Chapter Fifteen

A Favor

Eversince Connar's talk with Jaden her dreams have been less intense. Instead of feeling nervous, she had calm down a lot more, and paid closer attention to the details.

This well again...

She thought to herself.

I think...I know what I have to do.

Class ended with the normal clatter of students. Connar's usual pow wow containing herself, with Syrus, and Chumley gathered around a sleeping Jaden chatting about what they could draw on his face. Before anyone could even make the first attempt he woke up stretching and the scrambled around to haide the magic markers.

Chazz sat away from them, gathering his materials while he leered down at their idiocy and turned up his nose.

Jeez...how lame are these losers!?
he thought to himself. Even so. he couldn't help but watch them for a bit longer.

"Well I don't know about anyone of you guys," said Chumley,"But I could sure use a grilled cheese."

"You're gonna turn into a grilled cheese~" Connar giggled jokingly.

"Pfft, What?" Jaden snorted laughing into his arms.

Connar ended up averting her gaze and awkwardly shrugging.

"I dunno, it's something Zane used to say to us when we were little." Connar blushed.

"Oh you mean like back when he would always ask us what we wanted for lunch?" said Syrus,"And we would always tell him Chicken Nuggets?"

"You're gonna turn into a chicken nugget~!" The two old friends did their best Zane impressions before bursting into laughter at each other's bad impersonation.

"I still find it hard to believe Zane as a babysitter." Jaden snickered,"And he cooked...chicken nuggets." he snorted.

"Yeah well, even Zane was little once." Syrus laughed. "And they were Dinosaur nuggets! The good stuff!"

"When he didn't burn them." Connar muttered.

Jaden and Chumley feigned a dramatized gasp.

"He BURNED the chicken nuggets!?" gasped Jaden,"For shame!"

"Zane didn't burn the chicken nuggets!" Syrus stated in defense of his older brother. Though, he wasn;t all that convincing,"...He just made them...uhm...extra crispy."

"He burned them." Connar stated, and Jaden continued to snicker and snort at the scenes in his imagination.

Chazz continued to watch them from afar, feeling himself get more and more annoyed.

Jeez she and that Jaden guy sure got chummy didn't they!?

He huffed in frustration.

Stupid slacker...he's turning her into one too!

"You know talking about chicken nuggets is starting to make me hungry!" Syrus stated in an attempt to escape the playful argument on weather or not Zane really did burn the chicken nuggets.

"Got me there too, Sy." said Chumley."Maybe we should go see if lunch is ready yet."

"Sounds good to me." said Jaden,"You coming Connie?"

"Actually Jaden, if you don't mind..." her voice got softer and she looked down shyly,"I'd like a moment of your time to talk to you about something...alone?"

"Alone!?" Syrus and Chumley stated together. Jaden however seemed to show no over reaction. He just blinked and sat up straight.

"Sure Connie." he said to her and turned to his friends behind him,"We'll catch up all right." He said smiling as he waved them off.

'Well okay then..." said Chumley,"Let's hurry Syrus, if we get there early we might be able to get seconds."

"Aww...Why does Jaden get all the girls." Syrus joked,"Wait, Chumley...wait up!" He called out, running after his room mate. The one time Chumley would willingly run anywhere was if food was involved.

"All right Connie, they left." said Jaden turning his attention back to the nervous pink haired girl,"What's up?"

"Actually, would you mind walking with me?" she blushed shyly," I don't really wanna talk here."

"Sure thing." He said standing and holding out his arm for her to move ahead,"Lead the way~" he grinned.

With a friendly smile Connar nodded and took her place beside him motioning to move forward and match his pace.

Chazz, who was watching from the corner was was thrown for a loop as he watched the two leave together...alone.

Wait...they're staying back ALONE together!?

The whole idea only frustrated him more.

What could those two possibly have to talk about in private!?

He clenched his his fist watching them pass him by, not even noticing his presence.

Well whatever it is...you can bet The Chazz will find out!

Connar and Jaden walked together at a slow pace in a comfortable silence, completely unaware that someone was watching them from the shadows.

" Be honest Connie." Jaden snickered,"Did Zane really burn the chicken nuggets?"

"Just because that guy can duel, doesn't mean that he can cook." she stated,"I stand by my argument.

Grrh this is STUPID!

Chazz grumbled as he listened in from around the corner.

This can't be the reason Connar requested Jaden's company in private..."

He was about to just roll his eyes and move on to leave the two alone with their bad jokes when a sudden change in tone caught his attention.

"So what's up, Connie?" Jaden suddenly asked in a serious tone,"Is it about what you talked to me about in your room yesterday?"

Wait...that loser was in her room yesterday!?

Chazz instantly leaned back against the wall and listened.

"Don't worry, I didn't tell anyone what you told me." Jaden said in a reassuring tone,"That story seemed really personal. I get the feeling that not even Syrus knows about it." he said softly,"So I didn't say anything to anyone."

Connar sighed softly.

"Thanks Jaden...I really appreciate that." she said softly,"But there's something else I want to talk to you about."

As their voices lowered into a hush Chazz pressed in a little closer to listen.

"I see...Huh? A Well? Wait...tonight!?" Jaden blinked.

"Yeah...I think, I know where I need to go." she whispered back,"Jaden...will you come with me?"

A long silence settled between the two, The brunette held her gaze, as though probing her mind with his eyes in order to find what was going on inside. He could sense the seriousness within her. So without giving it much further thought he nodded.

"Sure thing Connie." he said to her,"You got it."

"Thanks Jaden." she sighed in relief,"Then...I guess I will see you tonight."

As the two separated in the hall. Chazz began to panic and quickly looked for a place to duck and hide until it was clear.

"So...you two are planning to sneak away together into the night?" Chazz muttered to himself as he replayed the tidbits of conversation in his head trying to put the pieces together. While it was true Chazz prided himself on his supposed purpose in the "bigger picture" plan that his brothers had in mind for him, he actually enjoyed playing detective like this. Though that was most likely just a cover up to use as an excuse to be nosy. "Just where is it that you're going I wonder..."

He pondered for a bit. But thinking about it was only pissing him off even more.

FINE!
He let out a huff in frustration.

Guess I will just have to find out!
