(Oremonogatari x My Hero Academia)
Chapter One: My Story
There was a slight tremor in the streets of Musutafu City. The busy pedestrians slowly began to notice that something was wrong before one of them, a businesswoman, suddenly screamed out in terror and pointed down the street.
A hulking mass of a man was slowly trudging down the middle of the road. He was about nine feet tall, and wide and buff, an absolute unit of a man with pale skin and thick dreadlocks.
"Out the way, it's time for my snacks," the man howled deeply, with a laugh.
Cars were pushed aside with ease, and people scattered to avoid his ire. He eventually came to a stop at a cake shop, leaning down and gazing at the snacks in the window.
"Wonderful—-"
SMACK-!!!
The villainous man found himself being toppled over suddenly as someone slammed into him. He gasped as he hit the ground and slowly propped himself up, gazing at who had done so.
"A Pro Hero?" The villain squinted in the sunlight, seeing the strong-looking man above him, a silhouette from the sunlight being blocked behind him.
The man grabbed the villain's arm and suddenly pulled him up with surprising strength. He got ready to retaliate as he got up to his feet, but looker down in disbelief as the person who had ran into him bowed deeply in apology. He was a very tall and broad-guy, wearing what appeared to be a black school uniform.
"I'm sorry! I was in a hurry and caused you trouble," he spoke sternly.
"Uh….."
Those watching around were equally as confused, their assumptions being dashed as they watched the idiot they assumed was their Hero stand up again and then jog right past the villain.
"I promise I'll be more attentive!"
As the guy ran off, everyone watched him go in silence.
"Was that… a Middle School uniform?" Someone finally questioned.
The villain shook his head and turned back towards those nearby, a big smirk emerging on his face.
"Well… Where was I…?"
Fear began to resonate through the citizens once more, but then a shout emerged:
"Stop Villain!"
Suddenly, a Hero flew in and kicked the villain hard in the head, sending him into the nearby wall.
Completely oblivious, the Middle Schooler from before was jogging off briskly down the street, not hearing the crashes and explosions of battle behind him.
"My name is Takeo Gouda, and I'm 15 years old. This is my story."Takeo crossed over a small pedestrian bridge and spotted a familiar blonde-haired boy awaiting him, wearing a similar uniform to his.
"Suna!"
Sunakawa turned towards Takeo, his usual calm demeanor about him as his large friend rushed up to him, huffing and puffing from exertion.
"...You almost missed the train even though we got up early," Sunakawa commented.
"I know! Theres nothing I could do if I left my stuff at home," Takeo complained, motioning to his school bag.
"Maybe if you were more attentive—"
"I'm trying!"
"You sure you want to try out for the Hero course?"
"Of course! I know we'll both make it in!"
As the two got onto their train, many around them scooted away due to Takeo's intimidating size, sitting at 6 foot 7 inches tall, and as wide as a bear.
"Suna and I have been best friends since childhood. We're almost exact opposites. Like some tend to avoid me, while he's really popular with girls… Except, well...""I hate you."
"Yuck."
"That's gross…"
"Every girl whose ever confessed to him suffered the same fate…"Sunakawa stood suddenly and moved without saying a word, allowing an elderly woman to take his seat. Takeo smirked at his selfless friend in admiration.
"Yet he's still an outstanding and cool guy in the end!"Takeo shot up and offered his seat with his hands to an older man nearby. However, the elderly man ignored him and suddenly sat on thin air, as if there was something beneath him.
Defeated, Takeo stood beside Suna and held onto the bar, contemplating why it didn't work when he did it.
"I should probably mention that people in this world have abilities called 'Quirks'... Well, most people anyways. I've got nothing, but I'm full of lots of spirit to make up for it!"The elderly man sitting on nothing snorted in laughter at seemingly nothing, making the two glance over towards him.
"Hey, Takeo, that guy over there," Sunakawa spoke softly. "Isn't he kinda suspicious? Look at what he's doing."
Takeo followed his gaze past the old man, to where a cute, short girl was standing. Behind her, a tall, lanky man in a black hoodie was eerily close to her, and his hand had moved to rest on the back of her legs—
Before Sunakawa could even say anymore, Takeo had already moved over and grabbed the man's arm, lifting it into the air. The man gasped, his arm feeling crushed in Takeo's powerful grip.
"You're getting off on the next stop," Takeo growled at him.
The girl looked back at the commotion. Takeo gazed down at her, and felt his breath catch in his lungs.
"T-Thank you…"
Her gentle words gave Takeo an extremely warm feeling. In that moment of being distracted, the man in his grasp suddenly slipped out, his arm secreting some kind of sticky substance through his jacket sleeve.
"What are you? A Hero or somethin," the man spat as he pushed through some people to get away.
Takeo struggled to get past the others on the train, as it slowly came to a stop. The doors slid open and the man fled through them.
"Stop!"
Bursting with energy, Takeo finally broke through the crowded train doors and looked around. Almost instantly he saw the man walking, the hood of his black hoodie covering his face.
"You can't hide from me, you scum—"
As he grew close, the person turned to him slowly.
"A Hero…?"
The man's words were low and raspy. He was not, in fact, the same man that Takeo had been pursuing. Instead, he was somebody much more sinister.
Tomura Shigaraki looked at what appeared to be a hulking man descending upon him. He was unfamiliar, and was wearing the uniform of a Middle Schooler. His face had a fiery anger about it, but with a baby's roundness that made it difficult to take seriously.
"What a damn pain," Shigaraki muttered as he reached up with a hand, determined to use his power to easily end the one before him, knowing he could squash most Heroes out there. "Can these cockroaches sense when I want to kill now..?"
Unfortunately for Shigaraki, this was no Hero, nor was Takeo really that normal of a guy.
SLAM! As Takeo saw the man making a move, he delivered a powerful right punch right to his face. His power and speed were incredible, and it cleanly knocked Shigaraki's lights outs, sending him back to the ground hard.
The others around Takeo were shocked and frightened. Sunakawa rushed up to join him, and gazed down at the man.
"Takeo…"
"I got him…! He was slippery but I—"
"That's not even the same guy," Sunakawa interrupted him.
"Eh…?"
A whistle was blown, and two officers rushed over. Luckily for Takeo, the girl from the train quickly rushed over to their side.
"He was protecting me," she pleaded suddenly to them.
The two cops stopped and looked at the hulking mass that was Takeo, then to the girl, then the unconscious Shigaraki.
"Oh yeah? From what? You're like, five times his size, man," one of the cops exclaimed.
Before Takeo could explain, the girl continued, "That man was feeling me up… And he chased him away, and then…"
The cops exchanged a glance and awkwardly rubbed the back of their heads, unsure what to make of it.
Takeo was gazing at the girl intensely, his cheeks pink from the emotions swirling inside of himself as he watched her defend him. The girl continued to speak to the police, when Sunakawa leaned into Takeo's ear.
"We really need to go, you know what to do," he told him.
Takeo nodded and stepped up towards the cops. They looked up at him nervously, his face very intense. He put his arms to his side and leaned back, before suddenly bowing so hard that his head slammed into the ground.
"I'm very sorry! I went overboard!"
Sunakawa snickered, turning his head away and hiding his mouth as he did so.
"J-Jeez, well… We'll need to report this and take this guy in," one of the cops said, thumbing to the unconscious Shigaraki.
"We're actually heading to the U.A Entrance Exams," Sunakawa chimed in.
"U.A kids huh? Causing trouble won't look good for getting accepted!"
Takeo slowly stood back up with a scuff mark on his forehead. Now Sunakawa was talking to the police, with the girl chiming in as well. He could only stand there and watch them go on for another minute before finally the police took the unconscious man away, telling them they'd follow up with them later on.
He got a glimpse of the unconscious man's face. His skin was almost ash-colored, his lips were very chapped, and his hair was unkempt and a pale blue color.
Definitely a creep… Maybe Suna was wrong?"Thank you again…! I um…"
Takeo looked back to the girl, seeing her politely bow for a moment and stammer a bit. She struggled to look directly up at Takeo, something he was sort of used to because people tended to try and avoid him.
"I'm also going to the entrance exams for U.A," the girl continued, giving them both a warm smile. Her strawberry-blonde hair fluttered a bit in the wind, making Takeo gawk even more.
Cute….!"Well, we're going to be running late at this rate," Sunakawa pointed out to them.
Takeo broke from his trance and slapped Sunakawa's shoulder, urgency suddenly filling him again.
"Crap! We've gotta go then!"
"We'd already be there if you didn't have to go back home—"
"No talking, just running! I, uh…" Takeo paused and looked down at the girl. He didn't know what to say to her.
"I'm Yamato," she spoke with a smile. "I hope to see you both at U.A!"
"Yamato… I liked her instantly. But of course, I had to play it cool so I wouldn't come off weird—""I'm Gouda! Takeo Gouda!" He had too much pep in his powerful voice, garnering even more attention from those around them.
"Takeo, come on already," Sunakawa spoke as he grabbed his collar and tugged him along. "You're not making me more late than this."
"H-Hey, what about her—"
"Oh I'll be fine, I need to make a stop on the way anyways," Yamato stated.
Yamato lifted a hand and lightly waved as they left. Takeo lifted a hand to return it, his face very blissful as he watched until she faded from view.
"Suna! Why didn't we just let her come with us?!"
"You already caused enough of a fuss you know," Sunakawa commented. "We needed to get out of there."
Takeo huffed exasperatedly as they walked through the U.A gates. Not many students were approaching the school now, which meant that they were certainly nearly too late to get in.
"So this is U.A… It's huge," Takeo said as he looked all around at the school grounds leading to the main building.
"That's interesting coming from you," Sunakawa stated.
Once inside, they were dispersed into groups based on what school you came from, and which of the four main courses you wanted to join— Hero, Support, Business, or General.
When they were given their room numbers for the written exams, Takeo took a look at his applicant number— #8411.
"It looks like we're in seperate groups so we can't help each other out," Sunakawa stated.
"Crud… Well, give em hell then!" Takeo gave Sunakawa a confident look, one that came across quite silly.
Sunakawa turned away, barely able to stop himself from laughing.
"You need it more than me."
"Suna is really smart and has an amazing Quirk, so he would be fine regardless. I had studied hard for weeks in preparation, but it started to fall apart almost immediately."As Takeo went to his designated area, he gasped as he spotted a familiar strawberry-blonde girl ahead of him. He gasped and tried to hide, but as he was almost half the size of the hallway, there was nowhere to go.
Yamato noticed him quickly and waved to him. Takeo exhaled deeply from his nostrils and smacked his cheeks in preparation before he approached her, trying his best cool expression as he gave her a small mock salute with two fingers.
"Yo…"
To his surprise, Yamato's face turned pink, and she looked away as if flustered.
"S-So… Is your friend in another group? My friends got separated too," she stammered. "I was waiting to see if any of them were in my group…"
"Oh, Suna? Yeah they did… Hmm..."
A realization hit Takeo, as he looked at Yamato's slight blush. For a moment he had thought that it was because of his cool act, but now his train of thought changed completely.
That blush… Then she mentioned Suna… So it's just like before, huh…?Girls always loved Sunakawa, but often couldn't stand Takeo. Sometimes they would try and take advantage of him to get closer to Suna, til he caught on quick and told them off.
The two of them entered and sat near each other. Everyone was very serious for the test, while Takeo felt his nervousness growing.
Why'd she have to be here? How am I supposed to focus when…Takeo slowly tried to glance to the side, catching Yamato just as she had looked at him. They both looked away quickly and tried to act casual.
I got this! Otherwise Suna helping me study will be for nothing!Takeo had intense determination as he grasped his mechanical pencil— Only for it to snap from his insane grip pressure he put on it.
Crap! Already! He thought as he watched the two halves fall to the ground. As they clattered to the floor, the proctor for the test stood at the front and announced that they were about to begin. Did this really happen on the day I only brought one pencil?!
As Takeo's thoughts rushed through his head at a blinding speed, something poked his arm, and he looked over to see Yamato holding out a pink pencil to him, her face a bit flushed.
"Here… I have plenty," she told him.
"Thank you…"
Though Takeo spoke a simple response, on the inside he was elated.
I like her… A lot!!He quickly snapped to attention though as the test proctor walked between the two desks they were situated at. He eyed them suspiciously and kept going. Takeo then noticed another guy that was identical on the other side of the large room, then another, and another—
That guy is…It was Ectoplasm, a Pro Hero working at the school whose power was to make copies of himself, wearing his signature costume of a full-body black outfit underneath a trenchcoat.
...No clue, but he's pretty scary!Takeo dived right into the test, quickly finding himself stuck. He did what he often did in that situation: He skipped any question that had him stumped and would come back to it later.
This normally worked semi-well, except this time literally every single question had Takeo scratching his head.
I wish I had some sort of smarts Quirk or something…!As he twiddled with the pencil in his hands, he gazed at it and was instantly reminded of Yamato again. He slowly glanced over towards her, seeing her diligently working on the test.
Almost instantly, one of the Ectoplasms walked past, staring down at Takeo who froze up and pretended like he was looking down.
I didn't even hear how much time we had… "Truly, that was the hardest test I had ever taken. There was no way I could let Suna or Yamato down though! I was only getting started!"With a yell to pump himself up, Takeo began to go ham on the test. He scribbled in the bubbles for his answers and flipped through the pages incredibly quickly, doing his absolute best, til he finally closed the test booklet and sat back, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Finished already huh," came an Ectoplasm, who approached.
"Right on time," Takeo said, giving a thumbs up.
"Well, there's actually 35 minutes left."
Takeo blinked up at him.
"Oh, I'm not finished then," he said, opening his booklet back up.
"...Right…"
When the written portion was finished, Takeo was glad to escape the testing room.
"Um, good work in there!"
He turned to see Yamato coming up to him, holding a small bag in her hands.
"Ah thank you… Huh?" Takeo looked at the bag with interest.
Yamato smiled and offered it to him. "I picked these up on the way… Please accept them as thanks!"
Takeo was amazed to receive such a thing, gently grabbing it and peeking inside, seeing a variety of small cake-like treats.
"W-Wow! This is—"
"There's some for both of you," Yamato said with slight embarrassment, looking away. "I-I figured you both were taking the Hero practical next so you'd need the energy!"
Both of us… Right, Suna…Takeo gave a slight bow to the girl. "Thank you, I'll make sure he gets them."
With that, Yamato headed off. He watched her go, a hint of sadness in his mind.
At least she seems nice unlike most of the girls going after Suna, he thought, before heading off towards the orientation for the Hero Exam.
The room where the orientation was being held was massive and packed wall to wall. Takeo met up with Suna and they took some seats near the top, though Takeo nearly took up two of them due to his size, much to the person's disdain beside him.
"There's way too many people here, whats the big deal," Takeo whispered rather loudly to Sunakawa.
"Nobody was kidding about U.A being the most popular school in the country," Sunakawa told him.
"Hmph… I just thought they were pulling my leg!"
Down at the front, the Pro Hero known as Present Mic walked up to the podium as the doors to the room were closed, signalling that it was time to start.
"WELCOME TO THE SHOW! HEY EVERYBODY!!"
Present Mic's voice boomed around the room, and he held a hand to his ear. There was only silence that followed.
"I'VE GOT SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE TOO! Now I'm gonna give you all the low down! ARE YOU READY?!"
Still silence.
I should probably take notes so I don't forget what he says, Takeo thought as he shuffled through his bag. The person beside him grumbled as he moved and got in their personal space a bit.
"Oops, sorry," Takeo told them simply.
"Shh!" Someone else came in to shush Takeo.
"Right…"
Takeo looked back to the front, seeing that he had somehow already missed important information. The screen behind Present Mic now showed something about robots and the three types that there were going to be.
"Suna… Whats the deal with the robots?"
As Takeo leaned in and asked that, someone else suddenly shot up a few rows down from them. He was a tall and broad-shouldered guy with glasses and neat black hair.
"Excuse me— On the paper here, it lists four types of robots," the boy explained seriously. "Is this flyer incorrect, or did you miss that information? I'd hope that a place as prestigious as U.A Academy wouldn't make these kinds of mistakes."
Wow, he's a pretty serious guy—"And also, you, the big guy in the back—"
"Huh…?"
Takeo was surprised as he watched the guy turn and point right at him, his expression intense through his glasses.
"You've been making a ruckus back there for a while! Do you think U.A is a joke?"
Takeo didn't know what to say, sitting with a dumbfounded look on his face. Sunakawa saw this and snickered a bit.
"Thanks for the segway examinee #7111! That's right, there's a fourth robot obstacle— This ones massive and worth 0 points! So avoid it at all costs!"
Giant robots huh… Someone must be pulling my leg.The rest of the explanation went on, and Takeo barely got any notes. All he knew, was that there were going to be robots, and that he should probably avoid them at all costs.
Takeo was the talk of his group as he began to do some stretches outside of his designated exam field, wearing his white tee and shorts he usually would use for school gym glass.
"Isn't that guy kinda huge…?"
"Is that his Quirk?"
"Is he like 30?"
That was the general chatter about him, distracting everyone who were otherwise confident in their abilities for the test.
Soon enough though, another boy took some of the attention— He had curly green hair and was wearing a light-blue track suit, looking extremely nervous.
There's no way everyone here will make it in, so guess I gotta give it my all… Also, isnt this place as big as a city? That's kind of crazy...There were apparently several training grounds, and this one looked like a fake city with tall buildings littered throughout. It was absolutely massive and seemingly unecessary.
"Hey, you," came a familiar commanding voice. Takeo looked to see it was the bespectacled guy from earlier. "You aren't here to disrupt the exam, are you?"
"Uh… No, I'm here to pass it."
"I hope so. Don't think that you can get by while disrespecting such a prestigious school though," he said sternly to Takeo, who had no idea what to say back.
"Alrighty! Let's do this! STAARTTT!"
Everyone was shocked for a moment. Takeo stood up and looked around, equally as confused.
"What? There's no countdowns in a real battle! Your ten minutes has already started!!"
Everyone suddenly rushed into the city-sized exam course. The guy who was starting to lecture Takeo took off, and that's when he noticed the weird meta pieces sticking out from the back of his legs.
Wait, so if I don't enter at all, I won't be attacked by the robots right…? Takeo put a hand to his chin. Therefore I'd win by avoiding them?
Takeo's misunderstanding of the exam could have surely been his downfall, but luckily Present Mic shouted right at him to break him out of it.
"HEY! #8411! Get in there! Are you afraid or somethin?!"
I guess I was wrong…Takeo jogged casually into the fray, not understanding what was happening, and with very little chance of passing…
"I was super wrong!"To Be Continued (Next Chapter: My Strength)
