Red Ribbons of Fate
Tears ran down Florence's face as she curled up on the Hospital Wing bed, memories flashed across her mind of just how she had managed to end up in the situation she was in. On the bedside table next to her bed rested a broken time turner with a red ribbon wrapped around it.
'Stupid ribbon, even if it is the normal public opinion that tying something to a time turner and than using it will not have an effect on what happens I know differently' Florence thought with a sniffle as she clinged to the bed sheets in search of comfort, no matter how small it would be 'I feel like I am a translucent person, I am not meant to be here, they shoved me into the Hospital Wing just so it would be easier to hide me.'
Not bothering to hide or stop the fresh wave of tears that fell down her face Florence turned and buried her face into her pillow only to freeze as a soft sound reached her ears.
The sound of the large heavy oak doors of the Hospital Wing opening slowly with a creek.
Florence felt as if her breathing stopped, her tears tried out at the thought of someone watching her while her body froze, not moving a single inch, in fear of just who had walked into the hospital wing.
When no more sound reached Florence's ears she let out a soft sigh of relief 'I guess it was just the wind, those doors are really old and it is summer so I bet they have a window open.'
Turning her head to the left so it would be easier to breath Florence suddenly found herself staring into a pair of soft caring chestnut brown eyes. It took a few seconds for it to sink in but once it did Florence let out a loud startled shout.
"I am sorry, I am sorry, I did not mean to scare you," the owner of the brown eyes said quickly, their worried and apologetic tone making Florence freeze, an attacker would not say sorry for scaring her, "I just heard about what happened, the teachers should not gossip in the hallway with lots of students around them if they do not want to be over heard, and well...I thought that you might like someone to be your friend, I know what it is like to not have a single friend and well...to sum it all up I am a Hufflepuff."
At the person's words Florence's lips twitched upwards as she took in her surprised visitor. He was obviously a student and from his earlier words and the crest on his black school robes he was from the Hufflepuff house, a fact that made Florence feel slightly safer. His chestnut brown eyes where framed by mess sandy blond hair and on his face he wore a small smile that clearly said he meant no harm. It also helped that she could not find a hint of a wand in his hands.
"You want to be my friend?" Florence asked in surprise as she quickly wiped her tears away and sat up, "You do know who I am don't you?"
"You mean the whole time travelling girl thing?" he said with a lop sided smile that made Florence giggle slightly, "I know but I do not care, just do me a favour and do not tell the Professor's that I have been visiting you and my little visit has been after hours."
"That I can do," Florence replied as she sat up with a smile feeling better than she had all day, "What is your name? My name is Florence."
"I did not introduce myself? Whoops! I need to brush up on my manners," the boy said causing Florence to offer him a weak smile, "My name is Ernie, Ernie Macmillan, it is nice to meet you Florence."
"It is nice to meet you too Ernie," Florence said with a smile for it to disappear when she spotted a familiar red ribbon poking out from her new friend's robe pocket, "W-What is that? In your robe pocket."
Frowning slightly in confusion Ernie followed Florence's gaze until he found himself looking at the red ribbon his mother had given him before he left for Hogwarts that year. She had told him that somewhere out there was a matching ribbon that his one true love who he would marry would hold, or that was how the fairytale his mother had told him.
"My ribbon?" Ernie asked in confusion as he quickly shoved it back into his school robe pocket, he did not want to take a single chance with it that might led to him losing his precious item, "It is just a piece of red ribbon that my mother gave me this summer before I returned to Hogwarts. It is thanks o this little bit of ribbon that my mum and dad started to date each other, then get married and well...I am here now. Why do you ask for?"
"I..I have seen that ribbon back in my own time," Florence answered as she shot the robe pocket a dark look, "I found it lying around outside on the school grounds so I picked it up and I thought it would be a good idea to tie it onto a time turner that I was going to use so I could go back in time and stop myself from making a complete fool of myself in front of my whole class!"
"You...you have the other piece of red ribbon?" Ernie asked in surprise only for hope and excitement to find their way into his voice, "Do you mean it? You are not just playing around with me?"
"No, I am not and if you want it back then you can have it back," Florence said as she shot a dark glare at the innocent looking object with the red ribbon tied to it, "It is right there, on my bedside table, the evil thing."
With large hopeful brown eyes Ernie followed Florence's gaze to her bedside table only to find the piece of red ribbon that he had hoped for tied neatly to the broken time turner.
End.
