Hilary is sick and tired of waiting for Tyson to make the first move, so she turns to Kai for some help to get the ball rolling.

.

Finally, some peace and quiet, Kai thought. It wasn't that he resented his teammates – he liked their company and valued their friendship, but sometimes it was hard to concentrate especially with Daichi in the mix. He could tolerate Tyson and Hilary, but Daichi was something else entirely. If Daichi could put all that energy into his beyblading, the kid might even stand a chance against himself.

"Heh. Like I'll allow that to happen," Kai said aloud, firing his blade. Hilary and Kenny had organized a new training course. A few cans, some ramps, and a course of hoops to get their blades through. There was a charity match upcoming to support disadvantaged beybladers, and Tyson had signed them all up for it. They were supposed to work in pairs. Tyson had partnered with Max, and Kai had gone with Rei. Daichi had teamed up with Rick of all people.

"Kai!"

Drats. So much for peace and quiet. "Hi, Hilary," Kai said. He recalled his blade then turned around. "What's on your mind? Did you and Tyson get into another fight?" Why hadn't anyone shoved them in a room together yet? It was obvious to everyone they were madly in love with each other, but both too bull-headed to do anything about it.

She nodded. "That obvious, huh? And it was over something so stupid. I told him he should take some time off beyblading for a while. He's been working so hard… And it's just a charity match. It's not like he's going to lose his title. And then he went off at me. There's no time for rest and all that." Her shoulders sagged. "I just want to take care of him, you know?"

"You love him."

"Do I have to say it out aloud?"

Kai shook his head. "Please don't. So. Why did you come to me?"

"Because I have a plan that will make him notice me as someone other than one of the boys. I don't want to be that girl. You know some people think I'm a groupie." She shuddered.

"So, what's your plan?" He knew he was going to regret asking it.

"I'm going to make Tyson jealous. You are going to go on a date with me."

"You want to know what I think, Hilary? It's a terrible idea," Kai said, folding his arms, pressing one foot against the tree.

Hilary wasn't easily discouraged. "He's never going to make a move unless he feels he's threatened! You know what Tyson is like. He doesn't notice these things. I've spent the past two years being his biggest fan. Does he notice? No! It's always Daichi! Or Kai! Rei! Max! But it's never Hilary! I need to do something drastic to make him notice me!"

Kai rolled his eyes. "Have you considered the idea that he might just be gay and not interested in you? Or he could be asexual. Maybe you're just one of the boys now."

Her mouth dropped open. "Wait. You think he's friend-zoned me?" Her face turned ashen pale, as if she had just seen a ghost. Or tasted Daichi's bad cooking. Either situation worked.

"Well, he hasn't asked you out on a date yet, has he?"

She sighed, her shoulders sagging. "Unfortunately."

"And you've known him for two years now? Come on, Hilary. You're a strong person. Why don't you make the first move?" It was pathetic, really. Hilary would try to flirt with Tyson. Tyson would be oblivious to it and talk about beyblading. Hilary would get upset and come to Kai complaining about Tyson. He didn't even know how he had become the expert on matters of the heart.

"Are you kidding me? I have too much pride for that."

And there was the problem, Kai concluded. They were both as stubborn as each other. Neither of them would ever profess their love for the other first. Kai brought a hand to his face and shook his head. "You're never going to get anywhere acting like this. I don't even know why you're asking me. You should be asking Max. Or Rei. Women love them."

"You don't want to date me."

That was Hilary's brilliant plan. To make Kai go on a date with her to make Tyson jealous. It was all so Hollywood-lite, so juvenile. But there was one glaring problem. Tyson didn't get jealous. Or at least he had never seen Tyson show it. "I didn't say that. I just think this plan could backfire, that's all. What if Tyson actually thinks we're an official couple."

Oh, the horror.

"Then Tyson will come to you demanding to know what is going on!"

Kai raised an eyebrow. She was so confident her crazy plan would work. "You know how this will end, right? It will end in a beybattle. That's how bladers sort out conflicts. We let our blades do the talking."

Hilary was giving him that 'please-save-the-kittens' look. "Please, Kai?"

Damn. She had pulled out the trump card. How could he refuse? "Fine. I'll go on a pretend date with you, okay?"

She jumped up and down. "Yes, thank you, Kai! I so owe you one! You're the best! So, we'll go to Oliver's restaurant Montrachet tomorrow at one o'clock on the dot. See you then, Kai!" Kai didn't even get a chance to brag about his greatness. Hilary was already halfway down the street. He rubbed his temples and shook his head. What on earth had he signed up for?

.

"Kai and Hilary are holding hands!"

"Oh, my goodness! They're so hot together!"

"He was even smiling! They're so in love!"

"Don't you think they would make really cute babies?"

Rosette and Bianca. Enrique's lady friends. The girls were now the administrators of the Hot Blader Boys fanclub which was not surprisingly all about the boys who bladed. Tyson glared at the screen, his fingers resting on the keyboard, as their words sunk into his head. Kai and Hilary together? Kai and Hilary holding hands? Kai smiling? He turned the computer off and surged to his feet, kicking the chair aside.

Kenny dove over his laptop, as if he feared Tyson would accidentally throw it out the window. "Tyson! Careful!" He cradled his laptop like a mother holding a child close. "I'm sure it's nothing serious."

What was supposed to be a fun afternoon of practice for the upcoming charity tournament had turned into an afternoon of trawling websites for gossip. It had all started when Tyson had opened his Facebook page and came across pictures of Hilary and Kai on his feed. To his horror, many of his friends had already liked the photo. Robert had congratulated them on becoming a couple. Enrique was already making jokes about deflowering Hilary. Mariah thought it was too cute for words.

Max nodded. "Don't think too much about it, Tyson."

Throwing his hands up in the air, Tyson said, "Why would she go after Mr. Sourpuss?"

"Well, I hear women like brooding handsome guys like Kai," Max said.

Tyson frowned. "What? Serious? Why?"

Max shrugged. "Beats me. It's a mystery. I mean, I thought dying my hair blond would attract all the girls, but that doesn't seem to be working in my favour."

"Must be that mustard tradition of yours," Daichi said.

Max growled. "Hey! Don't insult mustard. It's good on everything."

"You put mustard on noodles. Do you put mustard on mustard too?"

"Ew," Kenny said, glancing up from his laptop.

"That's uh, something," Rei said.

"This is boring," Daichi complained, climbing to his feet. "Why does it matter if Kai is hanging out with Hilary? Maybe they got hungry and decided to eat out?"

"Because Dai-chi, Kai can't date Hilary."

"But why not?"

Tyson folded his arms over his chest. "Because I said so? It's not right."

"I think what Tyson is trying to say is that he's jealous because he wants to be with Hilary," Rei said, a knowing smirk spreading across his face. "I think it's sweet, really. We all know Tyson and Hilary are so into each other, but both are too stubborn to ever admit that."

Warmth rushed to Tyson's cheeks, but rather than cower in embarrassment, he balled his fingers into fist and growled. "No way! Nuh-uh! I'm not attracted to Hilary! She's the wicked witch! I can't be attracted to her!"

"And she's cast a spell on you. A one called love," Kenny said. Rei and Max sniggered. "Don't fight it, Tyson. Embrace it."

"Tyson and Hilary, sitting in a tree!" Daichi sang.

"If you sing that again, I'm going to beat you up so bad in the beydish, it'll take a week to fix up Strata Dragoon!" Tyson threatened, shaking a fist at the little runt.

"Aw, look," Rei teased. "He's blushing!"

"Hey yeah, his cheeks are red!" Max said, trying hard not to burst out into hysterical laughter.

Tyson turned his back. Those bastards. "I thought you were lot were supposed to be my friends."

"That's why we're encouraging you to go after her. Come on, Tyson! Go and rescue Hilary from the evil clutches of Mr. Sourpuss," Max said, slapping his friend on the back. "I'll even come with you for moral support. I'll be your wingman."

Tyson still had his back turned to his friends. He could beat Kai in beyblading. He could also beat Kai when it came to matters of the heart. He was going to win Hilary over! Filled with great determination, he exited the room. Soon, people would be praising photos of him and Hilary instead.

There are so many KaiHil stories coming out now, I decided to write a TyHil because I ship them, and there's not enough out there. More TyHil stories people! I also wanted to write a light-hearted fun fic. A nice break from all the angst I've been writing recently. This will be a two-shot, and the second chapter will contain more hilarity, a surprise cameo, and of course, the conclusion. As always, reviews are much appreciated!
