A glimmer of faith.
A few days after Joe and Oliver's rescue, and return from their hike, Shane McInerney receives a visit. The characters belong to the talented Martha Williamson.
Shane McInerney was on her computer, sitting on her couch. She was smiling as she remembered the last few days and especially that day in the chapel. That's when the front door rang. It was seven o'clock in the evening. She opened the door and smiled.
"Good evening, Shane. How are you?" A female voice asked.
"Good evening. Did you know I live here?" Shane laughed.
"I work at the police. It's easy for me to get that kind of information." Dale laughed.
Shane laughed back and then let Dale in.
Sitting around a table, Shane brought two cups of tea and cookies.
"Joe is out of the hospital, day before yesterday. He's doing much better." Shane added.
"I'm glad he's feeling much better." Dale said, before taking a sip from her cup.
"Norman and Rita and I wanted to have a surprise party to celebrate Joe's recovery. I hope you can be there this Saturday." Shane asked.
"I would love to, but I'll be on duty all day.. Shane, I came to see how you've been doing since last time. » Dale asks.
Shane then put her cup on the table.
"I'm much better... I mean, when Joe and Oliver got lost in the mountains, I was so scared that I thought... I never imagined that inside I would find a lot of resources in myself. »
"Shane, you have a great inner strength inside you, maybe greater than you even realize. It is that strength, and faith, that has helped you through this difficult time. It's a gift, Shane. You are doing so much good to those around you, to the people you meet. I felt it the moment I saw you in church." Dale says.
That's when tears ran down Shane's face without stopping.
"Excuse me... I think your visit came at just the right time. You're right. Now I feel an inner peace with myself. Thank you so much Dale, from the bottom of my heart," Shane said as she wiped away her tears.
"It's my pleasure. Your chocolate cookies are delicious," Dale remarked.
"Thank you so much. Dale, what made you want to be a police officer?" Shane asks.
"I had two older brothers and I always had a whistle on me."Dale laughed." In fact, I always loved justice, protecting and serving. What brings you to the Denver Post Office ? " Dale asked with a smile.
"It was a miracle that brought me to Denver." Shane replied with a big smile.
"Oliver was right. You really are special," Dale remarked.
"Did Oliver tell you about me?" Shane asked, surprised.
"No, not exactly. To tell you the truth, I'm the one who pushed him into to do it, one day, after the choir. At the hospital, Oliver told me you cancelled a date, just so he could spend time with his father. That's very generous of you and selfless, especially since Oliver hadn't been able to spend time with his father for a long time. You know, I sincerely think Oliver really needs someone like you." Dale says.
"What do you mean?" Shane asked.
" I've known Oliver for a long time.I can see in his eyes how he talks about you. You give him the balance, the sweetness that he needs..."
"And I'm shaking up his habits a little." Shane added with a laugh.
"I think that's what he needs too." Dale laughed." Oh, I have to go. Thanks so much for the tea, Shane."Dale said as she got up.
Shane walked her to the door.
"It was my pleasure. Thanks for your visit, Dale."
Dale was about to leave the house when Shane called her.
"Wait a minute... Dale!"
"Yes?" Dale asked.
"You're a great person and I'm glad to have you as a friend." Shane declared.
"I'm happy to be your friend too. You know Shane, sometimes on our journey, we come across good people and you are one of them. Trust in destiny. See you soon Shane". Dale said with a big smile.
"Yes, and let your light shine." Shane whispered with a smile.
The end.
