Connected Plants

"Now I must warn you, please do not do anything impetuous," Filius said nervously as he stared up at his long time friend. "I do not know how this all came to be and I thought with your experience..."

"It must be something big if you have brought me all the way to the Hogwarts' greenhouses to take a look," Alastor said calmly in a way that might surprise most people. "Why could you not sort this out? You are a charm's master after all."

"Because compared to you I am only a beginner," Filius said calmly as he unlocked the greenhouse door. "I know that most people might judge you straight away on that stupid facade of yours but I know better."

"Thank you Filius, it is good to know that at least one person can see though my little mask," Alastor said slyly only for a grin to suddenly appear on his face as the door to the greenhouse swung open. "Remember to stick together, we do not need any more repeats of getting lots in the jungle."

"It was not my fault that the stupid Venus Fly Trap plant took a strange dislike to me the moment it saw me for the first time," Filius said as he shot his old friend a glare. "At least I got my justice for all of the horrible things it did to me!"

Alastor looked at his friend with a dry expression. "Filius, the plant threw you up in the air and caught you several times before setting you back down on the ground with a pat on the head."

"I still have not worked out why," Filius said with a dark expression much to Alastor's amusement. "Now follow me, I want these strange miniature muggle objects out of Hogwarts before the new school year starts. I dread to think what might happen if they continue to grow at the rate they are."

"Growing?" Alastor said calmly, raising an eyebrow. "I thought that you were meant to grow things in a greenhouse."

"Not a miniature telephone pole and several muggle miniature muggle telephone boxes. To put it bluntly," Filius said as he gave Alastor a rare haggard expression. "I can't take any more of this!"

"No need to get so worked up Filius," Alasotr said with a chuckle, his amusment growing at the stressed look Filius sent him. "How about we actually go inside this greenhouse so I can have a look at these miniature muggle items?"

Giving only a small short nod in reply Filius finished opening the greenhouse door and walked in. Alastor gazed around in great interest as he searched out the reason why Filius had asked for his help. It did not take him long as a just after three steps into the second of four Hogwarts greenhouses Alastor spotted several plant pots in a circle with miniature muggle phone boxes in them, looking like a new type of plant. Right in the centre of the greenhouse looking like some sort of new type of cactus was a muggle telephone pole.

"How in Merlin's name did this happen?" Alastor asked in surprise as he looked over the scene. "Is Sprout putting some sort of new potion into the water or plant food?"

"No, she is not though with Minerva gone for the summer to visit her family she asked me for help," Filius said as he folded his arms. "I first found this when I was asked to water the plants in this greenhouse..."

"Interesting," Alastor said softly as he looked around the greenhouse, taking in the sight. "How did muggle items like these get into a Hogwarts greenhouse?"

"That is something I wanted to know," Filius answered with a frown. "If it was not so late in the summer holidays I would of said that a sixth or seventh year might of done this as a joke."

"Still could be," Alastor said as he pulled one of his wands, in his mind it was always safer to have more than one as a backup, out of its holder. "The student or students could of place a time delay spell on their little prank."

"Yes but that is far beyond anything we normally teach at Hogwarts," Filius said as he glared at the jungle like greenhouse. "That is a magical university level spell."

"You could of had a very smart student, let's not forget Tom Riddle or Hermione Granger," Alastor said only to chuckle as Filius groaned. "Not a big fan of them?"

"No, while I do not mind them as students they can be a bit over bearing at times," Filius said with a sigh. "We both know what happened to Tom Riddle and Hermione Granger...did you know that after almost every single exam no matter how big or small it was I or one of the other teachers have to calm her down and assure her that she has done well on her exam?"

Alastor said nothing, he only raised a single eyebrow at his friend.

"But we are not here to talk about the students," Filius said as he gestured to the miniature muggle phone boxes and miniature muggle telephone pole. "I asked you here to help me sort this mess out."

"Whoever did this to the greenhouse plants has a high level of understanding of transfiguration and charms," Alastor said as he carefully examined the nearest miniature muggle phone box with his magical fake eye. "What they did to the plants, the work that must of gone into this and-"

"I know, it is truly a work of art but after being stuck in this situation for as long as I have enough is enough," Filius said as his temper reached breaking points. "Do you think that you can fix it?"

"I can and I can do it with one spell," Alastor said with a grin which only grew to frustrated Filius even more. "Do you want to see?"

Filius glared at Alastor. "Of course, that is the reason I asked you to come to this greenhouse is it not?"

Chuckling softly Alastor pointed his wand at the muggle miniature phone box. "Very well than, Finite Incantatem."

As soon as he finished casting the spell Alastor stepped back and watched his friend's face. Filius let out a soft groan and placed his head in his hands as the miniature muggle phone box transformed back into a normal looking pink tulip with bright green spots on it.

"Would you mind doing that to the other telephone boxes and that telephone box for me?" Filius asked wearily. "I think I need a stiff drink."

"No problem," Alastor said only for a thoughtful expression to appear on his face. "I wonder if I enlarge the phone boxes and telephone pole I might be able to make a phone call..."

End.
