Episode 7: Detention
Abby Morgan is a freshman at Capeside High. She comes from a rich family. Her father is a well known business man in Capeside. Her mother is also a well known fashion designer. Abby always dreamed of becoming a designer just like her mom. Although, she came from a well-off family, her personality isn't all that great. She doesn't have many friends - well not any real friends, that is. In school, she is known to be the biggest snob. They don't call her that just because they are jealous of her and her family. No. It is also not because she is a rich girl who lives off of a trust fund. It is because she is truly a natural born snob.
She don't know why she acts the way she does towards others. It is not because she thinks she is all that just because she comes from a rich family. Believe it or not, she doesn't really care too much about the money. Yes, it is nice to have money but it doesn't brings true happiness. Because of money, her father works non-stop day and night. The same goes for her mother. She doesn't see or get to spend any time with both her parents. Sometimes she even wonders if they ever know that she even exists. The only person who has been there for her and raised her is her personal maid Zelda. Whom, by the way, is also Abby's only true friend, which is pretty sad when she thinks about it.
So why not try to be nice and make friends? Why does she have to be a total jerk to people?
It is not because she thinks it is fun to put others down. No. It is not that at all. She may appear to make it seem that way, but in reality it is because she truly feels that she is not good enough. So in order to hide her true feelings, she feels that she should put down others to make herself feel better. Her parents don't seem to want her. Their jobs seem to be more important than she is. So why would any one care about her? In order for her to not get hurt - because people seem to always leave her; she puts on this defense mechanism by acting like a snob. It is the only way to keep her from getting hurt.
But to be honest, it just hurts her even more. By her acting the way she does, she doesn't have any friends. It only makes her the most hated person known to anyone who knows the name Abby Morgan. Oh well, it is too late for her to change now. She figures she might as well stick it out. Being the most hated person doesn't necessary make her invisible. No, not at all. In fact, at least she is being noticed, so much more than her parents take notice of her.
She could just do about any drastic things and her parents wouldn't even bat an eyelash to notice her. The school would call the house to let her parents know all the bad things she has done and even wants them to come to the school so the principle could have a talk with them about their daughter. But they could only get a hold of none other than Zelda, her personal maid. Zelda will be the one who gets the phone calls. Zelda will be the one who has to come to the school and listen to the principle bitch about Abby. Not her parents. Why? Because both her parents are too busy at work to even care!
So her life is just like any other drama people see on television about rich kids growing up. If anything, people shouldn't be jealous of her. It is her who is jealous of them.
Which is why she is starting to make it a habit to boss people around. She has done it so much that it even became a hobby for her. By her being the way she is, she had trained herself to learn how to read people. She learned what their thoughts might be or what their feelings are. She had gotten so good at it that she became an expert at reading people. It was her way at getting to them. She had the upper hand and the knowledge at knowing what they are like. How to get under their skin. How to make them feel uneasy or force them to come face-to-face with their problems. It had gotten so bad, to the point where she became very fond of her skills. She finds herself enjoying being the instigator. It became fun to her. To hell what others think of her. She is now being known as Abby Morgan the bitch!
Now it is a Saturday morning, Abby is at Capeside High in the library for her detention. Sighing to herself as she wait for the teacher, she couldn't believe this is how she is going to spend her Saturday morning. It is all Zelda's fault! If Zelda would have woke her up on time for school Friday; she would have never been late to her first period class and she would not be here today in detention on a Saturday morning. Shaking her head as she ran her fingers threw her hair, Abby let out a frustrated scream. Which made Joey jumped as soon as she walked in the library. Hearing a noise coming from the door, Abby quickly lifted up her head as she was shocked to see Joey Potter standing there.
"Joey? What are you doing here?" she asked surprised.
Friday One Day Earlier ...
Capeside Cafeteria Lunch Period
Joey couldn't wait till lunch time. She was hungry and tired because she didn't get much sleep last night. Her nephew had kept her up all night with his crying. He had cried for just about anything. Either he was hungry, wet, or just plain cranky. It was enough to drive her crazy. She almost didn't show up to school today but thought better of it because due to the hurricane they had; they were out of school for two weeks. She had to show up to make good on her attendance. Even though she herself is tired, hungry, and cranky. All thanks to her nephew.
She had spend most of her first couple of classes dozing off. But lucky for her, none of the teachers didn't noticed. Therefore, so far she has gotten away with that.
Now it is lunch time and she is currently waiting in line. By her being tired and cranky, she didn't notice Andrew and his friend waiting in line behind her. Andrew kept his eye on her as he and his friend kept goofing around. He noticed that she seem to be tired because she didn't paid any attention to them. He continue to keep his eye on her as he took the time to check her out. It has been a while since the last time he had saw her. He didn't see her since the night he had invited her to his friends beach party. Thinking back at that night he remember after playing the game beer pong, he was busy lip locking with Stacey. He didn't intend to kiss Stacey, it just kind of happened. Before he knew what was going on - he was really into the kiss. Who knew that girl can kiss the way she does?
oOo
After that whole incident that night, Andrew and Stacey had agreed to start hooking up. He didn't even think much of Joey after the kiss he had shared with Stacey. All he knew is that his feelings for Stacey have grew. He didn't realize that he actually did had feelings for her. It all came together when she laid a kiss on him. Then the rest took its course.
Before he realize what was going on, he felt a tap on his back shoulder. As he turn to see who it was, he was met with Thomas' fist to his left eye. Shocked at Thomas' reaction as he held on to his really painful left eye - knowing that it's going to leave a very bad mark the next day - he looked up at him glaring as he wonder why his supposedly best friend laid a punch at him. He then noticed Stacey yelling and about to charge at Thomas but he had stopped her by reaching out his hand to grab hers as he held her back. He kept his eyes glaring at Thomas as he noticed the disgusted look he was throwing their way. Not sure what this is all about. The only thing he could think of is that Thomas must of had feelings for Stacey and he was upset to see them kissing. That is the only explanation he could come up with.
"Why did you do it? Huh?" Thomas asked clearly upset.
Thinking that he was right about what he thought. He figure that Thomas must be talking about Stacey. To be honest, he was actually shocked. For all the time he had known Thomas he knew that Thomas never liked Stacey. In fact, every time they hung out, Thomas would try to find some kind of excuse to want to ditch Stacey whenever she wants to join the two of them. It was always like that. He never really get to hand out with both. It was always one or the other. But that night was different, since it is a party that their mutual friend is throwing they have no choice but to show up at the same place. It doesn't necessary mean they can hang out together where there is a whole lot of people around.
"Well?!" Thomas shouted as he notice Andrew didn't make an attempt to answer him quick enough. His shout had also caused everyone to stop talking and what they were doing as he had drew attention to the crowd. "How can you kiss some girl while you were on a date with another?"
Oh! So that what it was, he thought as realization had hit him. Suddenly everything was starting to make sense. He wasn't angry about Stacey. He was angry about Joey. With all that was going on, he had totally forgotten all about her. Looking around among the crowd, he didn't see Joey anywhere.
Thomas noticed the expression Andrew was making as he watched him look around the room for Joey. "She's not here," he said through gritted teeth.
"Is that what this is all about?" he asked as he couldn't believe that Thomas would punch him because of Joey.
"Joey is a nice girl. Why would you bring her here if you were going to screw her over with some slut!" Thomas yelled.
"Hey!" both Andrew and Stacey shouted at the same time.
"Back off, man! You don't know what you're talking about. I don't see what I did wrong. So what if I invited Joey. She is not half the woman that Stacey is," he said as he wrap his arm around Stacey's waist to draw her closer to him. "Besides, if you care so much for her; why don't you date her."
That's it! That was all it took to make Thomas snap. He charged right into Andrew which cause both Andy and Stacey to fall to the ground. The crowd went wild as they gathered around and continue to watch the show. Without any hesitation, Thomas just started throwing punches into Andrew's jaw. There were screams as Stacey try to pull Thomas off of Andy as soon as she got up from her spot on the ground. All of their friends came rushing through the crowd of people as they saw their two friends wrestling on the ground. Stacey was knocked over to the ground again accidentally by Thomas as he attempt to throw another punch at Andy. Two of their friends came in at that moment as they grab a hold of Thomas and held him back.
Stacey got a grip of herself as she ran over to Andy to check and see if he was ok. Getting up from their position on the floor, Andy kept a mean glare over at Thomas as he wiped away the blood from the side of his mouth. He notice how his two friends were struggling as they try to hold Thomas back. At this moment he realize that he and Thomas are no longer best friends. This night had marked the end of their friendship ...
oOo
Andrew kept his eye on Joey as hatred started to resurface. It was all her fault! She was the cause for him and Thomas not being friends anymore. If it wasn't for her, Thomas would have still been in his life. So now, he is going to make her pay. Pay for all the crap he had went through that night. This time there won't be anyone around to defend her.
Reaching out, Andrew grab a fist full of Joey's hair as he pulled it hard to get her attention. He then turn back at his friend, who was standing in line with him as they both laugh as if he had did something that was hilarious.
Joey was halfway asleep until she felt someone pull at her hair. The pain had woke her up as she turn fiercely to see who it was that was stupid enough to do such a thing. As she turn she was surprise to see that it is Andrew who was standing behind her. She rolled her eyes as she saw that he was laughing with someone as if the whole situation was funny.
"Ouch! That hurt! You jerk!" she yelled at him. She was already pissed enough. She didn't need his stupidity to add into the mix.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Did I wake you?" he deadpanned. "You deserve it you little bitch! You are the reason why Thomas and I aren't talking anymore."
"You know I don't have time for this. I'm hungry, sleep deprived, and pissed off as is. So I suggest that you leave your pity party elsewhere and back off!" she warned.
Her warning didn't seem to scare Andy off as he send an 'Ooh' with a mock wave of his hands indicating as if he is offended. Ignoring her warning, he gave her a little shove to egg her on.
"Oh yeah? Than what are you going to do about it?" he continue to push her around.
Meanwhile, his friend is in the back laughing his ass off as if this whole situation is too damn funny. Joey, on the other hand, is boiling hot with anger at this point. Acting quickly, she reached out without a warning and grabbed an empty lunch tray out of the rack and swung it around where it hit Andy right in the face. As soon as the lunch tray connect to his face, Andy went flying backwards as he landed on the ground hard on his back. But Joey wasn't done yet. She quickly went on top of him as she proceed to hit him with the lunch tray continuously. All the while, Andrew's friend at this point had stopped laughing and went straight to action as he try to get Joey off his friend but failed miserably because he was too busy avoiding being hit by the swinging lunch tray that Joey kept hitting Andrew with.
The entire cafeteria erupted as they watch Joey beating the hell out of Andrew Anderson. That is certainly going to be the "talk" of the century. As the crowd gathered around, Mr. McMelon made his way through the crowd as he saw what was going on. Shocked at what he was seeing, his most promising student beating up an upper classmen, he somehow managed to get Joey off of Andy; unlike his friend who had failed multiple times.
"Miss Potter! To the Principle's office, now!" Mr. McMelon shouted at her.
Saturday Morning
Capeside High Library
Joey couldn't believe she have to spend a Saturday morning in detention. It wasn't her fault that she got in a fight with Andrew Anderson. He was the one who started it. And yeah, she may had finished it but still ... it doesn't make it right for her to have to suffer the punishment. On her way to the library, she opened the library door. As soon as she was about to step in, she heard a loud scream coming from inside. Curious as to whom it was that let out a scream like that and for what reason, Joey stepped in as she saw non-other than Abby Morgan sitting at the table with her hands running through her hair.
Looking up to see who had walked in, Abby was shocked to see that it is Joey. "Joey? What are you doing here?"
"Yeah, Jo. What are you doing here?"
They both turn to look at the doorway to see Dawson Leery standing there with both shock and surprise look on his face.
Capeside High
Studio Room
Dawson spent most of his morning in the schools Studio Room editing his latest work. Lately he have been burying himself with work. Either he was working at the Video Store or working on his film. He spent most of his time avoiding his parents. All they ever do is argue. The last thing he knew was that his parents are going to separate. Which he didn't mind because he felt that they do need time apart from each other. Plus a separation is way better than a divorce. He never wanted his parents to divorce, but what kid wants their parents to divorce? None that he know of.
In order to not be around the house when his parents were there, he would hang out over at Jen's. To his surprise, Mrs. Ryan seemed pretty cool with him spending quality time there. His guess is that she must know about his family affairs. He noticed that she was nice enough not to bring up such things to him or anyone else in Capeside that is nosey. It is none of their business what is going on with his parents. That is Capeside, people here are known to be all up in other people's business and spreading gossip. But Mrs. Ryan is different. She is not the type who would do such things. That is what he appreciates about her.
Though he spends a great deal over at Jen's, he didn't have the heart to bother Joey and Bessie knowing that Bessie had just recently given birth to her baby boy. Now that Bodie is back, he felt that they wouldn't need him around. He also wouldn't dare go over to the Witter's. For starters, if he were to spend a whole lot of time with Pacey they were bound to get into some kind of a stupid fight or compete with one another over something silly. So he figures to stay away is best because he knows how he get whenever he stays in the same room with Pacey for a great deal of time. It is best that they keep their relationship to a minimal amount of time. It is sad really when he thinks about it. He sometimes wonders how he and Pacey ever became best friends? Thoughts about a few good moments ran through his mind as he remembers the good times they have to remind him why Pacey is his best friend.
They may be a complete opposite but they are similar in some ways.
Then there is Jen. When he first met Jen his thoughts were how gorgeous she is. She was perfect in his eyes. A beautiful blonde from New York moves to Capeside and is living next door to him. It was like a dream come true. His goal was to make her his and his alone. When they first met she had given him the impression that she is a virgin. He had thought that he had scored a jackpot! He always dreamed of being with someone who is a virgin so they could lose their virginity together. Someone he knew that is special and he could see himself spending the rest of his life with. Someone he know he could have that connection with. He is a hopeless romantic who strives to live his life as one of those happy romance movies that he and his mom use to love watching. He thought that Jen would be that girl. You know the girl next door who he had fallen in love with and they share this special kind of love that everyone dreams of. The kind of love he thought his parents had shared. The one with a man and a woman only belong to each other. When they are together - they become one. He only belongs to her and she only belongs to him. They are connected, a bond that shouldn't be broken apart. They were both pure until they united as one. Their bodies connected only belonging to one another.
What ever happen to that kind of love? What is so wrong for him to want that kind of love?
That is the kind of love he thought his parents had but sadly reality had kicked him in the ass. Not once but twice. The same time he found out about his mother's affair, was the same time he found out about his supposedly perfect girlfriend isn't so pure after all. It had put a heavy load onto his heart. What he had thought that was pure love turned out to be non-existence. From what he had learned there is no such thing as pure love. All the time growing up watching these romantic movies with his mom and watching his parents show loving affection towards each other; he always thought that was how love was supposed to be. He always thought that he was supposed to have that kind of love. He even dreamed that one day he will film a movie about his own love life if it will ever come to be that way. Something that every teenager growing up wants to have.
So when he found out that Jen was not a virgin and that she has had sex not only with her boyfriend but with other random guys; he was devastated to say the least. At that moment, he didn't know who she was anymore. He wasn't sure if he wanted to continue on in a relationship with someone who already had sex with other guys. Sex was suppose to be meaningful at the right moment with the right person. It shouldn't be taken lightly. Which is why he felt that he had to end it with her. He couldn't be with someone who had already had sex with someone else. He needed to be with someone who is as pure and innocent as he is.
Jen is not that person.
He had his mind set that Jen isn't the one. Which was upsetting because he really wanted her to be the one. He actually thought that they would make a great couple. Turned out that he was just infatuated with the idea of being with her. But what had changed his mind about giving her a second chance is when he had let her explain the whole situation. He listened to what she had to say and he kind of understood her reasoning. He personally wouldn't have done what she did but while she was telling her story, he had felt pity towards her. That was all it was. He didn't know what to do to comfort her so the only thing he could think of was to kiss her. He didn't realize how much a mistake that was going to be. She had took his pity and kiss as a sign of him wanting them to be back together. But that was not it at all. Far from it. It was just his way of saying that he has forgiven her. That was it. He didn't have the heart to tell her how he really feel. So he just let her believe that they are back together.
The times he spent with her was great. It was a nice distraction for him to be away from his parents. He is not going to lie, spending time with Jen made him realize what a great friend she turned out to be. He never looked at her as anything more than just friendship. That's all he ever wants from her is to be just friends. Still, he had plenty of time to tell her how he really feels and yet he didn't have the guts to do so. All he is doing is just leading her on. He had to kick himself for that. It is not his intention to do that, but it is exactly what he is doing.
Looking over the last finishing touches of his editing, Dawson glanced over at the time on the computer screen and surprise to see that it is exactly Ten AM. Wondering where the time had went, he quickly gather up his stuff. He didn't intend to stay in the Studio Room for so long. He arrived at school this morning at 7:30 AM. He went straight into the Studio Room figuring he had time to do some editing on his film for at least 30 minutes before his first period bell rang. All this time he had spent in the Studio Room, he didn't hear any bell had rung. He is going to be dead beat if they find out that he had skipped a couple of classes.
Grabbing the last remaining things that he needed, Dawson quickly shut off the computer and was about to head out of the door when Mr. Gold happened to walk in and caught him in the act.
oOo
Saturday Morning
Capeside High Library
"Joey? What are you doing here?" Abby asked surprise.
Dawson walked in just in time to hear Abby Morgan questioned Joey about her being here in detention. To be honest, he was just as shocked and surprised to see Joey here as well. Wanting to know the reason why Joey ended up in detention, he went ahead and step forward to make his presence known.
"Yeah, Jo. What are you doing here?" he asked.
As soon as she turn back to look at him, his heart skipped a beat. It was at that very moment Dawson realized who he was suppose to be with. How could he be so blind and stupid as to not see what was in front of him this entire time? It was Joey. She is the only one who ever makes his heart flutter. She is the key to his happiness. He also knows for a fact that Joey is indeed a virgin. Taking a closer look at her - I mean a real good look at her - he finally see the true beauty within her. He never really thought of Joey as being beautiful because she was always just one of the guys. Ever since he had known Joey, she would always hang out with him and Pacey. She was always the tomboy, so he never actually saw her as a girl. Well, not a girl as a boy would look at a girl and think of her being attractive. But looking at her now, he could clearly see that she is very attractive. He watched as she brush her hair back behind her ear in that cute little way that she does. His eyes then travel to her big brown eyes, as people would say she got those Betty Davis' eyes, because they are big and attractive just like Betty Davis was. His eyes then landed on her lips as he realize how perfectly shaped they are. They are big, luscious, and look desperate to be kissed.
It is official, Dawson Leery is in love with Joey Potter, in that pure kind of love way.
"Well? Joey aren't you going to tell us why you are here?" Abby asked as she shifted her gaze to Dawson. "And Dawson, what brings you here to detention? I can't imagine either of you getting into trouble."
"I don't think it's any of your business why I am here, Abby." Joey snapped as she glared at the blonde.
Joey never really cared about Abby. She knew all too well that Abby is just another rich snob who thinks she is better than everyone else. What Joey hates the most are girls like Abby Morgan. They think they could just walk all over people because they have money and power. As if it is their birth right to act like that.
Abby made a roaring sound as she didn't like Joey's attitude. "What got up your ass? I just asked a simple question. No need to get all snappy about it."
"Hey, Abby, why don't you just leave her alone," Dawson stated as he started to get fed up with Abby picking on Joey.
"Excuse me. I didn't know that this is gang up on Abby day," she said as she rolled her eyes. Hating that both Dawson and Joey are already getting on her nerves.
Dawson made his way towards Joey as they all heard someone clear their throat.
"What is this the breakfast club?" Pacey asked as he took the time to look at each person individually.
oOo
Of all the days, today just had to be the day when his stomach does not agree with him. Trying his hardest to hold in the aching feeling in his stomach, Pacey broke out into a deep sweat as he sat in his desk trying to concentrate on what the teacher was saying in class. Holding his stomach tightly as another rubble had hit him hard - he desperately needed to go to the restroom. Not wanting to use the public bathroom in this state, Pacey preferred to try and hold it in till school was over. He is more of a private kind of guy when it comes down to doing number two in the bathroom. No way in hell he is going to embarrass himself in the men's room as other students make fun of him as he is taking a shit. Groaning as yet another rubble hit him hard in the stomach, Pacey cursed himself for eating all that junk food the night before. It was starting to be very impossible for him to hold it in as it is dangerously threatening to come out.
Wanting the earth to open up and swallow him whole, he couldn't help the silent fart that had escaped him. Looking around in hopes that no one noticed, he saw that some of the students around him were looking around with disgust written on their faces. Putting his head down because he is so embarrassed, he knew that he had no choice but to head to the restroom as soon as the bell rang for this period class to end.
It didn't take long.
As soon as the bell ring, Pacey was the first to shoot up from his seat and run out of the class as more of the deadly silent fart kept on coming out all the way to the restroom. He had to thank God that his next period was lunch, so he didn't have to worry about being late to his next class.
Running into the men's room, Pacey looked around as he notice that no one was in the bathroom. Happy to see that he had the restroom for himself, he quickly went into one of the stalls as he closed and locked the stall door. Putting down his pants it didn't take long for the loud sound of gas come out of him as he took a dump in the toilet. Relief wash over him as he continued to let out all that junk that was built up in him.
As soon as he was done taking a dump of a lifetime, Pacey heard someone walk into the restroom. Quickly wiping his behind clean, he could hear someone let out a groan of disgust as if the smell itself almost knocked him unconscious. Walking out of the stall to go wash his hands, Pacey watched as the punk rock looking kid kept giving him the stank face. He couldn't help but to chuckle a bit as he continued to wash his hands.
"What? You haven't seen anyone taking a shit before?" Pacey joked.
"Nah, man, but your shit stank!" the punk rock looking kid blurted out.
Pacey couldn't help but to laugh as he explained to him about all the junk food he had ate the night before. Taking out a pack of cigarettes from his back pocket, the kid took out a stick of cigarette to hand over to Pacey.
"Here. Take this. You're gonna need it after the shit you had," the punk rock kid said.
"Oh no. I don't touch that stuff. And you shouldn't either," Pacey said shaking his head.
"C'mon, man, it will relax ya."
"No thanks. That stuff will kill ya."
"Well, if you change your mind it's right here," the kid said as he left the cigarette on the counter next to Pacey.
Then he pat Pacey on the back as he walked out of the restroom. Leaving Pacey alone with the cigarette on the counter, Pacey took a good look at himself in the mirror. He could see that he looked a bit tired and rugged. Having to deal with his father being hard on him, which lead to Pacey binge eating on junk food all night. Which left him a very messed up punishment the next day, in which he is currently paying for. Looking back over at the cigarette on the counter, Pacey knew that he wasn't going to smoke it. But he still had some temptation thoughts about giving it a try. Who knows, maybe that kid was right about it helping relax him. Shaking his head from that thought running in his head, Pacey picked up the cigarette from the counter. Looking at the cigarette in his hand, Pacey walk over to the trash bin.
The door swung open in the restroom as a teacher happen to walk in. At first, the teacher made a disgusted face as the unpleasant smell hit him in the nostrils. But the look quickly faded and the smell forgotten when he saw Pacey standing there holding what look like a cigarette in his hand.
oOo
Walking towards the school library, Pacey opened the door as he proceed to walk into the library. Fed up with the fact that he would have to face yet another unfair punishment, Pacey stopped in his tracks when he noticed Dawson and Joey in detention, as well. Surprised to see his two best friends there, Pacey also notice Abby Morgan there, as well. No surprise there, he thought as he continued to look at Abby.
Noticing that no one seemed to notice him standing there, Pacey cleared his throat as he said, "What is this the breakfast club?"
"Oh look. If it isn't twiddle dumb," Abby said with a roll of her eyes as soon as she saw Pacey. "How in the world did I get stuck with you Neanderthals?"
"Not everyone is as classy as you, Abby," Pacey deadpanned. "For the record I'm not as thrilled to be stuck here anymore as you are." Pacey made his way towards Joey taking the empty seat beside her; passing Dawson along the way.
Dawson watched as Pacey took the very seat he was going to take. Ignoring the uneasy thoughts that were slowly creeping up into his mind, Dawson decides to brush off his feeling of jealousy as he took the seat opposite them.
It didn't take long for Abby to notice the love triangle tension that is slowly forming between Dawson, Joey, and Pacey. Deciding that being in detention might actually do her some good, after all. Smiling to herself as she looked on between the three, her gut feeling tell her she already knows which guy holds a special place in Joey's heart. There is a reason why she develops the talent to know how to read people - and their hearts. At first, it started off as a game. But now, it became much deeper. Some may call it a gift while others may call it a curse. It all depends on how that individual looks at it.
Ms. Tingle, the detention assistance - also the librarian in the school, enters the library as she looked at her chart. Looking through the list of names of who all is supposed to show up for detention, she notice that everyone but one is present.
"It looks like everyone is here but I seem to be missing one person," she said as she look around the room.
"It's me. I'm here," Jen said as she walked up from behind Ms. Tingle.
"Oh, good. Now everyone is here," she said happily as she watches Jennifer Lindley made her way into the room, taking a seat next to Dawson.
"As you know I am the school librarian. I have some important work to do in the Audio Visual Room. If for any reason I would have to come out here and discipline you - you will spend the rest of the day sorting out library cards. So, are you down with the program," she tries to be hip.
No one paid her a mind as she went on with her speech.
"You are going to be spending the rest of the day together, so I suggest that you get used to it. After eight hours you are going to be like family," she said proudly.
"Eight hours! We're going to murder each other," Abby whined.
"Well, just don't get any blood on the books. And I mean that," she said with a stern look before she turn and walk out of the library.
As soon as Ms. Tingle was out of sight and ear shot, Abby was quick to spring out of her chair as she went around the room trying to get information on everyone on why they ended up in detention. The first person who sparked her interest is Golden Boy Dawson. For some reason she can't fathom why Dawson would end up in detention. For all the years knowing him growing up, he has not once ever got in trouble. So why now? What did he do to possibly land him in detention?
"Dawson ..." Abby paused as she grins mischievously. "Would you be so kind and tell the class why you got detention."
Dawson snickered as all eyes turn on him. Great! Now somehow Abby had managed to make him be the center of attention. He looked around as everyone now staring at him intently as they wait for him to start talking. Glaring directly at Abby as she continue to give him that mischievous grin, Dawson sigh with defeat as he figure it was no big deal how he ended up here.
"I went into the video room to finish editing my latest work and lost track of time. Turned out I had skip a couple of classes," he shrugged.
"You, skipped class? What is this world coming to?" Abby says being sarcastic. "What about you, Pacey? No surprise here, but why are you in detention?"
"You know, Abby? It just so happens to be none of your business," Pacey remarked.
Funny, Joey said the same thing, she thought. I guess two great minds do think alike.
"Come on, Pacey! Why don't you just tell us? I did," Dawson whine.
Pacey shot him a look before he looked around and sees everyone was on board to want to know the reason. I hate you for this, Dawson, was the last thing he thought before he start talking.
"It was all a misunderstanding," he started, "I was caught with a cigarette in the restroom."
"Oh my God, Pacey! What is wrong with you? Why were you smoking in the restroom?" Abby gave him a disgusted look.
Pacey, on the other hand, gave her the same mock look. "Like I said, it was all a misunderstanding. Some kid was in there and he offered me a smoke. Of course I refused but he didn't take 'no' for an answer. So, he left it on the counter and walked out. Before I knew what was happening, I picked up the cigarette and was about to throw it in the trash when a teacher happened to walk in," he finished.
"So ... you didn't smoke the cigarette?" Abby asked.
"No!"
Abby jumped at Pacey's outburst.
"I try to explain the situation to him but he wouldn't listen," Pacey continued.
"Oh, Pacey, I'm so sorry," Joey said as she placed her hand on his.
That action didn't go unnoticed by both Dawson and Abby as they both looked at Joey's hand on Pacey's. They watched as she squeezed his hand tight with reassurance. Jealousy was starting to fill Dawson as he kept his eyes on the both of them.
Since when did those two become so close? Dawson thought as his eyes then landed on Joey's wrist. His heart stopped a beat as he notice the silver watch around her wrist. He knows that watch from anywhere. What the hell is Joey doing with Pacey's watch on her wrist?
Jen noticed the look Dawson was giving Pacey and Joey. Abby seem to have notice, too, as she made her way over towards Jen.
"So, Jen, what brings you to detention?" Abby directed the attention towards Jen now.
All too willing to explain, Jen started, "I had said 'bitch' in class. It was just Mr. Pickermen, he just got this whole small-town mentality. So many people here do."
Not liking her comment, Joey had to speak up. "Oh, I'm sorry, Jen. It must be so hard for you to be putting up with us simpletons."
"That's not what I meant," said Jen.
"It must be a real bitch for you," Joey pressed on.
Abby, the all so instigator, laughed as she is enjoying this a bit too much. Making cat noises once again, Abby went on, "Cat fight. Ladies in your corner."
She then moves on towards Joey. "How about you, Joey? Why are you in here?" she tried once again on her.
Surprisingly, Joey has answered her this time. "I slugged Andrew Anderson in the cafeteria," she said proudly as she made sure to make her point across to Abby to let her know that she is someone not to mess with.
"No way! You slugged that asshole?" Pacey asked proudly.
Joey smiled as she nodded while Dawson looked at the both of them confused.
"Who is Andrew Anderson?" he asked. It is clear that Pacey know who the guy is. Another thing that Pacey had won up him on. Pacey 1, Dawson 0.
"He happens to be one of the hottest juniors in our school! Not to mention, one of the coolest person I know. I mean really, Joey? Andrew Anderson? Have you have no dignity? What is wrong with you people? I can't believe they stuck me here with you losers," Abby ranted.
"Oh, yeah? Than why don't you tell us why you are here, Abby?" Dawson asked.
"Don't go there, Dawson. Quite frankly, I don't think that any of you could handle it," Abby smirked.
"Oh please, Abby. I'm pretty sure that we can handle it. Now spill," Pacey said.
"Okay," she conceited. "You ever had been to the boys' locker room?"
Of course both Pacey and Dawson nodded their heads as they wonder where she is going with this.
"You ever heard of a little drug called ecstasy?" she paused for a moment as she watched all of them nod their heads. Biting her lips in a seductive way, she went on, "You ever heard of an origi?"
Everyone else looked confused except for Pacey who seem to understand what she is talking about as he nodded his head prompting her to go on.
Abby smiled. "That's all that I can tell ya. So far as to say, that some people in this school aren't afraid to experience a little erotic pleasure. But I don't kiss and tell. That's all I can say, sorry," she ended.
Everyone rolled their eyes as they got up from their seats trying to find something to do to kill the time.
10:00 AM
Only an hour had just gone by and everyone was already bored out of their minds. Dawson was looking through book by book. Jen busied herself by looking at a Teen Magazine. Abby is pacing around about to go crazy. Pacey and Joey are sitting at one table - Joey is doodling in her notebook while Pacey is sticking tape on his face. Dawson just happens to look up and look their way as he shook his head at Pacey. What a goofball, he thought as he kept his eye on both Pacey and Joey. Looking at them he noticed how comfortable they are with each other. Ever since they arrived, they have been stuck with each other like glue. Which leaves him questioning what the hell is going on with this picture? Since when could Joey tolerate Pacey's presence?
His mind was going crazy as he brushes his hand down his face. What is wrong with me? Why am I upset about Pacey and Joey being close? Isn't this what I always wanted - them getting along? He was frustrated with his own feelings at the moment. But he can't help but feel jealous. He never thought that he would be jealous of Pacey Witter.
Jen notice that something is up with Dawson. Lately, he has been a bit distant from her. Watching him this entire time - she is starting to see why. She knows Dawson is starting to have lingering feelings for Joey. She could tell by the way he kept looking at her. She also knows that he seem to be jealous with the fact that Pacey and Joey are always together. The fact that he is jealous is starting to make her jealous of Joey. When she first moved here to Capeside, she tried every possible way to be friends with Joey. Now, she never thought that she would actually be jealous of the girl. It looks like making nice with Joey isn't going to cut it. Especially now since Joey has been giving her nothing but attitude.
"Arrr!" Abby shrieked as she stopped pacing in her place.
Everyone stopped what they were doing as they all drew their attention towards her.
"It's only been an hour and I'm already bored out of my mind. It's enough for me to go crazy!" She whined.
"Oh poor, Abby! Boo-hoo! Quick! Somebody call the doctor! She's about to go insane of boredom!" Pacey exclaim sarcastically.
Abby glared at him as she was not pleased with his little jokes.
"Shut it, Pacey. You are not at all funny," she said.
"I wasn't trying to be, Abby," Pacey replied back.
"How could anyone take you seriously when you have tape all over your face?" She rolled her eyes at him.
Pacey heard a few snickers coming over from where Dawson is standing. Sighing to himself, he took the time to remove the tape from his face.
"Well, as you so pointed out, Abby. We're bored. I couldn't think of anything else to do," he mumbled the last part.
"Pathetic," she said as she shook her head at him.
At that moment, Joey slams down her pen on the table as she looked up at Abby. She is already getting tired of her whining and complaining. It's about time that she shut the girl up.
Everyone jumped, including Pacey who is sitting right next to her, as they looked at her with shock. Her actions surprised them all as Abby ease her way towards Dawson, as if he is her protected shield from Joey. Abby may be a lot of things but she is certainly not a fighter. Judging by the reason why Joey is in detention in the first place - she knows not to mess with the feisty brunette.
Joey watched as Abby hid behind Dawson, which caused her to roll her eyes at the girl. Everyone watched as Dawson try to move away from Abby. The scene would have been funny to watch if everyone was in the mood to laugh - which they weren't. Joey finally cleared her throat as she stood from her spot she was sitting. That got their attention as both Dawson and Abby stopped fooling around. Or whatever you want to call it.
"Abby," Joey breathed out her name with exhaustion. "Stop with your little games and if you feel so bored, why don't you suggest what we should do since you seem not to be satisfied with the way we handle our boredom."
Abby stopped on her tracks as a little light bulb lid up in her head. Thanks to Joey, she has an idea on what they could do to pass the time.
"That's it! Games! We could play games," she was too excited at the moment. "Now let's see ... what kind of game could we play?" With a clap of her hands an idea popped in her head. "I got it! We could play Truth or Dare. Well, just Dare because let's face it - nobody doesn't really tell the truth anymore."
"What if we don't want to do whatever it is you dare us to do, Abby?" Jen finally spoke up.
"Oh come on, Lindley. Of all people I would expect you to be quiet the daring type. Besides, it's going to be fun. Trust me," she finished with a satisfied smile.
"That's just the thing, Abby. We don't trust you," Pacey said.
"Well ... since you feel that way, you're my first pick," she said with a mischievous smile. "Pacey, why don't you show us how you really feel? I dare you to kiss Joey."
Everyone gasped as they all turn to look at Pacey.
Joey was the first one to speak up. "This is ridiculous! Why would you dare Pacey to do that?"
"And what do you mean by 'show us how he really feels?"' Dawson asked.
Abby shrugged as she kept her eyes on Pacey who was currently giving her the death glare.
Okay, so Abby wants to play games, huh? Well ... this means war! Pacey thought.
Abby's smile grew bigger as it seems she has read his thoughts. Just as she had thought, Pacey does have feelings for Joey. It's kind of funny how she is starting to actually feel sorry for exposing him like that. But to think of it this way, she is actually kind of doing him a favor. Knowing that Dawson also has eyes on her; it's about time Pacey steps up and shows everyone his true feelings.
"What are you trying to prove, Abby?" Pacey finally spoke up. "What? You think a little dare is going to scare me?"
"You said it, Pacey. Not me." Was all Abby said.
"Fine! If that's what you want than I'll do it," he said.
"Wait what!? Pacey, are you out of your mind?!" Dawson was on the verge to explode.
"What's the problem, Dawson? Why do you care so much?" Jen spoke up.
Dawson turned to look at her as Joey kept her eyes on him. She noticed he seems to be a bit odd lately. She also noticed the fact that he seem to be a bit distant from Jen. From what she had heard, she thought that the two of them had patched things up.
"It's just that it is silly," Dawson replied lamely.
"Why? Why is it silly?" Jen asked.
"Yeah, Dawson. Why do you think Pacey kissing Joey would be silly?" Abby piped in with a wicked smile.
"Because they can't stand each other!" He yelled.
"Well, let us be the judge of that," Abby said as she pushed Pacey towards Joey.
Meanwhile, Dawson is trying to hold his cool as he watches Pacey slowly make his way towards Joey. Seeing his two friends like this is enough to make him sick. As soon as he saw Pacey gently place his hand on Joey's cheek, Dawson balled up his fists tight as he tries to hold it together. Not wanting to watch what is happening before his very eyes, he couldn't look away either. Some part of him wanted to see Joey's reaction towards the kiss. Will she be into it? Or will it be forced? Either way, he has to know.
As soon as Pacey placed his hand on her cheek, she is not going to deny the warmth and spark behind that one simple touch. She instantly closed her eyes as he rubs her cheek gently. He then leans forward as he placed his forehead against hers. They both looked into each other's eyes as he silently told her that it is going to be okay. She seems to understand him as she slowly moves her lips towards his. Pacey than met her halfway as his lips pressed gently to hers. Their lips linger together for a moment until Joey pulled away for a little bit but Pacey lean back in to claim her lips once again. This time, the kiss was starting to get more intense as Pacey pulls Joey more into him. Their lips danced as their bodies reacted towards each other. Joey, then, wraps her arms around his neck to draw him even more closely to her. At that moment, they were both getting lost into the kiss as they seem to have forgotten that they have an audience present. It was as if it is just the two of them in that library. Everyone else seems to have disappeared. They didn't stop until they heard someone clear their throat.
It was Dawson.
"Okay, that's enough. You can stop now," Dawson said as he walked pass them to be alone.
Jen watched Dawson walk off with a dirty look. At that moment, she knew that Dawson has feelings for Joey. She saw it the entire time he was watching Pacey and Joey kiss. The way he looked at them while they were kissing, and the way he is acting now - shows how upset he is.
Abby couldn't help feeling very pleased as she asked, "Is everyone having fun yet?"
Pacey, Joey, and Jen all turn to look at her as is she had lost her damn mind.
oOo
Dawson was sitting on the floor between many columns of book shelves in the library. He needed time to think. Time to process all that had just happened a moment ago. Thinking back on that kiss, it left him wondering if the feelings behind it were real or not. From the looks of things it certainly looked real. It looked as though both Joey and Pacey really enjoyed that kiss. He doesn't know if they were just putting on a show. It was as if they were shooting a romantic scene from a movie. Which it wasn't right because he was supposed to be the main character in this story. Not Pacey! He feels as if he had become the supporting actor whose life is built around Pacey and Joey's love story. Dawson shook his head with that thought. This is his life! He will live it the way he sees fit. At that moment, he made a vow to himself that in the end - he is going to get the girl! He already has his life story written. Joey Potter is going to be Dawson Leery's girl. And he's not going to let anyone, including Pacey, be in the way of that!
Pacey walked around the library going column to column of book shelves as he looks for Dawson. This is not how he wanted things to turn out. He didn't want Dawson to see how he truly feels for Joey. He wanted to wait for the right time to reveal his feelings for her. Even he has to admit he feel bad for Dawson to have to see that. He had to let him know that it wasn't his intention for that to happen. Abby had pissed him off for putting him on the spot that he had reacted without thinking. Of course, deep down inside he always wanted to kiss Joey. He has since way back when the last time they shared their first kiss. The time when they had first met. Ever since then, Pacey have been chasing after Joey without them even knowing it. His feelings for her runs deep but his friendship is also very important to him. He can't lose his friendship with Dawson over something like this. He has to make it right. Now is not the time for Dawson to know that he is in love with Joey. Especially, now that he knows Dawson also has feelings for Joey as well.
Pacey stopped as soon as he spotted Dawson sitting on the floor. Walking up towards him, Pacey sat down beside his friend. They sat there in silence as Pacey try's to find the right words to start the conversation.
"I'm sorry," Pacey finally breathed out.
Dawson snickered as he turns to look at Pacey. "What for? Abby was the one who told you to do it. Unless there is something for you to be sorry about," he said as he turns a judging eye on Pacey.
Pacey chose to ignore Dawson's judgement as he tries to keep cool. Now is not the time for them to start fighting. He came here to make peace. Not to fight.
"I know it may not seem that way to you, Dawson. But I swear ... there is nothing going on between Joey and me." Well it wasn't a total lie. There is nothing going on between them but friendship. As for his feelings - he had to keep that one to himself.
Meanwhile, when Pacey had gone out to look for Dawson, the girls decide to follow suit without him knowing. So, as soon as Pacey told Dawson that there was nothing going on between them, Joey's heart had dropped. She didn't know when it started but she finally had to admit to herself that she is falling for Pacey. That kiss they had just shared was intense that she could no longer deny it. The feelings they put into that kiss - she thought that Pacey had felt the same way. Hearing him say that it didn't mean anything really felt like he had put a bullet through her heart. And to think that she was starting to think that Pacey had feelings for her. Which left her to start questioning all the time they spend together was a lie? For his sake and her own, she really hopes that's not the case. She actually liked to think that he really did care for her, at least. Even if it is just in a friendly way.
"Really?" Dawson asked hopeful.
"Yeah. Joey and I are just friends. That's all. Besides, weren't you the one who always wanted us to get along?"
Dawson smirked as he nodded his head. "Yeah."
Abby noticed the pained expression on Joey's face as they continue to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"You see? Joey and I had come to terms of getting along." It pained Pacey for him to say all this. "That's all it is, man," he finished.
Joey couldn't stand to listen any further as she turns to walk away. Shock by Joey's actions, Jen was about to go after her until Abby had stopped her and told her she will go see to Joey. Jen nodded as she turns back on Pacey and Dawson's conversation.
"Oh, one more thing. What is up with the watch?" Dawson asked.
"Watch?" Pacey was confused for a moment.
"Yeah. You know your favorite silver watch. I saw it on Joey's wrist. What was that about?"
"Oh, that watch." Pacey smirked as he thought about it. "It was nothing. I gave it to her because I was sick and tired of her always eyeing it like she was going to steal it from me."
"Oh, I see. It was like that," Dawson knew how much Pacey loves that watch. So when he noticed Joey wearing it, he thought there was some kind of a special meaning behind it.
Pacey wanted to kick himself for lying to Dawson. Everything he was saying is killing him. He wanted to tell Dawson the truth. He wanted to tell him the truth about everything. The time when he and Joey shared their first kiss. How he was starting to fall for her. How he pretended he can't stand her just to mask his true feelings for her. How much he is in love with her. But the sad reality is she doesn't feel the same way. Apparently, his love for her is one sided. She has feelings for Dawson, and now that he knows that Dawson feels the same way; he is afraid that he is going to lose her.
"What is going on between you and Jen?" Pacey had to ask to see what had changed.
With the mention of her name, Jen perked up with interest. She, too, like Pacey wants to know the reason why Dawson all of a sudden has a change of heart.
"Oh. So you've noticed, huh?"
"It was pretty hard not to when you haven't even said one word to her," Pacey explained.
"I've talked to her," Dawson defended.
Pacey gave Dawson a pointed look as if telling him he knows exactly what he is talking about.
"Okay, fine," Dawson conceited. "It's just that ever since I found out about Jen's deception, I haven't really felt the same."
Jen looked at Dawson like he was crazy. What does he mean by deception? I thought everything was going great.
"What do you mean by deception, man?" Pacey voiced Jen's very thought. "It's not like the girl had cheated on you. All that happened was way before she even met you."
"Yes, but she didn't tell me either!"
"So what you're saying is ... if she would have come to you with the truth from the start, you would have given her a chance?"
Jen held her breath as she waited for Dawson's reply.
"I don't know," Dawson said. "To be honest, I don't think I would have pursued her like I did."
"What?!" Jen couldn't believe what she just heard.
Both Dawson and Pacey jumped as they turn and saw Jen standing a few feet away. It was obvious she heard the entire conversation because she looked as though she was about to murder Dawson Leery. Not wanting to be around to witness that, Pacey gave his friend an aplogetic look as he silently excuse himself from the both of them.
oOo
Joey was fingering the silver watch Pacey had given her as she was on the verge of tears. She honestly thought that Pacey may have liked her. Lately, he has been nothing but nice to her. Surely it wasn't all because Dawson had wanted them to get along, was it? Is that why Pacey has been acting so strange lately? To think that she had fell for it. Tears fell from her eyes as she quickly wipes them away. Of all people, Pacey had to be the one who made her feel this way. Like a fool, she couldn't help her feelings any longer. She could no longer deny that she have fallen in love with Pacey Witter.
"Joey! There you are," Abby said as she approaches Joey.
"What do you want, Abby?" Joey wasn't in the mood for her silly games.
"Chill out, girl. I just came to check up on you," she took a moment to study her. "From the looks of things, it looks like you could use a friendly talk."
"A friendly talk? From you?" Joey asked incredulously.
"Why sound so surprised? I could be friendly when I want to," Abby said proudly.
Joey rolled her eyes as she looked down at her watch once again.
"I'll pass," she whispered.
Abby noticed the way Joey has been staring at that watch. Even she has to admit that the watch is gorgeous. It didn't take her long to figure out who gave her that watch. Just like it didn't take her long to figure out how both Pacey and Joey feel for each other. To her it is pretty obvious. That kiss they shared just minutes ago had pretty much told it all. It was very intense. It's too bad that Dawson had to be in the way of their pending romance.
"Oh come on, Joey. Let me guess ... Pacey gave you that watch, right?"
Joey glared at Abby. "What?"
Abby held her hands up in mock surrender. "Hey, don't get defensive. I'm just saying I notice the way you were acting when Pacey told Dawson that there was nothing going on between the two of you."
Joey turns her head so that Abby wouldn't see her lose face. "What do you know about it, Abby?"
"Well, for starters, I know you have a thing for Pacey. I've seen the way the two of you kiss. It was intense. Then when Pacey told Dawson that it was nothing as if he felt nothing about that kiss - you seemed upset. And now here we are; you're moping around as you stare at the very thing that seems precious to you. Am I right?" Abby looked to Joey to get a reaction.
Joey then turns a glaring eye at Abby. "You're a freak, Abby."
Abby laughed a little. "Well ... now that wasn't so friendly, now was it?"
"Joey?"
Both girls turn as they saw Pacey approaching. It didn't take long for Abby to see the spark and connection the two of them share. Pacey just had to show that one little smile and then all is well between the two of them. Abby smile to herself as she realizes Joey couldn't stay upset for very long when it comes to Pacey. He could just flash her that smile of his and then her heart would just melt. Everything forgotten. At that moment, Abby knew that the two of them will be alright.
As soon as Pacey finally reached them, Pacey and Joey stared at each other without saying a word. Abby knew that it was time to leave the two of them alone as she stood up and excuse herself. Pacey smirked at Joey as he took the very seat Abby was sitting.
"Hey," Pacey said.
"Hi," Joey smiled.
Pacey took a deep breath before he began talking. "Jo, I'm sorry about what just happened back there."
Joey looked at Pacey confused. Her mind was racing as she start to worry that Pacey must know that she was there when she heard him talking to Dawson.
"Sorry about what, Pace?" She finally asked.
"You know that kiss. I didn't intend for it to happen that way. I hope you're not mad," he said as he looked at her.
Oh, so that's what he is sorry about, she thought sadly. And he really wasn't into the kiss as I thought. So I was the only one who felt it. She tried so hard not to cry in front of him as she held back the tears that were threatening to come out.
She plastered a fake smile. "No, Pace. I'm not mad," her heart is aching.
Pacey nodded as he smiled, pleased that she is not upset with the whole situation. Little does he know, his smile and relief is breaking her heart.
"So, we're cool than?" He sighed.
"Yes, we're cool," Joey gave a bittersweet smile.
"Cool," Pacey said as he poke Joey on her side playfully.
Joey jumped as she laughed hard trying to push Pacey's hand out of the way. "Pa-cey! Stooooop!" She giggled.
"What? I'm not stopping. Come here," he said as he continues to tickle her. Loving the sound of her laughter, and loving the fact that he is the one that could make her laugh like that.
oOo
Meanwhile, Dawson and Jen weren't doing so well. Ever since Pacey had left them alone, they have been arguing non-stop. There were times when Jen would grab a book from its shelf and throw it at Dawson, leaving a pile of books on the floor.
"Jen! Stop! That hurts!" Dawson yelled.
"Oh it hurts, huh? Think about how you make me feel," she screamed at him as she attempts to grab another book to throw at him.
But Dawson was quick this time as he moved forward, avoiding stepping over the pile of books; he stopped her from throwing the book in mid-air. He snatched the book from her and threw it down on the ground with the rest of the thrown books. Both were breathing heavily as they glared at each other.
"What is it, Dawson? I thought that things were going good between us. Why all of a sudden now you -" Jen started before being interrupted by Dawson.
"Because I don't love you!" He shouted at her.
Jen's heart stopped as she stared up at him. "W-What?" She shuddered as tears fell from her eyes.
Dawson rubbed his hand down his face. "Jen, I'm sorry. But I don't feel the same way anymore," he said.
"Because of Joey?" She looked at him knowingly.
Dawson looked at her shocked for a moment. "I'm sorry," was all he said as he left her alone.
By the time Dawson was out of sight and ear shot, Jen burst into tears as the one guy she had fallen for had broken her heart once again.
3:15pm
Everyone is back to their usual boredom as they all seem to be more distant from each other than before. Dawson and Jen avoided eye contact at all cost. Pacey and Joey, were still close to each other but seemed quite distant from each other. It was a bit awkward to watch. But not as awkward as Dawson and Jen. Abby shook her head at the two as she watched Dawson throwing Jen dirty looks here and there. Jen was busy ignoring him as she buried her head in yet another magazine.
Drumming her fingers on the table as she rested her head on her hand, Abby stood up as she excused herself to the restroom. On her way, her stomach was growling and cramping. She hasn't eaten anything since she got here this morning. To think to have to stay in detention for eight hours without anything to eat. It was enough to give her a migraine.
Before heading into the Ladies Restroom, Abby passed the Audio Visual Room and saw Ms. Tingle sitting at the desk watching re-runs of Days Of Our Lives while enjoying a good looking sub from Subway. Her stomach growled even louder as she stared at the sub; wishing that she could take a bite out of it. Looking at Ms. Tingle, her anger started to rise ten fold. It's not fair that she gets to relax and enjoy watching soaps while enjoying a good sandwich. While the rest of them are stuck in the library - bored out of their minds and hungry. It is not fair at all!
Abby rushed to the restroom as an idea had popped in her head.
Meanwhile, back at the library, Dawson kept stealing glances over at Joey. For some reason, now that he realized how much he likes her - he is too shy to approach her. Which is odd because he has known her for ten years and not once has he ever been shy around her. But looking at her now, he realize how much she have grown. Her body has developed a lot since then. Her breast seem to have gotten fuller and bigger. She have beautiful well shaped full lips. He then subconsciously licked his own lips as he pictured his lips touching hers. He was so jealous of Pacey. It doesn't seem fair that Pacey gets to kiss those lips and he couldn't. God, how he hates Abby for that stupid dare. His thoughts kept going back at what Abby said. Something about showing them how Pacey really feels. Dawson can't lay a finger on it but he can't help to think that she is referring to Pacey having feelings for Joey. But that doesn't make sense because Pacey assured him that there is nothing between them.
Dawson glance over at Pacey as he watches him closely. Thoughts were running through his mind. For all the years he has known Pacey, never once did he ever shown any interest towards Joey. If anything he knows how much Pacey has loathed her. So why would he even have feelings for her now? It doesn't make sense. Maybe Abby was mistaken. Maybe she was trying to start something that wasn't really there. After all, Abby is known to be the master of manipulation. This is just another one of her wicked games. She's the Evil Queen while the rest of them are her Followers.
Everyone snapped out of their thoughts or whatever they were doing when Abby burst into the room.
Panting out of breath, Abby swallowed hard as she took one large deep breath before talking.
"You. Guys. Are. Not. Going. To. Believe. What. Ms. Tingle. Is. Doing," she said in between breaths.
"What?" Asked Pacey. Clearly ignoring the fact that she is completely out of breath. It was as if someone was chasing her.
Abby took a moment to fully catch her breath before speaking again.
Wow! I really need to start working out, she thought.
"Ms. Tingle is in the Audio Visual Room watching re-runs of Days Of Our Lives while eating a sub from Subway," she said all at once under one breath.
"What?!" Both Dawson and Pacey said.
"Yeah! I know," Abby said drastically.
"That is so messed up," Jen said.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. You know, Ms. Tingle reminded me of this movie called Teaching Mrs. Tingle. You know the one with that actress who kind of look like me that's in it. She was awesome. What is her name? Katie Holmes," Joey said as she looked around at everyone staring at her funny.
"What?" She asked.
Pacey was the first to speak up. "Nothing. It's just that you can be cute sometimes."
"And you called me a freak?" Abby mumbled under her breath.
The fact that Pacey said that Joey is cute didn't go unnoticed by Dawson as he shot a glare at Pacey.
"Anyways, I have an idea," Abby said.
"Oh no. Not another one of your lame ideas," Pacey complain.
"No, stupid," she spat. "You gonna like this one."
"What do you have in mind?" Dawson asked intrude.
Abby cleared her throat before speaking. "Since the only time we are allowed to leave this god awful library is to go to the restroom, right?"
Everyone nod their heads as they wonder where she is going with this.
"Well, we have a way out of here. We can sneak to the cafeteria and see what we can fine to eat while Ms. Tingle is too busy being occupied by watching weeks worth of Soaps," she said proudly.
"Hey, that's not a bad idea. Just wished I would have thought of it sooner," Pacey uttered.
Abby smirked as she looked at him, while everyone else agreed as they quickly gathered together and headed out of the library. They slowed down as soon as they reached the Audio Visual Room where Ms. Tingle is currently at. All five heads peeked in the open doorway as they saw Ms. Tingle sitting in the chair eyes glued to the TV screen. One by one, each individual tip toe across the open doorway - careful not to make any sound as they avoid from being caught.
As soon as every last one of them made it through successfully, they quickly broke out into a run to the cafeteria. Abby was the first to stop at the Vending Machine as she looked in to see what they have that's good. It didn't take Pacey long to spot a bag of chips as he grabbed a handful of it and started eating it. Dawson saw a microwave in the kitchen area as he heated the leftover burritos. As soon as Pacey saw what Dawson was doing, he quickly dropped the bag of chips as he headed to the kitchen area to grab a couple of burritos himself. The girls laughed as they shook their heads at Pacey's actions. Joey and Jen had joined Abby over at the Vending Machine and noticed that it had a Chicken Caesar Salad inside.
It was crazy in the cafeteria as they ate like they were starving for days. Abby and Dawson grabbed water bottles for them to drink. Neither noticed how fast time went by as it is already 4:30pm. Abby just happen to glance at the clock on the wall and panicked as soon as she saw the time.
"You guys! We have to get back to the library like now!" She shouted as she quickly gather up her trash and threw it in the bin.
Everyone else follow suit as they threw their trash away and ran out in the halls. They almost made it towards the library but quickly have to stop short when they notice Ms. Tingle standing in the middle of the hallway arms crossed as she didn't look very pleased to see them all out in the hallway breaking the rules.
oOo
For the next 30 minutes of their time left, Ms. Tingle had made them clean parts of the library. They had to re-stack the books that were thrown to the ground by Jen. They had to dust some of the bookshelves and wipe down the tables. She wanted it to be spotless by five before they left. If it's wasn't to her liking, they would have to spend another hour cleaning until they got it right.
Everyone had gotten to work except for Abby who claimed she didn't do cleaning. She has a housemaid who does all the work for her. No one had time to argue with her as they continued to work together. The quicker they get it done the better.
It was almost five as Pacey and Dawson were dusting their last set of book shelves. Joey and Jen were wiping down the last table where Abby was sitting filing her nails. She quickly stood up and snatched the rag from Jen as she pretended that she just finished up wiping the tables as soon as she saw Ms. Tingle walked in.
"Ms. Tingle. You came just in time. We just finished cleaning everything you wanted us to clean," Abby said as she tried to show Ms. Tingle the job that both Joey and Jen had done.
Everyone looked to each other as they rolled their eyes at Abby's foolishness. Ms. Tingle ignored Abby as she walked around each area she had them clean - inspecting it thoroughly checking to see if the books were stacked right in their proper order, the shelves had been dusted off well, and that the tables were wiped clean and spotless. Everything seemed to look good to her as she turned to face them. She kept a straight poker face as everyone tried to figure out if she was satisfied with their work.
"Well, it looks like you all have earned your credits for the day," she said.
Not wanting to get too excited just yet, Abby wanted to make sure what Ms. Tingle meant by that.
"So does this mean we can go now?" She asked hopeful.
"Yes, Abby, you can go. But some word of advice, if you don't want to see me here again in detention - I suggest that next time tardiness wouldn't be an issue," Ms. Tingle hinted as she turn and left the library.
As soon as Ms. Tingle left the room, everyone turn a prying eye towards Abby. They all formed a circle around her as she stumbled to try to break away from them.
"Wh-what are you guys doing? You heard Ms. Tingle, she said that we can go now," she stammered.
They continue to move closer to her as she kept backing away. Her back suddenly hit one of the columns of bookshelves as it prohibited her from moving back any further. Everyone had smiles on their face as they continued to draw even more closer.
Abby was starting to get scared as she wondered what they planning on doing to her. It was four against one and right now it doesn't look like a fair fight.
"What do you guys want from me?" She finally break.
They all stopped and laughed as they broke away. They weren't going to do anything. They just wanted to give her a little scare. Serve her right for taking credit for something she didn't do.
"You can relax, Abby. We're not gonna do anything to ya," Pacey said.
"Than what was that about?" She asked.
"We wanted to scare you as punishment for taking credit for cleaning, which you clearly didn't do," Dawson state the obvious.
"And what's this crack about tardiness?" Pacey asked.
"Yeah, Abby. You made it sound like you were here for some kind of exotic behavior," Jen jumped in.
"Okay, so what? I lied. I just wanted to make things a bit more interesting," she shrugged.
"Whatever, Abby," Pacey said as he turn ready to leave.
Everyone follow suit as they happily walked out of the school building. Glad that detention was finally over. As they walked the school grounds, they happened to run into Andrew and his father. Curious as to what they were doing here on a Saturday, Abby walked up to them as the rest decide to move on. At the same time, Andrew avoid eye contact from Joey as she ignored him and kept on walking.
Andrew's father said he will be at the car as he left Andy and Abby by themselves.
Abby was the first to speak. "What's going on?"
"I'm transferring to a different school," he shrugged.
"What?! Why? Is it because of Joey?" Abby asked.
Andrew sighed as he shook his head. "To be honest, that bitch should be expelled!"
Whoa. Where did that come from? She never saw him like this before.
"Come on, Andy. Calm down. It was just one little fight. It's not something for her to -"
"Are you defending the bitch?"
Okay, that was it. Abby have had enough of him. One thing she disliked the most in this world is when a man call a woman a bitch. So disrespectful.
"You know what? Pacey is right. You are a asshole," she glared.
"What? That asshole called me a asshole?" He pointed to the direction where he last saw Pacey walking away.
Abby felt disappointed as she looked at the man she once admired. "It's a good thing you're transferring to a different school. Cause I don't ever want to see you again, you jerk!"
Andrew stood there dumbfounded as he watched her walk away.
Meanwhile ...
Pacey so wanted to comfort Joey to make sure she is okay after seeing that jackass Andrew. He knew there was a reason why he never liked that guy. But sadly, he had to hold back because Dawson seemed to be all over her, at the moment. He took a glance over at Jen and noticed how uncomfortable she looked watching Dawson shamelessly flirting with Joey right in front of her. Pacey balled up his fist as he tried his hardest not to walk up to him and punch the guy. He was already mad enough as is from seeing that asshole Andrew. He didn't need Dawson to add more fuel to his anger. Trying his hardest to keep his cool, Pacey had to admit it is starting to get very hard for him to have to watch Dawson trying to flirt with Joey. His Joey.
All of a sudden, Dawson stopped walking as he turn to face Pacey ignoring Jen at the same time. Both Pacey and Joey looked at him with puzzlement as they wonder what was up with him?
Dawson smirked as his eyes only focused on Pacey. "You guys don't mind if I walk Joey home? Do you?"
Yes! Yes, as a matter of fact I do mind! Pacey screamed in his head.
Joey looked shocked as she looked to both Dawson and Pacey. For some reason, this didn't feel right. At any normal day, she wouldn't mind having Dawson walk her home. In fact, she would have been jumping for joy about it. But now things have changed. It's not Dawson that she wants to walk her home - it's Pacey. She then attempted to glance back over to Pacey praying that he will object and offer to walk her home instead.
Pacey shifted his gaze to Joey as their eyes locked. He saw that her eyes looked hopeful. Which left a pain to his heart because he thinks that she is hoping for him to agree for Dawson to walk her home. He knows how much Joey likes Dawson so he figure that leaving them alone would be an open opportunity for the both of them. Even though it kills him, eventually he's going to have to let her go. All he ever wanted was for her to be happy, and if Dawson makes her happy than so be it.
Pacey sighed as his gaze shifted back to Dawson.
"Of course, I don't mind, man. Go right ahead," he avoided all eye contact from Joey, now.
Joey's heart sank once again as she kept her eyes on Pacey. She held back tears as she noticed how he wasn't looking at her. It made her wonder if she had done something wrong. He seemed to turn back to the cold heartless Pacey that she knew. She didn't like it. Something was off, one minute he was sweet than the next he's stone cold Pacey.
Pacey caught a glimpse of disappointment in her eyes when Dawson grab a hold of her arm and pull her to him. He didn't think much of it as he continue to watch Dawson grab of hold of her.
"Thanks!" He shouted back as he pull Joey with him while walking quickly away.
Pacey and Jen stood in their spot as they watched the love of their lives walk away together. Than they turned to look at each other. Wishing that things could be different.
"So, how you holding up?" Pacey asked Jen.
She gave him a wary smile. "Well, it's official ... we broke up for good this time."
"I'm sorry, Jen. I wish things would have worked out for the both of you. You know, I actually think that you and Dawson made a good couple," Pacey said.
"Yeah, so did I," Jen said sadly. "But you know, you and Joey would have made a very cute couple," she winked at him.
Pacey looked at Jen surprised at first, than he gave out a little chuckle.
"I guess you can say that this will be our little secret," he said as he put his arm on her shoulder.
Jen nodded in agreement as they carried on walking home together.
AN: So, that's it. I hope this chapter was long enough and worth the wait. Again, just to remind you all there will be times when it is going to take a very long time for me to update. I am a very busy person who works a lot of hours plus have a personal life that I have to tend to. But one thing I do promise is that I WILL not abandon this story! My goal is to complete the entire series worth. I have plans for each season and I am dying to get to them all! So please bare with me. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoy writing it. Again, I would like to thank my beta JItterbug5 for your help, it was a lot of work so I really appreciate you helping me out.
CHARACTER INSIGHT:
Abby Morgan: I love Abby in this chapter because she helped made Pacey and Joey have their kiss! If it wasn't for Abby knowing how to read a person, she wouldn't have Pacey kiss Joey. It was her way of trying to show how much Pacey and Joey like each other. Abby is personally a fan of theirs and really do hope for the best. She may go about things in a wrong way (in future seasons it will show more of that side of her) but her intentions are in the right place.
Pacey/Joey: I love to put these two together, lol. We all know that Pacey is in love with Joey, but in this chapter, we get to see that Joey have finally convinced herself that she is indeed have fallen for Pacey! Pacey wants what's best for Joey and he still believes that Joey is in love with Dawson. Pacey have been trying to respect that but at the same time it is hurting him. Meanwhile, he doesn't know that Joey is actually is starting to have feelings for him. So now it makes it look like to Joey that Pacey doesn't share the same feelings for her. That's going to be the biggest issue between them throughout this series - the miscommunication and misunderstandings.
Dawson/Jen: Dawson haven't fully forgiven Jen about her past even though he had made it seem like he did. Which cause Jen to believe that they were back together. But than, Dawson was starting to act different and he is starting to realize that he have feelings for Joey. What's Dawson's problem is, is the fact that he wants someone who is pure and seem perfect in his eyes. Jen was once that person until he found out the truth about her. So now he has his eyes on Joey. Which is messed up, I know, but that's Dawson for you. Poor Jen, really do cares about him but lost him because of her past back in New York and the fact that she kept it from him. Which really doesn't make a difference because Dawson is only going to see her as someone who sleeps around, which he is going to be a huge hypocrite about in later future seasons.
CHAPTER EIGHT SNEAK PRIVEW - BOYFRIEND:
- Bessie and Joey's grandparents come to visit.
- Mitch and Gale clash when Mitch started dating again.
- Pacey becomes Joey's pretend boyfriend for a week!
