Episode 9: The Scare

Blood. Blood dripping everywhere. Oh, how he loves the sweet scent of it. Hearing his young teenage victims cry out for help as they fear for their lives. It is the most satisfying moment he could ever receive. The glory of knowing the power he has over them. They deserve it! They deserve every last excruciating pain! Watching his victims bleed to death as he tears away their hearts is the most fascinating thing he has ever done.

These victims - they were cold-hearted. They didn't deserve to have a heart. Which is why he is doing them a favor. They deserve to die for what they have done. They are the ones who have started it. They made him this way. And now ... it's time for his revenge. He waited two long years for this day and now it is time for them all to die!

Chopping his victims up in pieces, he placed every body parts into a big black plastic garbage bag. Carrying the heavy load of his chopped up victims, he took it out to his truck as he places it in the back trunk.

Breathing in the nice night air, he then went into the truck that he had stolen. Driving off, he went to the deepest forest. Taking out the shovel he began digging. As he digs he keeps wiping the sweat and blood - from his victims - off his forehead. When he was done digging, he got the garbage bag from the back of the trunk and buries it underground. His work is done.

Driving back to the abandoned house he is staying at, he went to take a shower to wash away the dirt and blood. He felt more relaxed now that he has accomplished what he had set out to do. But the work is not done yet! He still has one last victim that he wants to get. Just thinking about her gets him excited. Oh, how he longs to see her again. She will be quite interesting to kill. He already knows that he is going to have fun tracking her down.

Shutting off the water, he steps out of the shower as he wraps the towel around his waist. Not drying himself off, he walks right into his bedroom. Pausing for a moment, he looks right at the girl whose lifeless body stares blindly at him - on his bed. He gives a devilish smirk as he continues to look at her. Her name was Amanda Barrett. She was a close friend to the girl that he wants to get.

"Well, Amanda," he says to a dead girl. "It looks like you and I are going on a little trip to Capeside. It seems that your friend Jennifer Lindley resides there now." He says as he continues to smirk at the dead girl. "Let's pay her a surprise visit that she will never forget!"

Friday the 13th.

Jen runs downstairs for breakfast as her Grams sets the table. For some strange reason, she has this feeling that something bad is going to happen. This feeling is never new to her but somehow today seem to be the day that she can't shake this bad feeling away. She knows that today marks the two-year anniversary of what happened with her and her friends back in New York. Thinking about that night send shivers down her spine. May 13th was the most horrifying night she has ever had. The night she wants to erase from her mind forever. But now that date lies on a Friday. The number 13 is already an unlucky number. Since that day, unlucky things have always happened. But now the joke seems to be on her since today is May 13th. Not only that - it is Friday the 13th. So, of course, that night is haunting her memories.

"Is something wrong?" Evelyn asks as she eyes her granddaughter.

Jen shakes out of her thoughts as she notices her Grams looking at her. "I'm fine," she brushes off.

"Well, I'm off to the market to grab a few things. Finish your breakfast and make sure to lock up before you leave for school," she said as she grabs the key to her car.

Jen sits at the table as her Grams leaves her alone. The uneasy feeling is still on the surface as she begins to eat her breakfast. As soon as she was done eating, Jen puts her plate in the sank as she finishes off drinking the rest of her orange juice. Placing the empty glass on the counter, Jen jumps with a start when the phone rings causing the glass to fall and break. Careful not to step on the broken glass, Jen rush to the phone.

"Hello?"

There was nothing but heavy breathing on the other line.

"Who is this?" Jen asked as she is starting to get scared.

Still. Nothing but heavy breathing. Jen was starting to get frustrated as she thinks that someone must be playing a prank.

"Listen you punk! If you ever call here again I will -"

"You will what!?" A raspy voice says on the line.

Jen freezes as the voice scares the living daylights out of her.

"You won't be able to do anything when I'm through with you! Let's have a little fun, shall we? We're going to play a little game called Whose going to live by the end of the night!" The caller shouted.

Jen screamed as she hung the phone up. Forgetting the broken glass on the floor, Jen accidentally stepped on the broken pieces. It drew blood as the pain came rushing through her veins. Limping over to the cabinet which held the First Aid Kit, Jen grabbed the Kit and limps to a chair. She then tends to her wounds. She cries out in pain as she gets a broken piece of glass out that was wedged in her foot. She than cleans the area and wraps a bandage around her foot.

As soon as she was done, she put the First Aid Kit away then proceeds to sweep up the glass. Just when she was about ready to go to school - the phone ring again.

Debating on whether or not to answer it - she decides to go for it because it might be something important.

"Hel-hello?" She answered with a shaky voice.

"That wasn't very nice," the raspy voice said. "I wasn't done talking to you yet!"

"I'm sorry! Could you just please leave me alone!?" Jen cried.

"Now why would I want to do that when we are just starting to have fun?" He gave a devilish laugh.

"What do you want from me?" Jen couldn't help but ask. Why is this guy doing this to her?

"I want to see you bleed as you cry out for mercy! I want to rip that heart right out your chest, that's what I want from you!"

"No!" Jen shouted.

"Oh, yes!" He laughed. "By the way, how is your foot?" He asked as he hung up the phone.

Panic started to rise as she realizes that the caller might be in the house. How else would he know that she had hurt her foot? Looking around, Jen realizes that she has to get out of there. Whoever this person is, he is ready to kill. Not wanting to be a victim on a headline news, Jen quickly dashes out of the house - forgetting to lock the door that her Grams told her to do. Not that it would be important considering if there really is a crazed person in the house.

Looking back, she couldn't shake this feeling of being watched and followed all the way to school.

"I can't believe that today is Friday the 13th. My most favorite day of the year!" Pacey said excitedly.

Dawson chuckled as he shook his head at his friend. Only Pacey would get excited about such a day. But he has to admit, Pacey is not the only one who gets excited on this date. He, too, takes it overboard every time Friday the 13th hit. It's a little ritual thing that he does. Every Friday the 13th, he always has a sleepover at his house. They would watch a movie marathon with every Friday the 13th movie that was ever made. He would order pizza and wings; have popcorn for the movies. He would also pull some kind of prank to scare his friends. Especially when they watch the movies. It's more fun that way! They would also tell ghost stories before they go to bed. That way they could have nightmares when they sleep. Yes, Friday the 13th happens to be a special day for Dawson, as well.

"You're still having that sleepover party, right?" Pacey asked.

"Of course!" Dawson said. He has everything already planned and set up for tonight.

"Cool. It's even better now that your mom is out of town and your dad is out of the house," Pacey said.

"Yeah," Dawson agreed. He is happy to have the whole place to himself for tonight. Well, that plus his friends, of course. The only thing is his father will be calling to check up on him every couple of hours. Other than that, he can't wait for tonight!

"Hey, Dawson?" Pacey looked to his friend.

"Yeah?"

"I was thinking that maybe you should invite Jen to the party this time. She's my friend and Joey could have another female in the house," he said as he looked at Dawson.

Dawson thought about it for a moment. Jen may not be his favorite person but he could put his personal issues aside and invite her to his party.

"Sure. I'll invite her during lunch."

Pacey smiled with excitement. "Sweet!"

"But you owe me one if things go bad," Dawson said.

oOo

"Hey, Jo," Pacey greeted as he sat next to her at the lunch table.

"Hey, Pace," Joey says as she takes a bite of her fries.

"Excited about tonight?" Pacey asks.

"Not really. You know I hate these kinds of things."

"And yet you still come to Dawson's Friday the 13th sleepover party every chance you get," Pacey said mockingly.

"Only because he asks me to come. What am I suppose to do?"

"Well, you could say no," Pacey said as he takes a bite of his fries.

"What's with you?" Joey asked as she glares at him. "Are you upset that I go to these things or is it that you don't like the fact that I tag along to everything that you boys do?"

Pacey realizes that he has hit a nerve. Ever since the end of their fake relationship, they have been back to square one. He notices that Joey has gone back to her old ways. Slamming him with her words and sometimes ignoring him. He doesn't say anything about it. So what does he do? He strikes back to his old self. If she pushes, he finds a way to push back harder. To hell with it. Two can play that game.

Pacey sighed. "You could do whatever you want, Jo. I'm not going to stop you. I'm just saying why bother doing something that you don't really want to do. That's all."

"Just admit that you don't want me there," Joey glares.

Pacey glares back at her as he is about to say something but was interrupted by Jen.

"Hey, guys. How's it going?" She sits down next to Joey.

"Jen, are you okay?" Pacey asked as he notices her winced with every step she took.

"I'm fine. I just accidentally stepped on a piece of broken glass before I came to school," she didn't want to tell them about the weird phone call she had this morning.

"Did you see the nurse?" Pacey asked concern.

Joey had to fight the urge to roll her eyes. What is this feeling? This feeling is far worse than what she had felt when Jen came into Dawson's life. No, this is different. It is different because it involves Pacey now. Does Pacey really have a thing for Jen?

"No, it's ok. It's just a little cut. I already cleaned it and wrapped it," Jen said.

"Well, make sure to check on it. You don't want it to get infected," Pacey said.

Jen nods. "Okay."

Joey couldn't help the jealous feeling she has of Pacey being concerned for Jen. Now that she is free, it looks like Pacey is starting to make his moves on to her. Well, to hell with them both!

"Roarrr!" Dawson shouted behind Joey.

Joey jumped and screamed. Causing the whole cafeteria to glance their way.

Both Pacey and Dawson laugh as Jen stares longingly at Dawson.

"Dawson! You jerk! You almost gave me a heart attack!" Joey yelled.

"Oh, you love it and you know it," Pacey mocked.

Joey threw him a dirty look.

"Well, that was just a little preview of what's to come tonight," Dawson said.

"What's happening tonight?" Jen asked.

"Dawson's annual Friday the 13th sleepover party," Joey explained.

"Oh," Jen said.

Pacey nudge Dawson on the arm. Pushing him to invite Jen to the party.

"Hey, Jen, if you don't have anything to do tonight, you're more than welcome to come to my party. Joey will be there. Right, Jo?"

Joey paused in mid-sip of her milk. She lowered the carton from her mouth as she gave a nod.

"Yeah. Sure. I'll talk to Grams," Jen said as she is happy that Dawson has invited her to his sleepover party.

"Cool," both Dawson and Pacey say at the same time.

Great, Joey thinks as she hates the fact that Jen is now invited to the party.

Jennifer Lindley. That girl hasn't changed at all in the last two years. He has always known that he has liked her. There was something special about her. The way she moves, the way she talks ... the look of fear in her eyes when she is about to face danger. That is the look he loves the most. That captivating look shows how much he has power over her. She can't escape. No matter where she goes - he will find her! Every corner she turns to, he will be right behind her without her knowing. She'll never know what will hit her when she realizes that he is there to get her. Oh, how he can't wait to see the look in her eyes when she sees him there in front of her. She will remember. She will remember what happened that night. He will make sure that she remembers. Before he has his way with her - he is going to have a little fun.

He notices that she had made some new friends.

This will be interesting, he thought as he keeps his eyes on her.

They were too caught up in their conversation about a sleepover party that they weren't aware of his presence. It seems that this Dawson kid lives next door to her. The best part about it is that he has just discovered that Dawson will have the whole house to himself. Perfect, he thought with an evil grin. This is his chance to play a little game. He wants to keep Jennifer alive for as long as he can before he ends it. What better way to do so with three other people involved...

Jen made it to Grams and is happy to see that everything is at peace. She sees Grams in the living room sitting on her rocker knitting. She blows out a sigh of relief when she notices that Grams is okay. That call from earlier had really shaken her up. She hasn't seen or heard anything since. It's probably some kind of prank some kids were playing; trying to scare someone because it's Friday the 13th. Typical, she thought as she shook her head.

"Hi, Grams," Jen greeted as she set her backpack on the floor.

"Hi, dear. How was school?" Grams asked as she looked up at Jen.

"It was fine," Jen said as she limped to the love seat.

Evelyn noticed her limp and asked, "Jennifer, what happened? Did you hurt your foot?"

"I'm fine, Grams. I just stubbed it a little - that's all," she didn't want Grams to worry about her.

"Well, you have to be careful. You always seem to be in a rush," she said as she went back to knitting.

"I promise I will be careful next time, Grams," Jen says.

"So, what do you have plans for the evening?"

Jen perked up as soon as Grams asked her that question. This is the perfect opportunity to ask her about going over to Dawson's. She hopes that Grams would let her go. Maybe she should lie and say that Mr. Leery will be there. She is pretty sure that Grams already knows that Mrs. Leery is out of town. But Mr. Leery is still in town - it's just that he isn't staying at the house. Maybe Grams doesn't know that much. There's only one way to find out.

"Dawson has invited some friends over for a sleepover party. He even invited me," she paused for a moment to look at Grams. "Mr. Leery will be there if you are wondering," she added.

Evelyn looked at Jen intently. She knows where her granddaughter is getting at. She also knows that Mitch will not be at the house. She had talked to Gail before she left town. Gail had asked her to keep a lookout of the house while she is gone. She had also mentioned that Mitch will be calling Dawson every few hours just to check up on him, as well. But seeing how desperate Jen is; she didn't want to deprive her granddaughter for wanting to have fun. So, she decides to let that lie Jen told her slide.

"Alright. You can go over to Dawson's," Evelyn said as she smirks when she notices how happy Jen is.

oOo

Rushing into the house, Dawson doesn't waste any time setting up for the party. The first thing he did was order the pizza and wings. Then he got his collection of all the Friday the 13th movies as he set them in chronological order. Not that they are going to finish all these movies in one night, but they do have the whole weekend to do so.

He set the DVDs aside as he heads out back. Outside in his backyard, there is a fuse box attached to the house. Dawson tampered with it as he contemplates on cutting the phone line. He then decides not to cut the phone line because he knows his father needs to get a hold of him. As he closes the fuse box he feels a strange presence behind him. Turning around slowly, he looks to see who is behind him but sees nobody there. What is wrong with me? he thinks as he shakes off that uneasy feeling. There was no way that someone else was there. He is the only one at the house right now. It's probably just jitters about tonight events. He wants everything to be perfect; to go according to plan.

Walking back into the house, he stops short as he hears a noise coming from upstairs. On cue, Dawson is starting to play the Friday the 13th theme song in his head as he contemplates on whether or not if he should go and check out what that noise was. Cursing himself for scaring himself half to death, Dawson tries to calm himself down as he brushes it off and continues to set up for his party.

The dark figure at the top of the stairway is looking down at Dawson as he carries on with what he is doing. The guy snickers as he, too, was getting ready for tonight events. He is already setting his plan in motion as he continues to watch Dawson from the distance.

The distance from Dawson's house to her Grams house seems pretty far for Jen as she steps out off the porch and starts to head over to Dawson's. Tonight is a very dark night that not even a single star is out in the sky. The night air is only shone by a full moon. Walking on as she steps on a stick causing it to crack, Jen shivers as goosebumps start to form down her arms. This very night has marked the two-year anniversary of the death of a classmate. The night that she wants to erase from her mind forever. The night that she has wished she never was involved in.

But she is going to try to change all that. Tonight, she is going to put the past behind her. It is time for her to move on. That night happened two years ago. It is over. There is nothing she can do about it now. It is all in the past. She has a new life now. She is starting to make new friends now. So, instead of living in fear every time this day comes - it is now for a new beginning. A day to create new memories.

Watching every move she makes, he kept a good distance from her. Oh, how he longs to reach out and touch her. But now is not the time. Not yet. He has plenty of time for his fun with her later. Right now, he has bigger fish to fry. Soon, she will be all his. He will have to save the best for last.

Jen kept on walking slowly as she almost reached Dawson's house. A light breeze went by as she shook with an eerie feeling that someone is watching her. She stopped for a brief moment as her breathing became shaky. She senses someone is near; watching. There is no turning back. They will know that she knows there is something amiss. She can't let whoever it is watching her know that she suspects them. She has to keep going. She has to get to Dawson.

He watched her carefully as he noticed her stood still. He smirked as he realizes that she knows that something is wrong. Good, he grinned evilly, at least she knows that she is in danger. He noticed how she starts walking quickly in a fast pace towards Dawson's house. Oh yes! She senses danger, alright. He continues with his evil grin as he watches her. It is now time for the game to begin...

oOo

Evelyn was just finishing up with a few dishes as she set up to make a cup of hot tea. Now that her granddaughter is next door, she has the place to herself where she can relax and enjoy her own company. She then went the Den so she can put on an old record to play. It is an old classic music by Beethoven; one of her favorite classical music composers of all time.

The kettle began to whistle letting her know that the hot boiling water is ready. Heading back into the kitchen, Evelyn pours the hot water into her teacup with the patch of green tea in her cup. Mixing the patch of green tea with her hot water in her cup - she watched as the tea dissolve. Going back into the Den, she sat in her chair as she took a sip of her tea.

Thanking the heavens that she has left the door unlocked - a known fact he had discovered about these people in the neighborhood - he slipped in without her noticing. Looking around he can hear music being played echoing down the hall. Walking slowly as he heads towards the Den, he peeks over as he sees her sitting in her chair looking relaxed as she drinks her tea. The poor old women doesn't know what's coming for her as he continued to watch her. She seems so fragile and innocent. Too easy to get rid of. But he has a job to do. In order to get what he wants, he has to remove her first! She could be a problem and get in his way if he doesn't do something about her. In order to have his plan work, he has to get rid of the old women.

Evelyn is unaware of the danger she is now facing. She continues to sip her cup of tea as she enjoys listening to the classical music. Closing her eyes as she relaxes, she began humming along with the rhythm.

He smirks as he takes the opportunity to slip past and makes it to the kitchen. Spotting a butcher knife, he quickly goes for it. He wanted to make this quick and easy. But at the same time, he wanted to play a little game. Taking the time to search the house, he finally found the solution to cut all the power in the house. And then everything went dark.

The music stopped playing as everything went dark. Evelyn jumped from her seat as she tried to look around. She couldn't see anything, as she is as blind as a bat. Her first thought is that maybe it is a blackout. Feeling her way through the Den, she tried for the light switch. As soon as she found the switch, she flicked it off and on but still the light wouldn't work. Just as she suspects, she figures there must be a blackout. She reaches for the hallway as she keeps her hand along the wall to guide her along the way. Heading towards the living room, she notices a slight glow from the moonlight shining through. She stopped as her breathing got heavy. At the corner of her eye, she notices a shadowy slick figure standing beside her. Turning slowly to face the figure, her eyes grow wide as she sees the man in front of her.

Before she has time to scream, she sees the man is holding a butcher knife high in the air as he quickly strikes down at her. And then everything goes blank.

Dawson's house was blasting with loud rock music that Pacey has to bring. He was jumping up and down while bobbing his head back and forth as he dances to the music. Jen couldn't help but laugh as she watched while both Dawson and Joey didn't find anything amusing about it; just annoyance. Joey rolled her eyes as she turns to Dawson.

"You have to do something about this! He's a menace!" Joey shouted over the loud music.

"What do you want me to do? Cut the music!" Dawson shouted back.

"Well, there's a thought!" Joey shouted. "My ears are about to explode if I have to listen to any more of this!"

Dawson watched Pacey as he continues to dance to the music. He hates to spoil his fun but Joey is right - the music is way too loud. Heading towards the stereo, Dawson cut off the music.

"What the hell, man!" Pacey whined.

On cue, the phone rings. Dawson looks to Pacey as he points to the phone like he was telling his friend "duh!"

"Oh right! Mitch!" Pacey says as he slaps his palm on his forehead.

Dawson quickly heads to the phone and picks it up. Sure enough, it is his father. As promised, Mitch stayed true to his word when he told Gale that he will be calling to check up on their son while she is away.

"How's everything going over there? You kids staying out of trouble?" Mitch joked.

"Everything's fine, dad. I was just about to make some popcorn and start the movie."

"Oh, I see. You're getting ready for your infamous prank."

"You know it. It wouldn't be Friday the 13th without it," Dawson whispered in the phone.

Mitch laughed at his son's commitment. "Well, you take it easy on those guys. You know how Joey is - she scares more easily than most."

"I'll keep that in mind," Dawson deadpanned as he hung up the phone.

"So? Are we good? I mean your dad is not going to make a surprise visit or something?" Pacey probed.

"No, we're good. He's just checking to see how everything is holding up," Dawson replied.

"Does that mean I can turn back on my music now?" Pacey asked.

"No, you numb-nut! What if he tries to call again?" Joey barked.

"Besides, I already had plans to make the popcorn and start the movie," Dawson adds.

"Okay. We can do that," Pacey concede. "You're the boss," he adds.

"But I don't want to watch the movie right now," Joey says fearfully with wide eyes.

"Awe, what's wrong, Jo? Afraid a masked murderer is out to get you," Pacey mocked.

"Cut it, Pacey!" Joey says as she hits him on the arm.

Pacey chuckles as he rubs the spot where she hit him. "Don't worry, Jo. If Jason Voorhees were out to get you," he pounds his chest and gave a little nod, "I'll protect you."

"Oh please!" Joey says as she rolls her eyes. "I'm pretty sure you'd be the first one to cry for help," she then adds.

Jen couldn't help but laugh at both Pacey and Joey. The both of them together could be quite entertaining.

"Come on, guys. Enough of that. Joey, if you don't want to watch the movie we can just skip to telling ghost stories," Dawson suggested.

"Right cause that's even better," Pacey muttered.

"Well, it beats having to watch that horrifying movie," Joey defends.

"You know what, Dawson? If you don't mind I would like to tell a story. In fact, it's a true story. A story that I'm actually involved in," Jen revealed.

"What? A true story that you're involved in? Now that's an interesting twist," Pacey smirked.

"I don't know, Jen. I-I mean it's bad enough to tell ghost stories but to tell a real-life horror story ..." Joey breaks off.

"Do it," Dawson says as Jen has sparked his interest.

Well, there it is. There's no turning back now. She has to do this. She has to tell them what happened two years ago. She has to put the past behind her. In order for her to do that, she has to tell them what she and her old friends had done. This is her only chance at redeeming herself.

"Okay, well we all have to sit in a circle. This is going to be a long story," Jen says.

Everyone spreads out on the living room floor; in a circle.

"It all started with a boy name Clifford Elliot, but we called him Cliff for short," Jen started...

Friday, May 12th two years ago ...

John Ericsson Middle School

Brooklyn, NY

Jen was in her study hall class when they made an announcement that the school will be having an activity night tomorrow night and everyone is welcome to come. Jen and her friends were excited because they didn't have any plans for Saturday night. This was something for them to do.

Before the situation with her parents happened, Jen was a popular girl in school. She is best friends with a girl name Amanda Barrett, Tiffany Stone, Mark Webster, Jon Blackwell, and Zaydin Middleton. Jen and Mark had just started dating while Tiffany and Jon had been a couple like forever since their mothers are best friends from their childhood. Amanda had a crush on Zaydin but he was always a playboy. He was a good-looking kid and he knows it; he uses his looks to flirt with a lot of girls. Amanda would always complain to Jen about him as Jen would try to tell her to forget about him there are other boys out there. But whenever Zaydin wants something from her - she would come running to his side. He would take her crush on him and uses it to his own advantage.

Jen doesn't like that. She doesn't like how he would use her best friend like that. Which is why she could never get along with him but she has to deal with him because he is Mark and Jon's best friend.

Since the announcement during study hall, there is a boy in class name Clifford Elliot. He was a geek in school who had a major crush on Jen. He would always try to fit into their crowd. Jen had a little soft spot for the guy but the others find him weird. They would pretend to like him but all the while they are really just making fun of him. Jen was never really comfortable about it but never said anything about it because she didn't want her friends to think she is weird also.

Cliff couldn't take his eyes off of Jen throughout study hall. Little did he know that Jon Blackwell has noticed that he kept staring. Smirking, Jon taps Zaydin on the arm and nodded towards Cliff. Zaydin looked like he, too, started to notice the way Cliff kept looking at Jen. Shaking his head at the guy stupidity, Zaydin leans over to tap Mark in the back of his head. Looking at his friend angrily, Zaydin nodded his head to Cliff just as Jon did. Mark followed his line of sight as he looked at Cliff. He then looked over at Jen when he realizes that she is oblivious to what is going on.

Spotting an empty desk beside her, Mark made his way towards her. He then moves the desk closer to her as he pulls her into him causing Cliff to look down at his notebook. Mark made a pointed look at Cliff before smiling down at Jen.

"Mark, what are you doing? We're in class," Jen whispered as she tried to move away from Mark's grip on her.

"The teacher doesn't care - this is free period. Besides, I want that dimwit to know who you belong too," Mark says as he gave another pointed look over at Cliff.

Jen was confused for a moment till she looked over at Cliff and caught his eye. She then realizes that Mark must be up to something as she notices the heated looks between the two guys.

Breaking the ice, both Zaydin and Jon lean over towards Cliff as they started to say something to him. Wanting to know what they are up too, Jen was about to go over to them but Mark kept his grip firm tight around her.

"What is going on, Mark?" Jen glared.

"Why are you so interested?" Mark asked angrily.

"I'm not - I just don't want you guys to do something stupid," Jen replied.

"Don't worry, Angel," Mark whispered. "They are just having a little chit-chat with the guy, that's all."

Jen shook her head as she looked over at them. From what she could see, it didn't look like they were threatening that poor guy in any kind of way. It looked as if Cliff was happy to whatever it is they were saying to him. That alone really made Jen curious as to what Mark and the boys are really up too.

Saturday, May 13th.

Activity Night.

Jen, Tiffany, and Amanda were gathered together in one classroom where they were playing a bingo game. Bored out of her mind, Jen decides to quit the game. To her defense, she was tired of seeing the same old people winning the game.

"Guys, I'm heading to the gym to look for Mark," Jen said as she stood up to leave the classroom.

"Wait! We're coming too," says Amanda.

The girls made their way to the gym were they could hear music being played. The gym was held for dancing. It was full of students and some of the teachers were there as chaperones. Jen looked around the gym as she spotted Mark and the boys standing by the punch bowl. She was just about to go to him when Cliff had blocked her path.

"Jennifer, I'm so glad to see you here," Cliff grinned.

"What do you want, Clifford?" Tiffany snickered.

Cliff shifted uncomfortably as he kept his eyes on Jen. "I-I want to talk to Jennifer alone," he stammered.

Meanwhile, back at the punch bowl, Mark was laughing it up with whatever joke Zaydin was telling. Jon happens to look over to where the girls are standing as he notices Cliff talking to Jen. He quickly drew Mark's attention as he nodded over to the girls. Mark looked over and his blood was starting to boil.

"What the hell?" He said as he was about to make his way over there.

Jon and Zaydin held him back as they both looked at each other with knowing smirks.

"Not here, man. Later. When we get that bastard alone," says Zaydin.

They then noticed Tiffany and Amanda heading their way; leaving Jen alone talking to Cliff.

"Hey, what's going on?" Mark asked.

"We don't know. Cliff just wanted to talk to Jen alone," Amanda shrugged.

"I don't know what is going on but judging by the way Cliff was looking at Jen; he was looking at her like he may have a chance to win her over," Tiffany voiced her concern as she kept her eyes on Mark.

All Mark did is kept a stern look over at Cliff and Jen as he gave a little smirk. Jon and Zaydin looked at each other knowingly as they realize that their plan is working. Amanda seems to notice that something is up as she looked at the two boys.

"What are you guys up too?" She asked as all three boys turn to look at her.

Jen looked at Cliff trying to figure out what he wanted to say to her. Whatever it is, she is sure it had something to do with what Zaydin and Jon were talking to him about. She is not stupid, she is sure that Mark and his pals are up to something. And that something has to involve her in it. Chancing a glance over at Mark and their friends, she notices that they have an audience. By the way Mark is looking, she knew that he is plotting something - and it ain't good.

"Cliff, before you say anything, can you tell me what Jon and Zaydin were talking to you about yesterday?" She needed to get to the bottom of this to understand what Mark has up his sleeve.

Cliff looked at Jen curious. Why does she want to know what those two idiots told him? Is what they said not true? He had wished it was. Everyone knows how he feels about Jennifer. He just doesn't understand how she can be with someone like Mark. Besides his good looks, Mark is the biggest bully known at their school. Zaydin and Jon are not too far behind him. So When they both talked to him yesterday about how Jennifer might have some sort of feelings for him; he knew that he shouldn't trust them but at the same time he also saw the way how Jennifer sticks up for him. It is obvious that she did care for him. But at the same time, he had wished that those feelings could be something more. Today, he had come here to test that theory. This is what he wanted to talk to Jennifer about. He wanted to ask her out and see if there is any chance for them to be together.

Judging by the way she is looking at him, he can tell that something else is up. Whatever it is, he knows that it has something to do with Mark and those two idiots. Whatever it is, they can face it together. As long as she agrees to be his girl he will find a way to protect her. They all don't know what he could be capable of.

"Does it matter what those two jerks had to say to me?"

Whoa! Where did that come from? Since when did Cliff start to have some sort of a backbone? She doesn't know where this self-confidence of his came from but for both of their sake, she needs to be careful. There are eyes watching and in order to protect Cliff from Mark's jealousy towards him, she has to act indifferent to Cliff. It is the only way to keep Mark and the boys away from Cliff. He doesn't realize what they are trying to do. They are trying to make a fool out of him and find some sort of excuse to beat him up. Cause that's what Mark does when he feels threatened when another guy comes along and takes interest in her. At first, she thought it was sexy and cute how much Mark cares about her. But now, she sees what a monster he really is. He is very possessive and could be a bit scary sometimes. Who knows what he could be capable of.

"Well, whatever they told you don't put it to heart because it's not true," Jen said coldly.

What's with the new attitude? Is she trying to piss him off? Be careful Jennifer, he warned to himself, if you continue to act coldly towards me there is no telling what I would do.

"Don't worry, Jennifer. I know better than to trust those guys," he said slyly.

"Good," she says starting to feel a bit uneasy, " then I will see you around?"

Disappointment number two.

"Sure, Jennifer. I'll be seeing you," he said coolly.

"Um, okay then," she said as she made way towards Mark.

"Uh, Jennifer?" Cliff called out stopping her.

"Yeah?" She turns back; stiffly.

He turns to face her as he gave a warm smile. Knowing that Mark and the boys were watching he felt that he needed to put on a little show. What he is about to do is going to put an end to all of this. He knows what he is walking into. He will deal with the consequences. What he can't deal with is the fact of not testing Jennifer's love for him. Tonight is the night that he must find out. Taking deep long strolls toward her, he pulled her into him as his lips landed on hers.

Jaws dropped all around them as Mark's eyes were a blazing fire.

Shell shock to what was happening, Jen couldn't comprehend what possessed Cliff to do this. Knowing that Mark is watching, she quickly pushed Cliff away from her and slapped him. But that wasn't all. Mark came strolling up from behind her and sucker punch him right in the jaw. Cliff fell to the ground as he spits out the blood that was forming in his mouth. He than wipes the side of his lip with his thumb as he looked at Mark with a chuckle.

Heated, Mark clenched his fist as he was about to strike some more but was stopped as a group of teachers started to approach them.

"What is going on here!?" Asked one teacher.

"It was nothing. We were just messing around," Zaydin stepped up.

"Are you okay?" The teacher asked Cliff ignoring Zaydin.

"I'm fine. I was just leaving," Cliff said as he glared at Mark.

Everyone watched as Cliff stood up and proceeded to walk out the gym. He kept going without looking back. Little did everyone know that it would be the last time that they all will see him alive.

Before the teacher starts to scold Mark, he quickly grabs a hold of Jen's wrist and marched out of the gym. The rest of the gang follow suit as they, too, quickly left the gym.

Outside the school, Cliff was fuming mad as he couldn't get over the fact that Mark and those two idiots could get away with anything. They got the looks, they get the girls, and yet they still act all high and mighty. As if they are better than anyone. As if they are better than him.

"Hey, Clifford! Where do you think you're going? I'm not through with you yet!" Mark shouted from behind him.

Cliff stopped as he turns to look at Mark. He notices how Mark kept a firm grip on Jennifer's wrist as the rest of the gang follow behind them.

"You think you can just kiss my girl and get away with it? Huh?" Mark snarled.

By the time he made it up to Cliff, he quickly grabbed him by the collar of his front shirt and pulled him into him. They both stood there face-to-face as they glared at each other.

"What gives you the right to think that you can just do whatever you want? Huh?" Mark's eyes grew dark.

"Mark, stop. Just let him go," Jen tried to pull Mark away from Cliff.

"Back off! I want this nerd to know his place!" Mark shouted.

"He's not worth it. You know I would never fall for a guy like him," Jen reasoned as she touched Mark's arm gently in an attempt for him to loosen his grip on Cliff.

Cliff stared at Jen when she had, yet, disappointed him again for the third time tonight. He knows that she only said it to get Mark off his back but it was the way she said it. She said it as if she was disgusted with herself for even think that she may have a hint of some kind of feelings for him. Didn't she see that he's doing all this for her? He is willing to face Mark no matter what it takes in order for her to wake up and realize what a mistake she has made in choosing him.

She will learn, Cliff thought to himself as his eyes shift back to Mark.

"You think I'm scared? There's an abandoned warehouse nearby. Why don't we go there and settle this?" Cliff knew what he was getting himself into but he wouldn't back out now.

"Oh yeah! It is on!" Zaydin said excitedly as he couldn't wait to get his hands on Cliff himself.

Sure enough, just as Cliff said, there was an abandoned warehouse nearby the school. Jon and Zaydin looked around amazed as they thought that this is the perfect place for them to get revenge on Cliff. No one will know that they were there. No one will be able to stop them now.

As they walk further into the warehouse, Mark kept pushing Cliff to keep moving as he wanted him deep inside so that no one can hear them. This is his chance to do what he had set out to do in the first place. He wanted to get his hands dirty. He wanted an excuse to beat the crap out of this geek who thinks he can take his girl. He wanted to teach this nerd a lesson. Throughout this school semester, Cliff has been after Jen. Now, Mark isn't having any more of it! It is time to show this geek who he is messing with!

Cliff has an ulterior motive. Just like Mark, he is even more sick and twisted. Something that neither of them knows about him. To them, he may be a geek or a nerd on the outside; but on the inside he is a dark demon that is dying to come out. But tonight he is not going to show that side of him just yet. He's going to let them have their fun. Let them think that they have won. He will put them to the test. Every last one of them - including the girl he lusts over. Yes, he will also put Jennifer to the test.

Jen couldn't believe what was happening at the moment. All she ever wanted was for this whole mess to end. Why are they still so intent on ruining another person's life? She knows that she can't stop Mark from doing what he wants to do. That much is obvious. But when this is all over, she and Mark are going to have a long talk. It's about time that she tells him how she feels and to break up their relationship. She can't be with someone like him anymore. Tonight just proves that she and Mark aren't meant to be.

Mark quickly sprung into action when he finally made it to where he wanted to be. Without skipping a beat, he continues to jump at Cliff as he beat him down to a pulp. Jon and Zaydin both join in as they kicked him in the ribs and pound his head.

All Cliff could do was take the beatings as he held his arms up to block his head whenever he could. His head was spinning and his vision was starting to get blurry. Yet, he held his own as he continued to let them jump him.

Jen and the girls could only watch in horror as Mark and the boys continue to jump Cliff. From the looks of it, Cliff was in a very bad shape. His face was all bloody and unrecognizable. Tears were dripping from her eyes as she could barely watch anymore. She tried to scream but only a soft "stop" came out of her mouth.

"Get up and fight back you nerd!" Mark shouted.

Mark finally stood back as he halted Zaydin and Jon to stop their kicking. He watched as Cliff struggle to his feet. He has to admit he is impressed. Most would cry for mercy by now, but not Cliff - he was different. The boy sure can take a beating and still willing to try and fight back. Mark couldn't help but observe the damage they have done. He could tell that they had broken his ribs. His nose is also broken. He has a busted jaw and lip. His left eye is also swollen. There was nothing much the guy can do and yet he still tries to take a swing at him. Mark kept backing up every time Cliff try to get a punch at him. It was no use. He might as well give up now, Mark thought to himself.

Zaydin couldn't help but laugh in the background while Jon looked around for some kind of item to use.

Cliff continues to stagger towards Mark as he tries to get a punch in. If only that jerk would stop moving out of the way, he could then have his turn. He was in agony and yet he still tries to manage to jump Mark. He at least wants to show them that he isn't a coward; somebody to mess with. He almost musters up enough energy to lunge at him until he felt his skull crack in the back of his head. Staring blankly at Mark with shock, Cliff reached his hand out to the back of his head as he saw blood covering his entire hand. Losing consciousness, his eyes finally roll to the back of his head as he collapsed back to the ground. A pool of blood form from behind his head.

Jon, who held a wooden plank tightly in his hands, quickly dropped the weapon as his hands begin to shake.

"Is he dead?" He choked out.

Mark quickly went over to Cliff as he held a finger under his nose. "He's not breathing," he said as he looks up at Jon.

"Oh my God! What have I done! I just wanted to knock him out, not kill him!" Jon cried as he rakes his fingers through his hair.

"Calm down! We just need to think of something," Mark replied.

"Think of what!? What we need to do is call the police!" Jen screamed.

"Are you crazy?! That's the last thing that I need," Jon panicked.

"Look! No ones calling any cops okay!" Mark declared.

"Are you insane! Someone is dead and you're just going to leave him like this!" Jen shouted.

Both Amanda and Tiffany cry hysterically in the background. Tonight has taken its deadly twist. Something that neither of them expected. With the same thought in mind, they both thought that Mark's way is the best way. There is no way in hell they are going down for this if they involve the police.

"If we call the cops we are screwed!" Zaydin tries to explain. "Think about it, Lindley. All they are going to see is that we killed someone. We may not be old enough to go to prison but these days who the hell knows! They might send us to juvy first until we are old enough to go to prison!"

"I can't go to jail! My mother will kill me!" Tiffany cried.

"I can't either! I have a whole life ahead of me," Jon whined.

"So it's settled then. We don't call the cops," Mark declared.

"Than what are we going to do with the body?" Amanda finally asked.

"I know! Why don't we burn him up? That way we can get rid of some kind of evidence," Zaydin exclaimed.

"Are you kidding me?! We are not going to burn his body!" Jen yelled.

"Well, we can't bury him! Someone might catch us!" Zaydin shouted.

"I can't believe this! I just can't believe this!" Jen cried.

All the while they were fighting over on what to do to him, they didn't notice that he was starting to regain consciousness. Everything is still a blur to him as he was in and out of conscious. But he did hear everything. So far, they think that he is dead. He may have come close to it but he is a fighter! He would not give up that easily. He continues to lay and wait to see what their decision will be. He just hopes for Jennifer's sake that she will continue to fight to do the right thing. This is the final part of her test, to see how loyal she will be to him to the very end.

"No one knows that we were here," Mark started. "No one will think to look for him here. I say we leave him here to rot. All in agreement?"

"As in nothing ever happened? I can do that. I'm in," Zaydin was the first to agree.

"You can count me in, too," Tiffany agreed.

"Count me in," Jon said. "I'm not going down for this," he added.

Now it is down to Amanda and Jen. Deep down they knew that they have to make a decision. Both girls looked at each other as Jen already knew where Amanda's head is at.

"No, Amanda," Jen shook her head.

"I'm sorry," Amanda cried. "But I can't go to juvy. I won't survive it."

Mark quickly stood next to Jen. "It's up to you now, babe. Our life is riding on this. You don't necessarily see yourself being handcuffed to a crime that we didn't mean to commit? Do you?"

Jen thought long and hard as she contemplates on what Mark just said. She knew it was wrong but at that time she felt that she had no other choice.

"I'm in," she whispered feeling all kinds of guilty.

Oh, Jennifer. You failed me. You have disappointed me for the fourth time again tonight. And now, you must pay the price. You all will pay! Cliff thought as that night was the night he started to hatch his plan...

"... needless to say, we all left him there and went our separate ways," Jen ended her story as she looked from Dawson to Joey than Pacey.

After she told her story, the lights in the house went out. The only sound that was heard throughout the house was Joey's and Jen's screams.

Pacey quickly turns on the flashlight as he flashes the light at each individual. Blinded by the light on them, Dawson quickly took the flashlight from Pacey. Happy to get a scare out of them, Dawson thought it would be best to go out back to get the lights back on. Earlier he had set the timer for the right time for the lights to shut off. Who knew that after Jen's story that the lights would cut off at the right time. It was pure genius on his part.

"You guys wait here. I will go out back to see what is going on," he said as he quickly marched in to the kitchen area.

On his way to the back door, Dawson smirked to himself as his first prank of the day has been a huge success. He couldn't stop thinking about the screams Joey and Jen made. And even though Pacey wouldn't admit it, he also knew that Pacey was scared too. This year he decided to do things more different with his pranks; he just hopes that the rest of his pranks would be just as successful.

Finally he made it to the back door, Dawson turns the knob ready to go outside to check the fuse box. But to his surprise the door seem to be locked. He tried turning the knob again but it was no use.

What is going on? I don't remember locking the back door from the outside, he thought as he continues to try for the doorknob again.

Finally deciding to give up since there is no use of getting out the back door, Dawson decide to use the front door instead. Heading back to the living room, he was just about to go out the front door when Joey had stopped him.

"Dawson? What's going on? Why aren't the lights back on?"

"The back door is locked so I have to get out from the front," he says.

"How do we know if this isn't another one of your pranks? Just an excuse not to get the lights back on. You know I'm on to you, Dawson," Pacey says.

"Pacey, I swear I don't know how the back door is locked. I will admit that I did tamper with the lights but I swear to you I didn't lock the back door!" He tried to explain.

"Okay, than some how the back door got locked by accident. Dawson, just go out the front and go around back to get the lights back on and than from there unlock the back door," Joey said matter of fact.

There was no time to argue about such trivial matters. Little do they know that there is real danger lurking among them.

"That's what I was going to do," Dawson says as he made his way to the front door.

Pushing the handle down, he suddenly realize that the front door is also locked, too.

"What the hell?" He said as he try to jiggle the door handle a couple of times.

"Dawson, what's wrong?" Jen asked.

"The door won't open," Dawson says in disbelief.

"Yeah right. The jokes over, man," Pacey says starting to get a bit impatient.

"Pacey, I swear the door is locked! For some reason I just can't get out of my own home!" Dawson panicked.

Not believing a word he says, Pacey pushed his way to the door and tries to open it himself. Sure enough the door wouldn't open. This has got to be one of Dawson's tricks, he thought as he tries for the handle again.

"See? I told you. It's locked."

"Than what about the window?" Joey asked as she made her way to the nearest window.

Jen followed her as she tries to help Joey lift the window seal. But it was no use. They soon realized that the windows are bolted shut.

"Unbelievable, Dawson, somehow you managed to try to scare us good this time," Joey says as she shook her head.

"Joey, I don't know what you are talking about," he says honestly.

"Oh cut the act, man, we know it's you! Who else could have done this?" Pacey argued.

"Why would I go through all this trouble just to trap us in my own house? It doesn't make any sense!" Dawson cried.

"Uh, lets see ... to make us think that there is actually some psychopath out there stalking us," Pacey rationalize.

"You know what - I don't have time for this," Dawson says as he made his way up the steps.

"Dawson, where are you going?" Jen asked.

"To see if I can get out of my bedroom window," he shouted back.

Without wasting any time, the rest of the gang follows suit to see what Dawson has up his sleeve. As soon as they reached his bedroom, they notice that his window is bolted as well.

Pacey couldn't help but to laugh mirthlessly.

"I don't see what's so funny here, Pacey," Dawson said.

"Well, you have to admit this is good. I mean even for you, Dawson," Pacey says relentlessly.

"Oh, come off it, Pace! I have nothing to do with this!" Dawson yelled.

"Come on you guys; stop!" Joey says getting in between Dawson and Pacey. "Enough already! Let's just go and check the guest room to see if we can use that window instead."

"Oh, come on, Jo. You and I both know that Dawson would have gotten all the windows bolted just like he had locked the downstairs doors," Pacey explained.

"Pacey ... I don't have to explain myself to you but I did not do those things that you claim I did. Yes! I tampered with the lights. But that is all. You can believe me or not, it's up to you. Now, if you can excuse me - I'm going to call my dad and see if he can come over and unlock the doors for us," Dawson said as he made his way to the phone next to his bed.

As he picked up the phone, he realize that there was no dial tone. "Okay, something is up," he says as he looked at his friends.

"Dawson, please don't tell me that the phone isn't working," Pacey says in disbelief.

"Okay, I know what you guys are thinking but I swear to you I didn't cut the phone line. I mean think about this, when would I have the time to even do that. You guys have been with me this entire time," Dawson try to explain.

"Not the entire time, Dawson," Pacey shot back. "When the lights went out you went to the kitchen by yourself, I might add, to go out back so you can get the lights back on only to come back and tell us that you couldn't get the back door to open. Coincidence? I think not."

"So you think that this is another twisted plot for you to believe what exactly?" Dawson was starting to lose his patients.

"Well, you know its Friday the 13th. You got us here so you can try to give us a good scare. I have to admit I underestimated you, Dawson. Who knew that you finally had it in you to pull off a logical prank," Pacey replied.

"Believe what you want, Pace. I know that I have nothing to do with this," Dawson is getting tired of having to repeat himself.

As Pacey and Dawson argue back and forth about a meaningless prank, no one seems to notice that Joey had went off by herself to the guest room. It wasn't until they heard her screaming that they all ran to see what was the matter. As soon as they reached the guest room, they all stopped short as they stared on in horror. There sitting up on the guest bed was a dead girl. Not just any dead girl. A dead girl that Jen happens to know.

"Amanda," Jen barely whispered to herself and no one seemed to hear her.

It suddenly dawned on Jen that they were not alone in Dawson's house. Whoever brought her old friend here is definitely out to get her. She than realizes all the events that is happening today was all her fault. She is the reason why Dawson and her friends are trapped in this house.

oOo

Mitch tried for the third time calling his house and yet again it could not be reached. Starting to sense that something is wrong because there is no way that his son would deliberately cut the phone line. Not with knowing that he will be calling to check in every so often. It doesn't sound like Dawson to be irresponsible like that.

He also tried calling Mrs. Ryan to see if she knew something is up but the phone just kept on ringing. Now he is starting to worry. First he couldn't get through to his house and now Mrs. Ryan isn't answering her phone? Something is definitely wrong.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Mitch quickly shot up as he grabs his jacket and truck keys. He than storms out of his motel room and races to his house. Thank goodness it was the dead of the night as no one seems to be out - not even policemen to worry about him speeding his way home.

He finally made it up to the front lawn as he notices the house is dark. Jumping out of his truck, he quickly ran to the front door. Trying for the door handle, he realize that the door is jammed. There was no way of him getting into the house. He than banged on the door as he shouted for his son. There was no reply as the house seem to be empty.

Refusing to believe that his son is not there, Mitch went around back as he tries to go in from the back door; only to find out that the door is also jammed. This only proves that the kids are in danger and that someone is in his house.

He has to do something and quick.

Remembering that Mrs. Ryan is next door, Mitch decide to head over to see what is going on. For some reason he got a bad feeling that something might have happened to her.

Heading over to her house, Mitch notice that the door was open. Rushing into her house, Mitch calls out to her as he tries to turn on the lights. He then realizes that the lights in her house weren't working. Fear had washed over him as he realizes that someone must have gotten to her, too. Looking around he finally spotted something on the floor. Walking up close he than realize that it is Mrs. Ryan lying lifelessly on the floor.

"Evelyn! Evelyn, can you hear me? Evelyn!" Mitch shouted to her as he tries to bring her back to him.

Evelyn's head was pounding very badly and she was sporting a major headache. As she came too her eyes were hazy. She was seeing double as she strains to look at Mitch. Confusion cross over her as she tries to remember what had happened. How on earth did Mitch get here? She wondered. The last thing she remembers is making tea, listening to Beethoven, and then there was a blackout. Oh, and there was someone there! She couldn't make out who it was but there was definitely someone standing next to her holding a big knife. Then after that, everything went blank. Whoever it was must have knocked her out. Maybe it was some kind of robbery. But who would want to rob her? She doesn't have anything of value to give. At least she doesn't think she does. Which brings her back to how Mitch happens to find her on the floor? Did something happen while she was out? What about the kids? Oh, God! Jennifer!

"Mitch! My granddaughter! Did something happen to Jennifer?" Evelyn shot up from Mitch's arms.

"Evelyn, you need to slow down. You have a slight concussion. I need to get you to the hospital," Mitch tries to reason.

"No, Mitch, I'm fine. I need to get to my granddaughter," Evelyn stumbled to her feet as Mitch quickly grabs a hold of her.

"See? You're not well. Let me take care of the kids. In the meantime, you need to be treated at the hospital."

Evelyn nodded as she realizes there is nothing that she could do. She knows that Mitch is right; she needs to get checked out. She also knows that Mitch wouldn't let anything happen to the children. They will be fine. She has faith in that. She will soon see Jennifer again.

Mitch looked around one last time before he starts to take Evelyn to the hospital. It seems that this psycho was here first before he decided to go over to his house. Why? He doesn't know but he has the strangest feeling that this guy must be after something in order to want to terrorize Mrs. Ryan and then go after the kids. He just prays to God that Dawson and the others are okay.

Hang in there, son. I'm going to get help and I'll be right back, Mitch promised.

oOo

At the hospital, Mitch paced back and forth as he waits for the doctor to tell him about Mrs. Ryan's condition. This was taking longer than he had thought. He hopes to God that Mrs. Ryan is okay. As soon as he finds out about Mrs. Ryan, he will be on a mission to seek out John Witter. He has to get the sheriff involved; especially since his son may be in danger - as well.

Mitch quickly stopped in mid-pace as soon as he saw the doctor come out of the room.

"How is, Evelyn? Is she going to be okay?" Mitch fired out questions, not giving the doctor time to explain.

"She is fine. She just needs to rest. In the meantime, I would like to keep her overnight for some observation but other than that she should be okay," the doctor smiled.

"Good," Mitch said as he nodded.

The doctor's smile grew wide as he pats Mitch on the shoulder. "It's nice to know that she has a son that cares enough to look after her," with that statement the doctor left before he gives Mitch a chance to correct him.

Mitch smirked to himself as he could see why the doctor thought that he is Mrs. Ryan's son. He does care for her as if she is his own mother.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Mitch walked up to Evelyn's room and stopped at the door. He peeked inside through the glass window and saw that she is lying peacefully in bed asleep. Feeling confident knowing that she is now safe and will be okay, he turns and left the hospital as he made his way to see John Witter.

The police station was quiet as it was a slow night. John was at his desk just about ready to clock out for the night and tell his son Doug that he could clock out, too. Before he had the chance to do so, the doors to the police station burst open and in walked Mitch Leery as if he had committed some serious crime.

"Mitch! What the hell are you doing barging in like that?" John asked angrily.

"I need your help! I think our kids are in danger," Mitch rushed out ignoring the fact that John seemed pissed off.

"Danger? What do you mean?" Doug quickly asked as he stood from his seat.

"Someone broke into Evelyn's house and knocked her unconscious, and now this creep is in my home and there is no way for me to get in!"

"Why can't you get in?" Was all John could say.

"Does that even matter?! Did you forget the fact that our kids are in danger? Pacey! Your son could be in some serious danger right now!" Mitch shouted.

"Okay, settle down. Let's just talk about this calm and rationally," says Doug.

"Doug, no disrespect but if we don't act now your brother could be dead," Mitch said gravely.

"Alright, alright! Let's say that there is some psychopath out there after our kids. If he has them locked up in that big house of yours, then I'm sure that the kids would find a way to hide and be safe. In the meantime, I will try and get some backup," John reasoned.

"You're right," Mitch said, "and if I know my son ... I'm sure he would think of something."

"I can't think of anything," Dawson said as he looked at his friends with a worry expression.

This doesn't seem right. How on earth did a dead girl happen to be in his house? What happened to her? Was she near his house when it happened? Is the killer in the house?! Dawson was starting to panic as he began to hyperventilate. This can't be happening! There shouldn't be a dead girl in his house! All he wanted to do is have a good Friday the 13th sleepover party; he didn't expect it to turn out to be deadly. Who would do such a sickening thing like that and be cruel enough to put the body in his home? What was this person's motive? Did he do something to piss someone off? Why can't he breathe?

"Dawson! Dawson, are you okay? Talk to me, man!" Pacey shouted as he ran to Dawson's side.

"I think he's about to pass out. I will go look for a paper bag for him to breathe in," Joey said quickly before she starts heading out the room.

"No, Joey, wait! Don't leave," Pacey stopped her. "It's too dangerous. I don't want to have to worry about you, too," he whispered.

"But, Pacey, what about Dawson?"

Pacey looked down at Dawson then over at Jen who seems to be out of this world. "I'll go look for something to help Dawson. You stay here with Dawson and Jen. I'll be right back. Okay?"

Joey nodded as she was starting to be afraid for Pacey. "Please promise me that you will be careful?"

Pacey smirked as he looked deeply into her eyes and firmly held her shoulders. "I promise," he said and rushed out the door.

Joey suddenly feels the urge to burst into tears as she doesn't know what's going to happen. Right now she seems to be living in a real live nightmare. There is no waking up to this. This is real. They could all die tonight just like that poor girl that is lying in that bed. Joey took a closer look at Jen. She hasn't said much since they discovered the body. If Joey hasn't known any better she would say that Jen looked as if she has known this girl. She did catch a glimpse of realization across Jen's face when she first saw the girl on the bed. Did Jen know who this girl was? It's funny, Joey doesn't remember seeing her around here before. Unless ... it was someone that Jen knew from back in New York? But why would this girl be here? And dead inside of Dawson's house? Then suddenly it hit her as she remembered the story Jen had told them.

It can't be, Joey thought as she shook her head.

Jen couldn't move as her head was spinning out of control. This couldn't be the act of Cliff. It just couldn't! Someone else was playing a dirty trick on her. Someone who is sick and twisted enough to kill her old best friend and then bring the body all the way to Capeside into someone else's home for what - to send a message? Clifford is dead. They killed him two years ago. Why would this person kill Amanda and bring her here? What is this person trying to prove? That there was someone else there that night? No. That can't be right. There was no one else there. She was sure of it. The warehouse was completely empty when they showed up. Everyone else was at the school. No one could have known. And what about the others? Are they in danger too? Or could it be one of them that is doing this?

Jen shook her head like a crazy person as she mumbled under her breath; making it hard for Joey to understand. Whatever is going on with Jen at the moment, Joey knows that she is just as much freaked out as the rest of them. She can't blame Jen for what happened two years ago. It wasn't her fault that her ex-was an obsessive jerk and one of their friends "accidentally" killed someone. If this is connected to that night, then that means someone must have seen the whole thing and want to get back at the people who were involved. The only sin Jen had committed that night is that she didn't go to the authorities. Maybe this was someone's way of getting back at her.

Where the hell is Pacey? She thought as she went to Dawson's side to try to calm him down.

oOo

Pacey ran to the kitchen looking through drawers and storage closet trying to find a paper bag for Dawson to breathe into. He finally found a small brown paper bag in the storage area. As he went to grab it he accidentally dropped the flashlight he was holding. The batteries feel out and Pacey curse under his breath as he kneels down feeling his way around trying to find it like a blind person. He knows the batteries couldn't have gone too far as he still tries to feel for them on the floor. Then suddenly, he heard a noise. It sounded as if someone is in the kitchen with him! Pacey paused for a moment as he tries to listen for the sound again. He didn't realize he was holding his breath as a scary thought had crossed his mind. He knows for a fact that he is not alone in the kitchen. He then started to hear a screeching sound like a knife was running through some kind of metal. Then he heard someone laughing; menacingly. Pacey was on a verge of tears as he saw his life flash before his eyes.

There is no way he can get out of this. He is trapped! He knows if he tries to escape now - the killer will find him!

Pacey closed his eyes as he said a silent prayer to a God that he didn't believe in. 'If there is a God out there, please let me make it out of here alive,' he cried through his prayer. Kneeling down in a heap on the floor, Pacey looked around as he tries to find a way to escape. There has to be some kind of way for him to distract the killer to make his escape. Thinking of all the horror movies he saw - Halloween H20 came to mind when Jamie Lee Curtis' character was in a dire situation that he is currently in himself.

Trying to figure out the exact location the killer is at, Pacey didn't want to make any kind of sudden movement only to go right into the arms of the killer! Instead, he stayed frozen in his spot on the floor as he tries to listen to the killer's whereabouts. He didn't have much luck as the kitchen is dead silent. Careful not to make a sudden sound, Pacey ease his way under the kitchen table just as Jamie Lee Curtis did on Halloween H20. The killer may not be Michael Myers but Pacey couldn't help picturing the guy standing on top of the kitchen table right above him holding a butcher knife as he waits for his move - just like in the movie.

(Start playing The Devil Within by Digital Daggers). Pacey started to stretch out his right leg as he was about to push a chair out to distract the killer but he heard Joey's voice calling out to him.

Oh no, Joey! He thought as he made a quick move to do just as he plans to do.

He jumped right out from under the table just when he saw his friends running towards him. He tried to rush them out of the kitchen, there was no time to explain. Then suddenly he heard a loud commotion - it was the killer! Everyone stood still as they watch in horror!

Jen almost fainted when she realized who it is. Clifford Elliot! The guy she thought that was dead two years ago. She watched as he stared back at her with an evil grin. How could this be?! How could he be standing here in front of her? How did he know where to find her? Too many questions were running through her head.

"Hello, Jennifer," Cliff said with a wave of the knife in his hand.

Everyone stared at Jen with shock and horror as they started to realize who this killer is. Not wanting to stick around any longer, everyone turns and started to make their escape out of the kitchen. The group ran as fast as they could not realize that Cliff had managed to snatch Jen back by her hair. Cliff looked down at Jen with his devilish grin as he had his hand covering her mouth so she couldn't scream.

"Jennifer ... oh sweet, Jennifer ..."

That voice. It can't be real. He's dead! He's supposed to be dead! She saw it happen. There is no way that he is here now. This has got to be a nightmare. A big fat nightmare that she can't wake up from. She feels a little weak, and a bit blurry. Why is everything so blurry? Did he drug her? Why can't she move? Where are they? Where is everyone?

"Dawson ..." she mumbled.

A flash of jealousy coursed through Cliff as he kept his eyes on his precious Jennifer. After two years, her heart still belongs to someone else. When is she going to see him? Realize how much he loves her? He's only doing this all for her. So they can finally be together. He didn't want anybody else to stand in their way. At first, he wanted to harm her; to kill her. But when he saw her and finally got a hold of her - he now wants to keep her. He wants her all to himself.

Jens' breathing is starting to pick up as she begins to panic. She finally realizes why she couldn't move. He has her strapped down. Her vision is starting to become clearer as she looks around at her surroundings. Thanks to the little lighting from a lantern that Cliff had on, she is able to see that they must be in the Leery's basement. She bets that this is where he had been hiding out the whole time. Now that he got her, she wonders what he plans on doing to her; and her friends?

Cliff smirked as he notices that Jennifer finally came to her senses. He watched her closely of her reactions. So far so good she hasn't uttered a single sound. He knew his precious Jennifer would be smart enough not to draw attention to the others. That's why he didn't bother taping her mouth shut. If she continues to play nice and go along with him - then no one would get hurt. Not even that Dawson guy who she seems to be so concerned about. As much as he wants to kill the guy ... he won't lay a finger on him as long as Jennifer cooperate with him. It is up to her to determine if her new remaining friends live or not. He would hate to involve them but he doesn't see any other choice in the matter. As far as he knows if both parties corroborate with him without a single problem; there's no need for him to get his hands dirty all over again. Mark and the rest of the old crew were bad enough to get his hands dirty. But they all deserved it. If her new friends ever crossed a line or if she even makes one little slip - he won't hesitate to act.

Jen couldn't believe her eyes as she stares back at Cliff. He's real! This is all real! She took the time to observe him. He's changed - a lot! He's not the same nerdy kid he once was. In fact, everything about him is different. He's the same guy, she knows that for a fact, but his whole character has changed. He no longer looks like that nerdy kid anymore. In fact, he looks really good in that strange weird serial killer kind of way. He had developed some very well toned muscles in all the right places. He does have a scar on his face which makes him even sexier in a bad boy kind of way. If Jen didn't know any better, she hates to admit that she does feel at least a little bit attracted to the guy.

What the hell?

Cliff slowly made his way towards Jennifer as he saw the way she was looking at him. He's no idiot. He could tell that she felt at least a bit attracted to him. That's good. That's what he wants. He wants her to feel at least something for him. That way he can slowly creep into her heart. So he can dominate her; make her his. He stood tall in front of her as he gazes down at her. He immediately cupped her face with one hand under her chin to lift her head up to face him. That action alone made her mouth wide open as he quickly leans down and captures her mouth to his as he devours her. He kissed her long and hard with passion as he put his whole heart into it.

A moan escaped her mouth as she started to feel all kinds of mixed emotions. She shouldn't be enjoying this but somehow she can't help but feel excited about the kiss. For some sick reason, she likes and hates it all at the same time. What is wrong with her?

Cliff continues to kiss her hard as he thrust his tongue into her mouth. He loves the way she tastes as the sound of her moaning arouses him even further. He finally lifts up his head and ended the kiss as he gazes down at her. Breathing hard he continues to look at her lips where his mouth had just been. Her lips were swollen and plump from the kiss he had laid on her. He smirked down at her as he noticed a hint of disappointment appear on her face when he ended their heated make-out session.

"Don't worry. There will be plenty more of that later," he said as she seems disgusted with herself.

She finally got around to finding her voice as she asked, "I thought you were dead?"

"Exactly," Cliff said as he looked at her. "You all thought that I was dead. But failed to stay behind and actually check."

"Did you kill them?" She asked already knowing the answer.

"Every last one of them," he said coldly.

It sent shivers down Jens' spine at the thought of just how easily he could have killed her just like the others. But he didn't. He wanted her alive. Some part of her felt happy about that while another part of her felt sickened.

"So ... after all these years you were planning your revenge?"

Cliff smiled. "That's right, Jennifer. I did all this for us. I've waited two years for this moment to come."

"What do you expect to gain out of this?"

"Your love. That's all I ever wanted. I want you to love me just as much as you had loved Mark. I want you to realize that you and I belong together. That no one can stand in the way of our love."

As she listened to Cliff's nonsense about love, it finally hit home how crazy this guy really is. Why her? How did she end up in this kind of mess? These are the type of things you see in movies, not in real life. She's not supposed to have a real live stalker obsessing over her. It's not supposed to be this way. Why can't she have a normal life? The whole purpose of her to move to Capeside was so she can start a new life. Away from all the partying, drugs, and crazy ex-boyfriends. She wanted to

lead a normal teenage life and leave all that fast life behind her.

"You won't get away with this," she said as she thought about Dawson and the others.

"Oh, but I beg to differ," Cliff said with a smug look. "You see, Jennifer, I have no intentions of getting caught. I didn't come this far to fail now. These people ... they are no match for me."

For the looks of things, she knew deep down that he is right. They are no match for him. He already killed five people. Who knows how many more he may have killed while being in Capeside. The fact that he had tracked her down was scary enough. What about Grams? The thought of him harming her in any kind of way would make her feel inconsolable. She would never be able to face her parents, friends and herself ever again.

Cliff smirked as he seems to have read her mind. "She is fine. I just gave the old bat a little scare and knocked her unconscious. She should be sporting a major headache by the time she comes too."

Jen just gave him a dirty look as he seems so pleased with himself. She wants nothing more than to wipe that smirk off his face. But sadly she is tied down at the moment.

They both stilled themselves and held their breaths as they heard a noise coming from upstairs. Jen had never felt so frightened and overjoyed at the same time. The fact that her friends are in danger and could be her only hope for saving her life right now, is an understatement.

"Stay here. I'll go see what's going on," Cliff said as he made his move to leave.

"Where am I going to go?" Jen said stating the obvious.

"Oh. Right," Cliff smirked as he left out of her sight.

As soon as Cliff left to investigate on what's going on, Joey had managed to sneak her way down into the basement without getting caught. She spotted Jen in the far corner to her left strapped in a chair.

"Joey! What are you doing down here?" Jen whispered; surprised.

"I came to get you out of here," Joey simply said as she found a sharp object to cut through the duct tape that Cliff used to tie Jen down.

"But you're gonna get caught," Jen cried.

"Not if we hurry up. Dawson and Pacey are distracting him at the moment," Joey explained.

Little by little Joey tore through the tape. She kept looking back to make sure that Cliff is nowhere in sight. She doesn't know how long they could make it through the night but they have got to come up with a plan to find a way to get out of the house. She is pretty sure that by now Mr. Leery may be suspicious about what is going on. They would have to find a way to avoid Cliff in the meantime until Mr. Leery comes to their aide. Then there is Jens' grandmother; Joey is sure that Mrs. Ryan might find the house dark and suspicious, too. If anything she might call the local police department to come and check up on them. Either way, they would have to stall some time until rescuers would come.

Joey finally tore off the last piece of a layer of tape from around Jens' feet. She looked up at Jen as she remembered that Jen had hurt one of her foot earlier this morning.

"How is your foot? Do you think you can run on it?" Joey asked preparing to leave.

Jen nodded her head, "Yeah, I can run on it. My foot is starting to get better."

"Okay, great because we may need to make a run for it," Joey says as she slowly creeps up the stairway.

Stopping at the top of the steps, Joey leans her head against the door. Trying to make sure that she doesn't hear anything on the other side of the door, she wanted to make sure that it is okay for her to open the door. Slowly lowering her hand to the door handle, Joey was about to open the door but was startled when she felt Jens' hand holding on to her wrist. Looking back at Jen, Joey could see the fear in Jens' eyes. Giving Jen a reassuring look, Joey turns back to face the door as she slowly opened it. Peeking her head out and looking side to side, Joey saw that the coast is clear. Stepping out from the basement with Jen closely behind, Joey turns to Jen as she pointed to the direction of the living room. Jen nodded as she understood what Joey was saying.

Jen move ahead of Joey to make sure that she doesn't sense Cliff anywhere nearby. She had noticed that Cliff had some kind of a distinctive odor on him. If she could trigger back that smell she would know that he is around. Since she couldn't sense that smell anywhere, she figures it is okay to move ahead to the living room.

Jen raced towards the living room with Joey right behind. They were close to making it when out in the shadows Cliff jumped out of nowhere and grab a hold of Joey.

Joey tries to fight him off furiously but he is too strong for her to handle. Jen turned around and saw Cliff holding onto Joey from behind. He held a sharp blade knife to her throat. Looking back at Jen, Cliff had a little glee in his eyes. He leans more into Joey as he sniffs her hair. Joey, feeling very frightened, trembles as she stares back at Jen in horror trying her very best not to cry.

Cliff smirked as he kept a steady gaze on Jen. Shaking his head at her - he dared Jen not to make a sudden move.

"If you scream for help I will slit her throat wide open!" Cliff warned.

Jen gazed at Joey letting her know that everything is going to be okay. Not sure if that is true, she had to hold on to hope that Cliff wouldn't do anything to harm Joey if she would cooperate with him. All she needs to do is just give him what he wants, and what he wants is her.

"Cliff, I will come back to you if you would just let Joey go," Jen negotiated.

Cliff snickered as he held the knife tight in his hand. He was itching to get his hands dirty once again. This sweet innocent girl he held tight in his arms seems like the perfect victim to draw a beautiful delicious blood. He wondered how much blood she would spill if he were to slit her throat. One thing is for sure is that it would be a wonderful sight to see. Having to slit this girls throat in front of Jennifer would do nothing more but bring great pleasure to him. It would be some kind of a foreplay between them. Having his girl watch him in action seems to arouse him.

Jen notices a glint in his eyes. She can tell that no matter what - Cliff wants to kill Joey. She can see it in his eyes. No matter what she does or what she says, Cliff is going to kill Joey anyway.

"Cliff! Please! I order you to stop!" Jen exclaimed.

"Order me?" Cliff asked surprised. "Now, Jennifer ... would that be wise?"

Uh-oh. Somehow she feels that she may have made a mistake. Forgetting that Cliff doesn't like people ordering him around would cause him to snap. Jen watched on in horror as Cliff quickly took his knife and swipe the blade across Joey's throat.

Oh no! This could not be happening, she thought as she watched Joey's shocked expressions as she held her hand to her slit throat. Lots of blood started to pour out as it slip threw Joey's fingers.

Joey collapse to the ground as her whole body was starting to get cold. She saw a light flash before her eyes until she succumbs to darkness.

Jen shrill screams escaped her mouth as she stared at Joey willing for her to get back up. But she would not move. Joey's lifeless body lay on the ground before her eyes. This wasn't a joke. This was real. He killed her! He killed her right in front of her! Jen couldn't believe it. The once-feisty brunette is no longer in their lives.

Cliff had an evil smirk planted on his face. He took the knife and ran his fingers across the blade, wiping the blood off of it. He stares down at Jen as he was prepared to charge after her.

Jen made a quick work to turn back around and ran off as fast as she could. She ran on and on through the house determined to find Dawson and Pacey.

John Witter was busy trying to get a hold of the Capeside fire department as he has every police department surrounded Mitch's house. Mitch wasn't lying when he said that there was no way of getting inside the house. That maniac - whoever he is - is clever enough to take the time to bolt the windows and change both doors to metal so the owners have no way of getting in and out of their own home. John was starting to get furious as he couldn't reach the fire department. They are the only ones who have the right equipment of getting inside the house.

He looked over at Doug who is sitting in his police car speaking on his radio, also trying to get a hold of the fire department. He walked over to his eldest son seeing if he have any luck.

Doug sighs out of frustration as he looked up at his father and shook his head.

"Dammit!" Shouted John. "What in the hell is keeping the fire department so busy this time of night!"

He wouldn't show it but John is starting to get really nervous. He is starting to worry about his youngest son Pacey. He may be hard on him but he really does love his son. He believes that Pacey could do better in his life. He refuses to believe that his son's life could be cut short tonight. Pacey has a whole life ahead of him. John is a firm believer that his youngest son is going to accomplish great things when he grows up. Which is why he is constantly on Pacey's case. He sees the potential his son has. Pacey may not always see it that way but this is the only way how John can show his love for him. He loves Pacey with all his heart. In fact, he loves all his kids. Like any loving parent, he wants his kids to be better than he is.

He would never forgive himself if Pacey dies tonight. He would never get the chance to tell his son how much he loves him and how proud he is of him.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Mitch making his way around to the back of the house. Catching his attention, John turns to Doug and told him to keep trying with the fire department as he made his way to follow Mitch out back.

Mitch looked up as he kept his eyes on the roof. There is a small window way up top that leads to the attic. Smiling, he realizes that this could be his only chance of getting inside the house. Looking around his backyard, he finally spotted the ladder that Joey usually uses when she goes inside his son's bedroom window. He was just about to make his way to the ladder when John stopped him.

"Mitch? What are you doing?"

"I have to get inside, John. This is taking way too long," Mitch replied.

John nodded in understanding as he looked at Mitch. Then he spotted the ladder and realize that Mitch must have a plan. "You think that there is a way for you to get in?" John asked as he pointed to the ladder.

Mitch nodded. "The attic. I'm pretty sure that bastard overlooked that area."

John smiled proudly as he nodded his agreement. "Okay," John sighed, "you try the attic while we keep trying with the fire department."

"Sounds like a plan," Mitch said as he made his way to get the ladder.

oOo

Jen looked around in horror as she couldn't get the image of Joey's death out of her head. She didn't even have time to grieve for her loss. Sure, she and Joey have never gotten along but she did see Joey as a potential friend. And the fact that no one deserves to die like that! Joey has done nothing wrong and to think that Cliff thinks that by doing this - it's going to make him win her over? He is dead wrong. It just pushes her even further from him. She would rather die than being seen in his arms by his side.

Jen suddenly stopped crying when she heard someone approaching. Holding her breath as best as she could, she fears that Cliff must have found her. Recognizing the voices, Jen let out a breath of relief as she realizes that it is Dawson and Pacey.

Stepping out of her hiding place she startled the boys as they didn't notice her being there. "Sorry," she said meekly as she couldn't look them in the eyes.

"Jen, where've you been?" Dawson asked as he rushed to her side.

Jen didn't answer right away as she kept silent and focus her eyes on the ground.

Pacey looked around as he then noticed that Jen is alone. "Where's Joey?" He asked.

Jen stiffened at the mention of Joey. How can she tell them of what Cliff had done to her? They would be devastated. Not to mention that they would be angry with her once they find out that it was all her fault! She is the one that caused Joey's death. She is to blame. How could she tell them that Cliff killed Joey because she refuses to stand by him and give him what he wants? That she made him do it by ordering him not to? She knew how important Joey is to the both of them. Both boys love Joey in their own way. She knows because she has the front row seat of witnessing it.

It hurts to know that the one she loves - loves another. It pains her more with the fact that the one she loves will suffer because of the loss of another. She can't see Dawson suffering all because of her. She can't live with herself knowing that she is the reason why Dawson won't be able to see Joey again. She couldn't bear it.

Dawson notices the stiffness in Jen. Lately, he hasn't been very nice to her but tonight he will make an exception. Leaning closer to her, he wraps his arms around her as he pulls her close. It seems that she needs him right now. She needs him to comfort her and that's exactly what he will give her.

Surprised by his actions, Jen didn't hesitate when she leaned her head against his shoulder. Closing her eyes, she enjoys the warmth and comfort he gave her. But she soon realizes that this feeling can not last any longer. The real issue is still hanging above them. Sadly, she removes herself from his arms as she finally managed to look him in the eye.

Noticing the impatience toward Pacey who is standing beside them, she turns her attention to him as well. Just by the look of him, she can tell that he is really worried about Joey and waiting for her to reply back to him about Joey's whereabouts. Jen sighed deeply as she mustered up the courage to finally tell them what happened to Joey. She couldn't hold back any longer. There is no way to avoid it since they are going to find out anyway.

"Actually ... there is something very important that I have to tell both of you," Jen started.

Both Pacey and Dawson looked at each other more worried now than ever as they turned their attention back to Jen. Without saying a word any further, Jen slowly started to walk towards Dawson's bedroom. Both boys - worried and confused - quickly followed suit as they reached his bedroom.

Jen turned back to face the boys. "I think you both should sit down for what I'm about to tell you," she gestured towards the bed.

Without asking any questions, they both moved to the bed and sat down. Looking up at Jen, they both waited for her to explain.

Fidgeting with her hands, Jen started pacing as she began to talk or more like a stammer. "So the thing is Joey found me in the basement and released me. We snuck upstairs and I thought we were all clear since there wasn't a sign of Cliff anywhere but somehow he must have fooled me because he came out of nowhere and got a hold of Joey and so I began to panic and tried to reason with him to release Joey but he was so adamant to want to kill Joey and so he did!" She said all in one breath.

Stunned, both Dawson and Pacey stared at Jen wide-eyed as they both said at the same time, "What!?"

"I'm sorry!" Jen cried. "I couldn't save Joey!"

"Wait! Just, wait a minute! You mean to tell us that Joey is dead!?" Pacey said in disbelief. There is no way that the love of his life is no longer breathing in this world.

"I'm sorry!" Was all she can say as she continues to cry.

His heart shattered as he couldn't believe what he just heard. Joey ... his Joey is ... dead? No. It couldn't be. She can't be dead. He didn't even have the chance to tell her how he really feels. He didn't even have the chance to hold her and kiss her the way he wants too. He never got the chance to say those eight letter; three words. 'I love you.'

Dawson, on the other hand, kept his focus on Jen. He heard the words but it doesn't seem to grasp him at the moment. There is no way that his best friend in the entire world is dead right now. It just can't be. But what's been going through his mind right now is Pacey's reaction towards the news of Joey's passing. Pacey's concern for Joey isn't just a friendly matter. It's deeper than that. His reaction is more like a man who loves a woman. What Dawson just realize is the fact that Pacey is in love with Joey. When did this happen? He doesn't know. All he knows is that at this very moment, he doesn't have time to react to this big revelation. He will deal with Pacey about it later. Assuming that they will make it out of here alive, that is. Right now, looking at Jen, he can tell that she really needs him at the moment.

Standing up, Dawson went straight towards Jen as he stilled her movements by wrapping his arms around her. He let her continue to sob into his shirt as she leans her head up against his shoulder. She kept mumbling the words 'I'm sorry' under her breath as he pats her back soothingly.

Pacey was enraged. He wants nothing more than to find the guy who took the life of his love. Deciding on just doing so, Pacey shot up from the bed and rush towards the door.

"Where are you going, Pacey?" Dawson stopped him.

"I'm going to find that son of a -"

"Are you looking for me?" Cliff interrupted as he storms into Dawson's bedroom.

Pacey didn't have time to react as Cliff quickly snatch a hold of him firmly by the throat. Gasping for air, Pacey's face was turning all shades of purple as he tries to fight Cliff off. Realizing that there is no use of trying, Cliff continues to squeeze the life out of Pacey as he decides to give up and join the love of his life. Pressing harder onto Pacey's throat, Cliff shook him roughly as the lifeless body went limp. Cliff smirked with satisfaction as he dropped Pacey's body to the floor.

Two down, two more to go, Cliff thought as he turns to Dawson and Jen. Not happy with the sight before his eyes, he was ready to kill his next victim. He is going to show Jennifer what pain is really like by killing the person that she loves right in front of her.

Realizing that Cliff has them trapped by blocking their only way of escaping, Dawson pushes Jen behind him as he was ready to protect her from Cliff.

Cliff smirked with astonishment at Dawson's actions. He scoffed at the thought of Dawson would actually do some kind of harm to him. As if! The guy can keep dreaming for all he cares as he got ready to take them both down.

Cliff acted quickly as both Dawson and Jen didn't know what hit them as everything around them went totally blank.

oOo

Once again in a haze, Jen came too as she looked around at her surroundings. It seems that Cliff had her tied up in a chair back in the basement. But this time she is not the only one who is held, hostage. Dawson is also tied to a chair right across from her. Looking around once again she couldn't see Cliff anywhere as she tries to get Dawson's attention.

Dawson finally came too as he looked up with a jolt. Looking around he notices that he somehow ended up in the basement. Noticing Jen sitting across from him tied to a chair, he was about to get up and go to her only to realize that he, too, is tied to a chair.

"Jen, don't worry. I'll get us out of here," Dawson said as he moved around in the chair trying to see if he can loosen the rope.

"And who are you? Superman?" Cliff asked incredulously as he stepped out of the shadows.

Dawson and Jen looked with fright in their eyes. They both know that Cliff is just as determined to kill them just as he had Pacey and Joey. There is no way out of this. They are going to die tonight. They can see it in his eyes.

"You're not going to get away with this! My father is going to find you and he will put a stop to this!" Dawson yelled eagerly.

"Oh, we'll see about that," Cliff grinned evilly. "But too bad you won't have the privilege to see dear old dad when the time comes. I'm sure you'll be dead before he decides to get here. And that's if he can get inside the house," he added.

"Don't act so smug," Jen warned. "I'm sure Mr. Leery will figure out a way to get inside his own house."

"And if he does ... what makes you think that he can beat me?" Cliff asked cockily.

"Don't underestimate my father. He could rip you to shreds if he wanted too," Dawson said proudly.

"Well, if that time comes, I will look forward to it," Cliff said mockingly. "But as it still remains - you die tonight!"

"No! You sick, bastard! He didn't do anything wrong!" Jen cried.

"Well neither did the other two but that didn't stop me from killing them, Jennifer," Cliff chided; matter of factly.

Jen just gave a sad but disgusted look as she tried to wriggle her way out of the rope just as Dawson did earlier. She notices the way Cliff smirked at her as he made his way towards Dawson. At this moment, she knew that this is Cliff's revenge all along. He wants her to suffer just as he had that night. She didn't do anything to stop them from hurting him. Now she can't do a damn thing to stop him from hurting Dawson. No, correction - he's going to murder Dawson right in front of her knowing she is helpless to stop him. Pacey and Joey were just the icing on the cake. His main focus was on Dawson all along. Cliff knew how much Dawson means to her which is why he saved him for last.

Looking down at Dawson, he couldn't help but hate that pretty boy who is staring back up at him. He couldn't stand the fact that his precious Jennifer found someone else; someone like this chump who doesn't seem to appreciate her as much as he has. But he is going to change all that. Tonight, he is going to put an end to all the wrong guys Jennifer has been involved with and she will soon realize that he is the man that she should have been with all along.

Without so much as a warning, Cliff punched Dawson right in the jaw hard; already busted his cheekbone along with it. But he didn't stop. He kept on going as he continues to beat Dawson in the face repeatedly. Big powerful, he punches till his face didn't look so pretty anymore. It was barely recognizable. He heard Jennifer's screams as she cried out for him to stop. But he couldn't do it - he was on a roll.

Careful to not beat the guy to death, Cliff stopped as soon as he realizes that Dawson was pretty close to dying. Next, he made his way over to the drill he found stored way in the back on a shelf. Grinning evilly, he turns to face Dawson from behind. Jen's eyes grew wide as she saw the drill in Cliff's hand. Testing the drill, Cliff pushes the button back and forth as the drill went on and off.

Jen shook in horror as she realizes that Cliff is going to drill a hole into Dawson. There is nothing for her to do but to watch. She can only watch as the boy next door dies in front of her eyes. Cliff has the power now. He is determined to end Dawson's life. She is too powerless to stop him ...

The sound of the drill and the gruesome screams from Dawson would never leave Jen till the day she dies. This is a traumatic day for her as she watches Cliff drill through Dawson's stomach from behind. She watched as all his intestines spill out right in front of her. Too much blood spurts out right on her; covering her entire front body.

The screams die down as Dawson's life cease from him. At that moment, Jen looks at the horrible mess Cliff made. She couldn't hold it in any longer as she puked out whatever substance she had left in her. Then after that ... she passed out.

After John left Mitch's sight, Mitch made quick work going to his shed to get his hunting rifle. Searching through the shelf, Mitch smirked when he finally found the bullets he was desperately looking for. Placing the bullets inside his rifle - Mitch was armed and ready. Stepping out of the shed, he went to the ladder and place it aside from his house. Climbing up the ladder he finally reached the attic window.

The window is pretty small but Mitch is confident that he can squeeze his way through it. Testing the window, Mitch lifts it up and smiled brightly when he realizes that this is the only window that psycho fails to lock. Grabbing his rifle from over his shoulder, Mitch placed the rifle inside the attic first before making his way through the small window. Finally he made his way in the attic, Mitch picked up his rifle and place it back over his shoulder. Looking around the dark attic, Mitch couldn't help but feel happy to finally find his way into his house. Now he can go and look for his son and save the others...

"I can't believe we lost her! Where do you think he may have taken her?" Pacey asked both Dawson and Joey.

They all looked at each other with worried expressions on their faces. The last time they saw Jen was in the kitchen when they all ran for their lives. One moment she was with them and then the next, she was gone.

"They couldn't have gone far. My guess is that he might have taken her to the basement," Dawson said.

"That makes sense. I mean, that could have been the place where he was hiding all along," Joey agreed.

"So what are we standing around here for? Let's go to the basement and get that bastard!" Said, Pacey.

"Pacey, calm down! We need a plan. We can't just bust in there!"

"Joey's right. We have to come up with a plan," Dawson said.

"Jen may not have time for a plan," Pacey said worriedly. "While we're standing around trying to come up with a plan - he could have killed Jen by now."

Joey knew she shouldn't be feeling like this - especially now with what's going on - but she couldn't help it. She hates the fact how Pacey is so concerned over Jen. He must have some feelings for her if he is so worried about her. And here she thought that she was special. Was she reading it wrong? She thought her and Pacey were growing closer. Sure, she and Pacey went back to their old ways since their pretend relationship, but it was different. They share this secret that no one else knows about. Behind all that bickering façade; there was an understanding between them. Sure she's worried about Jen, don't get her wrong, but she can't help to feel jealous with how worried Pacey is towards her. She always did have a feeling that Pacey possibly likes Jen but seeing his concern for her proves that it just might be true.

Pacey looked over at Joey glad to have her by his side. He doesn't know what he would do if that guy had gotten her instead. One thing for sure is that he would go crazy. The mere thought of losing her is enough to kill him; himself. He can't imagine the pain he would go through if that ever happens. Right now, there's someone else that needs saving. Yeah, Pacey likes Jen but only as a friend. Nothing more. Jen is the only one who knows about his feelings for Joey, and she supports him on that. Jen is the only person he can talk to when it comes down to Joey. She understands what he is going through since she is in the same boat with Dawson. That is why he is so concerned about her at the moment. He doesn't want to lose the only friend that he can relate too.

"Pacey, I understand that you are concerned but we have to prepare ourselves. We can't just go down there without a weapon to protect ourselves from that freak," Dawson reasoned.

Pacey nodded. "You're right. Which is why I think we should start looking in the kitchen," he started as he made his way back there.

oOo

She couldn't believe what had happened. Dawson is … dead? She doesn't know how to breathe at the moment. The air seems to be suffocating her. She has to get out of here. She can't take this anymore.

Jen slowly came too as she opened her eyes. Looking around, she notices that the setting seemed different. For starters, she is not tied to a chair by a rope covered in Dawson's blood. Second, there doesn't seem to be any trace of Dawson's gruesome dead body anywhere. Last time she checked she could have sworn that she and Dawson were tied to a chair facing each other. What happened? Why isn't everything like it seemed? Was she dreaming this entire time? What is going on here?

"Hello, Jennifer. Finally, that drug effect that I have dosed you with has worn off," Cliff said as he made his presence known.

Jen suddenly realizes that all the events that had happened were all in her head. The first time when she woke up, she was still in a drug induced sleep. She thought that she was up that whole time but she wasn't. None of the events that happened were real. So, therefore, all her friends are still alive! Now she can breathe. She can breathe knowing that her friends are safe and sound.

He didn't kill them. That's all that matters...

"Surprised to see me?" Cliff continued. "I bet you thought that I was dead. But as you can see … I am well and alive!"

"What happened to Amanda and the others? You killed them, didn't you?"

"I had to do what I thought was necessary. They were trying to kill me all because of my love for you," he tried to explain.

"Don't you see how sick and twisted that is?" Jen couldn't help the words from coming out of her mouth. "You killed five people in cold blood and you think that's supposed to be okay?"

Cliff covered his ears as he walked around pacing. "No no no … you don't get it, Jennifer! I had to do what was right. They were trying to keep me away from you!"

At that moment, Jen realizes how crazy and paranoid Clifford really is. The guy needs serious help. The sad thing about it is she felt responsible. She didn't realize that her act of kindness towards him would cause him to be this way. If she wasn't so kind towards him maybe he wouldn't have fallen so deeply in love with her. Maybe she would have avoided all of this. But now is not the time to think of maybes. It happened and now she has to deal with it.

oOo

Dear God if you can hear me … I've never come to you in prayer in all my life but if you can hear me now - I pray to you to make sure that my son Pacey is okay. Please God, I beg of you! Please let my son be alive and well. I pray this to you through your son Jesus Christ - Amen.

John Witter had never said a heartfelt prayer before in his life. But tonight is a good night to start. Especially now since it involves his son. Pacey's life is in danger right now and there is nothing that he could do to save him. They finally got a hold of the fire department but they are taking their precious time coming. A time that John Witter does not have! He needs to get in that house like right now! There is no time to lose. Pacey could be dead right now for all he knows. But that is something he does not want to think about. His only main focus is to find a way to get inside that house and get his son. That is what is most important.

From a distance, John could hear the fire trucks heading their way. "It's about damn time!" He shouted as relief rush through him.

The fire trucks pulled up in front of the house as John made way to talk to the chief of the fire department. He told him about the conditions of the doors and how it is hard for them to get it open. On hearing this, the chief reassures John that they have the right tools and equipment to get the doors open. John had never been so pleased in his life from hearing that. Sure he knew that the fire department might have something but it didn't seem real until he actually hears or sees it for himself.

The chief ordered his men to get the tools ready as they all quickly gathered at the front door - ready to knock it down so they could get inside the house …

Dawson, Pacey, and Joey slowly and carefully made their way down to the basement. They can hear Jen talking to Cliff who seems to be not be in his right state of mind at the moment. They are all just relieved to know that Jen is alive and well.

Jen spotted her friends from the corner of her eye. Keeping her focus on Cliff, she didn't want to attract any attention towards her friends. Cliff didn't seem to notice as he kept rambling on about what he is doing is right. He is going on venting to Jen as she saw Dawson slowly creeping up towards Cliff holding a baseball bat high up ready to strike. Cliff, on the other hand, notices Jen's gaze as he senses that someone is behind him.

Dawson was just about to strike his bat at Cliff when Cliff quickly turns and dodges his swing. Then Cliff made a quick move towards Dawson as he successfully took the bat from Dawson and swung really hard into Dawson's left shoulder causing him to cry out in pain as he fell to the floor. Dawson tries to compose himself as he holds his left shoulder tightly with his right hand. He realizes that he couldn't move his shoulder as it seems that Cliff had broken it. Pacey and Joey both run to Dawson as they knell beside him.

Cliff threw the baseball bat aside as he watched the scene in front of him. Rolling his eyes at the three idiots in front of him, Cliff reached in his back pants pocket and took out his handgun as he pointed it at them.

They didn't seem to notice since their main concern was focused on Dawson until they heard Jen gasp. Looking up, all three of them saw Cliff holding them at gunpoint.

"Get up! Now!" Cliff ordered as he held his gun firmly in his hands.

All three did as they were told as they helped Dawson to his feet. They stood still as they waited to see what Cliff would do next.

Meanwhile …

Mitch had finally made his way downstairs in the hallway when he heard someone yelling from the basement. He then notices that the basement door is open. Stepping through the door, he slowly made his way down. Holding his rifle up, Mitch was ready for the showdown that he was about to encounter. As he made it to the basement, he saw Jen strapped to a chair. He then shifted his gaze towards the guy holding a gun pointing at Dawson and his friends.

"Put the gun down! Now!" Mitch shouted as he aimed his rifle at Cliff.

Surprising them all, everyone turns their attention to Mitch. Dawson had never been so happy to see his father at this very moment.

"Dad!" Dawson choked out through his still throbbing pain of a shoulder.

"Dawson? Are you guys alright?" Mitch asked as he kept his focus and aim at the guy with a gun.

"We're okay, Mr. Leery. Is my father with you?" Pacey asked in hopes that his dad is here too.

"He's here, Pacey. He's outside working on getting in the house," Mitch replied.

Cliff chuckled a bit as he had to interrupt this little reunion. "And how, prey tell, did you manage to get in?" He couldn't help to ask.

Mitch smirked at him as he continues to point his rifle at him. "I have to admit you did a real number of making sure to block all access to the house except for one," Mitch paused for a moment as he gave him a smug look. "You failed to look to the attic."

The attic? Cliff didn't even know they had an attic. When he came to inspect the house there wasn't a storage stairway that would lead to an attic. Then it dawned on him that there could be a trap door from the ceiling to pull down that would lead to an attic. How can he be such an idiot!

Mitch couldn't help the glee from his eyes as he notices the guys realization. "You should give it up. The police are outside ready to take you in. It's only a matter of minutes before they find their way in the house."

"You're bluffing."

"Fine. If you don't, believe me, we can do this the hard way. Either you put down that gun and surrender or I shoot you right here where you stand. It's up to you."

Cliff is not scared of this man. He is not going to give himself up that easily. He came here for a purpose and he is going to see it through. He is going to get away with this and Jennifer is going to be his! There is no way he is going to back out now. The way he sees it, he has a better chance to kill this guy before he tries to kill him. Then he can deal with these three idiots as he grabs Jennifer and escapes - now knowing that there is an attic to escape too.

Mitch watched as the guy move his gun from the kids and shifted it towards him! Before he knew what was happening, he heard a gun went off and Dawson shouting out to him. Then John Witter and the rest of the police force barge into the basement as they saw the scene in front of them. Holding up his gun, John searched for the guy until he found him lying on the ground with blood pouring out from his left chest. The guy was coughing and wheezing as he tries to fight for his life.

Mitch dropped his rifle as he soon realizes that he shot the guy! It was his rifle that had gone off and he shot the guy point blank right to his chest next to his heart! He watched as the guy stopped coughing and altogether stopped breathing. His eyes were still wide open as a single tear rolled down as soon as his life was taken from him. Mitch almost felt bad for killing him but the guy was going to kill him first! He had no choice! He soon felt Dawson beside him and he quickly pulled his son to him in a hug. Happy to see that his son is okay.

John didn't waste any time either as he gave a silent thanks to God for answering his prayer that his son will be alright. He rushed to Pacey as he, too, pulled his son into a big embrace. "Pacey, I'm so glad you're okay. You don't know how worried I was," John cried as he held Pacey tight in his arms.

Pacey couldn't find any words as he held tightly into his father's embrace.

Doug was happy to see his younger brother alive as he didn't want to interrupt the father/son bonding that Pacey and their father is currently in. Instead, he let them have their moment as he ordered the men to get the ambulance here so they could get the body. Then he went to check on Joey and Jen.

The ambulance finally arrived as they carried two bodies from the house; Amanda's and Cliff's. The police got the statement from the kids and Dawson had to get treated at the hospital for his shoulder. They had to put his arm in a sling as he had fractured his left shoulder. Mrs. Ryan is doing well as she had been released from the hospital and had been reunited with her granddaughter. While Doug took Joey back home to her sister and Bodie. Mitch decided to stay at the house for the rest of the week with his son until Gail comes back. In the meantime, Mitch cleaned up the house and put things back in order as he undid the damage that Cliff had created.

Everyone moved on with their lives after that night but it still hunts them. Cliff may be dead thanks to Mitch but the nightmare still remains …

AN: That's the end of this chapter, I really hope that you guys like it. First, I just want to express how much I love Scott Foley as an actor! I loved him on Scream 3 when he played the killer and as Cindy's brother. I kind of took his character from that into this show Dawson's Creek as his other character Cliff Elliot. Combining the two together was fun and I really enjoy writing his character to the best of my ability. It wasn't easy to think up this storyline and how I wanted to take it. I had so many different scenarios on how to come up with this storyline and ended up with this! LOL. I just wanted to make it entertaining as possible. Like I've mentioned before, this is my very first try on writing something horror/thriller.

Character Insight:

Clifford Elliot: The not so popular kid who is marked as a nerd or a geek. Tired of the way how people treat him as if he is a nobody. His love for Jen is very strong and very deadly! Cliff had waited two years to recover and train himself to become the guy that no one wants to mess with! He finally sought out his revenge on the people that treated him badly and tried to kill him, or rather left him for dead. Meanwhile, he made his way to Capeside and found Jen who he have been longing for. His intentions was to spook her up a bit and take her back with him so they can be together only to find himself losing his life in the end.

Mitch/John: Both fathers trying to fight for their sons in their own way. Mitch try to explain to John about the dangers that their sons are in but at first John didn't believe him because he thought that this is Capeside and there usually are no psychos here that would do such a thing. But then realizing how serious Mitch seems, John took consideration that maybe he should take action and see what is going on. He then find out that the kids are really in danger and it shows how much John actually really cares for his son Pacey. The same goes for Dawson and Mitch. Lately they haven't been in good terms considering with what is going on between Mitch and Gail, but they are willing to push their little issues aside as they show the love is still there when they are facing such dangerous situations.

Dawson/Jen: There was a little moment between these two characters in this chapter. I wanted to show despite the differences that they have, Dawson is willing to be there for Jen in time of need. It was cute even if it is just all in Jen's head. Also, how awesome was Dawson's death scene?! I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed writing that! LOL.

Pacey/Joey: There is never a dull moment between these two. I absolutely love them and the fact that they STILL haven't told each other how they feel for one another is just pure frustrating! LOL. But fun at the same time ;) Of course, every moment of them is great and I especially love the little moments they have when showing some kind of affection towards each other. It's kind of sweet that Pacey is willing to die for Joey or rather join her in death. Again, it was all in Jen's head but not so far from the truth!
