Alex Mason listened to Victor Reznov in the mines where he had been forced to work since his failed assassination attempt on Fidel Castro. Reznov, despite being Russian, had a deep hatred for the men that had put Mason in Vorkuta. Dragovich, Kravchenko, and another man named Steiner.
He listed to Reznov as he talked about the final days of World War II. After the war, he and his best friend, his brother in arms, Dimitri Petrenko along with others went to the arctic to deal with the remnants of the Third Reich and find a German scientist, who was Friedrich Steiner, and find a weapon called Nova6.
"We had found what we were looking for...Nova 6. The German weapon of mass destruction now belonged to Mother Russia." Reznov said, remembering what had happened."Or so I seemed. Our victory was to be short-lived." He sighed."Dragovich wanted to see the effects of the poison first hand. It was also an opportunity to remove a thorn in his side. I had long known of their distrust. What kind of men they were. It was a betrayal I should have foreseen."
Reznov closed his eyes at the memory.
Dimitri Petrenko tried opening the door, banging at it. It didn't matter. He, Reznov, along with other soldiers had been betrayed by Dragovich. He and two others had been thrown in here while his friend, Reznov, had been thrown into another room next to him.
Suddenly, Dimitri heard a hiss. He looked to see the gas, Nova 6, come out of the vents. He coughed for a moment before trying to open the metal door again. He felt his face burning and he kept coughing. He looked at Reznov again before his coughing turned into puking. His eyes were going dark but he still stood.
He ran to the glass, banging on it weakly until his body slowly slumped to the ground.
"Dimitri Petrenko was a hero...instead of giving his life for the glory of the motherland, he died for nothing...like an animal." Mason saw the pain on Reznov's face."He should have died in Berlin...I only hope he is in a better place..."
Dimitri gasped for air, his eyes opening quickly. He kept breathing the clean air when he felt...different. He didn't feel cold at all. He felt hot. He saw his PPSh-41 on the ground.
Is it the gas or-
He then looked around his surrounding to see nothing but...a desert? There was no sand but the only brown ground. He looked around and his eyes widened when he saw two little girls in front of him. What shocked him was how these two girls were green and had tails growing out the back of their head. His breathing fastened as he looked upon horror at the girls.
The little girls were afraid but one of them spoke up."My...my Basic isn't very good...but are you a Republic soldier?"
