Eri P.O.V.
That night I wasn't so tired, more afraid to sleep that all I could think was HIM. As I set up and crawled out of bed, I began walking out of my room quietly so that I wouldn't wake anyone. I wanted to get some fresh air and maybe stay outside for a little while. As I opened the heavy doors to head outside and sit down under the stars that looked so pretty when they twinkle.
"So pretty," I mumbled.
"What are you doing out so late?" I heard a deep voice turning my head to see Hiei standing there.
"I...I wanted fresh air." I replied.
"Hn, can't sleep?" He asked.
I slowly shook my head in response as I clutched my knees together over my chest. Hiei sat next to me as I watched the stars in the sky.
"What are you doing outside?" I asked in curiosity.
"Nothing. Don't ask." He spat.
"Sorry," I mumbled looking away sadly.
I felt arms wrapped around me to bring me in a warm embrace as I glanced up to see Hiei was hugging me.
"You're gonna catch a cold if you stay out here any longer." He said, causing me to fluster a little of his actions that he embraced me holding my small form on in his arms.
We stayed like this for a while as I spoke up, "Hiei?"
"Hn?" He grunts.
"Can I get to know more about you?" I asked looking at him curiously.
"Why do you want to get to know more about me?" He asked.
I shrugged, "You said you travel a lot. I-I want to know where you've been to that I want to see."
"Why?" He asked.
"I...I don't know anything about the demon world or what's out there. Is it dangerous?"I asked as he rested his head on top of my head.
"Yes, the demon world is very dangerous for a little girl who will be killed by other demons." He said boldly.
"C-Can you tell me about it? Not the killing parts, but your adventures." I pleaded.
He looked down at me a little surprised that I asked him to tell me stories. He agreed. Hiei told me some places he traveled on his own and fought through his way to survive. I was in 'awe' to listen to him sharing some tips that I should do this and not do that unless it's serious.
"It's getting late. You should go back to bed." He said, releasing me out of his warm touch as I reached back to him, causing his eyes to scan down at me. "What?"
I bit my bottom lip, "C-Can I sleep you tonight? I-I'm scared of what'll happen to me."
I was waiting for Hiei to say "No" but he surprisingly said "Yes". Hiei picked me up and walked with me to his room as he shut the door behind himself to set me down on the bed as he wrapped the covers over us.
"Go to sleep. No one isn't going to take you." He said facing away from me to snuggle under the covers as I pressed my face against his back which was warm as darkness took over me.
Hiei P.O.V.
I was fast asleep resting my eyes after staying up with Eri gazing up at the stars. I don't know why I let her sleep with me tonight. She said that she was scared that something would happen to her. She could have slept with one of the others but I guess it's okay.
About 3 hours had passed and it was 3 in the morning, I woke up to hear whimpering as I turned my head around to see Eri was having a nightmare of some sort. I could hear her saying "I'm not a curse." Or "I don't want to kill anyone." What was she dreaming about?
The only way to find out was to use my Jagan Eye as I faced her straight up to see what she was dreaming about. As My eye glowed, I found myself pitch black as I heard Eri not too far up ahead as I came to a door that was ajar as I peeked inside. My eyes widened to see Eri sitting in a chair strapped down trembling as her arms were covered in blood. Two people were standing there. I couldn't tell who they were at all because they were so blurry.
"I think she's at her limit." The person on the right side.
The person on the left spoke up, "Well, back to square one." He reached out a hand which I remember seeing Yusuke or Botan would do to her made it scary. She didn't like that.
"No...Please…" She whimpered.
I then left out of the dream to stare down at her small form that was now calm. My eyes stared down at how painful it was for her to be in that situation with no one to help her.
"Eri…" I whispered.
As I lay back down this time I held Her in my arms that she felt so small to hold. I never held anyone like this and it feels so weird that it felt so right. I felt safe with her in my arms that felt...so warm.
'Now, I understand why you won't smile.' I thought. 'Whoever did that to you is someone that I have to kill.'
I want to make Eri happy.
I slept for about 4 hours until I woke up before anyone else like I normally do. Eri was still asleep as I crawled out of bed to change and take a morning shower before I left. On the way out, I happened to meet Yusuke this early.
"What are you doing up this early, detective?" I asked.
"I should be asking you the same thing." He said with a cocky grin on his face.
"I'm only going to patrol the city," I replied.
"Right. I have to take Eri to the hospital." He replied.
"What for?" I asked.
"Just a check-up to make sure nothing isn't wrong with her. Ya know?" He shrugged lightly.
'Oh, I know, alright.' I thought.
"Well, she's in my room when you wake her up," I replied, walking past him to leave the temple.
"Wait, she's in your room?"
"Yes. She wanted to sleep in my room and I let her."
"Oh, okay. Thanks for letting me know." He said with a small smile on his face.
'I just need to get away for a while, maybe I will ask her about the nightmare she had.' I thought as I vanished to head out on patrol to see if I continued the mission of whoever is trying to free the demons to spawn into the human world.
