first time

one shot

Luke had made a habit out of staying in Julie's room at night. Not that she minded, but sometimes things could get really steamy and then she would try to sleep but couldn't stop thinking about him, pressed up against her back, arms around her center.

He was driving her nuts.

It started off so innocent. Luke stopped in one night to make sure Julie was okay, it was the anniversary of her mother's passing, and he was worried about her.

He poofed in while she was still a little weepy, eyes red and face puffy.

"Hey Jules, how you doin?"

Julie looked up at him with teary eyes and broke a small smile.

"Hey Luke, I'm okay, just sad."

Luke mimicked the smile she had given him, a soft but sympathetic one. He walked over to her bed and took a seat on the edge.

Neither said anything in the quiet and dark room. Julie was fidgeting with the blanket in between her fingers. Luke watched her with worry in his eyes.

Hesitantly, Luke placed a soft hand in the middle of Julie's back and rubbed it slowly.

"You need anything? Like, to talk or something?" He asked.

Julie looked up at him and he could tell she had a favor to ask him, and whatever it was, he would do it. He hated seeing her like this.

"Actually yeah, there is one thing you could do."

"Anything Julie."

Julie turned to him and placed her hand on top of his then looked up at his face. He was worried.

"Can you stay with me tonight?"

Luke's worry broke into a small smile and he squeezed her hand with his.

"Of course Julie, always."

Julie smiled at him and fell into his shoulder where he wrapped her in a hug, resting his head on hers.

They sat there for a while, holding each other while her tears slowed and soaked into his orange flannel.

"Hey Jules, you should probably get some sleep." Luke whispered.

"Do you not sleep?" She asked.

"No, there's really no point when you're dead, you don't need to recharge."

Julie laughed a little and slowly pulled out of Luke's embrace, getting up to pull down the covers and get underneath them at the top of the bed.

Luke threw off his flannel exposing a white t-shirt. He crawled up to the top of the bed to meet Julie and he tossed open the covers to join her underneath them.

She smiled and quickly cuddled to his side when he laid down. He put his arm around her and pulled her into his chest.

The embrace felt warm and innocent. They stayed like that all night until morning.

Now, Luke had decided that it was his bed too.

"Julie it's getting late don't you think we should go to bed?"

The band had been practicing in the garage all evening and it was about 11pm. Luke was getting restless because he was not getting his guitar solo down correctly.

"We?" Alex questioned.

Panic arose in Julie's eyes and Luke saw and backtracked.

"Yeah like, all of us." He said.

"Dude, we don't sleep." Reggie stated.

More panic in Julie's eyes and Luke knew he had to backtrack some more.

"Yeah but Julie does and she has school tomorrow, besides we could all use a little relaxation time." He said.

The boys reluctantly agreed and Julie hugged them all goodnight, knowing that, before she even got up the stairs, Luke would be under the covers in her bedroom.

Julie walked out of the garage and Luke put his guitar away.

"I'm gonna go for a walk downtown, probably won't be back for a while, Willie had some clubs he suggested to go see." Luke said, blatantly lying to his band.

"Luke, you realize you're gone, all the time." Alex pointed out.

"Yeah man, why are you gone every night?" Reggie added.

Luke didn't know how to keep this a secret but he had to, even if the boys started to be suspicious of him.

"I just want to do some living, come on guys we missed out on 25 years of it. I'm just catching up, I'll see you guys later." Luke quickly gathered himself and poofed out.

Alex and Reggie looked at each other, annoyed at their non-biological brother being weird and suspicious.

Back up in Julie's room, Luke threw off his jacket and beanie in the corner by the laundry basket and jumped into the bed next to her.

"Hey cutie what took you so long?" Julie whispered as she placed a soft hand on his chest. Luke grinned and pulled her into him, lightly putting his lips on hers as they smiled through each kiss.

"I've missed you Jules, you didn't tell me you were gonna spend the weekend at Flynn's and I've missed your touch so much." Luke whined.

Julie lowered her eyes and daringly said, "Come get some baby."

Luke bit his lip and slowly wrapped a hand around her waist, tightening his grip. He ran his mouth down her arm and went back up to her mouth, hovering over it.

"You want this?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.

Julie slowly shook her head yes, and Luke took that as his rite of passage.

Slowly he moved his head to her jaw, kissing lightly, then moving further down her neck.

Julie shivered. She needed him to stop teasing her but she knew the release would be so sweet.

Luke hovered over the most sensitive part of her neck, stuck out his tongue and licked it gently. Julie shivered and sighed.

Finally, without skipping a beat, Luke sank into her neck. A slow, determined kiss. Just when Julie thought this was enough, Luke started to lightly suck her neck.

Each little kiss got more intense and felt better each time. Julie started to sigh louder and bite her lip. Her skin burned at each touch of his wet lips and tongue.

Finally, after not being able to take it anymore, Julie snagged the collar of his shirt in her fist and yanked him up to her mouth and they crashed against each other. Tongues tangling and lips dancing over each other.

The longer they kissed the more steamy it got. The more steamy it got, the more worried Julie got.

Luke's hands slid over her sides, which had become exposed from the two rolling into each kiss and it riding up.

He went back to her neck and moved even further down to her collar bone. Kissing and lightly licking and biting at her skin.

He was panting and his eyes had a fire in them. Julie was getting scared now. She was convinced he wanted something. Something she definitely was not ready to give.

As Luke rolled over on top of her Julie went into full panic mode. She put her hands on his chest to stop him and he backed up a little to look at her face. He was confused.

"What's wrong?" Luke asked.

"Uh, it's uh, nothing it's nothing, I just want to get some sleep." Julie stammered.

"Wait, no, Jules don't lie to me, just talk to me what is it?" Luke prodded. He was worried and he didn't want anything he did to be something she regretted being a part of. Luke rolled off of her and sat up next to her.

Julie looked at his worried face. Just seconds ago he was sucking on her neck and making her skin ignite and now he was sitting next to her worried that he had done something wrong.

"It's nothing, I just… I just am not ready." She said quietly.

"...ready?" Luke asked.

Luke searched Julie's eyes looking for what she meant, and when he saw the fear, he realized.

"Oh geez, Julie I would never.. I-I mean not never per say but, I mean what I'm saying is—" Luke stopped himself and collected his thoughts.

"Julie, I would never ever do anything that you didn't want me to, or weren't ready for. Sometimes things can get a little hot and heavy and, if you want me to slow down, just let me know." He said.

"Could we? Slow down I mean?" She asked nervously.

"Of course we can Jules," Luke said, putting a hand on her cheek. "Julie I'm not here to have sex with you. That is completely your call if you even ever want to. And if you don't, I'm one hundred percent fine with that. I like you for you, not for… that."

Julie smiled and leaned in to kiss him lightly. "Thank you Luke."

"Of course. Do you wanna get some sleep?" He asked.

"Actually, can we talk about it?"

"Talk about… what just happened or talk about sex?"

"Yeah uh, can we talk about sex?"

Luke was honestly kind of shocked. He never really expected them to end up doing anything like that, let alone ever discuss it.

"Uh, yeah, if you wanna talk about it of course we can. What exactly do you wanna talk about?"

"I just wanted to ask you some things." Julie started.

Luke looked at her, ready to listen.

"So, just be honest with me, are you a virgin?" She asked.

Luke smiled a little and said simply, "No, I'm not."

"Okay well, tell me about it."

Luke raised his eyebrows and laid back on the bed with a sigh. "Well," he started, "I was 16, and there was this girl at my school, she was a year older than me, and she had been hitting on me pretty hard my whole sophomore year. I didn't really know what to think of it except the fact that she was pretty and I honestly started to like her. So I asked her to the dance and she went with me. She told me to sneak in her window after the thing was over so I did and it all just kind of happened."

"Was it… good?"

"Well, it was okay. First time is always kinda weird."

"Was that the only time you did it?"

"No we did it a few times after that, but the last time is burned in my brain."

"What happened?"

"We went out at night after rehearsal and she had convinced me to take her dad's truck. We drove out by the pond near her house and laid blankets in the back and everything. We ended up having sex again and I remember she started crying and I freaked out because I thought I had hurt her or something."

"Did you?"

"No uh, turns out she was lesbian."

Julie stifled a laugh and cleared her throat. "Really?" She said, putting a hand to her chin trying to seemed intrigued and not thrilled.

"Yeah," Luke laughed. She sat up and looked at me and said, I think I like girls. So I wrapped her up in a blanket and put my clothes back on and we talked about how she kinda found out and we broke up, obviously. And after that we pretty much never talked. We would walk around at school together, just in case anyone tried to bully her or anything, I wanted to be there to protect her."

"Did you love her?" Julie asked quietly.

"I had love for her, but no I wasn't in love. I just liked her a lot. It was definitely better after we broke up though."

"That's sweet of you, that you walked with her at school, to keep her safe."

"Yeah I mean, I did the same thing for Alex for a while until he told me he would be okay. Times were different back then and not a lot of people were accepting. I just wanted to make sure she was safe and knew that it was okay that she was finally stepping into who she was."

There was a pause and Julie and Luke sat in silence for a short moment just looking at each other.

"You have anything else you wanna ask?" Luke piped up.

"No I just kinda wanted to know your history, I mean clearly you've gathered that I'm a virgin and you're already pretty much my first, everything, really."

"Yeah I know I am, and I would never do anything to make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe."

Julie smiled and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. "Thank you Luke, that means a lot."

Luke smiled and pulled Julie into a hug. "You should get some sleep okay?"

She silently agreed and pulled herself further under the covers and closer to his chest. Though, after a few minutes she piped up again.

"Just so you know, I'm not saying I don't want you like that. Because I definitely do, and sometimes it's hard not to think about."

"Really?" Luke said, slightly shocked.

"Yeah, really. I want to, just not yet."

Luke smiled and rubbed Julie's arm. "Okay baby, whenever you're ready you just let me know."

It was Julie's first prom, and she was performing at it. Excited was a freakin understatement. She was ecstatic.

It was no Orpheum, but she finally got to redeem herself for the little dance incident, and the band had a great set for the night.

The boys were in the garage getting ready, so she ran upstairs to do the same.

She threw up her hair and did her makeup and then put on a pair of sequined black pants, along with her mom's sunset curve shirt. She knew it would make the boys so happy to see it on her.

Over top of the shirt she added a cropped bomber jacket that matched the pants. She threw her hair up in a high pony with a bright pink scrunchie and did some make up, added little jewels to make it pop.

When she was done putting on some jewelry and her sneakers, she ran downstairs to see if the boys were ready.

When she walked in she was shocked. The boys weren't wearing their traditional garb, they had really dressed up this time.

Alex was in a baby pink hoodie with a sparkling hot pink drum set on the front and some classic ripped jeans, complete with a bedazzled black ball cap, backwards of course.

Reggie had swapped his classic black leather jacket for a red one. He wore it over top a black and white pin striped t-shirt with black jeans.

Luke was sitting on the couch looking casual except for the fact that he was wearing a brand new white cutoff with purple sparkling letters that read, "Julie and The Phantoms." He wore a scarf tied around his right arm that was purple and white to match, and a purple beanie. His jeans were black and his sneakers were bright white Nike Air Force ones, with a sparkling purple swoosh.

"Holy crap, you guys look great!" Julie exclaimed.

The boys all looked up and smiled wide at the compliment.

"Not too bad yourself Jules, we're all so sparkly today." Reggie commented.

"Whoaaa loving the shirt!" Luke said.

"That's so sick that you bedazzled it," Alex said.

The group smiled and laughed and joined up into their band circle so they could motivate each other and make tonight special.

They all knew it was Julie's first prom and that they totally owed her after last time, so they decided to really show up and show out with the effort factor.

"Okay well, I guess I'll see you guys there?" Julie said.

"Sounds good," Alex replied.

When Julie got to the dance to set up she knew she needed to find Flynn because, duh, it's prom, and she wanted to see her best friend.

When she finally found her, Flynn wasn't wearing the typical DJ outfit. No, she was rocking a stunning updo, and a floor length purple glittering prom dress.

"OMG," Julie yelled.

"Heyyy," Flynn said, pretending to be casual.

"You look INSANE!" Julie exclaimed.

"Insane good?"

"Insane freaking amazing."

Flynn laughed and hugged Julie. The two figured they better get set up for the show, so they went backstage to get started.

"Hey so, after that convo with Luke the other night, are you guys like, still sleeping in the same bed or is it dunzo?"

Julie laughed and gave Flynn a look. "No Flynn it's not over, Luke and I still keep each other company until I fall asleep… and then wake up next to him every day."

"Mmhmm I bet he keeps you company. All kinds of company."

"Omg Flynn shut up don't even."

"Are you even ready for that yet or…?"

"Honestly, I don't know, I feel like I definitely could be soon."

Flynn smiled sweetly but then said, "Damn Julie, really gonna have sex with a ghost, that's on a next level."

Julie giggled and pushed Flynn playfully. They continued to set up and get ready for the show while the dance got started.

Luke, Reggie, and Alex walked into the gym doors right as the music started to play, it was like a movie.

"Dude, it's been years since prom, this is awesome," Reggie said.

"Yeah this is so cool, I almost wish we weren't playing tonight so I could've brought Willie," Alex said.

"Yeah well, I don't get to dance with Julie either, she'd definitely look weird slow dancing with nothing in front of her," Luke pouted.

"Since when do you wanna do romantic stuff with Julie?" Alex asked.

Luke felt the boys' eyes staring into his very soul, he started to panic and his eyes got wide.

"Uhhh, I don't I don't I just… okay so I like her. A lot."

"Haha we knew it dude!" Reggie laughed

Luke rolled his eyes and laughed a little. Alex patted a hand on Luke's back. "Don't worry buddy, she likes you too, maybe you can dance when you get home, Reg and I will give you some space, sound good?"

Luke thought for a second. "Honestly, that sounds great."

Julie walked onto the stage and looked out into the crowd. When she saw the boys she motioned for them to come up, it was time to start.

They saw and teleported over to her. The first song was Edge of Great. They had to make their transitions between songs fast though, because it would be a little suspicious and awkward if after every song in the set, they disappeared and came back right after.

Julie started on the piano and the crowd of teens shifted their focus to the stage and quieted. When the boys warped in they went crazy.

After Great was Finally Free, since the school hadn't really seen that one yet. The transition was a bit off, because it was supposed to start with Julie alone but they had decided to all just play it together to avoid the disappearing problem.

And then, for the last song, they did Perfect Harmony. Luke and Julie had never played it for anyone, not even the boys. They had them learn the parts to the tune, but had never actually sang it to anyone but each other.

After Julie told Luke about her strange vision in dance class, they decided to sit down and write out the song together. And now they were going to play it.

But Julie didn't know that. She thought the last song was Bright, but Luke had other plans.

Since Julie couldn't sit at the piano and start the song with the transitions, he had the perfect window to do it. He told the boys beforehand, so they were ready.

Finally Free ended, and Luke grabbed up his acoustic and started Perfect Harmony.

Julie's eyes were glazed in confusion. She had no idea what he was doing.

And then he started singing.

Step into my world

Bittersweet love story bout a girl

Shook me to the core

Voice like an angel I've never heard before

Julie almost didn't start singing because she was so surprised. But by the time Luke sang 'voice like an angel' she remembered where she was and composed herself.

Julie began to sing her part, and as she did, the gym floor started to move. Everyone was searching for their partner to dance with to this beautiful song.

By the end, Luke and Julie had ended up nose to nose on stage. The fire in his eyes was almost soft. Calm.

They sang the last note and for a split second, it was only Julie and Luke left in the whole room. It was like everyone else had disappeared.

Heavy breathing ensued and then the crowd erupted. To Julie and Luke it was just white noise. He wanted her. Right now.

And she wanted him too.

Back at home Julie was sitting on the front porch steps. Reggie and Alex decided to stay at the prom so Alex could invite Willie and Reg could watch Julie's dad take pictures and film.

But Luke followed Julie home.

Julie was sitting alone and Luke walked up to her as if he had been in the garage.

"Hey Jules."

"Hey Luke."

"What are you doing here? Don't you wanna be partying at your first prom?"

"Honestly, yeah I do."

"Then what's the deal?"

"I just, I don't know I mean, we had an amazing performance and a beautiful duet to end it but, when the song was over, I knew that was it. I wouldn't have anyone to dance with at prom, no one that I would want to dance with anyway."

"Oh."

"Yeah…"

Luke sat and thought for a minute, then he remembered what Alex had said about dancing with Julie after prom.

"Hey, how about we dance right here, right now."

"With no music?"

"We can sing, Perfect Harmony."

Julie looked at him, hesitant.

"Come onnn, it'll be fun and romantic."

Julie smiled and let Luke grab her hand to pull her up off the step. He smiled at her and slid a hand across her waist onto her back and used his other and to bring hers up.

Finally in position Luke looked her in the eyes and started to sing Perfect Harmony again. Julie giggled and blushed hard. She had never been so honestly smitten with someone.

He pulled out all the stops, spinning her, dipping her, taking her all across the porch with their dance.

When it was over, Julie looked up into Luke's eyes, and then to his lips. They paused with the feeling of want hanging in the air.

Then slowly, they leaned into each other. A slow and soft kiss, pulling away like they wished they never had to.

Luke searched Julie's eyes and saw something different. Like she was waiting for him to do something. Like she wanted something.

In a blink, Julie grabbed the back of Luke's head and pulled him down into her, crashing his mouth into hers.

Oh, that something.

Luke happily accepted the kiss and wrapped his arms around her while she wrapped his hair in her hands. Tongues were reintroduced and lips crashing loudly against each other.

Luke could have sworn that he felt her tugging on his shirt as if she wanted it to come off but he didn't know if he had imagined it.

Julie's lips were intoxicating him and he was getting completely lost. His mind was blank and all he could think about was her. Her mouth on his and her hands in his hair.

In 2 beats he pushed her up against the front door and started kissing her neck, just like the other night. But this time Julie didn't mind. She was ready. And she was gonna let him know.

She ran her hands over his sides and up his arms, then she reached behind her and opened the door. This time it was her turn to push him against the wall just inside.

Julie was driving Luke insane. Her hands were going all over his chest and his kisses on his neck were making his skin burn for more.

Then reality kicked in.

Luke slowed Julie down and grabbed her arms lightly. He looked at her with concerned eyes. He didn't even have to ask, she knew what he was thinking.

"Luke, I want this."

"Are you sure?"

"Definitely."

Luke smiled softly and kicked off the wall, slowly walking over to where Julie stood, just a few feet in front of him.

He took his hands to her shoulders and slid off her jacket. When it hit the floor, he raised an eyebrow with an 'are you sure' look on his face again, grabbing her hands.

Julie smiled and repeated what she had said the other night.

"Come get some baby."

Luke smiled. That was all he needed. He grabbed her just below her butt and lifted her onto him. Julie wrapped her legs around his waist and grabbed his beanie off, throwing it to the ground next to her jacket.

Julie kissed him as he carried her up the stairs to her bedroom.

Well honestly, their bedroom.

Luke smiled as he thought to himself, dances really must be his thing.
