"Klaus you breathing down my neck every two seconds isn't going to help get this graphic done any faster." Bonnie quipped, peaking over her shoulder at her boss.

Klaus folded his arms across his chest in indignation, "Yes well I shouldn't even have to be down here right now. The art department isn't exactly my field but when one of our top selling writers complains that only half of her new graphic novel is complete, well let's just say that's a cause of concern." Klaus glared over at his brother Kol.

"Hey don't give me that look. She loved what we sent her so far, Bonnie is just making sure the rest of it is just as good." Kol replied.

Bonnie continued to sketch at her large station, ignoring the two brothers squabbling in front of her.

"Well maybe Ms. Bennett could benefit from some alone time so she could finish her work undisturbed?" Klaus raised his eyebrow.

"I'm the art director for this company. It's my job to supervise the on-going art projects." Kol answered lowly.

"Yes! But it's not your job to salivate over the employees!" Klaus whispered angrily at Kol before walking out of the office, "Bonnie, always a pleasure." He sent her a tight smile before leaving.

Bonnie looked over at Kol, who was staring after his brother, a pink tint staining his cheeks. Was he embarrassed? Bonnie felt her smile grow wide at the thought and immediately berated herself. You have a boyfriend Bonnie. A loving thoughtful non-arrogant boyfriend. She mentally chastised herself further.

Kol's words lifted her from her thoughts; "I should probably leave you to it then." He smiled awkwardly before walking out of her office.

Bonnie sighed, half of her wanted to tell him to come back. But why? Come back for what?

Reaching over for her phone, she hit speed-dial number one before a familiar voice filled her speaker.

"Hello? Caroline, best friend emergency service. How can I help you?" Her friend spoke in a bright teasing tone.

"How did you know I needed help?" Bonnie inquired as she leaned back in her chair.

"I was on the phone to Klaus when he got an email to which his response was 'Bloody Kol' before telling me he'd call back later." Caroline giggled.

Bonnie began to chuckle too, immensely enjoying Caroline's British accent.

"So I had a feeling you might be involved in the crossfire. It seems our Kol has a thing for a certain Ms. Bennett." Caroline continued.

Bonnie rolled her eyes, "He can have a million things for all I care, nothing is going to happen between us. We just wouldn't work."

"And you have a boyfriend." Caroline laughed.

"Yes thank you Caroline I am aware of that fact." Bonnie spun around in her chair slowly, "So why were you on the phone to Klaus?"

"Just baby stuff." Bonnie could practically hear Caroline shrug indifferently through the phone.

"But the baby isn't here. What could you have to talk about?"

"I don't know, he just likes to check in I guess." Caroline replied hesitantly, wondering where her friend was going with this.

"Uh huh. And he brought you home the other night after the party."

"So?"

"And was cooking for you." Bonnie added.

"Hey! You were too buzzed to even remember that."

"Caroline."

"Okay clearly you have something on your mind so spill Bennett. I have a company to run and your gun-like subtleties have reached their limit."

"It just seems like he's a better husband to you now than when you were actually together. That's all I'm saying." Bonnie replied truthfully.

Caroline sighed, "Bonnie I'm not getting into this again."

"It just seems like you've forgiven and forgotten everything that happened."

"That's not true at all. But we're having a child together. I have to table most of my issues about Klaus if this co-parenting thing is going to work. Besides he wasn't the worst husband. The first five years were the best of my life." Caroline heard her voice crack on the last few words. She knew avoiding her issues with him was probably not the healthiest thing to do but what choice did she have?

"I know Care but the last two?" Bonnie asked.

"Pretty brutal." Caroline laughed bitterly.

A cough from the doorway broke Bonnie's stare on the speakerphone. Looking up she saw Klaus Mikaelson standing in her doorway, a stoic expression on his face.

Bonnie quickly ended the call before Caroline had another chance to speak. Klaus's face was unreadable as he began to speak, giving Bonnie no indication if he had heard any of her conversation with Caroline; "We have a meeting with Nora in an hour so if you could bring whatever progress you've made that would be great." He spoke in his usual Klaus manner but walking away.

"Oh crap." Bonnie whispered before laying her head on her desk.

"So are we going to go ahead with the new designs?" Katherine asked her business partner as they walked into the awaiting elevator later that day.

"I think I want to go over it once more with the design team before they start production. Some of the pieces aren't sitting right with me." Caroline replied as she rooted around in her bag.

"Okay well we can do that tomorrow so it's decided before the weekend? I just need a clear head work-wise before all the stress."

Caroline finally found her phone deep in her bag, "What stress?"

Katherine turned to frown at her, "Mikael and Esther fly into JFK tomorrow."

"They what?!" Caroline nearly dropped her phone in shock.

Katherine tilted her head for a moment, "Now that I think about it, I did wonder why you didn't bring it up all day. Did you not know they were coming?"

She shook her head. "Why didn't you bring it up?" Caroline squeaked.

"You hear that displeased tone in your voice? That's why." She smiled teasingly at her.

Caroline glared, "I cannot believe no one told me." Looking down at her phone screen she saw two missed calls from Klaus. Well at least he tried.

"Hey I only found out this morning. You know how they love the element of surprise. And now I have to plan a three course dinner for Saturday evening to welcome them back." Katherine groaned.

"At least they like you. Esther never thought I was good enough for her favorite son. And Mikael can barely tolerate Klaus, never mind me, his former wife."

"You haven't seen them in nearly a year right?" Katherine asked.

"Yeah it's probably been that long." She vaguely remembered Esther ignoring her at a restaurant just after her and Klaus separated. And they say the English have manners.

"I'm just relieved I no longer have to go to those Mikaelson dinners. They nearly always end in a fight, death threats or dramatic revelations." Caroline rolled her eyes as the elevator hit the garage level.

"Well this is Manhattan after all." Katherine winked, "And something makes me think you'll still be going to that dinner."

"And why is that?" Caroline scoffed as they headed towards their cars.

Katherine pointed at Caroline's still rather flat abdomen, "Because my niece or nephew has to meet the grandparents sooner or later."

"Caroline relax please." Klaus sighed as the blonde began to pace his office the next morning.

"Telling me to relax is not going to help me relax okay, asshole?"

"I don't know if asshole is really called for." Klaus muttered under his breath, causing Caroline to briefly pause mid-pace.

"What was that?" Her eyes narrowed at him.

"Nothing, please continue your rant." He smirked at her.

"I seriously don't get how you're so calm about all this." She threw up her arms in exasperation.

"Caroline you're already pregnant. There's not much we can do." Klaus shrugged from behind his desk.

"Maybe you should tell Esther and Mikael alone?" She suggested, attempting a smile in hopes he would accept the offer.

"Nice try but I'm not going into the wolves den alone."

Caroline huffed loudly before pacing again.

"Please sit down, you're yellow dress moving so fast is giving me a migraine." His hand moved to rub his temple.

"Such a drama queen." She mumbled before sitting down across from him.

Klaus glared in response to her comment, "So shall we just say you seduced me and the baby is the result of said seduction?"

"Klaus!" Caroline threw a pen at her former husband who was now chuckling at her horrified expression.

"It's not funny, your mother already hates me." Caroline sighed.

"She doesn't hate you." Klaus said, sounding entirely unconvinced of his statement.

"Of course you would say that, Mommy's Boy." She replied with a smirk.

"That's absurd I'm not a Mommy's Boy." Klaus scoffed at her remark.

"Klaus you basically let her plan our entire wedding. She picked the flowers, the bridesmaid's dresses, the menu-"

Klaus cut Caroline off with a wave of her hand, "She knows the best florists and caterers in New York, of course wanted to help out."

"Help out? She completely took over." Caroline laughed at his denial.

"Well can you blame her? How often would she get the chance to plan her son's wedding?" Klaus attempted to defend her.

"She has four sons Klaus." Caroline deadpanned, "So like literally at least four times."

Klaus glared at her sarcasm before his phone began to buzz loudly, "It's my mother."

"Oh goodie!" Caroline replied, her voice still laced with sarcasm.

Klaus tilted his head in thought, "Is it the baby that is giving you this added dose of sardonic wit?"

"Well it is your child." She replied with a grin before sashaying out of his office.

Klaus couldn't help but smile uncontrollably as he watched her walk out. Picking up his phone he pressed answer just before the phone stopped ringing, "Mother?"

"Niklaus!" Esther replied merrily on the other end.

Klaus half listened to his mother inform him of her European adventures as his thoughts stayed on a certain blonde.

Caroline pushed open the door to her apartment; grateful it was finally Friday evening. She could finally relax on the couch with some take-out after a long week of work.

"Bonnie! I brought Chinese! I was massively craving some dumplings and the baby wanted spring rolls so-Oh hey Luca!" Caroline went bright pink as she spotted Bonnie's boyfriend sitting on the couch.

"Hey Caroline." He chuckled, standing to help her out with the bags of food.

"Hot date?" She asked.

"Yeah something like that." He laughed again before frowning, "Oh who's the baby?"

"Hmm?" Caroline winced. Both her and Klaus didn't want the public knowing about the baby until it was absolutely necessary. The paparazzi had finally stopped stalking Caroline after the divorce but once they got wind of the pregnancy news it would be bedlam.

"You said the baby wanted spring rolls?" He asked again.

"Oh yes that baby!" She faked a loud laugh, "It's a funny story which I will tell you, but first let me get Bonnie. She will want to hear it too!" She replied before zipping out of the kitchen.

Caroline knocked on her friend's bedroom door before slipping inside, "Okay so I may have slipped up about the baby to Luca, but I'm sure we can swear him to secrecy right?" Caroline started talking before spotting Bonnie sitting at her vanity, small tears forming in her eyes as she continued to stare at her reflection.

"Oh my god B what happened?" Caroline asked in concern.

Seeing her friend close the door and come closer Bonnie felt her lip tremble, "I don't know what to do, Care."

"What are you talking about?" Caroline asked.

Bonnie's eyes fell to her lap as her voice came out in a whisper, "Kol kissed me."

"He did WHAT?!' Caroline exclaimed, letting her hormones influence her decibel level, "I'm going to kill him. Flirting is one thing but he knows you're in a relationship. Ugh the cheek of the Mikaelson men-"

Bonnie cut her friend off, "I kissed him back."

Caroline grew silent before replying, "Oh I see. Maybe you should explain to me what exactly happened?"

Bonnie inhaled deeply, trying to steady her voice, "I went to his office after work to make sure everything was okay. Klaus made things sort of awkward and I just wanted everything to normal again before work on Monday."

"Sounds like Klaus." Caroline scoffed before noticing Bonnie's stare, "Sorry you're right, not the time." She awkwardly smiled at her to continue.

"So we were talking and then he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear and my eyes closed-"

"Bonnie!" Caroline said, half teasing her friend.

"Involuntarily- they closed involuntarily." She amended, "And next thing I knew we were making out." Bonnie covered her face with her hands.

Caroline pursed her lips thoughtfully for a moment, "On his desk or?"

Bonnie removed her hands, "I think you missed the important part of the story."

"I'm sorry but it's been a while since I got some, so sue me for being curious." Caroline huffed, before returning to the matter at hand, "So then what happened?"

"I ran. Literally." Bonnie admitted, her features full of guilt and self-loathing.

"What are you going to tell Luca?"

"I wouldn't even know what to say. I've been sitting in here for ten minutes trying to think of what to do. I've never cheated on someone before." Bonnie's eyes filled with tears again, "But I remember when Jeremy cheated on me in high school. It was the worse feeling in the world, to be betrayed by someone you love. How could I do that to Luca?"

"Oh Bonnie." Caroline felt her eyes prickle with tears as she drew her friend in to a hug.

"I'm sure if you tell him it was a mistake he will forgive you."

"What if it wasn't a mistake?" Bonnie mumbled into her friend's hair.

Caroline drew back to look at Bonnie, the blonde's face etched with surprise.

"You'd end your two year relationship with Luca for Kol, New York's most notorious lothario?"

"Forget I said anything." Bonnie said, standing up and moving towards the door.

"Bonnie, wait! I didn't mean it like that, it's just this all happened so fast."

"I have to go, it's not fair to keep Luca waiting any longer." Bonnie pulled on her jacket before opening her door.

"Bonnie?" Caroline pouted.

"Yeah?" She turned to look at her friend's puppy dog expression.

"I love you."

Bonnie let out a small giggle, "I love you too, you crazy pregnant woman."

Caroline pulled the covers of her bed back before climbing onto the soft mattress. Bonnie still wasn't back from her date with Luca, which Caroline couldn't decide whether it was a good or bad sign. After too many Law & Order SVU episodes she finally decided it was bedtime.

Her mind had finally forgotten about the sure-to-be awful dinner tomorrow when her phone lit up with two separate texts. One from Katherine asking her was she still allowed eat sushi when pregnant and another from Kol, asking how his favorite niece or nephew was doing.

"Someone is fishing for Bonnie information." She muttered as she replied to both Mikaelsons.

Just as she was about to put her phone down it lit up again, this time with an incoming call.

"Klaus I told you before, midnight calls are creepy not cute." She sighed.

"I was thinking, maybe if we had a name my parents would be more receptive to our news." He announced, not even bothering with a hello. She could hear him shuffling papers and moving around.

"Are you still at work?" She asked, "And we don't even know the sex but sure let's give the baby a name."

She could hear his scowl through the phone, "And I thought you were Mister Cool about telling your parents."

"Yes well a long talk with my mother today has me second guessing myself." He sighed, sitting down in his own chair.

"Why, what did she say?" Caroline frowned as she settled deeper into the covers.

"It's not important."

"Lovely words about me I assume?" Caroline responded bitterly. She hated that the Mikaelson matriarch still got to her.

"Let's not talk about it. What are you doing?" He asked, his voice sounding tired.

"Going to sleep." She replied, yawning loudly at the thought.

"I'II let you rest then. See you tomorrow?" He asked, his voice slightly doubting whether or not she would actually come.

"See you tomorrow." She answered.

After saying their goodnights Caroline rolled over in her bed. She was dreading the dinner at Katherine and Elijah's. She didn't really care what Esther and Mikael thought of her anymore. Her and Klaus were divorced; of course she was enemy number one now. But her child? Her baby was half Mikaelson whether she liked it or not. She just prayed Klaus's parents would feel the same way.
