Together
Hiei opens his eyes to find himself lying in bed with bandages wrapped around his waist and arm.
"You're awake."
The demon's red eyes met Kurama's green eyes staring into each other.
"How long was I out?" Hiei asked.
"Six hours," Kurama replied.
Hiei let out a huff and asked, "What about the others?"
"They are fine and they are recovering from the battle."
"And Eri?"
Kurama's gaze at his friend replied, "She's in the spirit world hospital with a very high fever."
Hiei squinted his eyes shut gritting his teeth, "Dammit."
"I was waiting for you to wake up. We are going to the spirit world to check up on her." Kurama says emphatically.
"Let's not waste any time. We need to go see her." Hiei said climbing out of bed removing the covers to walk over to the chair with new fresh clothes and went to the bathroom to change.
"What do you mean we can't see her?" Yusuke asked.
"Calm down. I asked the doctor how she is, and things are going to be just fine." Koenma reassured the others for Eri to be treated to get better after the fight.
"How long will that take? A week? Months even?" Yusuke asked impatiently.
The doors opened as Kurama and Hiei enter the waiting room to see Yusuke, Kuwabara, Koenma, and Botan were there. Apparently, there was bickering going on that Yusuke demanded Koenma to let him go check on Eri after she was taken here to get treated better.
"What's going here?" Kurama asked.
"I'm trying to make Koenma go check on Eri to make sure she's all right. He's preventing me to go through." Yusuke explained.
Hiei glanced over at Koenma sending a glare, "Listen here, you infant, if you think we're going to be waiting all day. At least, let us go see the child and to see if she's fine and not let us worry so much to cause us to have stress."
"I can't let you go through. The doctor said to wait-" Koenma was cut off by Hiei who was taking a step towards him.
"We won't wait any longer, Koenma. Take us to her now." Hiei demanded.
"Wait," Kurama said stepping in the middle of the conversation. "What did the doctor say about Eri's condition?"
Koenma shut his eyes, "It depends if she'll make it out of this. Her power was too strong, and she practically used too much. The doctor did say he'll report back for anything, and if it's fine for Eri to see you all it's her decision." He reopens his eyes facing at Yusuke and then at Kurama with a desperate look.
Just as Yusuke gaps his mouth open there was no need to say anything. He glanced back at the others that were acknowledging this a little too briefly. The spirit detective knew that they were all worried about Eri's sake after rescuing her from that horrible monster that treated her like a test experiment.
"Can we at least see her?" Yusuke pleadingly asked as he could for one last time.
Just before Koenma could say anything the doctor enters the room asking, "Is anyone here for Eri?"
"Yes," Yusuke spoke up loud and clear.
"Well, we've run some test on the girl making sure that her fever will go down. She's resting and she should be just fine." The doctor said.
"Can we see her?" Botan asked.
The doctor nodded saying, "Your highness, I have given you access in case anyone is willing to visit the girl. You can escort them to the room if you like."
Koenma nodded glimpsing over at the others ordering, "Come," Koenma said as the others followed behind him to lead them to where Eri was resting.
"I can't let you guys go into Eri's room, so instead, we'll just have to look through the glass window." As Koenma opens the door it revealed a large glass window big enough for everyone to see what was on the other side.
Inside the room was Eri wearing a hospital gown lying in bed panting heavily with her eyes shield tightly still in a high fever. Hiei gazes sadly through the glass to see the poor girl in this current stage. Yusuke clenched his fist for blaming his stupidity to use Eri to defeat Sensui, but it was the only way.
"What are the results, Koenma?" Kurama asked.
"The doctor reported to me that she needs to stay here and to be quarantined," Koenma said.
"Quarantined?" Yusuke and Hiei repeated.
"Her horn is the reason that made her get here because she used too much of her power during the battle." Koenma glanced over at Yusuke in the corner of his eye." If we go into her room she might get out of control again." Said Koenma as he continued, "As long as her horn is at its natural size then it should be okay.
"But for how long?" Yusuke asked.
"Yusuke, I don't know when she's going to get better. All I know is that she needs to remain here for now until she's fully recovered. I'm sorry." Koenma spoke to him straight as there was no point in arguing. He felt regretful that he couldn't let the others get any closer to Eri; it was too dangerous.
"She's going to be alright, Yusuke," Botan reassured.
"She's strong, and she'll make it through this procedure," Kuwabara reassured with a straight face as Kurama nodded.
"Now, I should escort you all to a laboratory because there is something that we have to discuss. It's very and hygienically important." Koenma said in a bold tone.
The others didn't know what Koenma wanted to show them and so they followed him to a laboratory. Inside there was equipment in the room and most likely lab rats roaming around too.
"Why did you bring us here, Koenma?" Yusuke asked.
"Because this is something I wanted to discuss you all about since we manage to stop Sensui's plot. This is what I'm going to explain to once and not twice, have your ears open to listen to what I'm about to say." Koenma said in a serious tone.
"Sure, go on." Yusuke merely nodded.
Koenma clears his throat, "As you may notice that we are in a lab filled with mechanical tools. Correct? Well, there is something that I wanted to tell you, and it's something that has been on my mind since the start of Sensui's appearance which entails that we have found another plot he had in mind."
"Another plan?" Botan asked.
"That's right. It's these bullets." Koenma said.
"Bullets? What for?" Kuwabara asked.
"That's the thing when I noticed something strange about these bullets. They aren't actually intoxicated bullets that you normally buy in the store; because these are something made by something else." Koenma said as he took a single bullet before sweat was falling down the side of his forehead. "What I'm about to tell you is shocking and disgracefully disgusting. I had some scientist run these and these and...these bullets are made by demon blood cells."
The whole room was in silence to hear this coming from Koenma discussing the bullets that aren't actually the ones that you would buy in the store.
"Demon blood...?" Yusuke whispered horrified.
"If you don't mind me asking. Why would he use demon blood? That's just gross!" Kuwabara inquired.
"It's practically a powerful bullet if you ask me. Sensui designed these bullets that could run in a demon stock market for anyone to use these that he would sell." Koenma says in a disgusted tone narrowing his eyes at the others, "They are dangerous, and if you get hit. It...It takes away your demon energy or spirit energy."
"Wait, takes it away?" Yusuke asked.
"Then that could be..." Kurama paused as his eyes widen as did Hiei's when he realized what happened to him.
"...The bullets that Sensui created are from Eri! He used her blood to make them!" Kurama exclaimed.
"That's right." Koenma sighed.
"I can't believe Sensui would use Eri's blood to make bullets out of them," Botan said.
Kurama looks over at his friend saying, "Now that you're mentioning something about the bullets. Sensui had one loaded into his Energy Gun when we were in the middle of the fight protecting Eri."
"And what happened?" Yusuke asked.
"Ask Hiei."
All eyes on the demon who remained silent staring at the rest not showing a sign but the pain in his eyes.
"Hiei...y-you lost your demon energy?" Yusuke asked.
"Only my Dragon, not the Jagan Eye which I was relieved it didn't rewind," Hiei replied. "I couldn't let the bullet hit her and I shield her because if I moved it would go right through her. I had no choice."
"So, it's gone...gone forever," Yusuke said forming a fist.
"We're lucky that there are no more of them. We have collected and made sure to get rid of them." Koenma stated as he held out a syringe. "I do have her blood in this just to show you all what her spirit energy can do. This is a one time and we drained every blood from the small bullets inside of this."
"What is this science experiment?" Yusuke quirks an eyebrow up at the prince.
"Just watch what I will do. This is a test to show you how Eri's rewind works." Koenma said.
He had a crate of three mice in a cage as Kuwabara let out a small shriek.
"Gather around so I can demonstrate it to you all," Koenma said in an annoyed tone.
The others gather around as Koenma injects the blood into all three mice. All of them watched closely as Kurama let out a small gasp.
"They are smaller," Kurama said.
"Yeah, it makes them smaller than before," Yusuke said.
"Watch this," Koenma said.
He injects the syringe into the three mice making sure the blood is gone. They all watch the mice only to disappear.
"I-It made it go away?" Botan inquired.
"If I'm correct, Sensui did mention about Eri's power that runs in the Toguru family. What is her family history?" Kurama inquired.
"I did check through Eri's family history and yeah, she is related to Toguru and Elder Toguru. But for her parents, she didn't get that kind of power from them or her other relatives either-this is the first time Eri was the only one born with this kind of power." Koenma explained as he narrowed his eyes over at Yusuke, "In fact, I did every research that I could find about her power and not a single trace. But she is the first and she'll remain in history."
"Didn't Sensui mention what happened to Eri's parents too?" Botan asked.
Yusuke silently nodded, "Yeah..."
"Sensui said that Eri reminded her father from ever existing when he touched her. That's when her powers were starting to come." Kurama said.
"She was only 3 years old when that happened. Sensui claimed her to be a cursed child even her own uncle was very crucial towards her." Yusuke said gripping his fist together and said, "She was so scared of almost killing me back there too. Eri didn't mean to do all of that it was just an accident."
"No one even bothers to help her train or guide on how to use it either," Hiei added.
Kuwabara raised his head asking, "So, what does this mean, Koenma?"
"Well, as far as I could say from telling and showing what Eri can do. I can let you know what Eri's spirit energy can do and how it will help in many ways and form."
"Go on..."
Koenma starts by explaining, "Eri is an emitter type demon that can use her power to revive any living thing. She can rewind as she did on Yusuke to heal and practically transform you back to being a monkey basically she is doing all of that with your DNA. However, if Eri can keep rewinding I'm pretty sure she can bring back the dead as they were once before into their current state."
"Wait! S-She can do that?" Kuwabara exclaimed.
"It's possible." Koenma nods.
"All of that coming from her could be..."
"A bright future." Yusuke finishes off Botan's sentence and then said, "Eri is incredibly strong and powerful now that I think about it. But, we can't use her for any of those objectives quite yet after witnessing what her power can merely do. She still has a long way to go before doing all of that."
"True. Until then, let's hope that Eri gets well and I'm sure she'll be all right." Kurama reassured.
