The Doctor Disease
Ever since last night, Eri slept with Hiei which she felt safe and warm against his touch. She opened her eyelids to see that it was already morning and Hiei was gone. She sat up and heard someone open the door to reveal Yusuke with a small grin.
"Hey Eri, I'm glad that you're up." He said with a wide grin on his face as Eri still had her stoic expression.
"H-Hi." She whispered.
"Well, let's get you ready for today. We have to go somewhere and it shouldn't take long." Yusuke walked over to Eri and picked her up, carrying her out of Hiei's room to set her down at the table with a plate ready for her.
"You better look after her, Yusuke. Children can run off and it's hard to keep track of them." Keiko said.
"Relax Keiko, she isn't going to run anywhere and she seemed to be a good kid." Yusuke pat Eri's head gently with a warm smile on his face.
"She hasn't even smiled at all since we've brought her here," Kuwabara said.
"Yeah, I know." Yusuke softly sighs.
"It takes a while for someone who's been through so much to get over. I can tell that her spirit energy has a lot to do with it too." Genkai spoke up as she stood next to Eri with a stoic expression like hers as well.
"I wish we can do something to get Eri to smile," Yusuke mumbled.
Hiei was in the forest laying against the tree after he did his patrol around the city. He thought about what he did with Eri to comfort the young child from the nightmare she had that was unbearable. He did share his past with her and somehow became more sincere with her than he was around anyone. It just didn't seem right when Eri told him about her torture of the blood loss she suffered through and how Toguru held her captive. Today he overheard Kurama insisting Yusuke take her to the doctor to check her up and report back. Maybe they might learn something about her and more of her spirit energy which was incredibly strong that she was capable of anything.
"Come on you old hag, we're going to be late," Yusuke said.
"Call me old hag once again and I promise you I will shut that damn mouth of yours myself," Genkai said glaring at the detective as Hiei looked over to see Eri wearing new clothes except it did reveal the bandages.
Eri wore a bright yellow shirt, red overalls which had a skirt that had a pig on the front, she wore red socks and white shoes.
"Whatever, we better get going now," Yusuke said, taking Eri's hand as they walked out of the temple together to head downtown to the hospital to get Eri's appointment over with.
Yusuke P.O.V.
This wasn't exactly my idea, to begin with especially when Eri is going to be taken to the hospital to have their first appointment there. Keiko has been bugging me about it and she was right. But I'm only worried about how Eri will be when we take her down to see the doctor.
"That face is making me feel concerned all of a sudden," Genkai speaks up to break out of my thoughts.
"Huh? Oh." I said rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly. "I-I'm just worried if everything goes well for Eri."
"She will be fine if you don't stop making that face. Maybe she wouldn't be scared." Genkai said with a stoic expression as I glanced down at Eri giving her a reassuring smile.
"Everything will be fine," I said.
We weren't the only ones going to the hospital either when the two psychics' Kido and Yanagisawa were coming with us too since we dealt with a mind reader yesterday named Murota that mind-read humans. He should be at the hospital after he was shot when he was giving us information about the other psychics.
"Say, after we're done with your appointment Eri. How about we get you a treat?" I suggested with a wide grin on my face.
"Okay." She said in a squeaky tone.
Just as we turned the corner some tall figure came around the corner as we bumped into each other.
"Uh, sorry about that. I didn't see you there, sir." I said to the person that I bumped into quite taller than me.
The male figure seemed to be in his late 20s, a tall, broad-shouldered, long-limbed man with tan skin, an ovoid jewel in the middle of his forehead, and a rather long neck. He normally kept his hair slicked back, with a bang arching slightly over his forehead. He wore a casual long-sleeved gray shirt, dark gray jeans with a matching black belt on his waist, and matching shoes making his outfit shades of gray. Though the unusual length of his limbs gave the illusion of a slender build, on one occasion after he lost his shirt it was seen that his torso was quite muscular.
"No, it's fine. I didn't see you either. I apologize." He said in a deep tone as he glanced down at Eri. "Oh, you have a kid too?"
I sweatdropped, "Not mine exactly. Just a friend." I reassured as I felt Eri tighten her hand in mine as the man nodded.
"Oh, I apologize. She's quite a cute girl if you ask me." He said, narrowing his eyes at her as I let out a fake cough.
"Well, I think we should be going now. We have a very important appointment for her." I said as we walked past him trying not to hold us up because we still have an important job to do.
We reached Daikyo hospital where Makura is and it's the place for Eri to have her check-up. I went up to the front desk to sign Eri up while we were going to discuss with Makura about the other 7 psychics.
"Eri?" The nurse called.
I took Eri's hand to escort her to the nurse and crouched down, "Hey, you'll be okay. We will be right here waiting for you when your appointment is done. It shouldn't take that long." I ruffled her hair carefully avoiding the horn as she nodded.
The nurse took her by the hand to escort her to her room as Eri glanced back at me as I waved at her. My attention back to Makura as he explained to us about the 7 other psychics: Game Master, Black Angel, GateKeeper, Sea Man, Doctor, Sniper, and Gourmet. These enemies had extraordinary abilities besides the man that approached us, we had no clue what they look like.
We had to stay alert until we sensed something was wrong and I knew it wasn't Eri. Something wasn't right. There was something in the hospital that became infested with bugs that Koenma told us about.
"You feel that?" Yanagisawa asked. "Someone opened up their territory."
"So, there's another psychic like us in the hospital," Kido said scrunching his face.
"Dammit. I knew I picked the wrong day to take Eri to the hospital." I groaned.
"The doctor one! We're inside the hospital." Mukora said. "Of course he'd be here! He's coming to finish me off!"
"Make a circle, facing outward," I demanded. "We won't let this one sneak up this time."
We formed a circle outward, but what we didn't expect to see were the insects inside of the hospital! They were spreading around to infest other civilians, so we had to take out as many as we could. It was no use trying as we split up to defeat more of them and a few minutes later, I heard something going on in one of the doctor's rooms to see Kido on the ground covered in blood and he looked paralyzed.
"Kido, what happened?" I asked.
He doesn't say anything only grunted as I saw him using his psychic ability which was a shadow to write the person's name in blood. He wrote the person's name down that read "Kamiya" all eyes were on the doctor standing in the far back as he killed every single doctor in the room.
"So, you figured out. Very clever." He said with a devious grin.
"You sick bastard! So, Makura was right. You're the Doctor that is one of the members of the 7 psychics, right?" I demanded.
"Indeed I am." He grinned. "Be mindful that I am spreading the insects around the hospital, your friends won't make it out alive."
'I better defeat this guy up. Eri is in one of these rooms and this doctor's appointment was a complete disaster.' I thought.
In the middle of the fight, he claimed the killing was "like a narcotic," and he needed to continuously kill to block out the feelings of guilt. This suggests he may not have been as heartless as he appeared and may explain why he renounced his murderous ways. The disguise is effective to an extent and I proceed to smash Kamiya down to the ground. After being knocked out. I thought I killed him which I was relieved I didn't when Genkai healed him.
"Now, I need to find Eri." I ran through the hospital to find Eri as I checked every room to find her in.
There was one last room that I hadn't checked as I entered inside to see Eri sitting on the hospital bed just patiently waiting. I ran over to quickly pick her up and rushed back to the others fast.
"Thank goodness you're safe." I sighed in relief. "This appointment was a terrible idea."
We made a quick run out of the hospital in a flash leaving Kids behind with Kaito to make sure his wounds get better. Eventually, I did remember to give Eri a treat which was ice cream and she wanted chocolate so I got it for her.
"Worst doctor's appointment ever." I sighed.
"Well, at least she wasn't hurt," Botan said, trying to lighten me up.
"Yeah, I guess so." I shrugged.
"PUU!" My spirit bird flew around as Eri looked at him clueless.
"Oh, that's right. Eri this is Puu he's my spirit egg that hatched." I introduced Puu to the little demon girl as she tilts her head to the side. Adorable~
"Hi Puu." She greeted me.
"PUU! PUU!" Puu chimed.
"I think he likes you." I chuckled.
She continued to eat her ice cream cone and pet Puu on the head as I kept a happy expression on my face.
I'll get her to smile...one way or the other.
