his own Vulpix out of his mind. He had a job to do. "Do you mind acting as a bodyguard for me? I have a feeling that when everyone realises what I am doing things will get a bit wild. If I use my own Pokémon I have a feeling that things might get a bit rough and I will have more injures to heal...my Pokémon can be a bit protective of me at times."

"It is the same for all Pokémon and their Trainers, it is the special bond we share," Leaf said with a small smile as she lovingly gave the Pokeballs around her waist a small touch. "After we have been through so much together..."

"True Leaf. You are right and you really know your stuff," Brock said with a smile as he picked up his backpack and stood next to Leaf. "So are you ready to heal some Pokémon and be a bodyguard?"

"I am, I can also do crowd control," Leaf replied as she took one of the Pokeballs from her belt, pressed the centre button and allowed her hand to adjust slightly as it grew in size. "And I know just the perfect Pokémon to help me do so."

"Thank you Leaf but remember that we are trying to heal Pokémon and reduce the amount of work for Nurse Joy," Brock said calmly, he had a feeling that this little adventure would be one to remember. "Just think...after today we can both reminisce about this adventure we had."

"That is good news, it will be a new memory for you to tell me all about. I had memorized all of the other stories you told me about with how often you tell them," Leaf said before throwing her Pokeball and letting her Pokémon out of its Pokeball. "Alright, time to help out! Come on out Jiggly!"

Brock watched as a happy Jigglypuff appeared in a flash of red light. Without realising it Brock smiled in understanding as he realised just what Leaf's plan was. Brock made a mental note to hide any possible permeate marker pens from Leaf's Jigglypuff.
